Amanda Knox was cleared of murder charges in Italy on Monday after jurors threw out a 2009 conviction that sent the American student to prison for a quarter-century. Almost immediately following her exoneration in the slaying of Meredith Kercher, media watchers began pondering when/if a book deal for Knox is on the way. She certainly has a compelling story to tell … but would you buy it? This summer, another young woman who attracted massive media attention was found innocent of murder, and quickly drew offers exceeding $750,000 for such a book. Casey Anthony has not written a book or even given an interview, of course. Due to widespread public hatred of her, one wonders if there will ever be a market. Knox, however, seems to enjoy much wider public support. It helps that a review of DNA evidence and long appellate proceedings resulted in her winning her freedom. Meredith Kercher’s throat was slashed in 2007, officials believed, after a sadistic sex game between the victim, Knox, and her boyfriend gone horribly, fatally wrong. The morons at the Westboro Baptist Church announced plans last night to protest Steve Jobs’ funeral, but even they can’t resist Apple’s really cool tech stuff. Margie Phelps, daughter of the church’s founder and a lawyer who represented the church during their First Amendment case at the Supreme Court (which Westboro won), Tweeted about the death of Steve Jobs using … wait for it … Her iPhone. “Westboro will picket his funeral. He had a huge platform; gave God no glory & taught sin,” Margie tweeted, apparently unable to appreciate the irony in embracing the cutting-edge advancements of a decent man they somehow condemn. One church member, Shirley Phelps-Roper, offered this take: She suggested that God was manipulating Jobs to help advance the message of Westboro Baptist Church, writing: “God used Steve Jobs to create amazing STUFF for WBC to preach!” Amen, sister. The Topeka, Kansas based church believes God punishes America for its tolerance of sin, acceptance of homosexuality, and so on. They often have demonstrated – legally but reprehensibly – at funerals of celebrities and armed service personnel. They can suck it.

‘iCarly’ star’s driver was the most seriously injured in the ‘life-threatening’ crash. By Jocelyn Vena Miranda Cosgrove Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images After news broke on Thursday that Miranda Cosgrove had been injured in a tour bus accident, new details are emerging about what is being described as a potentially “life-threatening” accident. The “iCarly” star and her fellow passengers, including her mother, were shaken up by the crash, according to multiple reports. On Friday (August 12), Cosgrove, who had yet to comment publicly on the accident, took to Twitter to let her fans know she’s doing fine and appreciates all of their support.”Thank u so much for all your messages,” the teen star tweeted . “They mean so much to me. Yesterday was extremely scary & I’m just so happy everyone’s gonna be okay.” TMZ reported that it was dark out when Cosgrove’s bus came across a semi-truck, en route to Kansas, the next stop on her Dancing Crazy Tour. The singer/actress’ bus driver decided that instead of trying to swerve out of the way of the truck, he would hit the brakes and face the vehicle head on. He was the most seriously injured of the group, and was airlifted to a local hospital, where he received as many as 45 stitches. He is currently in stable condition, according to sources. Photos from the crash show extensive damage to front of the bus and the semi-truck appeared to have overturned onto the side of the road. “Miranda’s mom was on the bus with her and got really beaten up by the crash,” a source told People. “She’s expected to fully recover, but it’s scary because the driver was hurt, too, and he’s in really bad shape.” The source added that the teen star was “really shaken up” by the crash. “A piece from the tractor-trailer went straight through the windshield and the driver’s arm was sliced all the way through,” according to the magazine’s source. Cosgrove had been sleeping on a couch at the front of the bus when the accident occurred. Those sleeping in the bunks farther back were not injured. New details have emerged on what a source is referring to as a “life-threatening” crash today involving a tour bus carrying Miranda Cosgrove and many others. As previously reported, the singer broke her ankle when her vehicle – which was headed for a concert date on Kansas – collided with a busted tractor-trailer. According to a People Magazine insider: “Miranda’s mom was on the bus with her and got really beaten up by the crash. She’s expected to fully recover, but it’s scary because the driver was hurt, too, and he’s in really bad shape.” Those sleeping in the back of the bus were unaffected, but Cosgrove absorbed the impact because she was asleep on a sofa closer to the front. “This was a life-threatening crash,” the source added, saying the driver is in critical condition. “A piece from the tractor-trailer went straight through the windshield and the driver’s arm was sliced all the way through.” Cosgrove has postponed her tour “until further notice” and hopes to return to the stage some time this fall. The Miss Teen USA pageant crowned a new, gorgeous titleholder last night in Danielle Doty, an 18-year-old hailing from Harlingen, Texas. Doty beat out Audra Mari of North Dakota to win the title and will take over from the reigning Miss Teen USA, Kamie Crawford of Maryland. Alexis Swanstrom (Miss Teen California), Taylor Clark (Miss Teen Kansas) and Sydnee Stottlemyre (Miss Teen Missouri) rounded out the top five. The prestigious beauty pageant, which streamed live online, did not take place in the United States, but rather at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. Danielle Doty is the second Texan to be named Miss Teen USA. Christie Lee Woods, who later starred on The Amazing Race , won the title in 1996. Other notable Miss Teen USA title holders include Bridgette Wilson-Sampras (1990), Vanessa Minnillo (1998) and Tami Farrell (2003), who later went on to become Miss California after Carrie Prejean stripped and was stripped of her crown. Alyssa Campanella was named Miss USA last month.
