Rebel Wilson is about to embark on a Super Fun Night. The actress, who sky-rocketed to fame in Pitch Perfect , will anchor a new ABC sitcom this fall and is also featured on the cover of the latest New York Magazine, looking far more glamorous than usual. And far, far more glamorous than her character on the aforementioned series. “The girls in the show are at the bottom of the social pole, and it’s hard to communicate that to the network,” Wilson tells the publication. “It’s important they understand that comedy is not about looking good.” But Wilson sure does look good in a spread for the magazine. San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Colin Kaepernick poses shirtless on the new cover of GQ, hitting newsstands just in time for the new NFL season. The upstart came out of nowhere to lead San Francisco to the Super Bowl last season. What does he have planned for an encore here in 2013? We put nothing past him. A high school player who received no Division I college offers, and who wasn’t even deemed good enough to start last fall, he does not lack for overconfidence. Humble beginnings and a diverse background define Colin, adopted by Teresa and Rick Kaepernick, married high school sweethearts from Wisconsin. Biological and racial differences did not impede the love the Kaepernicks felt for their son. In fact, his dad says they brought them closer together. “Colin knew from the beginning that he was different,” says Rick. “We’d just say, ‘You’ve got such beautiful brown skin! We’re jealous! We never wanted him to feel he was white or that he should be. Only to be who he needed to be.” That would be a guy with swagger to spare – and SERIOUS tattoos – but don’t write him off as a dumb jock or a one-trick pony in the game of life. Colin graduated high school with a 4.1 GPA before moving on to the University of Nevada, where he was also a good student … so he’s the whole package. Long and short of it: Expect a lot of Kaepernicking this season. Check out more Colin photos from GQ and the recent ESPN Body Issue as well ..
Lady Gaga covers V Magazine this month. Four times over. Once again, the pop great is up to her famed chameleon tricks, donning a variety of outrageous clothing choices and hairstyles for all four covers. Georgia history books report 458 lynchings there from 1882-1930, making for “a permanent bruise on the Peach State,” a Savannah Morning News op-ed reads. Better make it 459 after the treatment Paula Deen has gone through, her hometown paper says, after the treatment she’s received over the past few weeks. We’re not paraphrasing, that’s their word of choice. The opinion piece states : “Savannah’s celebrity chef has been lynched – figuratively and publicly in the court of public opinion, and without a full and fair accounting of the facts.” Why? Mostly because the 66-year-old master of comfort food recipes and self-made mogul “said ‘no’ to the equivalent of a shakedown.” The editorial uses the lynching metaphor as “a reminder that justice should be dispensed in court, not at the end of a rope” or “by money-grubbing lawyers.” When Deen refused to pay $1.25 million in hush money to a former employee of her brother’s restaurant, the paper says, “the lynch mob began forming.” How bad was the effort to bilk and slander Paula? Savannah attorney S. Wesley Woolf reportedly wrote to Deen’s lawyer, on behalf of Lisa Jackson : “Exposure of the racist and sexist culture of her corporate and personal life is going to permanently, and irreparably, damage the value of the brand,” “If we are unable to settle, the Complaint will not be quietly filed. I am making arrangements for a press conference on the day of the filing.” “I have identified the journalist for the New York Times who covers civil rights matters and he will be provided a pre-filing exclusive.” “A nationwide press release will be issued to the major networks, newspapers, newsmagazines and news websites across the country.” The Times didn’t break the June 19 story about Deen using racial slurs (in the distant past) – the National Enquirer did – but the story spread rapidly. The Morning News notes that Jackson’s goal was “whipping a mob into a frenzy,” and calls it “a lynching for our times,” a term it insists is fitting. None of this absolves Deen from using a racist slur, the paper says, but “there is such as thing as punishment fitting the crime … this doesn’t come close.” “These rope burns were undeserved.” Do you agree? Was Deen the victim of a virtual lynch mob? Or did she deserve what she got? Share your comments with us and vote in our survey below: Should Deen have been fired? Yes, there is no excuse for what she did. No, cut the woman some slack people! No, I just like her food, who cares what she says/does! View Poll »
Kim Kardashian made sure her man’s first-ever Father’s Day was a memorable one this year. Kanye West revealed via Twitter that his baby mama gifted him with two Apple computer mice last month, one signed by Steve Jobs and and the other by Steve Wozniak. Their relevance? West told The New York Times recently that his is the Steve Jobs of the Internet . Kanye included the photo above along with his Tweet, one of just seven he has written since May. The entire World Wide Web, of course, continues to wait on photos of North West , as West and Kardashian remain oddly quiet and private regarding their newborn. We hope everything is alright.
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have reportedly pushed their wedding back , sparking rumors that the couple of several years may be on the rocks. As fans eagerly wait for her to become Mrs. Theroux, plans for the much-anticipated nuptials have slowed down in their 10-month engagement. Just a few months ago, planning was in full swing, says a source who speaks to Aniston often, and she even had a date in mind – for this spring. So much for that. “Wedding bands were designed and Jen was deciding on a dress,” says the source, but People ‘s cover story reports that “wedding talk has stopped.” Why? With both Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux overloaded with work commitments and a massive house renovation underway, they are just too busy. Or so we’re told. Is there something more troubling going on? “There are other priorities [besides marriage],” says a source who knows the couple, but wouldn’t elaborate beyond that somewhat cryptic assessment. With packed schedules and challenges of combining lifestyles, a second source says “they need to figure out a way to create a life that makes them both happy.” Still, an insider adds, “Jen can’t wait to be [Justin’s] wife.” So don’t write them off. Just don’t anticipate any tabloid covers like this that are actually true for awhile. The fake ones will keep popping up, though. Bank on it.
