Jerry Sandusky Interview: Bob Costas Grills Disgraced Penn State Coach on Sex Abuse Allegations

Monday night, former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky broke his silence on the stunning sexual abuse scandal that has roiled the university. Facing 40 counts of sexual abuse against eight boys over a 15-year span, the former coach granted an exclusive interview with Bob Costas on NBC’s Rock Center . Despite admitting he showered with boys , Sandusky maintained his innocence and rejected the term “pedophile,” amid some intense questioning by Costas: Jerry Sandusky Interview The scandal led to the firing of Joe Paterno and Penn State’s president. But it’s Sandusky at the center of the allegations, and in a word, they are disturbing. Sandusky had to pause and think before answering Costas’ question, “Are you sexually attracted to young boys,” in his first interview since the scandal broke. Costas, who was interviewing Sandusky’s lawyer, Joseph Amendola, before the coach himself got on the phone, proved he’s one of the finest journalists around. Handling the situation with professionalism, but also with brutal honestly, he succinctly asked the accused very tough questions that are on everyone’s mind. Follow the jump for a transcript of one exchange, in which Bob Costas questions Jerry Sandusky’s innocence, citing a conversation with an alleged victim’s parent: Costas: During one of those conversations, you said, “I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness,” speaking now with the mother, “I know I won’t get it from you. I wish I were dead.” A guy falsely accused, or a guy whose actions have been misinterpreted, doesn’t respond that way. Does he? Sandusky: I don’t know. I didn’t say, to my recollection, that “I wish I were dead.” I was hopeful that we could reconcile things. Costas: Shortly after that, in 2000, a janitor said that he saw you performing oral sex on a young boy in the showers in the Penn State locker facility. Did that happen? Sandusky: No. Costas: How could somebody think they saw something as extreme and shocking as that when it hadn’t occurred? And what would possibly be their motivation to fabricate it? Sandusky: You’d have to ask them. Costas: It seems that, if all of these accusations are false, you are the unluckiest and most persecuted man that any of us has ever heard about. Sandusky: [Laughs] I don’t know what you want me to say. I don’t think that these have been the best days of my life.

For Discussion: Is Herman “Big Daddy” Cain Unfit To Lead The United States Of America? [Video]

Would a man who says “Got all this stuff twirling around in my head” when asked about Libya and foreign policy be the right person for commander-in-chief?? Via NYTimes: HARD as it has been to watch, harder still to live through, the spectacle of Herman Cain’s dodging sexual harassment allegations is a real step up for the status of women. Their sexual treatment is now part of the open political process, rather than a smarmy rumor to be passed among cognoscenti in the dark. The fact that what several women have said might register in a presidential campaign — as if women’s sexual mistreatment at work might really matter — could be a potential game changer, even though the prevailing dynamics of sex, race and power that made sexual harassment so difficult to denounce in the first place are amply on display. The firestorm surrounding Clarence Thomas’s defense to Anita F. Hill’s allegations in his confirmation hearing for the United States Supreme Court 20 years ago not only falsely set up race and gender as mutually exclusive and opposing forces, but also framed subsequent defenses to sexual harassment charges by Bill Clinton and others as mere personal peccadillo or political fodder. Predictably, in this latest remix, political intrigue and racial grandstanding, combined with vicious attacks on the accusers, have obscured the principal inquiry: the leadership potential of a presidential candidate. Sexual harassment is not a Democratic or Republican issue, a liberal or conservative issue, or a black or white one, although those politics can shape it. As a consequence, it does not present a test of group loyalty but a chance to evaluate the reported behavior of someone who seeks to govern. Mr. Cain’s assertion that the public attention to these reports is “a high tech lynching” threatens to insulate his behavior from the deeper assessment it demands. Like Mr. Thomas, whose elevation to the Supreme Court was facilitated by this statement, Mr. Cain rides a wave of suspicion and empathy. It would be wrong to dismiss the appeal of his defense, given the common dimension of public sexual humiliation and how deeply “lynching” resonates as a metaphor for black men in the real context of the sexual politics of racial hierarchy. But neither Mr. Cain nor Mr. Thomas stands in the shoes of those crucified for offenses against the powerful. No one was, or will be, killed and hung from a tree for defending the prerogatives of the top 1 percent. And it is germane that women of all races face a specific kind of public sexual humiliation for reporting their abuse at the hands of those with power over their employment. This is a major reason that so many, rather than speaking out, have opted for silence, and in overwhelming numbers still do. Simply put, women do not want to be pornography. Remarkably but not atypically, Ms. Bialek’s Republicanism and her personal respect for Mr. Cain remain intact. Women who come out of the shadows, like Ms. Bialek and Ms. Hill before her, are not silenced as others can be, including by confidentiality agreements routinely forced on them by companies as the price of relief. These women want and expect the harasser to man up: acknowledge what he did, genuinely apologize, and change, meaning never do it again. And the failure of a candidate to do so should not be considered a winning political strategy but instead regarded as presumptive evidence of unfitness to lead. That would be a step toward real progress. Our leaders owe us nothing less. Thoughts on this??? Peep the video above of your boy Herman “Black GOP” Cain getting all flustered when asked about Libya… “Okay, Libya,” Cain said — then paused, looking downward. “President Obama supported the uprising — correct? President Obama called for the removal of Qaddafi. Just want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing before I say, yes I agreed, or no I didn’t agree.” “I do not agree with the way he handled it, for the following reasons — No, that’s a different one. (Pauses) I gotta go back, see. (Pauses) Got all this stuff twirling around in my head. Specifically, what are you asking me, did I agree or not disagree (sic) with Obama?” “I’m a much more deliberate decision-maker,” Cain said. “That is a point that I keep coming back to. Some people want to say, well, as President you’re supposed to know everything. No you don’t. I believe in having all of the information, as much of it as I possibly can, rather than making a decision or making a decision about whether I totally agreed, and didn’t agree, when I wasn’t privy to the entire situation. There might be some things that might cause me to feel differently. “So I’m not trying to hedge on the questions. That’s just my nature as a businessman. I need to know the facts as much as possible. I need to hear all of the alternatives (takes a sip of water). For example, someone — you might have mentioned that even in the administration, there were different views. I would want to hear all of those views, look at all the information, and then I make the decision as the Commander-in-Chief. So this is the whole point I’m trying to make.” Discuss… Source

Jerry Sandusky Says He “Horsed Around With Kids” But He’s Innocent Of Charges

Jerry Sandusky is now running his yap, claiming he loves kids and has touched them, but not with sexual intent. According to People.com reports : Jerry Sandusky, the former football coach at the center of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, acknowledges that he touched children but denies he committed any crimes. “I have horsed around with kids,” Sandusky, 67, said in an interview that aired Monday on Rock Center with Brian Williams. “I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact.” Asked by Bob Costas if he is guilty of the charges contained in a 40-count indictment, Sandusky says, “I am innocent of those charges.” “Are you a pedophile?” Costas asked. “No,” replied Sandusky, who went on to state: “I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them.” He also said, “I enjoy being around children. I enjoy their enthusiasm. I just have a good time with them.” Of the 2002 incident that was reputedly witnessed by assistant coach Mike McQueary, involving Sandusky and a boy in the locker room, Sandusky told Costas, “We were showering and horsing around and he actually turned all the showers on and was actually sliding across the floor and we were, as I recall, possibly like snapping a towel.” Sandusky’s attorney, Joseph Amendola, appeared on Tuesday’s Today show and admitted his client did not use common sense in showering with young boys. As Amendola told Costas, “I believe in Jerry’s innocence. Quite honestly, Bob, that’s why I’m involved in the case.” The New York Times now reports that as many as 10 more alleged victims of Sandusky are stepping forward, according to police close to the investigation. Amendola told Rock Center, “We expect we’re going to have a number of kids, now how many of those so-called eight kids we’re not sure, but we anticipate we’re going to have at least several of those kids come forward and say this never happened. This is me, this is the allegation, it never occurred. In fact, one of the toughest allegations … what McQueary said he saw, we have information that that child said that never happened.” What McQueary said he saw was Sandusky in the act of anal rape. We could see how a kid would deny that at some point or another out of shame, but what reason would McQueary have to make that up? In another incident a janitor allegedly saw Sandusky going down on a little boy. Innocent? We’re not buying it. More On Bossip! What Did WE Do?! What Did Jerry Sandusky Do To Those Boys? A Rundown Of The Grand Jury Report That Details Each Victim’s Abuse! [Video]

SMH. Jerry Sandusky needs to be locked up for a long time. Because the abuse has been referred to using blanket terms we wanted to really break down how nasty and damaging this sicko’s actions were. Here’s a victim-by-victim break down of the grand jury report courtesy of the New York Times : VICTIM 1 He was 11 or 12 years old when he met Sandusky in 2005 or 2006 through the Second Mile, a charity Sandusky set up to help disadvantaged boys. The coach gave the boy gifts — golf clubs, a computer, clothes — and often had him stay at his house in a basement bedroom. Sandusky would crawl into bed with him, have the boy lie on top of him and “crack his back,” pulling the boy against him and then rubbing his back. The grand jury said Sandusky performed oral sex on the boy more than 20 times in 2007 and 2008 and had the boy perform oral sex on him once. VICTIM 2 A boy, about 10 years old, was seen naked in a locker-room shower at Penn State with Sandusky in 2002 by Mike McQueary, then a 28-year-old graduate assistant and aspiring coach. The grand jury report said McQueary saw the boy “with his hands up against the wall, being subjected to anal intercourse by a naked Sandusky.” VICTIM 3 A boy, about 13, was invited by Sandusky in 2000 to his home for dinners, to go on walks and to attend Penn State football games. They exercised together and then showered. Sandusky patted him, rubbed his shoulders, washed his hair and gave him bear hugs. The boy stayed at Sandusky’s home, where Sandusky blew on his stomach, rubbed the inside of his thigh and touched his genitals. VICTIM 4 A boy, 12 or 13, “was repeatedly subjected to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault at the hands of Sandusky,” the report said. Contact took place in 1996 or 1997 in the locker-room shower and in hotel rooms. Sandusky gave the boy dozens of gifts — sports equipment, clothes and passes to sporting events — and threatened to send him home from the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio when the boy resisted his advances. VICTIM 5 A boy, 7 or 8, was invited in 1995 or 1996 to Sandusky family events and football games. When the boy was 8 or 10, Sandusky would roughhouse with him, then say they needed to shower. At one point, Sandusky, naked, pinned the boy against a wall in the shower, then placed the boy’s hand on his genitals. The boy slid away, and Sandusky never touched him again. VICTIM 6 When the boy was 11, in 1998, Sandusky was driving him to the university and put his hand on his thigh in the car. At the university they wrestled and Sandusky said they needed to shower. He lathered the boy in soap and bear-hugged him from behind. After the boy’s mother reported the incident to the university, Sandusky told investigators that he was wrong and that “I wish I were dead.” VICTIM 7 A boy, about 10, was invited in 1994 to numerous events and sleepovers at Sandusky’s. After a couple of years, Sandusky began putting his hand on the boy’s thigh while they were driving and on at least one occasion put his hands down the boy’s pants, though never touching his genitals. Sandusky bear-hugged him, cracked his back and shared showers. VICTIM 8 An unidentified “young” boy was seen in the shower with Sandusky at Penn State in 2000 by a university janitor. The janitor said Sandusky had pinned the boy against the wall and was performing oral sex on him. We are absolutely sickened by the fact that both the janitor and McQueary witnessed Sandusky sodomize young boys, reported it and this guy was still allowed to be on the Penn State campus and around young boys for YEARS after this happened. Everyone who knew anything about it and was in the power to do something and didn’t, should be fired. The mother of one of the victims did an interview with Good Morning America Friday and we’ve posted it below: More On Bossip! What Did WE Do?! Mike McQueary, Witness to Penn State Scandal, Will Not Coach Saturday

Penn State wide receivers coach Mike McQueary, who witnessed Jerry Sandusky allegedly rape a boy in the team’s locker room in 2002, won’t coach this weekend. Out of fear for McQueary’s safety, the coach, who somehow still has a job, will not be on the field when the embattled Nittany Lions take on Nebraska tomorrow. The university released a statement reading, “Due to multiple threats made against assistant coach Mike McQueary, the university has decided it would be in the best interest of all for assistant coach McQueary not to be in attendance .” McQueary has been under fire for not doing anything to stop the alleged rape, and then going to Joe Paterno, the legendary head coach, instead of the police. Penn State fired Joe Paterno abruptly Wednesday night. Despite the fact that he didn’t stop Sandusky, the team’s former defensive coordinator, who was just indicted on 40 counts of child sex abuse, his job is safe for now. According to Pennsylvania’s Morning Call newspaper, the board, which was decisive in axing Paterno, does not plan to fire McQueary or ask him to step down. But he won’t be on the field tomorrow. The Penn State board of trustees have reportedly asked new interim coach Tom Bradley to keep Mike McQueary from coaching from the sidelines Saturday. As the sex scandal at the storied college football program continues to unravel, no word on whether Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter editors will weigh in on the latest.

See for yourself: During a candid interview , Lambert also admitted that his debut album sales may have been affected by the public’s focus on his sexuality, saying: “Now that I have established who I am and I’ve gotten it out of my system, what’s really important – without denying or downplaying my pride as a gay man – is the music.” And what can fans expect from the singer’s follow-up? Songs that are all personal, Adam says. “This is definitely the album that I want to make.
