Trayvon Martin 911 Call Controversy: NBC Apologizes For Editing George Zimmerman Recording

A version of the 911 tape of George Zimmerman reporting suspicious behavior by Trayvon Martin before killing him was edited, NBC admitted this week. It wasn’t doctored – his words were left intact – but it’s what we didn’t hear that sheds light on the ultimately fatal Martin-Zimmerman confrontation. On March 27, NBC’s Today Show aired Zimmerman’s call to the police, featuring these words: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good … he looks black.” The recording went viral, no doubt shaping public bias against Zimmerman . Sad news : A suspect was detained Monday in a shooting attack at an Oakland Christian university that sources said has left at least five people dead. Law enforcement sources close to the investigation told The Associated Press that at least five people have died after the morning shooting at Oikos University. “I can confirm that we do have one person who has been detained that we believe is possibly responsible for this shooting,” Watson said. Four victims arrived at Highland Hospital for treatment, said spokeswoman Jerri Randrup. Earlier, television news footage showed officers surrounding the building in search of the suspect. The footage also showed wounded people being carried out of the building, and more gurneys were being brought in. Say It Ain’t So! L.A. Coroner Toxicology Report Confirms That Whitney Houston Had Yayo In Her System At Time Of Death!!

SMH…R.I.P. Whitney According to TMZ reports : Whitney Houston had cocaine in her system when she died — this according to the L.A. County Coroner. The L.A. County Coroner has just released the singer’s official cause of death — accidental drowning … but the report also notes heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors to Whitney’s demise. A source connected to the investigation tells us it is “very possible” Whitney had a heart attack that caused her to lose consciousness and drown. The heart attack may have been triggered by hardening of the arteries as a result of cocaine use. As we previously reported, Whitney was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel last month and several pills were found on the scene — including Xanax, Ibuprofen, and Midol. Investigators found NO EVIDENCE of cocaine in the hotel room. Law enforcement sources have told us from the beginning they did not suspect foul play — and believe her death was not a homicide. Law enforcement sources tell us … Ross was NOT home at the time of the shooting and at this point in the investigation, he’s not considered a suspect. We’re told cops found the victim laying inside a gate at the home. Sources tell us … investigators don’t know if the victim has any connection to Ross, but since he is listed as the owner of the property, cops want to ask him a few questions about the situation. Source Defends Gabriel Aubry: The Nanny Tripped!

Gabriel Aubry stands accused of not merely shoving the nanny of his three-year old daughter, Nahla, but of doing it while the woman was holding the toddler in her arms. But an insider tells Radar Online this allegation is clearly false because, come on, it just isn’t logical. “Why in the world would Gabriel push the nanny causing her to fall while she was holding his daughter?” a source says . “Gabriel is fiercely protective of Nahla. The nanny tripped, and she fell while holding Nahla. Yes, Gabriel and the nanny were arguing, he felt like his parenting skills were under attack again. Gabriel can’t believe how out of control this situation has become.” It all started on Wednesday, January 18, when Alliance Kamdem alleges she asked Aubry why Nahla was not in school. He reacted in anger and that’s when the pushing/tripping incident took place. Kamdem has since resigned her post, had her request for a restraining order against the model denied and a judge will decide on Monday whether or not Aubry can see Nahla while this investigation is ongoing.

Shook Ones: CEO Of Megaupload Swizz Beatz Preparing To Get Grilled By The Feds For His Involvement In File-Sharing Website

Looks like Swizzy is gearing up to be questioned about his site Megaupload that was shut down by the FBI due to piracy claims: Alicia Keys’ husband, Swizz Beatz, was tangled in crisis meetings with his legal team on Friday as the music producer faces possible questioning by the FBI. Beatz is CEO of Megaupload, a file-sharing Web site shuttered by the feds Thursday over Internet piracy claims. Four of the site’s top executives were arrested, but Beatz was not named in the 72-page indictment filed Thursday by the Justice Department. Sources tell us Beatz believes he may be questioned by the FBI and is considering hiring a criminal defense lawyer. If convicted, the arrested executives could face up to 50 years in prison for the largest copyright case in history. Beatz “expects to be questioned by the FBI,” a source close to his camp told us. “He’s the CEO of the site.” When Page Six first revealed last week that Beatz was CEO of the Hong Kong-based file-sharing site, Megaupload lawyer Ira Rothken didn’t dispute Beatz’s position in the organization and acknowledged that Beatz persuaded Kanye West, Will.i.am and Sean “Diddy” Combs to participate in a promotional video for the site. Rothken changed his tune Friday, telling the blog Venturebeat that “[Beatz] was negotiating to become the CEO, but it was never official.” Rothken didn’t get back to us to explain his altered view. Sources tell us Beatz has been CEO of the company for close to a year. “Swizz is satisfied that he isn’t being investigated for any wrongdoing because had this been the case, they would have picked him up at the same time as the others,” a source said. “Swizz had no idea this was coming. Harry Burkhart Arrested in Los Angeles Arson Spree

Harry Burkhart, a 24-year-old German national, was the man arrested by police earlier this week in connection with the deadly arson spree in Los Angeles. A string of arson fires put Los Angeles residents on edge over the holidays and caused millions in damage, and officials believe Burkhart is the perpetrator. They also believe he did it because he felt his mom was being mistreated. Burkhart was arrested early Monday morning driving a minivan in W. Hollywood. Inside were fire starter sticks. Once he was in custody, the fires ceased. Sheriff Lee Baca called the suspect the “most dangerous arsonist in Los Angeles County that I can recall,” after battling 50 blazes in the preceding days. While authorities don’t yet have a definite motive, they say it appears Harry Burkhart was outraged about his mother’s pending deportation to Germany. Dorothee Burkhart was arrested December 28 on a provisional warrant from Germany, and the arson spree began just after she was taken into custody. At a court hearing Tuesday, Dorothee, who is wanted on fraud charges , cried for her son – and claimed he suffers from mental illness, the LA Times reports. “My first question is, where is my son?” she shouted, telling a federal judge in broken English that her son “is mental ill.” That would be an understatement. During a recent immigration hearing about Dorothee’s case, her son ranted against the U.S. and its policies, according to the Los Angeles Times . An officer working on Dorothee’s case saw footage of the suspected arsonist, recognized Burkhart, and contacted authorities, the AP reports. Police stress that the investigation is not complete. “We are confident in our investigation, but we have a long way to go,” L.A. Police Chief Charlie Becks said.

Barry Bonds Sentenced to 30 Days House Arrest, Probation For Obstruction of Justice

Disgraced baseball great Barry Bonds was sentenced to 30 days house arrest and probation today – basically a slap on the wrist for the juiced up home run king. A federal judge sentenced Bonds to probation and home confinement for obstructing justice during a grand jury probe into a firm that sold steroids to athletes. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston stayed the sentence until a higher court rules on the appeal of Bonds’ conviction , which resulted from the years-long BALCO probe. The sentence caps the highest-profile trial in a 10-year PED case that ensnared athletes in several sports and revealed the use of previously undetectable steroids. A number of athletes admitted using steroids during secret grand jury proceedings in 2003 related to the investigation of a Bay Area steroids manufacturer BALCO. Federal prosecutors in 2007 charged Bonds with lying to the grand jury. A criminal jury in April convicted him of obstruction of justice for giving evasive answers. Responding to questions about steroid use with non sequiturs and rambling digressions, Bonds basically dug his own grave there, not that he’ll be punished for it. The jury failed to reach a verdict on three other charges, and prosecutors asked the judge to sentence Bonds to 15 months in prison. Clearly that didn’t work out. After the hearing, Dennis Riordan, a lawyer for Bonds, said he believes the conviction will be thrown out on appeal, which it very well might, knowing this case. His conviction in the court of public opinion? Another story entirely.
