Exclusive: Who’s the (New) Boss on Parenthood?

Mark Zuckerberg is headed to NBC’ s Parenthood … sort of, but not really. Allow me to explain: Anthony Carrigan — last seen in ABC’ s presciently titled Christian Slater-led thriller, The Forgotten — is joining the sophomore drama as Adam’s (Peter Krause) new wunderkind-esque boss.

Conan O’Brien Is Living in the Past [Video]

Conan O’Brien debuted his new TBS show last night. The only jokes he made were about getting fired by NBC. It was like a first date with a guy who only talks about what a bitch his ex-girlfriend is. Enough! More

NBC Finds Most Americans Oppose Repeal of ObamaCare, But CBS Reports ‘Just 30%’ Favor ObamaCare

Sunday’s Today show on NBC and Sunday Morning on CBS presented seemingly contradictory polling results on how much ObamaCare is supported by the American public, although both seemed to be citing the same AP poll. As Meet the Press host David Gregory appeared on Today, anchor Lester Holt suggested that Republicans are going against the majority of Americans in promising to repeal ObamaCare as he vaguely referred to polling data and contended, “But new polling out suggests that most people not only do they not want to, don’t want it repealed, they want more added to it,” and added, “Do Republicans have to refine this message and take a better look at it?” According to the AP poll as reported at msnbc.com , “four in 10 adults think the new law did not go far enough to change the health care system.” By contrast, on Sunday Morning, CBS anchor Charles Osgood briefly recounted numbers from the AP poll which suggested that ObamaCare is unpopular. Osgood: “A poll commissioned by the Associated Press finds just 30 percent of Americans in favor of the new health care law, 30 percent are neutral, and 40 percent oppose it. Four out of 10 respondents say the new law doesn’t do enough to change the health care system.” Returning to NBC, Gregory did not comment directly on whether he believed the poll’s accuracy, as he argued that the Republican message may indeed be successful, and went on to raise the theory from the left that ObamaCare will become more popular as people benefit from it: If the message is government’s out of control, they passed this huge entitlement, it’s going to cost a lot of money and have you felt the effects of it yet, I think that has the shot to be a winning political message. But the more people start to feel health care reform, so the argument goes, it will become more popular. But that has not exactly been the case across the board yet with health care reform, and that’s why the President has to keep hammering away at it. Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Sunday, September 26, Sunday Morning on CBS, followed by the same day’s Today show on NBC: #From the September 26 Sunday Morning on CBS: CHARLES OSGOOD: A poll commissioned by the Associated Press finds just 30 percent of Americans in favor of the new health care law, 30 percent are neutral, and 40 percent oppose it. Four out of 10 respondents say the new law doesn’t do enough to change the health care system. #From the September 26 Today show on NBC: LESTER HOLT: The President in his weekly radio address, he talked about the Pledge for America, it’s the Republican pledge that they have released. One of the things they talked about was going after the health care, repealing the health care bill. But new polling out suggests that most people not only do they not want to, don’t want it repealed they want more added to it. Do Republicans have to refine this message and take a better look at it? DAVID GREGORY: Well, I think that, from a political point of view, if the message is government’s out of control, they passed this huge entitlement, it’s going to cost a lot of money and have you felt the effects of it yet, I think that has the shot to be a winning political message. But the more people start to feel health care reform, so the argument goes, it will become more popular. But that has not exactly been the case across the board yet with health care reform, and that’s why the President has to keep hammering away at it. HOLT: This Pledge for America, of course, many compare it to the contract from 1994. How does it differ? GREGORY: Well, I mean, it is, it’s very similar. It lacks some specifics that the ’94 contract had. But one thing that’s similar is that what’s more important than the Pledge to America, what’s more important than the Contract with America is the political climate in which they’re operating. The truth is it’s the unpopularity of President Obama and his policies right now that’s hurting democrats more than faith in the Republicans which, by the way, is an argument that the Presidents trying to exploit and say, look, the alternative is not the way to go here.

Last Night on Community: ‘I Don’t Like Where That’s Going’

Uh-oh. Having been a major cheerleader for the first season of Community — and having done a Derek Jeter-like fist pump when NBC wisely renewed the under-watched comedy for a second season — my hopes were high for the season premiere. Maybe that was a mistake.

A Puking Tony Stark was Supposed to Open Iron Man 2

I already like the movie better. In this past summer’s pretty disappointing Iron Man 2 , the movie opens with Iron Man calmly walking out onto the platform of an open plane cargo door. Them without comment, he jumps out and pretty routinely flies down to the applause of adoring fans — followed by two hours of explosions.

Breaking: Jeff Zucker Steps Down at NBC

You won’t have Jeff Zucker to kick around anymore. According to the New York Times ‘ Bill Carter , Zucker sent an e-mail this morning to his employees informing them that he would set down as CEO of NBC Universal when the Comcast takeover of the company was complete. “Look, I knew from the day this was announced that this was a possibility,” Zucker told Carter. “I wasn’t going to shut the door on anything. But in the last nine months it became increasingly clear that [Comcast] did want to put their own team in place — and I didn’t want to end up being a guest in my own house.” Developing… [ NYT /Media Decoder ]

The 9 Worst Shows NBC Aired During Jeff Zucker’s Tenure

It was a bittersweet moment for the Internet when Jeff Zucker announced earlier today that he was leaving NBC . Sweet, of course, because most people deem Zucker the enemy in the Great Late Night War of 2010, and it’s a nice bit of schadenfreude to see him walking out the same door as Conan O’B rien. But it’s bitter, too; now which network executive is everyone going to mock and insult? That remains up for debate, but what isn’t is that Zucker’s reign of terrible television is over. Ahead, take a trip with Movieline down memory lane to remember the 9 worst shows from his tenure.

Today Show Refuses to Attach Democratic Label in CA ‘Corruption On Steroids’ Story

NBC’s Tamron Hall blared, “It’s being called ‘corruption on steroids'” while George Lewis added, “It’s been an angry summer in Bell, California, once people learned that city officials awarded themselves huge six figure salaries at taxpayer’s expense.” However neither of them mentioned, in two different stories on Wednesday’s Today show, that those corrupt officials belonged to the Democratic Party. Lewis, strangely, couldn’t even bother to identify the party of Jerry Brown — who has a soundbite in the piece going after the officials — as he just called him “The California attorney general running for governor.” Incidentally, the Today show wasn’t the only news outlet to conveniently drop the “D” label next to those officials accused of bilking California taxpayers. As Newsbusters’ Lachlan Markay  pointed out on Tuesday, “ABC, CBS, the Los Angeles Times, the Associated Press, Bloomberg, USA Today, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and the San Francisco Chronicle all reported on the arrests today without mentioning party affiliations.” The following Lewis story and Hall anchor brief were the September 22 Today show: [8:02am] TAMRON HALL: In Bell, California it’s being called “corruption on steroids.” Eight current and former city officials spent the night in jail after being arrested for misappropriating more than $5 million in city funds. NBC’s George Lewis has details. George, good morning. [On screen headline: “‘Corruption On Steroids’ California City Officials Busted For Graft”] GEORGE LEWIS: Good morning, Tamron. It’s been an angry summer in Bell, California, once people learned that city officials had awarded themselves huge six figure salaries at taxpayers’ expense. Now those officials face serious felony charges. City Manager Robert Rizzo, busted at his luxury home in Huntington Beach, California, had home had been pulling down $800,000 a year in salary, twice what President Obama makes. His total benefits came to about $1.5 million annually. STEVE COOLEY, LOS ANGELES COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY: The charges accuse Rizzo of being responsible for at least $4.3 million of the city’s losses. LEWIS: Rizzo is one of eight city officials, present and former, charged with numerous accounts of misappropriating public funds. When police went after Mayor Oscar Hernandez, they had to break down the door of his house with a battering ram. COOLEY: This was calculated greed and theft accomplished by deceit and secrecy. LEWIS: The district attorney making it clear he’s going after anyone connected with this. COOLEY: I would charge my mother if I had evidence against my mother. UNIDENTIFIED OFFICIAL: Please I need respect from everybody. Please! LEWIS: In July, when people found out about the astronomical salaries the city officials were getting, they stormed city council meetings demanding their resignation. And when news came of the arrests on Tuesday, some citizens literally jumped for joy. UNIDENTIFIED MAN: We did it! I’m happy. I’m happy! This is what I was waiting for from the very beginning. UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN: We just love the idea of all the city council going to jail in handcuffs. LEWIS: The California attorney general running for governor is suing the Bell City officials trying to recover much of the money. JERRY BROWN, CALIFORNIA ATTORNEY GENERAL: When you see it, you can smell it. And this stinks to high heaven. LEWIS: Today when former city manager Rizzo appears in court, the district attorney will ask the judge to set his bail at $3.2 million. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is asking the attorney general to appoint a temporary overseer to run day to day business in Bell. Tamron? HALL: Alright George, thanks a lot. … [9:02am] TAMRON HALL: And eight current and former city officials in Bell, California are facing charges of bilking taxpayers out of millions of dollars. A prosecutor called the case “corruption on steroids.”
