Britney Spears May Cover ‘Me Against The Music’ On ‘Glee’

Pop star tweeted a photo showing her and castmember Heather Morris sporting looks from Madonna video. By Mawuse Ziegbe Heather Morris and Britney Spears on the set of “Glee” Photo: Facebook It appears viewers may get a taste of Madonna in Britney Spears’ “Glee” episode. Spears, who has been sending out updates from the set of the Fox megahit, tweeted a picture of herself in a scene reminiscent of her Madonna collaboration, “Me Against the Music.” In the picture, Spears faces “Glee” castmember Heather Morris, who is decked out in a suit and blue shirt similar to the gender-bending look the superstar singer sports in the 2003 video. Instead of reprising her original look, though, Spears appears to be taking on Madonna’s role, donning an all-white outfit reminiscent of Madge’s look in the clip. The singer accompanied the picture with a Twitter missive referencing the lyrics from the uptempo track: “All my GLEEKERS in the crowd, Grab a partner take it down.” In addition to possibly revamping “Me Against the Music,” the upcoming Britney-tribute episode will feature the smash hit that started it all. Jenna Ushkowitz confirmed to MTV News earlier this month that Lea Michele will perform a version of ” … Baby One More Time.” Ushkowitz also revealed that fans may see a match-up between the “Circus” superstar and the show’s in-house Brittany. “Some old Britney, some new Britney, some Brittany of our Brittany from the glee club. So it should be funny,” Ushkowitz said. “We’re really excited. I love Britney Spears.” Madonna didn’t participate in the making of her “Glee” tribute episode but Spears appears to be having fun on the set. “We love GLEE! Its GLEEKERIFIC!!!” Spears tweeted on Thursday (August 19). The singer also tweeted about her first day of filming on Wednesday and sent out another picture. “What’s up GLEEKS? Having so much fun on set!!” Spears typed. “Can’t wait for you guys to see the episode!” What songs do you hope will turn up in the Britney Spears “Glee” episode? Let us know in the comments below! Chelsea Handler: Four Things To Know About 2010 VMA Host

Comedian has written two New York Times best-sellers and has an affinity for rappers. By Gil Kaufman Chelsea Handler Photo: Getty Images For the nearly 1 million viewers who tune in to watch “Chelsea Lately” every night on E!, host Chelsea Handler is the equivalent of a catty best girlfriend whose barbed opinions on celebrities are like a copy of Us Weekly come to life, only way, way funnier. Since she started hosting the half-hour show in 2007 as a relative unknown, Handler has grown to become one of the most in-demand female comedians on the stand-up circuit, launched a successful career as a humor author and, most importantly, landed the gig as host of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , making her the first XX-chromosome holder to get the gig in 15 years. But what do you need to know about Handler before tuning in? She really, really likes rappers : Handler has made no secret of her infatuation with rappers, batting her eyes and indulging in long hugs and flirty conversations with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Fat Joe, Pharrell and the most consistent object of her affections, T.I. The King of the South paid a visit to Handler just before he went away to prison for a year on weapons charges in 2009, during which she apparently came through on her promise to send him adult reading material. After he was sprung, she asked him about his time behind bars in June when he made a return visit. She also recently replaced the usual gaggle of comedians on her nightly roundtable with a trio of rappers that included Rick Ross, Lil Jon and Big Boi. She sells tons of books : Two of Handler’s three books have hit the #1 slot on the New York Times Best Seller list, including 2008’s essay collection “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea” as well as this year’s “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.” Her salacious 2005 memoir, “My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands,” was on the best-seller list for 80 weeks. She’s appeared alongside “Hangover” star Ken Jeong in a TV show : Handler was part of the ensemble cast of the short-lived Oxygen reality comedy series “Girls Behaving Badly,” which also featured Jeong. She was a correspondent for the first run of Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” and has appeared since 2007 on the Web series “In the Motherhood,” which also stars her real-life pal, Jenny McCarthy. Justin Bieber totally tried to score a date with her : Despite a 20-year age difference, a then-15-year-old Bieber got very comfy with Handler when he appeared on her show in 2009, just as his career was beginning to take off. In addition to a series of sly winks, Bieber gave the host some advice on how to flirt, and they bonded about getting B-12 shots in the butt. “I think you’re a lot cooler than they are,” Bieber said when asked if he’d rather be hanging with friends such as Usher and Justin Timberlake. “You seem like a really sweet boy — don’t let this town ruin you,” she said. “So, tonight at 7?” he responded with a smile. Handler will work the mic at this year’s Video Music Awards , which air live from Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. This is the first time the L.A.-based star will host the event, where celebs like Lady Gaga, Eminem, Drake, Usher and Katy Perry are up for Moonmen. Among the performers set to hit the stage are Kanye West, B.o.B, Florence and the Machine and her former flirt buddy, Bieber. The talk-show diva is the latest in a long list of comics to handle hosting duties at the VMAs. In 1985, Eddie Murphy took the cameras backstage at Radio City Music Hall and surprised guests with an impromptu visit to the ladies’ room. Arsenio Hall presided over the festivities four years in a row, armed with a collection of DayGlo suits and a quick wit that sparked the requisite barking chorus from the crowd. Fellow late-night comic Jimmy Fallon kicked off his 2002 hosting duties with an amped-up musical number. Chris Rock helped MTV turn 20 in 2003, delivering a memorable opening monologue that rivaled the infamous Madonna/ Britney Spears/ Christina Aguilera smooch. Potty-mouthed Brit Russell Brand flexed his skills on two different coasts, hosting in Hollywood in 2008 and returning the next year to helm the 2009 VMAs’ New York City homecoming. The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners from now through September 12. Related Photos Can You Handle VMA Host Chelsea Handler?

Lauryn Hill Lands On Billboard Charts For First Time In 10 Years

Former Fugee hits #94 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with leaked song ‘Repercussions.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Lauryn Hill Photo: Getty Images Lauryn Hill snuck back onto the Billboard charts for the first time in 10 years this week as the former Fugees singer’s “Repercussions” landed at #94 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song leaked online last month and it’s unclear if it’s a future release or an unfinished track from previous efforts. “Now it’s a difficult process, a matter of perception/ When I look in the mirror, what is it that I see?/ Is it my reflection?” she sings during the first verse. The chorus continues, “See, repercussion, talking about the things we do/ You need to know repercussions/ Things can come right back to you/ Repercussions, what goes around comes back around.” The last time Hill was featured on the Billboard charts was back in 1999 when her “Turn Your Lights Down Low” notched the #49 position. In June, the reclusive singer granted a rare interview to NPR and said she was excited about performing again. She appeared at a New Zealand music festival in January of this year, and this weekend, Hill is slated to perform during the “Rock the Bells” concert in Los Angeles. “There were things about myself, personal-growth things, that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it,” Hill told NPR News. “In fact, as musicians and artists, it’s important we have an environment — and I guess when I say environment, I really mean the [music] industry that really nurtures these gifts. Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society, or at least some aspect of society. And it’s important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected. Oftentimes, I think people are forced to make decisions prematurely.” What do you think of Lauryn Hill’s new song? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Lauryn Hill

Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour Will Gross Nearly $200 Million

Tour kicked off in November 2009 and will run at least through April 2011. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Peter Wafzig/Getty Images There’s a reason Lady Gaga doesn’t ever seem to want to wrap up her globe-trotting Monster Ball Tour: It’s a moneymaking machine. Billboard is reporting that, by the time the curtain finally falls on the Ball — which kicked off in November 2009 and is scheduled to run until at least April 2011 — it will have grossed nearly $200 million worldwide. It’s a huge number, to be sure, and it’s more proof that Gaga has ascended to the upper echelon of touring acts. In 2009, U2’s 360 Tour was the year’s top-grossing jaunt, raking in more than $300 million, according to Billboard. Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour was at #2, with receipts of more than $220 million. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band landed at #3, grossing more than $156 million. In the nearly 10 months it’s been on the road, Gaga’s Monster Ball has made stops in North America, Europe, the U.K., Scandinavia, Asia and Australia. And a spokesperson for Live Nation Entertainment, which produced U2’s and Madonna’s tours — and also serves as the producer on the Monster Ball — told Billboard that Gaga’s tremendous touring success only serves as further proof that she’s arrived on the scene and has seized the public’s consciousness. “It’s an opportunity,” Live Nation global touring chairman Arthur Fogel said. “As an artist with that kind of talent and vision emerges, it creates a lot of excitement, and ticket sales worldwide demonstrate that people are really excited to see the show. “Over the course of the next many months, we’re trying to play to as many people in as many places as possible,” he added. “It’s an across-the-board home run.” Have you caught the Monster Ball yet? ‘Glee’ Star Lea Michele Wants Justin Timberlake Super Bowl Episode

‘If not Justin, I would hope it would be the sequel to the Madonna episode,’ Michele says of possible post-Super Bowl show. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lea Michele Photo: Jon Kopaloff/ Getty Images Back in January, Lea Michele told us she was hoping for a dance-off between Matthew Morrison’s Will Schuester and Justin Timberlake on “Glee.” Well, the show might be getting a little closer to securing JT and/or his music. “I think they are saving Justin Timberlake for the Super Bowl episode,” Michele told The Hollywood Reporter. “They have to be, because he is so perfect for our show. He has to be on it! When I met Jessica Biel, like a loser, I asked her to tell Justin to come on our show. [ Laughs. ] She was a little taken aback and said, ‘Um, OK. I’ll tell him.’ ” Michele said that if “Glee” producers don’t make a JT episode happen, she’s fine with revisiting the hitmaking catalog of his “4 Minutes” collaborator. “If not Justin, I would hope it would be the sequel to the Madonna episode,” she said. “She has so many more amazing songs we didn’t even touch.” When the New Directions crew might tackle Timberlake’s hits is still up in the air, but the cast is buzzing about delving into the hits of his ex, Britney Spears . Michele is slated to revamp Spears’ debut smash ” … Baby One More Time,” and Heather Morris (whose character happens to be named Brittany) has said she wants to switch up “Toxic.” “Circus” and “Stronger” are other jams from the pop princess that might turn up in the episode, but castmember Naya Rivera said homing in on a few Spears songs is a major challenge. “There are so many great Britney songs to choose from; how do you pick just one?” Rivera wondered. Mohammed-Phobic Comedy Central Lectures Conservatives About Religious Liberty? Jon Stewart’s That Shameless

Jon Stewart landed both his jokey feet on the Ground Zero Mosque controversy on The Daily Show Tuesday night. He mocked conservatives for having no respect for freedom of religion. This, from Comedy Central ? The network that mocks Jesus and Christians relentlessly, but censors whenever the radical Muslims threaten them ? Yes. Stewart was arguing for the “greatness” of Islam, that it should be accepted with great tolerance as a global religion – regardless of how much tolerance Islam demonstrates for freedom of religion. Stewart mocked conservatives and Republicans. “Haven’t these people ever heard of freedom of religion? Lieutenant Goveror of Tennessee, you wanna take this one?” He ran a hacked-up snippet of GOP Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey: “I’m all about freedom of religion [edit]…you could argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion, or is it a nationality way of life, or cult whatever you want to call it.” We’ll get to Stewart’s surgical removal of context later. Stewart made a shocked face, narrowed his eyes, and lectured: “I think religion is what they wanna call it. But point taken. I can see being confused with Scientology, or the thing that Madonna does with the red bracelets, of this whole Justin Bieber craze, certain World Warcraft guilds, Harry Potter book clubs. But I think over 1400 years and over a billion Twitter followers, Islam’s kind of an accepted religion now.” Again, this is a rich line of argument coming from Stewart, whose acidulous attacks on the Roman Catholic Church hardly qualifies as treating Catholicism as an “accepted religion.” Instead, it’s a den of perverts and hypocrites. It’s the “villain” that’s “easy to spot.” Stewart insisted that Islam deserved more respect than Harry Potter or Justin Bieber fan clubs, but unlike certain mosques, those groups haven’t been known to nurture terrorist cells.  Then Stewart moved on to mocking Newt Gingrich: “But some people don’t want to be lectured about religious liberty.” He ran a clip of Gingrich saying “I don’t want to be lectued by them about religious liberty when there’s not a single church or a single synaogue in Saudi Arabia.”  Stewart took the easy retort: “Why should we as Americans have higher standard of religious liberty than Saudi Arabia! Makes no sense!” The audience applauded. But it is Stewart and the Comedy Central crowd that are the shameless hypocrites about religious liberty. If they really believed in free expression, they might dare to mock radical Muslims instead of cower before them. Now let’s consider how much Fake-News Stewart edited out from Ramsey’s argument. Mediaite printed a fuller transcript (ks it’s all wonderfully wacko. But there’s certainly more substance in here about the Islamic threat to religious liberty than Stewart wanted to allow. It would ruin his perfectly cocky liberal rant. Ramsey said this (Stewart’s edit in bold) about controversy over permits for a mosque proposal in Murfreesboro, Tennessee: Now, I’m all about freedom of religion. I value the First Amendment as much as I value the Second Amendment as much as I value the Tenth Amendment and on and on and on. But you crossed the line when, when they start trying to bring Sharia law here to the state of Tenn, in the United States. We are a law- we live under our Constitution and they live under our Constitution. But it’s scary if we get there. It’s always arguable- and I’ve been studying this issue, but I’ll be right up front with you, like I say until two weeks ago, three weeks ago, nobody ever asked me about this on a governor’s race. And why do you ask about that? Til this mosque started coming in up there. I’ve been trying to learn about Sharia law, I’ve been trying to learn about what going on-, it is not good if that’s what’s going on. Now, you could argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion, or is it a nationality way of life, or cult whatever you want to call it . But certainly, we do want to protect our religions, but at the same times, this is something that we are gonna to have to face. Right now, though, the most ironic part of what’s happening in Rutherford County is I’m in the real estate business, you want to get something re-zoned, if you want to get something put in, that’s a three-month process. They approved that in 17 days [“mmm” from audience] in Rutherford County. The least they can do is back up, and say, let’s, let’s see what we’re doing over there, (inaudible) 53,000 square foot mosque in the middle of basically a neighborhood and they did it all almost overnight, 5:16. So that has become an issue, and what an issue. I’ve tried to study up on it. But I’ve read enough about Sharia law to know that it’s crazy. When liberal journalists (think Tom Brokaw) tout Jon Stewart as a precious steward of democracy, please remember how he’ll take video clips wildly out of context for a punchline. Tom Brokaw would think that would give bloggers a bad name, but apparently not fake news anchors.

‘Glee’ Star Jane Lynch Set To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

‘I notified her by accident,’ ‘Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy said of Lynch’s ‘SNL’ hosting gig. By Jocelyn Vena Jane Lynch Photo: Todd Williamson/WireImage Jane Lynch is about to get her funny on when she hosts “Saturday Night Live” next season. “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the rumor on Tuesday night in New York City at the “Eat Pray Love” premiere. The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Murphy at the premiere and he confirmed reports that Emmy-nominated Lynch will be onboard to helm an “SNL” episode in October. “I notified her by accident,” Murphy said. ” ‘Saturday Night Live’ called to say, ‘Would you give us Jane for a week in October?’ We just don’t do that, but for Lorne Michaels, I said yes.” Murphy then quickly texted his star to let her know she’d have to spend some time in New York City later this fall. “I said, ‘Lady, you’re doing ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ” Murphy explained. “And she literally wrote back, ‘What are you talking about?’ I think we’re all going to go to see her and support her.” However, a rep for “Saturday Night Live” told MTV News via email that “We haven’t confirmed any hosts or musical guests yet.” Until then, Lynch will be turning the lives of the Gleeks upside down as Sue Sylvester on the new season of “Glee” when it kicks off in September. So, what will her character be up to? Well, even Lynch is in the dark. “I don’t know! I have no idea!” Lynch, who very comically parodied Madonna’s “Vogue” last season , told MTV News last month. “I haven’t even seen a script and I don’t have any idea!” Are you excited that Jane Lynch will be hosting “Saturday Night Live” this fall?
