Mountain Lion: Apple Announces New OS X for Macs

Move over, Snow Leopard and Lion. Make room for an even bigger cat: Apple announced its latest version of OS X for Macs, called Mountain Lion, today. Mountain Lion is said to be more like iOS than ever, as Apple integrates various mobile services and moves to yearly OS updates across all of its devices. Mountain Lion is available for preview today in two ways: If you’re a consumer, you can read about the new features at Apple’s website. If you have a developer account, you can download and install the new OS X. Anyone running OS X Lion can download and install the beta version of Messages, a new app replacing iChat for instant messaging, and integrates iMessages, the Apple-only text-message replacement service for iPhone, iPad and now Mac. Even the name “Messages” indicates Mountain Lion’s overarching philosophy. It extends OS X Lion’s “Back to the Mac” approach of pulling many ideas and concepts from Apple’s revolutionary mobile ecosystem back into the desktop machine. There’s no more iChat, iCal or Address Book. Just Messages, Calendar and Contacts. Same names on all products, no more outdated “i” in front of app names. AirPlay, Game Center, Reminders, Notes and Notification Center are all new to the Mac too, looking much like their iOS counterparts, according to Apple.

Watch Taylor Swift’s Hunger Games Music Video: ‘Safe & Sound’

When I first heard Taylor Swift ‘s Hunger Games soundtrack single, the twangy country ballad “Safe & Sound,” I wasn’t so keen on how Swifty channeled teen heroine Katniss Everdeen, T-Bone Burnett’s support or no. (I did, however, dig the gentle melodics of country folk duo The Civil Wars, who back Swift on the song and share songwriting credits with her and Burnett.) Now the music video for the single has debuted, a dreamy nature-themed joint that lovingly follows Swift as she traipses barefoot around the woods sharing meaningful glances with deer and twigs. While “Safe & Sound” has grown on me as a song, I still can’t totally sign off on Swift as a Katniss figure (the lyrics are inspired by Suzanne Collins’ book, and suggest the inner life of Katniss as she leaves her family behind in District 12 to fight in the Games). But Swift is lovely to look at, even if this video could easily be passed off as an Anthropologie ad or, you know, a tribute to Cold Mountain . The backdrop is a nice nod to Katniss’s imagined home in the region otherwise known as the Appalachians, where District 12 has been delineated in the nation of Panem in The Hunger Games trilogy. And, look! Swift finds a mockingjay pin in her disheveled country cabin! I’d have loved to have seen Swift pick up a bow and arrow and go hunt down that deer, or hide from intruders in the dirt, or wrassle with a gang of murderous youngsters, but I get it. She’s Taylor Swift. She is pristine in her white muslin dress, warbling beautiful melodies all alone in her thoughtful solitude. She is more Primrose than Katniss. Meanwhile, the shortest stick drawn goes to Joy Williams of The Civil Wars, who’s stuck playing third fiddle to Swift. For a full minute I thought she was playing Katniss’s near-catatonic mother. Anyways, check it out below and tell us what you think – an appropriate accompaniment to the March 23 pic? Spank the Anatomy: Celebrity Nudity on DVD and Blu-ray 1.31.12 [PICS]

We’ve got a slew of A-list nudity this week as Miramax wallows in its awards-show glory by releasing its greatest Oscar tits- er, hits- on Blu-ray. Among he skintastic titles are Frida (2002), featuring Salma Hayek nude and lesbian, The Piano (1993), starring Holly Hunter ‘s brown eye, The English Patient (1996) with nude stars Juliette Binoche and Kristin Scott-Thomas , Cold Mountain (2003), starring Nicole Kidman ‘s milky-white mountains, and Shakespeare in Love (1998), with Gwyneth Paltrow naked. Phew! Plus, they’re not Oscar winners, but you’ll still be rubbing your little bald man as Mischa Barton goes lesbo in You and I (2011) and Naoko Watanabe bares her rising suns in the bloody Japanese flick Outrage: Way of the Yakuza (2011), nude on DVD and Blu-ray: Bisexual artist Frida Kahlo liked to paint herself naked. Mr Skin doesn’t know a lot about art, but he knows what he likes. Starring as the sexy sketcher in Frida (2002) is South of the Border bombshell Salma Hayek . The story follows her life from a crippling bus crash to her volatile marriage to the Mexican muralist who couldn’t keep his paintbrush in his pants, Diego Rivera. Along the way there are a lot of girl-on-girl good times and artist’s models stripping for the carnal canvas, like Lucia Bravo . Ashley Judd nearly flops out of her flapper dress during a scene where she and Salma suck face. Overall, Frida is Salma’s exhibition, and her palette is fully exposed. She’s mute and has a tight little bod, so Holly Hunter is the perfect wife in the critically acclaimed film The Piano (1993). Too bad that she’s stuck with stodgy Sam O’Neill in an arranged marriage. The guy doesn’t even bother to carry the piano she brings all the way from Scotland. He just leaves it on the beach of his remote New Zealand home, leaving Hunter to take a long hike every time she wants to tickle the ivories. Fortunately, lecherous Harvey Keitel wants to tickle her ovaries. He makes a deal to own the piano and then blackmails the sexy gal into some sexual favors–which, in best romance novel fashion, soon leads to love and tragedy. Fast forward to the 1 hour, 3-minute mark, where T&A meets A&E as Holly decks us with her fine ass (and a bit of furburgerage) before tickling us with her titties. Ralph Fiennes plays a horribly burned man on his deathbed at the close of WWII in the critically-lauded film The English Patient (1997). But wait- don’t give up on this tear-jerker yet, because if you do you’ll miss out on a real jerk-off opportunity. While Fiennes may not be exactly attractive to the ladies as a scabby piece of human charcoal, he has a vivid memory. In flashbacks he recalls former lovers like Kristin Scott-Thomas , who does a full frontal getting into, then out of, the bath and shows breasts in a post-sex scene, and Juliette Binoche , who shows a breast in a brief, dark sex scene. Yes, be patient with this one, and you’ll be rewarded in your English royal jewels. In Cold Mountain (2003), wounded confederate soldier Inman ( Jude Law ) struggles to escape from the Civil War and return intact to his beloved belle Ada ( Nicole Kidman ). His lover girl spends her days wanting and waiting while trying to save her family’s farm with the help of “There ain’t no man better than me” ranch hand Ruby, played by ruddy-faced, plumply packed Ren

Michelle Williams ‘So Grateful’ For Oscar Nod

‘This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime,’ the ‘My Week With Marilyn’ star says in a statement. By Jocelyn Vena Michelle Williams in “My Week With Marilyn” Photo: The Weinstein Company Michelle Williams is getting Oscar love yet again. Williams is nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for “My Week With Marilyn,” facing off against screen legends and some fresh blood. “I am so grateful to be acknowledged by the Academy for my work, which was made possible by the support of our director Simon Curtis and the camaraderie of a terrific ensemble of actors — a special congratulations to [co-star] Kenneth Branagh — and the fearless Harvey Weinstein,” she said in a statement. “This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime. I would like to think that the recognition our film has received by the Academy is a testament to Marilyn’s legacy.” The other nominees in her category are Glenn Close (“Albert Nobbs”), Viola Davis (“The Help”), Rooney Mara (“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”) and Meryl Streep (“The Iron Lady”). Branagh, who earned a Best Supporting Actor nod for his work in “Marilyn,” was equally amped about the recognition. “It was a rare honour to play Sir Laurence Olivier,” he said in a statement. “To be recognised by the Academy for doing so is overwhelming. I’m absolutely thrilled.” Williams already won the Golden Globe for her role in the film earlier this month. This marks her third Oscar nod after previous nominations for “Blue Valentine” and “Brokeback Mountain,” though she has yet to take one home. Recently, former “Dawson’s Creek” co-star Joshua Jackson opened up about Williams’ critically lauded career . “It’s surreal, in that it would be surreal to see any of your friends [up for an Oscar]. It’s amazing. She’s an excellent actress,” he told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival . “Of all of us, when we finished that show, she was the one who had the clearest idea about what it was that she wanted to do. To be able to go out and achieve that is no small feat. I just think it’s wonderful.” See the complete list of Academy Awards Nominations . Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Gallery Of Poignant And Precious Moments Of His Life

In case you forgot, the reason why most of you are off tomorrow is that today is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday. Had his life not been cut short on April 4, 1968, Dr. King would have been 83 today. But he once said that his number of years were not what mattered: “Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people will get to the promised land.” And if you are a person of color living in America, there is no denying that Dr. King played a great role to getting you to your “promised land.” Hit the flip and check out a few of our favorite photos of Dr. King over the years and ten facts you may not have know about him.

[1] It’s never quite been clear to me why Linda Cardellini isn’t a bigger star. Cardellini’s talents have been apparent ever since she starred in Paul Feig’s Freaks & Geeks back in 1999, and over the years she’s shown remarkable range in projects ranging from the deadly somber (Brokeback Mountain) to the utterly silly (Legally Blonde, the Scooby-Doo films). I don’t know whether her next movie, Return,… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : /Film Discovery Date : 03/01/2012 21:58 Number of articles : 2
