Mike Myers ‘Interested’ In ‘Austin Powers’ Sequel

Reports that Myers had signed a deal for the follow-up to ‘Goldmember’ are contradicted by Deadline New York. By Terri Schwartz Mike Myers Photo: Lee Celano/AFP Oh behave, “Austin Powers” fans, because a sequel might not be in the works just yet. News broke over the weekend that Mike Myers was “signed, sealed, delivered” for “Austin Powers 4,” the long-awaited follow-up to 2002’s “Goldmember.” HitFix confirmed that Myers had signed a deal to return to the franchise, but now Deadline New York is reporting otherwise. The entertainment website is saying that, despite Myers’ interest in the project, no deal has been signed yet. Apparently all that’s happened is that Myers has expressed interest in a proposal for the movie that New Line presented six months ago, and it’s not a full-blown deal. The project had seemingly fallen by the wayside after Myers’ 2008 flick “The Love Guru” tanked at the box office, and he disappeared from Hollywood (barring a brief appearance in “Inglourious Basterds”). But New Line sought to revitalize the project recently and sent out a new offer about six months ago. Deadline is reporting that Myers’ representatives have finally responded that Myers is interested. There’s no word yet on whether Myers’ writing partner Michael McCullers will be back for the fourth installment. “Austin Powers” director Jay Roach also has not been announced for the upcoming flick. In fact, there’s no confirmation that a script has even been written, though New Line commissioned one in 2008 and Myers has frequently said that it’s a work in progress. But this news definitely seems to inspire hope that an “Austin Powers 4” deal is on its way at some point soon. The last MTV News heard about the project was at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival . Only a month earlier, Roach told MTV News that Myers was working on ideas for the script, though it wasn’t completed yet. Myers later echoed that while promoting “Shrek Forever After” at Tribeca. “Things are on track. It’s hard to keep a Stanley Cup team together and I’m very happy how insanely well it’s gone. Then it gets hard to get everybody all together. It’s chugging along,” Myers said. “I’d be very happy to do it in 7-D. I can’t tell you exactly how it works. Actually, I left the plans for it in a bar and somebody saw it. But it’s very exciting.” No word on “7-D” in either the Deadline or the HitFix reports, but fans of the franchise can rest easy knowing that it seems like an “Austin Powers 4” will likely hit theaters over the next few years. ‘Glee’: Five Reasons ‘3D Concert’ Sunk At The Box Office

We take a closer look at flick’s disappointing 11th-place debut. By Eric Ditzian Chris Colfer in “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” Photo: 20th Century Fox All is not well with the crooning kids of New Directions. “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” sunk at the multiplex this weekend, roping in just $5.7 million and landing in 11th place at the box office. So what happened? The film starred show faves Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer, notched an A-plus CinemaScore from moviegoers under 25, and was coming off a “Glee” season that averaged more than 10 million viewers . MTV News consulted with a few industry insiders about the movie’s opening and came up with five reasons to explain the box-office blunder: The Demo Successful 3-D concert films from Hannah Montana and Justin Bieber had one thing in common: a tween-centric audience. But as Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, points out, that’s simply not the case with “Glee.” “True fans of the TV series aren’t just teens,” he said. “The majority of fans are adults, and they certainly aren’t the demographic that will run out to see a concert film, especially one that is in 3-D. Besides, Gleeks most likely went to see the live performances that the film is based on.” Bock argues that, for “Glee,” the more accurate comparison is not Bieber’s “Never Say Never” but “U2 3D.” That film, he said, is the only other 3-D concert doc not geared toward a younger audience. “Despite U2 being one of the most popular bands on earth, that film barely scratched $10 million,” he added. The Marketing “Glee” not only suffered from having a core audience unfriendly to 3-D concert docs, but its marketing campaign failed to attract new eyeballs. According to Brandon Gray of Box Office Mojo , “In its marketing, ‘Glee’ was strictly for the hard-core Gleeks, as it came off as redundant and self-congratulatory to more casual watchers who can see the television series for free. Despite the show’s hype, only around an estimated 500,000 tickets were sold for the movie.” Even Fox TV execs reportedly weren’t pleased with the marketing effort, with an unnamed source from that department telling Deadline , “I think it was a sh—y campaign that did not effectively communicate what the movie was or that the people who had seen it reviewed it positively. I think the feature company took a very laid-back approach, feeling their only job was to alert the core fans, and that’s not enough to fill seats.” “The Help” Even if the marketing campaign had been stronger, “Glee” still had to battle at the box office with “The Help,” Emma Stone’s segregation-era drama (which opened with $25.5 million). The concert film came out on the losing end. “It’s quite obvious that ‘The Help’ came along and scooped up the attention of a huge section of female moviegoers,” said Phil Contrino, editor of Boxoffice.com. “When you have a film that over-performs like ‘The Help,’ it causes a ripple effect, and ‘Glee’ felt the brunt of it.” The 3-D So there were problems with demographics, marketing and a crowded multiplex. But let’s not forget the public has become less receptive to 3-D in general, often choosing to go the cheaper 2-D route if the movie at hand doesn’t feel like a must-see-in-3-D event. As successful as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” was, for example, a majority of audiences still opted for 2-D screenings over opening weekend. For “Glee,” the public had no such option. “Overall excitement was not too high, and the lack of a regular-priced 2-D option prompted cash-strapped teens to skip the film,” wrote Gitesh Pandya of Box Office Guru . The Overexposure Finally, “Glee” found itself not only fighting external competition, but itself. Perhaps there’s just a little too much “Glee” going on at the moment. “Kids can watch the real ‘Glee’ for free on Fox and faux ‘The Glee Project’ on Oxygen, so why spend their milk money on a movie ticket?” wrote Nikki Finke at Deadline . “And maybe ‘Glee’ is just over-exposed right now and not as cool as it was initially.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . The shattering glass must feel good on their fur?” [ The Hairpin ]

Final Destination 5: “Great Twist You Won’t See Coming”

See the original post here:

The stakes are higher and the deaths even more gruesome in Final Destination 5 , which opens today in theaters nationwide.   In the latest installment, Death is back from holiday and out to decimate the newest group of young teenagers who dare to defy its foolproof design.  With a heart-pounding suspension bridge collapse and a jaw-dropping twist ending, first time director Steven Quale and screenwriter Eric Heisserer have given  the Final Destination mythos a much needed reboot. The Urban Daily sat down with the cast to find out out what’s it’s like working on one of Hollywood’s creepiest franchises. Screenwriter Eric Heisserer on bringing something new to the Final Destination franchise: “I wanted to bring a moral dilemna  for the characters because if they’re just waiting to die in succession, it flattens the drama.” Arlen Escarpeta on escaping “the  curse of the black guy”  in horror films: “It’s such a stigma that the black guy always dies first.  Can I be like the Barack Obama of horror films?” P.J. Byrne on suffering for “his art”: “I had to go to an actual acupuncturist before filming, so they could put needles all over my body.  The two that destroyed me were the ones that went into my ears—it was rough, but I did it for the movie.” Courtney B. Vance on joining the “Final Destination” franchise: “I’m a very big fan of Avatar and (director) Steve Quale was a part of this.  So I told him whatever I can do, I want to be a part of it.” Jacqueline Macinnes Woods on shooting the laser eye surgery scene: “We shot from 9 at night til 6 in the morning.  The eye speculum went in and out of my eye like 70 times. They numbed my eye put the speculum in, they even glued my eyelashes to my eyebrows.  At one point I was so tired but I couldn’t sleep because my eye couldn’t fully close.” Miles Fisher on his character’s trajectory from good guy to bad guy: “It was a challenge. When I read the script I thought “Ok, what would you do if in one second, hundreds of people died in front of you including your friends and work colleagues? If what happened in the film happened in real life I think some people would truly go crazy.” Ellen Wroe (a real life gymnast)  shared the worst gymnastics injury she ever witnessed: “My sister Winnie was doing a double back dismount and she over-rotated her knee, and her knee hit her cheek.  Her entire cheekbone broke in eight places; she had to get plastic surgery.  Luckily, nothing has happened to me. ” Tony Todd responding to various theories as to the true identity of his character William Bludworth: “When I started on the first Final Destination I created this whole backstory.  What is interesting (about Bludworth) is that he primarily delivers exposition.  People bring their own sense of mortality in watching.  If you think he’s the angel of death, which he’s not, or the Grim Reaper, which he’s not, that’s what you get out of it.” Nicholas D’agosto on going toe to toe with in his scenes with Tony Todd: “He’s a tall guy, he has a very imposing physical presence.  When he’s Bludworth he plants his feet and looks at you and speaks to you directly and when people do that, you’re intimidated.  When Tony looked at me I blanked out and asked “Um, can I do that again and get my lines right this time?” Emma Bell on the surprising twist to the end of Final Destination 5: “I thought it was great.  Up until that point I thought the film was really good.  The minute we got to the set to film the final scene I thought “Wait a minute!” That’s when it dawned on me.  It’s a great twist and I hope the fans will really enjoy it, because you won’t see it coming.”

‘Dirty Dancing’ Remake A ‘Big Challenge,’ Director Says

‘I hope we can bring something unique and original to help change the naysayers’ minds about the film,’ Kenny Ortega tells ‘The Insider.’ By Terri Schwartz Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the 1987 classic “Dirty Dancing” Photo: Getty Images Kenny Ortega has been tasked with remaking the 1987 classic “Dirty Dancing,” and he knows you aren’t happy about it. The announcement earlier this week was met with seemingly universal backlash, especially in MTV News’ comment section. Commenter lisha.16 lashed out against Hollywood’s continued dependence on remakes, while Valerie Anne Devine pointed out that “Dirty Dancing” is “not broken therefore does not require a makeover.” In an interview with “The Insider,” Ortega said he was initially in the same boat. “Saying yes to this project was a really tough decision for me, and one that I wrestled with for a long time,” said the “This Is It” director, who was a choreographer on the original “Dirty Dancing.” “I had to be won over too.” So far, there’s no script or casting ideas set, just the idea to remake the movie first made famous by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. But “Dirty Dancing” is no stranger to reinvention. The movie inspired a successful Broadway musical as well as the 2004 box-office flop “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.” Ortega said his first step in creating this remake is to not try to top anything the original movie did. “We have a big challenge and a long road ahead of us,” Ortega said. “All I can say is that I hope we can bring something unique and original to help change the naysayers’ minds about the film.” That starts with not trying to find a way to replace Swayze and Grey. “They’re one of a kind, and they deserve to be called that,” he said. Ortega said he has been impressed with “So You Think You Can Dance” finalist Melanie Moore’s skills and told her live on the air that she has a role waiting for her in the film if she wants it. He also said that he would love to find a role for Grey in the remake if she’d want to be part of it. As for who should play male lead Johnny Castle, MTV’s Hollywood Crush blog suggested Ryan Gosling could be a pretty good choice. Ortega is no stranger to fans rebelling against remakes of ’80s dance flicks. He was originally attached to direct the upcoming “Footloose” remake before dropping out because he didn’t like the tone Paramount wanted for their modernized take. It will be interesting to see whether Ortega’s “Dirty Dancing” also gets updated to the present day with current popular dancing or if it maintains the 1960s setting and styles that the original had. Robert Pattinson on Edward Cullen: Sort of a P-ssy!

Edward Cullen, lame? Who would dare make such an accusation?!? Robert Pattinson, that’s who. In the latest Entertainment Weekly – the publication’s Fall Movie Review, on newsstands tomorrow – the actor jokes around about his iconic Twilight Saga character and seems to take issue with some of his decisions. Simply put, Rob says : “There are a lot of moments when Edward sort of acts like a p-ssy.” Such as? Consider this a SPOILER ALERT, but he has an example: When Bella’s pregnancy makes her violently ill, yet she still wants Jacob ( Taylor Lautner ) around… “My wife is dying, I have completely f-cked up my life and hers, and Jacob’s like [To Bella] ‘Hey, baby, you don’t look too bad to me.’ And I’m just sitting there, like, with a bucket collecting [Bella’s] vomit. That really wouldn’t happen. I should have thrown the vomit at him.” LOL, Rob cracks us up. Pick up the latest issue of EW for a lot more on Breaking Dawn .

Star Wars XXX: a Nude Hope for Porn Parodies [VIDEO]

Porn parodies are ubiquitous these days- just name a movie or a TV show, and there’s a porn parody for it. The Brady Bunch ? Yup . Seinfeld ? Uh huh . Barney and Friends ? Ew, no! That’s just gross. So it’s not news that Vivid is currently producing Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody , in stores and online September 1. The news is that, judging from the trailer, even the non-naked parts look pretty good. Usually porn parody trailers are an exercise in tedium, since of course you can’t put any of the really good stuff on YouTube, but the Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody trailer actually contains a few quality laffs. Star Wars isn’t exactly stacked with female characters, so most of the intergalactic intercourse will be perv-formed by the lovely Allie Haze , seen at left, as Princess Leia, plus an assortment of female storm troopers and cantina patrons . Star Wars XXX: A Porn Parody will also be released in 3D, because if there’s one thing we can’t let the Asians overshadow us in, it’s porn. They did it first , but we’ll do it better, damn it! If this series is successful, by the time they get to Star Wars, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, director Axel Braun may be able to pull off the skinpossible: a porn parody that’s better than the movie it’s based on. And yes, Chewbacca DOES get a sex scene. See the trailer after the jump!
