Jonas Brothers ‘Rock Out’ Together For Family Day Benefit

‘I haven’t talked to my brothers in a while,’ Nick jokes before short New York show. By Jocelyn Vena The Jonas Brothers Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — On Sunday, the Jonas Brothers hit the stage at the Roseland Ballroom to perform for Family Day, a benefit organized by the T.J. Martell Foundation. The annual charity event raises money for leukemia, cancer and AIDS research. And while the JoBros were on hand to support a worthy cause, their mini-set also gave fans a chance to catch the guys, who haven’t played together much this year. “Family’s doing great,” Kevin said of the Jonas clan . And his younger brother joked that it was nice to be reunited with his siblings after taking time to focus on a solo effort, Nick Jonas and the Administration . “I haven’t talked to my brothers in a while,” Nick laughed. “He’s been doing the side project,” Joe said. “Takes up all of his time.” All jokes about their “reunion” aside, the bandmates talked about how great it was to be included in the day’s festivities, especially for a foundation whose work reaches those in need. “We’re really excited today to be a part of [this],” Kevin said. “[The] T.J. Martell Foundation is allowing us to be here and play a show, and we haven’t played a show in a while. So that’s always exciting for us, and I think it’s going to be a good time.” In spite of their various individual projects, Kevin added that the brothers are always up for the chance play together. “We were onstage … the last time was the Houston rodeo [in March], and it was just a nice thing to be back onstage together,” he said. “And we’ll have fun. It’s a short set today, but we’re gonna rock out and have a good time!” Are you anxious for the brothers to get back to playing together? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Jonas Brothers

Ke$ha ‘Bonded’ With Ryan Phillippe During ‘SNL’ Rehearsals

‘I would love to do something funny,’ singer says of hopes she’ll appear in a sketch. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha Photo: Sam Hendrick/ MTV News Ke$ha is currently prepping for her stint as musical guest on this week’s “Saturday Night Live,” when “MacGruber” star Ryan Phillippe hosts the show. And while Ke$ha is known for her wild pop-star persona , she has yet to show the world her comedy chops. So will the “Tik Tok” singer be able to flex her comic muscle on Saturday night? “I have some ideas. I don’t know … it hasn’t been confirmed or denied yet [if I’ll appear in a sketch], so I can’t say for sure. But I would love to do something funny,” she revealed to MTV News on Thursday (April 15) during show rehearsals. Although she’s still unsure if she will actually appear in a sketch, she did pitch some ideas to “SNL” writers. “Well, they’re top-secret, so I can’t tell you,” she teased. “But one idea was someone recently told me I smell like shrimp in a diaper, so I thought I could do a perfume skit about me with my eau de perfume being a shrimp in a diaper. It’s very sensual.” Ke$ha would also love the opportunity to appear in at least one sketch with Phillippe. “We bonded. You can say that,” she laughed. “I mean, that would ideal [to star in a sketch together]. I hope that happens.” It’s not always easy to get up there and be funny on “SNL,” and Ke$ha hopes to score some time with Andy Samberg to ask for advice. “No, not yet, but I just met Andy and that was awesome,” she said. “But we didn’t really get to chat yet.” Are you looking forward to watching Ke$ha be funny on “SNL”? The dancing teams are partnering with DoSomething.org to celebrate the work of young volunteers. Judge JC Chasez said the show is sure to please “ABDC” fans. “Next week is going to be off the hook,” Chasez told MTV News at the show’s finale last Thursday . “The charity show is the show that everybody has been asking for since this whole show started. We’ve had enough seasons now, and honestly, I’m as excited as anybody else is. It’s gonna be a ridiculous show. I’m freaking out. When I saw the preview for it, I was getting amped in my chair!” The special program is going to be “the most electric show ever,” Chasez added. Chasez found it hard to pin down a single quality. “You know, I feel they’ve all put on strong shows. I would like somebody for different reasons,” he said. “And that’s the truth. … It takes a combination of a lot of things. ‘Jersey Shore’ Ladies Show Their Manners During Photo Shoot

‘I used to take etiquette school,’ Snooki tells Tinsley Mortimer during Harper’s Bazaar session. By Jocelyn Vena Sammi Sweatheart, Snooki and J-Woww at the Harper’s Bazaar photo shoot Photo: Harper’s Bazaar When the May issue of Harper’s Bazaar hits newsstands on April 27, you will be able to read about the girls of “Jersey Shore” getting tips on how to be ladylike from one of Manhattan’s preeminent socialites, Tinsley Mortimer. But we will show you what happened while the girls were getting class lessons. In behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot, the ladies are seen getting pretty and listening while Mortimer schools them on the fine art of being a celebutante. However, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi made it known that she’d already had some training. “Well, I used to take etiquette school. I know a couple things already — I just haven’t been using them,” she said. “I’d say I definitely have a lot more female friends just because I guess they look up to me or whatever. I’m a strong person and I have a strong personality.” Jenni “JWoww” Farley also divulged that, like Snooki, she’s well-versed in the world of etiquette. “I know them pretty well, the lessons that they are giving,” she explained, adding that if someone doesn’t like who she is, it’s their problem. “We’re not trying to mimic anyone. We can’t make everyone happy.” “I feel like I already know how to be a lady,” Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola added. “I find I have a lot of young girls who really look up to me and talk to me. They’re more my fans.” So what was it like for a refined woman like Mortimer to hang out with party girls from the Jersey Shore? She was actually quite excited by it. “Oh my god! It’s like a dream come true,” she raved. “I’m obsessed with those girls.” Related Photos The ‘Jersey Shore’ Ladies Get A Makeover

Miranda Cosgrove Urges The ‘Importance’ Of After-School Programs

The ‘iCarly’ star has teamed up with the Quaker Chewy Afterschool Rocks campaign. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miranda Cosgrove Photo: MTV News Miranda Cosgrove already has a pretty sweet after-school program to keep her busy: her hit Nickelodeon series “iCarly.” But the teen star is doing her part to help ensure that other kids have something positive to get into when the last bell rings. The actress teamed up with Quaker Oats for Quaker Chewy Afterschool Rocks, a campaign co-sponsored by the nonprofit Afterschool Alliance . The aim of the partnership is to extend access to affordable, quality after-school programs to students across the country. Cosgrove thinks the cause is vital. “It’s really cool,” she told MTV News. “They’re bringing after-school programming back to schools.” In March, Cosgrove hung out with a group of students at PS 72 in Harlem, New York. “I got to meet all the kids, and they did a choreographed dance,” said Cosgrove, who was treated to a performance by the 90’s Babies dance troupe, an offshoot of the Harlem RBI sports-based educational program. But Cosgrove is not just a spokesperson. The actress — whose album Sparks Fly is due later this month — will be performing a private concert for about 300 guests. Fans can enter to win a ticket through the Chewy Afterschool Rocks sweepstakes . “I just think that after-school programs are really important,” Cosgrove said. “I remember when I was little, my big thing was I was on a baseball team. I remember it as one of my favorite memories. I went out with my dad and got a whole baseball outfit. And I made up a team name. We called ourselves the Rose Buds.” What after-school programs are you involved in? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Miranda Cosgrove

Trae Tha Truth Makes a ‘Motion Picture’ With Lil Wayne And Rick Ross

Trae tells Mixtape Daily that ‘Inkredible’ ‘gives you the very feel of an old 1956 horror movie.’ By Shaheem Reid Trae The Truth and Lil Wayne Photo: EZ Access Celebrity Favorites Before beginning his interview, Trae Tha Truth said there was one statement he had to make: “Free Weezy!” Aside from Lil Wayne’s current jail time , Trae also told us about his just-released video for “Inkredible,” with guest stars Weezy and Rick Ross. “I shot with him the week of Super Bowl ,” Trae said of his collabo, on the phone from Mexico. “I went to Miami to kick it with [Wayne] and the Young Money family for, like, a week. He was getting a lot of work done. We had shot it then, but I stayed out there on some brotherly support to just kick it with him before he went to jail. We was out there just chillin’. It was crazy, man. We got there and we had fun. Wayne was the last part we did of the video. We did Ross first, then Wayne. When you get [me and Wayne] in that atmosphere, we always have fun. We did the same thing during [the studio session for] ‘Screwed Up’ [from the 2007 Life Goes On LP]. We never shot the video for ‘Screwed Up,’ but when you get around family, it’s always the same thing. “Me and Rick Ross got so much stuff,” he added about his affinity for the Bawse. “We actually got another two or three videos coming. We got a lot of stuff with me and Ross in the works. I was with Ross the other day. I think it’s natural. We don’t go in the studio trying to do stuff for other people. We do what we do best. We always do what fits us. ‘Inkredible’ came, that was one of the last few songs on my album. Me and Ross already had records on my upcoming album Tha Truth. Me and Wayne already had records on the album, but I had a certain situation going on with some political stuff. So we doubled-back and came with a record you really couldn’t deny.” Trae has had an ongoing feud with KBXX 97.9 the Box in Houston, and they don’t play his records. “They still don’t play me,” he said. “But you come to Houston, I’m the biggest thing in the streets, man. Then with the support of y’all, MTV Jams viewers hit me every hour on the hour. So it’s all good.” Tha Truth said his new single is cinematic. ” ‘Inkredible’ is more like a motion picture,” he explained. “I know a lot of people say ‘movie this, movie that,’ but it’s more like a motion picture. Soon as the track comes on — it was produced by Inkredible — it gives you the very feel of an old 1956 horror movie or one of those films. We wanted to do something different, so we brought three different artists to the record. What we did differently, the record has no hook. Say you in suspense and it’s that moment of the movie when you hear a clock ticking or a heartbeat. That explains what happens with ‘Inkredible.’ You got me coming first as the suspense builds. Outta nowhere, Wayne jumps in. Then outta nowhere again, Ross jumps in. When you see the video, you’ll understand.” Tha Truth comes out later this summer. Ludacris, Jadakiss, the Game, Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, Ross, Wayne, Plies, Scarface and Gorilla Zoe all make appearances. Mary J. Blige Tells Oprah ‘If You Save Women, You Save The World’

R&B superstar goes on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ to discuss her Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Shaheem Reid Mary J. Blige on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Photo: Harpo Kicking off her appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Tuesday (April 13), Mary J. Blige sang her cover of the classic Led Zeppelin tune “Stairway to Heaven.” But the real reason behind her visit was to talk about her struggles growing up in New York and how she hopes to empower young women. “I could have been dead because of this environment,” she said about her childhood in Yonkers. “But because of this environment, I’m alive too. I remember one day being there. I was sitting there, and it was a cloudy day. I started praying. I was really depressed that day, and I was crying, and I was like, ‘Father, if there’s a way out, please show me.’ As I was asking him that day, the sky … opened up and the sun came down. And I knew at that moment I was going to get out.” As a superstar musician, Blige started the Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now, which allows young women to seek the support and education she craved as a child. “It’s a dream come true,” she told Oprah. “My thing is, if you save women, you save the world. This is probably one of the most important places, because when women are looking for jobs, a lot of time they don’t have babysitters. That’s another thing that holds them back.” Blige said she’s committed to making sure women can get the help they need through her foundation. “From mothers to daughters to aunts, black, white, it doesn’t matter who you are: If you need help, the Mary J. Blige Center for Women is here,” she said. “It’s starting small, but we’re going to get bigger. When you’re educated, you’re confident. You know what you’re speaking about. You know who you are.” When Blige was a kid, she said, getting an education wasn’t the hip thing to do, so she didn’t think she could seek that out. “When I was growing up, it wasn’t cool to be educated, so I fell into that slump,” she explained. “When you’re in a peer-pressure situation where you’re forced to do what everyone else does to survive, then you end up like I did.” Blige told MTV News that kids now understand that education is vital to their success. “I look at this generation and anyone who doesn’t have an opportunity to finish or to get that education or have the confidence they need to get out and go out and get the jobs they want, I look at them like they’re as my children,” she said. “And I always want my children to have a better opportunity than I had. That’s why I’m going so hard to get them to college. “I take everyone on a journey of why this movement is so important, why the Mary J. Blige movement is so important to me,” Blige added. “I’ve done nothing but given back. My fans are loyal to me because of the journey that we’ve taken together.” As an adult, Blige said she has a very different philosophy in her own life. “I strive to be educated, to grow older gracefully, be happy and comfortable with myself,” she said. “And to have helped more women with my walk — not with what I’m saying but what they’re seeing.” What do you think of Blige’s commitment to helping young women?
