Demi Lovato To Drop ‘Skyscraper’ Next Tuesday

Song will debut on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images Demi Lovato is ready to launch her comeback. On Tuesday the singer will drop her highly anticipated new single, “Skyscraper.” It will debut on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show , and the singer will also call in to chat with Seacrest about the track. This marks Lovato’s first big release of any kind since leaving treatment earlier this year. And while little is known about the song, Lovato told MTV News last summer that she was planning on making more R&B-sounding music. “I’m now just taking that next step and learning how to make my music more radio-friendly but also stay very artistic, and for me that’s R&B,” she said, revealing her dream of collaborating with Drake or Trey Songz . “I can put my vocal stylings on songs that are R&B and it showcases my vocals more than just singing really loud on a rock song.” In a Seventeen magazine blog post , she wrote, “My first single is really special to me — to me it symbolizes my journey from the person I was to the happy healthy person I am today, and the fact that people are able to rise above anything, despite the odds.” Lovato revealed on Twitter that she has shot a video for the new track, but no word yet on when it will drop. Just this week, she tweeted that she had recorded a duet for her forthcoming album, but she didn’t reveal with whom. In Seventeen she wrote that she wanted her new album to empower her fans. “With my new album, I’m hoping to provide inspiration for girls everywhere who are going through the same issues I’ve faced,” she said. “I think this will come through in a lot of the material.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato

Jay-Z Shares Sneak Peek Of Watch The Throne

Hov played more than a dozen tracks from his collabo with Kanye for MTV News on Thursday night. By Alvin Blanco Jay-Z Photo: Scott Wintrow/Getty Images NEW YORK — Jay-Z and Kanye West’s forthcoming album may be called Watch the Throne, but soon enough fans will be listening, not just looking, and it will have been worth the wait. On Thursday night, MTV News was among the shortlist of media outlets invited to get an early listen to power duo’s collaborative project. The listening session was held in the Mercer Hotel, where the New York Post previously reported that parts of the album were recorded. Though it was originally set to begin at 8 p.m., Jay-Z walked into the hotel lobby closer to 9 (word is he was at a Yankees game hoping to see Derek Jeter get his 3,000th hit). The group of journalists followed the rapper up to a suite that had been transformed into a recording studio. Seated in the rear of the room, wearing a Yankees snap-back hat and crisp, white shell-toe Adidas, Hova balanced a MacBook Pro in his lap. After asking those in attendance to introduce themselves, he got right into playing selections from the album, loudly. Standout tracks included a pair of songs that feature Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean . Jay-Z relayed that he reached out to Ocean after hearing his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape and wanted him to contribute to his next solo album. After their initial work went well — Ocean appears on one of two songs Jay-Z revealed he has recorded for the solo LP — Hova invited the crooner to get down on Watch the Throne too. The only other guest on the album is Beyonc

How Die Hard and Night at the Museum Are the ‘Exact Same Movie’

Screenwriters Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant have mastered the art of screenwriting enough to generate twelve figures at the box office (through movies like Night at the Museum , Herbie Fully Loaded and The Pacifier ) and in their new book Writing Movies For Fun and Profit: How We Made a Billion Dollars at The Box Office and You Can, Too! , the duo gives aspiring Hollywood scribes tips so that they can do the very same. And it all stems from the simple lesson the duo revealed in a recent NPR interview , during which Garant explained that every movie “is exactly the same” using Die Hard , Night at the Museum , Casablanca and The Matrix as examples.

Michelle Obama Is Off To Africa To Find Young Leaders

‘We’ll be looking across the continent for young people — just like you — to help lead the way,’ first lady says of next week’s trip. By Eric Ditzian Michelle Obama Photo: Getty Images First lady Michelle Obama has made youth leadership, education and health and wellness prime focuses of her work in the White House. Next week, Mrs. Obama will take that laudable agenda worldwide during a trip to Africa with her mother and daughters — and MTV and BET are coming along for the ride. “We know that Africa is a fundamental part of our interconnected world,” Obama said of her upcoming trip. “And when it comes to meeting the challenges of our time, whether it’s climate change or extremism, poverty or disease, the world is looking to African nations as vital partners. And we’ll be looking across the continent for young people — just like you — to help lead the way.” The first lady and her family will be making stops in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, and Gaborone, Botswana, in an effort to engage and empower youth around the globe. MTV News and its social platforms will be covering the journey, and BET will air a 30-minute news special called “Impact on Africa: On a Mission With the First Lady,” hosted by journalist Lola Ogunnaike and featuring exclusive footage of the Obamas at official events. “We’re so excited to engage with BET and MTV’s audiences throughout this historic trip,” said Kristina Schake, communications director for the first lady. “Mrs. Obama has called on young people at home, in Africa, and around the world to follow the trip and connect with each other. We know that young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but also are the leaders of today, and we want their voices to be heard.” Mrs. Obama’s trip is a continuation of her work to engage young people at home and abroad, from mentoring students in the United States and encouraging them to gain international experience, to encouraging young people to excel academically, serve and lead during her visits to Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, India, Mexico and the United Kingdom. The first lady plans to deliver the keynote address to a U.S.-sponsored Young African Women Leaders Forum in South Africa and visit the Johannesburg Apartheid Museum and Robben Island Prison Museum in Cape Town, where Nelson Mandela and many anti-apartheid leaders were imprisoned. BET’s special will also include a “Reporter’s Journal,” during which Ogunnaike will write blog entries along the route capturing special moments of the trip and her personal experience. “I look forward to having you with us on this journey, and I look forward to the connections that you’ll build, the lessons you’ll learn and the impact that you’ll make with young people around the world for months and years to come,” the first lady said. To help spread the word about the trip, follow updates about the goings-on and interact with others, head to Act.MTV.com or get in the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #youngafrica.
