Jonathan Levine has directed two feature films ( The Wackness and next month’s 50/50 ) since seeing his 2006 directorial debut, the indie horror pic All the Boys Love Mandy Lane , infamously go from a Weinstein Co. pick-up to a Weinstein Co. cast-off sold to Senator Entertainment, who then went out of business themselves. So what’s the latest status of the Amber Heard starrer (which also features Anson Mount, Whitney Able, and Twilight ‘s Michael Welch)?
Talk of a fourth Evil Dead movie/ Evil Dead remake has been around for a while, with little solid proof that the indie horror franchise would actually see new life. Until now: Following an online report that editor Bob Murawski was heading to Detroit to start working on the project, Bruce Campbell — Ash himself — has Tweeted confirmation that the project is on its way to fruition.
When two candidates with comparatively equal knowledge, skills and abilities are competing for the same position the one who handles this meeting the best will get the job. In fact, it’s not unheard of for a lesser qualified candidate to win the job simply because she interviewed better than more qualified candidates. Simple Ways To Enjoy Your Life In this crucial first meeting between you and the hiring authority decisions are based on: How well you relate to the hiring authority Your personal presentation How well you handle the questions How well you meet the position requirements. In that order! You have complete control over how you behave, how you’re groomed and the information you share. Little things may not work for you when right but they will definitely work against you if wrong. Putting your effort into getting them right will give you an employment edge. Here are some handy tips: Do arrive on time. Some experts recommend arriving 15 minutes early. I agree that it makes sense to insure you’re not late. If you are early take that time to visit the facilities and check your appearance. Do treat everyone you come into contact with at the company pleasantly and respectfully. At my staffing firm the front desk person had input on every potential new hire. Being rude or short with anyone is self defeating. Do take at least two clean copies of your resume (on good quality paper);a copy of the job description; something to write on / with; a separate sheet of paper with your employment references and your list of possible questions to ask. If you don’t have a professional looking pad holder use a file folder to hold these things. Don’t bring up the Pay Rate subject. You should have determined whether the hiring range was within your acceptable limits before getting to this meeting. The party that raises the question of pay first from that point on is in the weakest negotiating position. Don’t ask about vacation time or other benefits in this first meeting. This information may be offered but don’t ask if it isn’t. Your goal at a first interview is to either make the hiring authority want to hire you or make it to the next round of meetings. You must also determine whether the position is a good fit for you. What In The World Are You Waiting For?
Michael Rapaport said he was done trying to make Q-Tip happy about his Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest documentary which hits theaters today. Tip publicly had beef with the project and Mike catered to him, but recently the film’s director told the press that the Tribe front man would “come around.” And it seems that has happened as Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad spoke to Angie Martinez on Hot 97FM and stated they got the creative control they were after. “If we hadn’t been supportive of the film, it wouldn’t be out. When I said that I wasn’t in support of it on Twitter, the director needed to respect the subject’s few requests that they had about the film artistically, an editing thing,” Q-Tip said. “Like I said before on MTV, it was more like a flare to get his attention, like, ‘Hello?’ because we were trying to get his attention. So we did it and then two days later, they were on a plane and came and worked on the edit.” Even though the movie was changed to the suit the subjects, Mr. Rapaport’s statements in The Daily News rubbed Tip the wrong way. Lyor Cohen approached rapper, who departed Universal Music in 2009. By Alvin Blanco Common Photo: Chris Weeks/ Getty Images Last week, Chicago rapper Common revealed that he is taking his rhyme talents to Warner Bros. Records . Surprisingly, the “Universal Mind Control” rapper tells MTV News that he had been a free agent since December 2009, when he departed from his longtime Universal Music recording home. The rapper and actor, currently shooting an AMC television series called “Hell on Wheels” that will premiere in the fall, released his last album, Universal Mind Control, in December 2008. The album was met with mixed reviews and didn’t reach the same gold sales of his previous two projects, the critically acclaimed Be and Finding Forever . But a certain record executive didn’t lose faith in the veteran rap lyricist. “Point blank, I got a call from [Warner CEO] Lyor Cohen,” Common told MTV News. “He was like, ‘Look, man, I know who you are. I always told you, you was one of my favorite MCs, and I really meant that.’ “I felt the sincerity in what he was saying. He didn’t tell me, ‘We’re going to do this, do that.’ He was more like, ‘I know how we can do your record, and I want to work this. I want this to be on my roster.’ ” The Warner music chairman knows a thing or two about talent. Through the years, “the check writer” has had a hand in the careers of star MCs such as Run-DMC, LL Cool J and Jay-Z. Before getting the call from Cohen, Common had been toying with the idea of going the indie-label route to release his music. “I felt like, man, it would be good because it’s so much … we do have a lot going on,” Common explained. “I am doing these acting projects. I do have my foundation. I do have a daughter and a life, too. So it’s all these things I want to take care of, I felt like I didn’t want to have an independent label that I felt like you gotta be there for everything, every decision. I’d rather have a team that’s already in place that’s really confident in what I’m doing.” Although G.O.O.D. Music recently inked a worldwide label agreement with Island Def Jam Music Group, Common is still affiliated with Kanye West’s label. “It’s still G.O.O.D. Music all day and night,” he said. Common’s ninth album, The Dreamer, The Believer, is due out in November. What do you think of Common’s decision to sign with Warner Bros. Records? Sound off below! Related Artists Common
Steven Soderbergh is retiring. Eventually . Of course, before he does ride off into the sunset the Oscar winning director will release five films: Contagion (recently moved up to early September), Haywire , Magic Mike , The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Liberace . In other words: there’s plenty of Soderbergh left, cinephiles! The second of his final five films to hit theaters is Haywire , and a first image from the action thriller has hit the Internet. Say hello to MMA fighter Gina Carano… and her Uzi.
As hard as this may be to believe for some of you, it appears the critics love (or maybe the correct term is “hate less”) Michael Bay more than Tom Hanks. At least when it comes to Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Larry Crowne . The Hanks-directed comedy has been raked through the coals in reviews, and currently sports an even lower Rotten Tomatoes rating than Dark of the Moon . Perhaps it needed more Autobots. Ahead, the 9 most scathing critical responses to Larry Crowne .
The last few years have seen Patrick Wilson travel the hero route ( Watchmen ), the villain route ( The A-Team ), the romantic-lead route ( Morning Glory ), the romantic-foil route ( The Switch ), the beset-father route ( Insidious ) and the indie title-character route ( Barry Munday ). The versatile actor takes a road far less traveled in The Ledge , playing a religious zealot from under whose thumb his wife (Liv Tyler) squirms into an affair with the godless heathen next door (Charlie Hunnam). The triangle prompts a stand-off on the titular ledge, where a despondent cop (Terrence Howard) attempts to talk the heathen down. Sound crazy? It is! But in a good way.
If you had to sit through Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over , there’s a good chance you will be forced to see the fourth installment of the Spy Kids franchise when it premieres Aug. 19. Unfortunately for you, Sylvester Stallone will not be reprising his role as the unintentionally hilarious villain toymaker, and even more unfortunately, not even Jessica Alba , Joel McHale, Ricky Gervais and the movie’s Aromascope feature will be able to save the latest Spy Kids movie All the Time in the World from kid-approved ridiculousness. At least, that’s what the latest trailer makes it seem like.
Today in WTF : Indie darlings Florence + the Machine — whom I lovingly call Tori Amos and the Evanescence — visited the spectacular Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando on Thursday. They’re performing at the Hard Rock at Universal CityWalk tonight, but the important thing is that someone took a picture of the group slurping Butterbeer and touring the premises. It’s all a little too much wizardry for me.
