Married Pastor Arrested For Spreading HIV To His Congregation A married, panty-pandering pastor was recently arrested after one of his mistresses in his church congregation discovered he was HIV positive and infecting others in the church. Pastor Craig Lamar Davis looks like any other healthy, happy, heterosexual pastor with good family values. He was once a preacher at the Full Gospel Baptist Church in Atlanta and a pillar of leadership in the community. Also, like a lot of men at the front of the church, the pastor had a thing for the ladies. Another thing you might want to know about Davis, according to authorities, is that the pastor is HIV positive. He also didn’t seem to care who else became HIV positive after he slept with them. The pastor was arrested for reckless conduct after police found that he was sleeping with several women with whom he was not married. A woman by the name of Ronita McAfee says that she met the pastor on Facebook and began sleeping with him. Ronita says that she became concerned when one of the pastor’s ex-girlfriends called her to say that she had HIV. She claims that the pastor then counseled her (presumably leaning on the word of the good “lawud”) and told her to get tested. Davis then says that she noticed that the pastor himself was not interested in getting tested, even though she had also contracted HIV. This is what prompted her to seek out a warrant for his arrest. Ronita is, by our best guess, the first person to file for the arrest of someone who was found to maliciously spread HIV in Clayton, County, GA. When the investigation began, another woman in the church leadership stepped forward with her confession about interacting with Davis. The woman even claimed that she’d been celibate for 15 years before meeting him. She too is HIV positive. Just another reason why it’s so important to wrap it up at all times. And to not sleep with married men . Source
Still enthrallingly spooky after all these years, the soundtrack to David Lynch ‘s groundbreaking — and mind-blowing — 1977 film Eraserhead got a lovingly produced limited-edition vinyl release on Tuesday that, I hope, refocuses attention on the life and tragic death of one of its key contributors, Peter Ivers. Sacred Bones records released a sweet deluxe edition of the soundtrack that initially was limited to just 1,500 copies, but after that first edition sold out, the Brooklyn, NY-based indie label has agreed to press a second edition of just 1000 copies, which it’s selling for $25.00. The package includes the soundtrack in vinyl and digital form — a convention-shattering soundscape of industrial bleeps, buzzes and hums that Lynch and sound designer Alan Splet spent years perfecting. Also included: a 16-page booklet featuring beautifully reproduced production stills that show Lynch dressed like a 20th-Century iteration of Johnny Appleseed. For me, the cornerstone of the release is Ivers’ work, not only the movie’s eerily old-timey theme song, “In Heaven,” which was sung by the Lady in the Radiator in Lynch’s film, but a previously unreleased Ivers composition, “Pete’s Boogie,” that was discovered during the transferring of the original soundtrack audio tapes. The Illinois-born, Brookline, Mass.-raised Harvard graduate was a musician whose close friends included National Lampoon founder Douglas Kenney and Saturday Night Live and Animal House star John Belushi. In the 1970s, Ivers recorded for Epic and Warner Bros Records, and beginning in 1981, he amassed a fervent cult following as the free-associative poetry-spouting host of New Wave Theatre on the USA cable network’s Night Flight program block. A kind of underground SNL , the show featured comedy and alternative bands such as the Dead Kennedys and the Angry Samoans that were really not ready for prime time. Like his friends Kenney and Belushi, who died, respectively, in 1980 and ’82, Ivers would not make it to mid-decade. In March 1983, he was found bludgeoned to death in his Los Angeles apartment. According to Wikipedia, new information in a book about Ivers’ life prompted the L.A, Police Department to reopen the investigation into his death. I contacted the LAPD to see what the status of that investigation is, and am waiting on a reply. Stay tuned. In the meantime, here’s an example of Ivers’ inspired New Wave Theatre work — further proof,if you ask me, that his life is worth reexamining. Watch It On YouTube . Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Oscar-nominated writer of ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ and ‘When Harry Met Sally … ‘ died of pneumonia. By Josh Wigler Nora Ephron Photo: Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and director Nora Ephron died Tuesday (June 26) from pneumonia. She was 71. News of Ephron’s passing first hit the Internet late Tuesday when journalist Liz Smith, a friend of Ephron’s, published a column remembering the late director. “She never gave the answer I expected to anything. She was grave in her humor, which made it deadly, unexpected, truly funny and dauntingly intelligent,” wrote Smith. “She seemed never to want or expect anything, while always demanding the best from the rest of us. She was — always — right and somehow left the smartest, most ambitious and silliest of us in the dust at her feet.” Ephron lived a storied life both on set and behind the scenes. Born in New York City in 1941 and raised in Beverly Hills, California, Ephron worked as a journalist for numerous years before trying her hand writing and directing for film. Her writing appeared in such outlets as Esquire and New York, and she was even married to Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame from 1976 until 1980. She later wed screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi in 1987; they remained married until the time of her death. In 1983, Ephron’s first major Hollywood movie, “Silkwood,” arrived in theaters. Starring marquee names including Meryl Streep, Kurt Russell and Cher, Ephron’s “Silkwood” was based on the true story of Karen Silkwood, who was killed in a suspicious accident during her investigation into the unethical practices of the nuclear power plant that employed her. The film was nominated for five Oscars, including one for Ephron’s screenplay. Over the course of her career, Ephron cemented her place in Hollywood as one of the industry’s finest romantic comedy writers. She wrote the iconic “When Harry Met Sally … ” and directed numerous films, including the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan-starring “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail.” Her final film as writer and director was “Julie & Julia.” “I won’t say, ‘Rest in peace, Nora,’ ” Smith wrote in her eulogy of Ephron. “I will just ask, ‘What the hell will we do without you?’ ” Share your condolences for Ephron’s family and friends in the comments. Band’s drummer, Philip Selway, says group is ‘shattered’ by death of friend Scott Johnson. By Gil Kaufman The collapsed section of stage at Toronto’s Downsview Park Photo: A day after a stage collapse killed one person an injured three more, Radiohead issued a statement about the accident that caused the cancellation of their show at Toronto’s Downsview Park. The victim has been identified as the band’s drum tech, Scott Johnson, 33, a native of Doncaster, England. According to the Toronto Star , Johnson sustained a “crushing injury’ when the stage collapse while he and other members of the band’s crew were setting up the stage for the show. The other three crew members were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Radiohead drummer Philip Selway issued a statement on Sunday paying tribute to Johnson. ” We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague,” he wrote. “He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott’s family and all those close to him.” The Star reported that three inspectors and two engineers from the Ministry of Labour scoured the accident scene on Sunday in search of the cause of the collapse. A spokesperson said the investigation is “fairly complex” and some industry professionals wondering what could have caused the incident, which occurred on an otherwise nice, sunny day with light winds. The incident is the latest in a string of stage collapses over the past year, which include a death at the Bluesfest in Ottawa last July, six deaths at a Sugarland concert in Indianapolis in August and five deaths in Belgium after a storm swept in and toppled a stage at the Pukkelpop Festival. But authorities are reportedly calling for extra security at the NY show following Drizzy’s nightclub brawl with Chris Brown. By Rob Markman Drake Photo: Despite numerous reports to the contrary, the NYPD confirmed to MTV News there are no plans to arrest Drake before his show in Long Island, New York, tonight and the investigation into the YMCMB star’s nightclub brawl with Chris Brown is still ongoing. But that doesn’t mean authorities are taking things lightly before tonight’s concert: TMZ is reporting that New York State Police are calling for extra security at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theatre following the Thursday morning scuffle between Brown’s and Drizzy’s entourages in a New York City club. Reps for Drake have maintained that the Toronto MC did nothing wrong . On Friday night, Cash Money CEO Birdman weighed in on the incident. “To me, Drizzy ain’t did nothin’ wrong, he ain’t done nothin’ wrong to nobody. He’s just doin’ great music,” he told MTV News exclusively. “He’s not a reckless guy out there just wildin’ out; he’s a humble kid makin’ great music.” There has been a ton of finger-pointing following the brawl, which reportedly involved members of both Drake’s and Breezy’s respective crews. Brown’s lawyer Mark Geragos has been very vocal in implicating Drake as the main culprit in the incident. “I have turned over evidence that it was Drake who instigated this,” he told the New York Post. “The evidence makes it clear that Chris is the victim of all this. “I believe the police are building a case against Drake and his thugs,” he continued. The police did confirm with MTV News that the case was ongoing but would not confirm that they were ready to arrest the Take Care MC or anyone in connection to the brawl. Coincidently, the manager of the W.I.P. nightclub (where the incident occurred) was arrested Friday due to existing warrants unrelated to the incident. Drake has big plans for tonight’s concert, which is a scheduled part of his critically acclaimed Club Paradise Tour. During an interview with DJ Scoob Doo’s BreadOverBed.com, Drizzy said he plans to outdo Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert. After a radio DJ insulted Nicki Minaj just hours before she was scheduled to perform at the June 3 concert in New Jersey, YMCMB boss Lil Wayne pulled the plug on his label’s all-star performance. “I’ve got everyone you would want to see, plus people that you wouldn’t expect to see,” Drake said. Justice is going to get you George. The State of Florida has charged George Zimmerman with murdering Trayvon Martin. But that might not be the end of his legal problems: According to WFTV, an affliate of ABC in Orlando, Zimmerman may soon be charged with a hate crime by the FBI: WFTV has learned charges against George Zimmerman could be getting more serious. State prosecutors said Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, profiled and stalked 17-year-old Trayvon Martin before killing him, so the FBI is now looking into charging him with a hate crime. FBI investigators are actively questioning witnesses in the retreat at the Twin Lakes neighborhood, seeking evidence for a possible federal hate crime charge. WFTV notes that “if Zimmerman is charged and found guilty of a federal hate crime involving murder, he could face the death penalty.” FBI officials confirm to ABC News that the investigation is ongoing but say the “hammer won’t be dropped” anytime soon. Most of the evidence against Zimmerman has yet to be disclosed. Late yesterday, Florida prosecution delivered 67 CDs of evidence against Zimmerman to his attorney. Under Florida law, most of it should be available to the public soon. Some people believe if Zimmerman is found guilty, life in prison seems right. But the death penalty only magnifies heinous crimes by killing again. Do you think the FBI is justified in convicting Zimmerman of a hate crime and would the death penalty be the right sentence for him? Source
Lane Garrison’s lawyer said today that his client will not be charged with felony domestic violence for allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Mattingly. Yet, anyway. Harland Braun says he spoke with the D.A. Tuesday and was told prosecutors don’t have sufficient evidence right now to file a case against Garrison. That could change, however, as the investigation continues. Lane’s case remains under review and charges stemming from his arrest still could be filed. There’s also the matter of Garrison’s 2007 DUI-manslaughter conviction. Braun he is getting in touch with the parole board to see if the department will take action against the former Prison Break star for his role in this case. Even though he hasn’t been charged with domestic violence, Lane is currently under a parole hold in Beverly Hills jail while that matter is addressed. Lane’s former girlfriend, Ashley Mattingly , claims he attacked her Saturday night and says the surveillance video shows the alleged attack go down. Braun says the surveillance video is deceiving and it actually does NOT show Lane striking Ashley, but merely trying to grab his phone back from her. Lane Garrison Slaps Ashley Mattingly Braun says he believes his client was convincing when he spoke with Beverly Hills police detectives, and that’s why no immediate charges have been filed. The two definitely got into it in a bad way, but establishing whether a clear assault took place during the melee is a different story. Stay tuned.
LAPD detective Brett Goodkin helped bring down the infamous “Bling Ring” of young thieves who lifted jewels and other valuables from the homes of the Hollywood elite (and Paris Hilton). That made him an ideal consultant for Sofia Coppola’s dramatization of the affair, currently underway with Emma Watson (pictured on set) in the leading role. Well, sort of ideal, except for one huge conflict of interest. From the LAT : Police officers have served as paid consultants on Hollywood projects since the dawn of the crime genre. But experts said Goodkin’s actions are highly unusual because the case is still in court, where his financial interest in the film is certain to become an issue raised by the defense. Goodkin never notified prosecutors of his work on the movie, though his testimony is likely to be central at the trial of three remaining defendants. Informed by The Times of Goodkin’s role, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office expressed shock: “We did not know, and now that we do we have to evaluate what impact this may have.” Legal experts said Goodkin’s consulting work could significantly complicate the prosecution’s case. “This looks very unsavory, and it could make a big difference in attacking the credibility of the investigator,” said Thomas Mesereau, a criminal defense attorney who defended Michael Jackson in his 2005 child molestation trial. “Clearly, it presents a conflict of interest if someone’s investigation becomes oriented toward creating a story or entertainment. It’s certainly going to taint the investigation’s motives and make them look unprofessional.” Goodkin reportedly is distancing himself from the project henceforth, while prosecutors may yet be legally compelled to bargain with the remaining defendants awaiting trial. Tough break. But come on! They broke into Paris Hilton ‘s house! Those kids should have pleaded no contest months ago and been sentenced to 30 days of desperately needed taste rehab. Let’s make a deal, already. [ LAT ] Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
