During a panel discussion about “liberating the black female body” at the New School in New York City this week, famous literary scholar bell hooks (real name: Gloria Jean Watkins) made her feelings about Beyonce very clear. In response to a fellow panelist saying Beyonce served as an inspiration due to “owning her body and claiming that space,” hooks offered up a contrasting viewpoint. “I see a part of Beyonce that is, in fact, anti-feminist – that is a terrorist, especially in terms of the impact on young girls,” the Ain’t I a Woman? author said. “I actually feel like the major assault on feminism in our society has come from visual media and from television and videos.” Bill O’Reilly used different language recently, but made similar points regarding Beyonce. The Fox News host believes Beyonce is part of the teenage pregnancy problem and that she’s a terrible role model for young women due to her lewd music videos and racy song lyrics. Beyonce, of course, covers the Time 100 cover and is considered one of the world’s most influential people by that publication. But hooks wonders if the fascination with Beyonce doesn’t boil down to one word: MONEY. She asks: “Would we be at all interested in Beyonce if she wasn’t so rich? Because I don’t think you can separate her class, power, and the wealth from people’s fascination with her, that here is a young black woman who is so incredibly wealthy.” The self-proclaimed feminist them concludes: “Let’s say if Beyonce was a homeless woman who looked the same way, or a poor, down-and-out woman who looked the same way – would people be enchanted by her? Last week’s Dance Moms reunion show brought us up to date on where Kelly, Cathy and Abby Lee Miller stand at the present time. Now it’s the girls’ turn. There’s apparently “no moms allowed” on Dance Moms Season 4 Episode 18 … meaning that they should just rename the show Dance . Just kidding. Watch Dance Moms Season 4 Episode 18 Online Maddie and Chloe got most of the questions, and it’s clear that while they compete against one another (and have since age four), Chloe and Maddie are close. Asked if Abby Lee Miller yells at her, Maddie gets upset when Abby says she can do this or that and she can’t; Maddie also basically lives at the studio. Payton joins Chloe and Nia to talk about being constantly kicked off the team only to return; Payton thinks Abby uses her to tell a story … a very weird story. Columbus Short may be off Scandal. But he isn’t done creating scandals of his own. Mere days after Short confirmed his departure from the aforementioned ABC hit, the actor’s estranged wife (Tanee) alleges he broke into the couple’s home and totally ransacked the residence. In new court documents filed this week, Tanee claims Short violated his restraining order over Easter weekend when he broke a door of its hinges inside her house, tore off her bed sheets and left many lights on. Short’s wife now says she is afraid for her life and for the life of her daughter. Earlier in April, Tanee accused Short of threatening her life with a knife. She obtained a restraining order as a result, but the actor believes it doesn’t apply to their home because his name is on the lease. Short was also recently arrested on battery charges stemming from his role in a bar brawl on March 15. Short starred on Scandal since the opening episode, portraying a fixer named Harrison Wright. But his character was left in peril on the Scandal Season 3 premiere. We don’t think he’ll be making it out alive.
A new report claims that Jenelle Evans, whose son Kaiser is due to arrive in June, is having second thoughts about raising him and may put him up for adoption. Evans, 22, and oft-maligned baby-daddy-to-be Nathan Griffith, 26, are rumored to be meeting with adoption agencies about giving up their unborn son. Is there anything to this gossip, though? Not according to Jenelle Evans ‘ camp. “Yeah that [report] is completely false,” says a source close to the Teen Mom 2 cast member, adding, “They have never fought about giving up Kaiser.” Jenelle and Nathan share a phone, the insider adds, and “have not had one argument since he has been out of jail. They honestly have been getting along just fine.” That would be a refreshing change. The source also revealed that Jenelle Evans and Nathan Griffith , who both have one child they don’t have custody of, are super prepared for this one. Super prepared? Jenelle Evans? Yes, despite a shocking Teen Mom 2 clip in which Nathan apparently wanted her to get an abortion (she had one with Courtland Rogers’ baby in 2013), all is well . Jenelle Evans doesn’t even have legal custody of her son Jace, but imagine her surprise when absentee dad Andrew Lewis showed up at his daycare. Even though he’s banned from the center, no less. Lewis and the Teen Mom 2 star never married and despite being MIA for most of his offspring’s life, he has recently been sneaking in secret visits with Jace. In her ongoing effort to make everything sexy, Miranda Kerr donned an Easter Bunny costume for a recent photo shoot, proving once and for all that even oversized mammals and religious holidays can inspire impure thoughts. Miranda gave an interview that no one will read to accompany the shoot and stated that she’ll be spending the upcoming holiday weekend with her ex-husband Orlando Bloom and the couple’s 3-year-old son, Flynn. Never one to disappoint her fans of either gender, Miranda revealed that she’s bisexual in a recent interview, adding that she has sex as frequently as possible in order to “stay toned.” Sounds like Miranda has more in common with bunnies than we realized! Adding to her cause for celebration, Miranda’s birthday is on Sunday. She’ll turn 31, which is approximately 4,000 in model years, but everyone seems to agree that she’s aging quite nicely. Despite the fact that she has no projects to promote and her reality show has been canceled by Oprah , Lindsay Lohan has been on a full-blown media bender for the past 24 hours. Guess that’s better than her usual benders. Lindsay admitted her sex list was real on last night’s Watch What Happens Live and this morning she co-hosted The View, where she shared more lies and not-so-stunning revelations. Linds kicked the episode off by proclaiming that her sobriety is going “great,” and Whoopi Goldberg proved why she’s an Oscar winner by somehow managing to keep a straight face. Goldberg then asked Lohan about her trip to Coachella last weekend, which Lindsay said was better than previous years, because she was in a “different headspace.” By which she probably means her head was full of cocaine. Lindsay also claimed she’s in a different place with regard to her love life these days, saying that she’s avoiding dating at the moment as men (and women) have “been a distraction” for her in the past. This being daytime TV, Lindsay was a bit more tight-lipped about her romantic past than she’d been with Andy Cohen the night before. Wow. A late night show and a morning show the next day?
