‘American Idol’ Judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez Talk ‘Tough Love’

‘We’re sure going to send some people home with broken hearts,’ Aerosmith frontman insists. By Kara Warner Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images We have been following news on season 10 of “American Idol” before season nine even began. It all started back in January with the shock of Simon Cowell’s departure . Then Ellen DeGeneres was out ! Then Kara DioGuardi ! The rumored new judges piled on from there, with names like Jessica Simpson, Elton John and Justin Timberlake thrown up for consideration. Eventually, that field was narrowed to two: Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler , who were announced as official “Idol” judges during a Fox press conference Wednesday (September 22). One of the many questions asked of the new panelists during the big event was: Will they get in touch with their inner-Simon Cowell and be tough on the contestants? “How tough will I be? I believe in tough love,” Lopez said. “But I don’t think I will ever, as an artist myself, I could never be cruel to another artist,” she added. “I think there are definitely better ways to get your point across. I’ve mentored on the show before, so I think people have seen that and kinda can feel how I’ll be — or maybe they’ll be surprised.” Tyler said he, too, has no plans for outrageous tongue-lashings and will instead be trying to protect himself from getting too attached. “We’re sure going to send some people home with broken hearts,” Tyler admitted. “But with all that we’ve been through in our careers, living vicariously through the young talent out there, it’s going to be hard. But it’s also going to be fun, because they’re stepping up to the plate, and so are we.” Who will be tougher: Lopez or Tyler? Sound off in the comments! Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez Reveal Secrets Of ‘Machete’ Nude Scenes

Stars of Robert Rodriguez’s new flick discuss their bodies — real or created? By Kara Warner Jessica Alba at the “Machete” premiere Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Robert Rodriguez’s fake-trailer-inspired Mexploitation flick “Machete” has a lot going for it. Not only is it an action-packed, bloody romp, but it features kick-ass weapon-wielding stylings from leading ladies who also flash a bit of skin. Thanks to Rodriguez’s earlier explanation regarding his tricks to effective — not offensive — onscreen nudity , we know that not everyone is as naked as they seem. However, when we caught up with the film’s ladies in question, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez, it became apparent that there are a few more nude-themed questions to be answered. Namely, who was in charge of Michelle’s rockin’ bod, and which guy creates the post-production nipples? “I want to know: Who sculpted that body?” Alba asked Rodriguez as they gazed at a “Machete” poster featuring the very toned leather-clad actress. “Because the whole time I’m watching you, I’m drooling. ‘She doesn’t have any cellulite, not an ounce of fat! What is going on?'” Rodriguez responded with a hearty laugh. “That was [from] ‘Battle Los Angeles,'” she explained. “I was in boot camp before that. I had three weeks of intensive Marine warfare training.” “You looked insane,” Alba said. We then reminded the actress that it’s obvious from her shower scene in the film that she’s in just as good of shape. “Oh no, no, no,” she insisted. “I had undies on, and I had other stuff on, and they just sort of etched it out in post [production]. That’s not really me. I’m better covered up.” “I want to meet these guys who work in special effects and they are basically in charge of adding nipples,” Rodriguez added. “No, no — there were no nipples, though!” Alba responded regarding her apparently post-production-enhanced shower. “There weren’t?” Rodriguez asked, looking genuinely surprised. “I tried not to look because I thought that was a private moment that I shouldn’t be watching.” “No, there was no nipple!” Alba insisted. “No, no, no, no nipple.” “Well, I want to meet these [special-effects] guys though because they basically create what’s not there,” Rodriguez continued. “It’s pretty bugged out.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Machete.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Going The Distance’ Stars Share Romantic Gestures Gone Awry

Drew Barrymore recalls an ex’s unsuccessful love letter, while Justin Long’s flower purchase backfires. By Kara Warner Justin Long and Drew Barrymore Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images The topic of love and relationships is a loaded one. It’s full of drama, angst, joy — basically a smorgasbord of complex emotions that, no matter how serious and life-changing, can also be rife for comedic interpretation. One such interpretation is Drew Barrymore and Justin Long’s R-rated romp “Going the Distance,” which opens Friday. In the film, the are-they-or-aren’t-they-dating Barrymore and Long play a new couple who try to make a long-distance relationship work. There are expensive plane tickets, romantic gestures, arguments, etc. Speaking to the romantic gestures, because there are a few in the film, we asked Barrymore and Long if they had ever had one backfire. “I once got sent an e-mail that was written in a sarcastic tone, but the person buried the lead and didn’t say he was joking,” Barrymore said of an ex’s attempt at a love letter. “So everything in it was as horrible as you can imagine. That wasn’t funny. That was a really poorly executed romantic gesture. I remember another boyfriend, he bought me a cameo [silhouette pendant], and he said it reminded him of me. And I thought, ‘This old, silhouetted lady reminds you of me? Huh. OK.’ ” Long (who was not the giver of the aforementioned cameo) revealed that his good-intentions-gone-bad gesture involved an unfortunate mix-up of an ex’s preference in flowers. “This was actually a Valentine’s Day thing,” he said. “I went to the florist, and I saw these amazing orchids. There were, like, six orchids. It was tons of money … but I thought, ‘I’m going to do it. These are beautiful, and I’m pretty sure this person loves orchids,’ ” Long recalled. “I brought them home. She was always so appreciative of just the smallest gestures I did, so I was like, ‘Her head’s going to explode.’ ” Unfortunately for Long, his memory was a little skewed. “She was like [ he winces ] ‘I … oh … thank you,’ ” Long re-enacted. “She had this story that was like a really troubling, traumatic experience that had happened to her that involved orchids that she had told me. I knew there was something with orchids, I just didn’t remember that it was an awful association. It was bad. She was molested by a guy named Fred Orchid,” he joked. Jimmy Fallon Bids Farewell To ‘Lost,’ ’24,’ ‘Law & Order’ At Emmys

Host channels Elton John, Boyz II Men and Green Day for musical montage. By Jocelyn Vena Jimmy Fallon performs onstage at the 2010 Emmy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images “In memoriam” segments at awards shows tend to be serious montages featuring some of the fallen stars of the year prior. But at this year’s Emmy Awards, the night’s MC, Jimmy Fallon, decided to have a little fun with the yearly tradition by saying farewell to several of the beloved television shows that went off the air this past year. Dressed as Elton John, Fallon sat down at a pink grand piano and sang his own version of “Candle in the Wind” in honor of the now-defunct “24.” During the song, he changed the lyrics to: “Goodbye ’24’/ Though I never watched you on TV/ I missed one episode/ Had to buy the DVDs/ [Jack Bauer] never going to the men’s room, how did he hold it in?/ I would like to thank you for the torturing/ And the first black president.” Transitioning into a member of Boyz II Men, Fallon said goodbye to onetime television mainstay “Law & Order” with his take on “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday.” “How do I say goodbye, ‘Law & Order’?/ The good crimes, that changing cast/ I thought we’d get to season 21, but now that sound has gone away/ But at least there’s still that one with Mariska Hargitay,” he crooned to the laughing crowd. Fallon then became Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and, strumming his guitar, changed up the band’s hit “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” as a ballad to fan favorite “Lost.” “The island it was mythical, but in the end they died/ I didn’t understand it, but I tried,” he concluded the song. Drake And Lil Wayne’s ‘Miss Me’ Video To Premiere Thursday

Portions of the clip, which debuts at 8 p.m. ET on MTV, were filmed before Weezy began his prison sentence. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne and Drake (file) Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Drake ‘s “Miss Me” video, featuring Lil Wayne , is set to premiere Thursday on MTV at 8 p.m. ET. The clip was recorded in two sessions: one featuring Lil Wayne before the rapper turned himself in to start his yearlong prison sentence and another more recently in July as Drake put the finishing touches on the visual. The video is Drake’s third overall from his debut album, Thank Me Later, following “Over” and “Find Your Love,” both of which were directed by Anthony Mandler (Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna). Earlier this year, Drake spoke with Sway prior to the kickoff of his Away From Home Tour and talked about his collaboration with Weezy. “It’s a pretty straightforward [song],” he told MTV News. “It’s a song about being away from what you love and hoping that when you’re gone, doing you, somebody out there misses you. It goes for Wayne in his situation and it goes for me in my situation, ’cause I’m on the road for I don’t how long right now.” Originally, the song was slated as a collaboration between Bun B and Drake. But Wayne, perhaps with his then-impending jail term in mind, heard the record and wanted to join his prot

Mel Gibson Crashes Car Into Hillside

Actor is unhurt after Malibu accident. By Jocelyn Vena Mel Gibson Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images It’s been a rough year for Mel Gibson. First, damaging messages he allegedly left ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva were leaked. Now, Gibson was involved in a car accident Sunday near Malibu. TMZ reports that the actor was driving his 2008 Maserati around 8:35 p.m. when he struck a hillside in the California town. According to the California Highway Police report, “For unknown reasons, Mr. Gibson steered his car to the right and struck the rock hillside. He stopped his car at the scene and was contacted by officers from the West Valley CHP Area.” Gibson was not hurt and “DUI is not suspected in the accident,” according to officials. “Mr. Gibson supplied all the pertinent information to the officers at the scene, gave a statement and received a ride home from a friend,” the report continues. CHP spokesman Leland Tang spoke to TMZ about the incident and said Gibson’s accident “was totally an unintentional act.” No charges will be filed, and no citation was given in connection to the incident. “Gibson told officers in the field he did not know how the car drifted out of the lane and into the hillside,” Tang added. A rep for Gibson told People magazine that “he’s fine.” E! Online reports that Gibson had just returned from a fishing vacation in Fiji, where he was joined by his sons. Gibson is next expected to give a deposition in a custody case with Grigorieva over their 9-month-old daughter, Lucia, as well as the domestic-violence investigation.

Mark Wahlberg Would Only Rap Again If Justin Bieber Asked Him

‘I’d do that for my daughter,’ Wahlberg said of a possible collaboration with the teen idol. By Jocelyn Vena Mark Wahlberg Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images It’s been nearly two decades since Mark Wahlberg last released any music under the name Marky Mark. He hangs with a different kind of funky bunch now that he’s a certifiable Hollywood star, and he’s pretty much given up on going back behind the mic — although that could change if Justin Bieber, who is already pals with the likes of Diddy, Drake and Usher , came calling. “No. Not a chance,” the star of “The Other Guys” initially responded to a Time.com reader who asked if he’d ever return to the rap world. But then he softened a bit: “Actually, I’ll take that back. If Justin Bieber asked me, I’d do that for my daughter. She loves me to death, but she doesn’t think I’m very cool, so that might turn it around.” Wahlberg’s reluctance to going back to the hip-hop world is rooted a bit in his focus on acting. “Before Will Smith, most musicians who made movies were awful,” he explained. “When I decided to go into acting, I definitely wanted to make people forget about my music career.” While he’s not keen to jump back on the mic anytime soon, Wahlberg’s biggest regret has nothing to do with his rap career. “The one thing I will say [that I regret] is that stupid book I did [the 1992 memoir ‘Marky Mark’] that I dedicated to my penis,” he said. “I was trying to be funny and sarcastic. Of course, it’s something I get asked about all the time now.” Although he’s feeling shy about that particular life choice, it doesn’t seem to bother Bieber, who tweeted , “The Other Guys….haha…thanks Will for the one liners and Mark let’s make that rap song soon.” Would you like to see Mark Wahlberg and Justin Bieber on a track together? Brandon Flowers’ Debut Single, ‘Crossfire,’ Hits The Net

Song is a preview of the Killers’ frontman’s solo album “Flamingo.” By James Montgomery Brandon Flowers Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images While his bandmates keep busy hanging out with members of Duran Duran and forming side projects with ominous-sounding names , Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has been prepping his solo debut, a glossy thing he’s calling Flamingo . And now, whether he’s ready or not, fans can get their first listen to the fruits of Flowers’ solo labors: A song called “Crossfire” hit the ‘Net this weekend. The song, a slow-burning, wide-screen epic on par with the Killers’ Sam’s Town era, features spiraling, Edge-ian guitars, trilling strings and a massive chorus, with Flowers keening “Lay your body down/ next to mine!” in a lithe falsetto. Elsewhere, he croons about the devil’s fiery arrows and a clandestine lover who keeps her secrets on her pillow. “Crossfire” is reportedly produced by Stuart Price, who helmed the Killers’ 2008 album Day & Age . Price is one of three big-name knob-twiddlers Flowers is working with on Flamingo . In May, he told the British mag NME that he had also recruited Daniel Lanois and Brendan O’Brien to produce, and that Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis would also appear on the disc. There’s currently no release date for Flamingo , nor is there any word from the Killers’ reps about whether or not “Crossfire” is actually the debut single from the album. Over on Flowers’ official site , however, an instrumental version of “Crossfire” autoplays and the title of the song is written in flaming letters at the bottom of the page. A spokesperson for Flowers did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Related Artists The Killers

Eminem’s U.K. Freestyle ‘Took Us Back,’ Royce Da 5’9" Says

‘It was like we was kids again,’ he says of getting three verses apiece along with Denaun Porter on Tim Westwood’s radio show. By Shaheem Reid Eminem Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Royce Da 5’9″ is back in the D. He’s taking a little time — and we do mean a little time — to rest up after his trip overseas with Eminem , Alchemist and D12 member Denaun Porter. “It was great, man,” Royce, on the phone from his house in Detroit, said of the trip, which was a press run in support of Em’s Recovery. “I was going around them and soaking up game. I think it’s phenomenal how [Eminem manager] Paul [Rosenberg] can be around us joking one minute, and then the next second, he’s on the phone handling business and dealing with point people. It’s so tight. I peep the way they do things, the way Em knocks sh– out without complaining. It teaches me a lot. It’s like being a fly on the wall. You about to be a part of something special. I truly feel that Em is about to go on a crazy run. The album is phenomenal. I see a pattern, and I’m glad to be a part of it. We had a great time over there. All work.” Royce, who started a friendship with Em back in the mid ’90s, is soon to be an official member of the Shady roster. The long-talked-about Slaughterhouse/ Shady Records deal is in the fourth quarter, Royce said. One of the highlights of the trips overseas was a stop off at Tim Westwood’s radio show, where Royce, Em and Porter kicked three verses apiece . “You know what’s crazy? Denaun was like, ‘We should just do two verses. The three verses is going to be too long,’ ” Royce said. “Em was the one pushing for three verses. He was like, ‘Let’s do three verses.’ I’m like, ‘Damn, he must really wanna get these off.’ When I heard them, I knew why he wanted to spit them. When we did it, it was fun. It took us back. When we got on the jet going back, we was talking the whole way about that sh–. That sh– reminded me of back in the day when we used to go in. Me and Em got an 11-minute freestyle on Stretch Armstrong’s show 10 years ago. It took us back to that. It was like we was kids again. It was fun.” Royce just released his new mixtape with DJ Whoo Kid, Bar Exam 3: The Most Interesting Man in the World. What do you think of Em’s new material? Let us know in the comments!
