Robin Williams and Susan Schneider got married at the luxurious Meadow Wood Resort in the Napa Valley town of St. Helena, Calif. on Sunday, his rep confirms. Schneider, who heads up the graphic design firm Critical Eye Design, told the San Francisco Chronicle she was “so excited and so thrilled” for her big day. Here’s a photo of the newlyweds from earlier this year: It’s the third marriage for the Good Morning Vietnam star, who finalized his divorce with second wife Marsha last year. Robin has three children: son Zachary, 28, with first wife Valerie, and daughter Zelda, 22, and Cody, 19, with ex Marsha. He met Schneider shortly before undergoing heart surgery in mid-2009. Daughter of the groom Zelda Williams tweeted Saturday: “Let the wedding madness begin! Dad just called @RobertKazinsky and @ShannonCollis my hetero-lifemates at the wedding,” she cracked of two male pals. “Just realized that my tweets have probably been misconstrued. No, it’s not my wedding, hahaha. Thanks for the congratulations regardless.” LOL. Congratulations to the actual newlyweds, regardless! [Photo: WENN.com]
‘Twilight’ actress and ‘American Idol’ alum tweet about Sunday’s Malibu nuptials. By Jocelyn Vena Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed (file) Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images The first 24 hours of Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald’s married life seem to be going quite well. The newlyweds took to Twitter to let their fans know just how happy they are after Sunday’s wedding. “Yesterday was the most magical day of my life…” the “Twilight” actress tweeted Monday (October 17), one day after she said “I do” to the “American Idol” singer. “Yesterday was the most amazing day of my life,” Mc Donald wrote , echoing his bride’s enthusiasm. “Everything was perfect. I’m officially a MARRIED MAN! Woohoo!” The couple married in front of 100 guests in Malibu on Sunday. E! News reports that “Idol” singer Stefano Langone played the reception, along with McDonald’s band, Grand Magnolias. McDonald also reportedly performed at the party. “Spy Kids” star and Reed pal Alexa Vega served as a bridesmaid at the festivities. “We couldn’t be happier!” the couple said in a statement after news broke of their wedding. “[We were] surrounded by our family and friends. We’re so glad this day has come!” The two began dating in April and got engaged just two months later. They announced their plans to marry at the MTV Movie Awards in June, where Reed was spotted sporting an engagement ring. “She’s amazing. It’s kind of one of those things you don’t expect,” McDonald gushed to MTV News earlier this year. “Like, last year I never would have thought I’d be getting married. She’s amazing. She’s the perfect girl. We fit each other. When you know, you know, and she’s the one.” The pair have been quite public about their relationship. McDonald plans to release an album tentatively called The Nikki Reed EP, and when Reed hit up the Teen Choice Awards in August, she was sporting Paul’s face on her nails and revealed that he was being quite the bridezilla . “He’s doing a lot of it, he is. He’s, like, taking control,” Reed said about McDonald’s part in the wedding planning. “He sits with his computer in between songs and is kind of on a roll with everything.” Leave your well-wishes for the newlyweds in the comments below!
Producer Ehren Kruger talks about the newlyweds’ performance in the thriller, in our Fall Movie Preview. By Josh Horowitz Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz in “Dream House” Photo: Universal Pictures Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz married in a quiet New York ceremony in June, an idyllic union that presents a stark contrast to their onscreen marriage in “Dream House.” A genre mash-up with thriller and horror elements directed by Jim Sheridan, the film begins with a familiar setup: Craig, Weisz and their daughters move to a new home, only to discover their quarters are nothing like what they expected. From there, though, “Dream House” takes a twist, one that makes viewers reconsider everything they’ve previously seen and which was revealed in a surprisingly spoiler-filled trailer this summer. Click for photos from fall’s biggest flicks! But as producer Ehren Kruger told MTV News recently, that twist is just one in a flick filled with them. If you think you know everything “Dream House” has in store, he made clear that you’re missing all the clues — just as Kruger and the rest of the cast and crew seemingly missed the signs on set that Craig and Weisz’s heated on-camera coupling was the beginning of a trip down the aisle. As part of our Fall Movie Preview, we not only have a chat with Kruger, but the first clip from the film, in which Weisz confesses that she’s certain something is wrong with their new home and Craig promises to hire a priest or “feng shui the place.” Hit play on the video above and the read on for Kruger’s interview. MTV : You’ve got some impressive talent in front of and behind the camera. How did all those pieces of the puzzle come together? Ehren Kruger : It started with the original script by David Loucka, which blended genres in a very interesting way. That caught the eye of Jim Sheridan, and he’s not a director who is known for doing straightforward genre pieces. So he responded to some of the deeper character ideas in the script, and once he became interested, we started developing the script with him and very quickly there were actors like Daniel and Rachel and Naomi [Watts] that were interested in being a part of it, because his reputation is so wonderful with performance. You don’t always get that in genres that are perceived as just a mystery or just a scary movie or just a thriller, so getting involved in this allowed the actors to bring their A-game and challenge themselves performance-wise. MTV : As you said, this is not the type of film that Jim Sheridan normally takes on. Why was he the right guy for the job? Kruger : He’s often dealing with families in an emotional crisis. He really responds to that sort of environment, so while this story has a lot of the scary genre trappings and mystery trappings, at its core it’s really a family that’s in intense crisis. MTV : In terms of developing the script, what are the influences you drew on? Kruger : It shares some genre DNA with movies like “The Others” or “The Sixth Sense” or “Rosemary’s Baby” and movies that really try to cast a spell in terms of mood. In the world of scary thriller mysteries, there are the vampires and the zombies and the mask killers. They are very upfront with what is scary about them. And then there are the more traditional ghost-story antagonists, where their secrets can play something even more sinister. You don’t quite know who is pulling the strings and what to be afraid of. We talked about some of those classic ghost-story influences like “The Haunting” or “The Innocence” or “The Shining,” movies where you are dealing with something you initially think you can fight or combat but then aren’t sure if you can at all. MTV : Tell us about what Daniel brought to the table, how he approached the material and how he made the character his own. Kruger : He’s a very intense person, and it comes across in his roles and on the screen. This is a character who, on the outside, seems like an everyman, a family man, but you come to find out he has a number of demons of his own. Daniel was really able to dig into those and pull off a very intense portrayal of a man trying to protect his family in nearly an impossible situation. It’s a very valiant performance from him. And the chemistry between him and Rachel, which is kind of the core of the film, is really great. MTV : Was their relationship off camera apparent to you on the set? Kruger : They are both very focused actors, so you just figured they were really committed to their performance of this married couple. There is method acting and I guess there is matrimonial method acting. But I wouldn’t say it was apparent during shooting. They were playing the roles as professional, and it went from there. MTV : You show a big twist in the trailer about the murders that took place in the house. How do you make the decision of how much to reveal and how early? Kruger : It’s always a trick with movies that start off seeming like one thing and then turn into something else. In the case of this movie, it turns into something else again. You just have to make the decision of what is the best way to tell the audience that they are going to be getting more than what they think they are getting. You could have a trailer that doesn’t reveal any of the revelations that they will come to find out about — the house where he lives and the family — and then there’s just not quite enough juicy material to sell the movie. You have to provide a little and assure the audience there’s going to be more revelations. MTV : When do you find out who the murderer is in the movie? Kruger : It will be in the first half of the movie that you are getting the revelations that are in the trailer, so there is still half of the movie of mystery to tell. J.J. Abrams movie is only non-sequel in the top five. By Ryan J. Downey Joel Courtney in “Super 8” Photo: Paramount “Super 8” took the #1 spot at the box office over the weekend. The film’s $37 million opening isn’t on par with recent summer blockbusters, but it did beat studio expectations, according to reports. And “Super 8” bears the distinction of being the only non-sequel in the weekend’s top five. The “Super 8” marketing campaign employed many of the tactics used to promote 2008’s “Cloverfield,” which was produced by “Super 8” writer/ director J.J. Abrams. The movie stars a cast of relative unknowns and features a plot that was largely kept hidden in the trailers. Abrams devised “Super 8” as something of an homage to the work of Steven Spielberg, who served as producer. Reviews have been largely positive. “For all its obvious touches of Spielbergia, ‘Super 8’ feels a whole lot like ‘The Iron Giant’ meets ‘Stand by Me,’ ” wrote FEARnet’s Scott Weinberg. “Super 8” was produced by Paramount, which like MTV is owned by Viacom. The weekend’s only other new movie in wide release was “Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer,” a children’s film based on the widely popular series of books by Megan McDonald, who co-wrote the script. The movie opened poorly, landing at #7 with just $6.2 million. And it’s one of the worst reviewed films of the year so far, according to critical aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. “X-Men: First Class” was #2 in its second week of release with $25 million for a $98.8 million total. The superhero prequel is the best reviewed of the franchise since 2003’s “X2: X-Men United.” Meanwhile, “The Hangover Part II” passed “Fast Five” to become the highest-grossing movie of 2011 thus far. The buddy comedy took in $18.5 million for a $216.5 million domestic total. Critics have largely panned the film, although co-star Zach Galifianakis detailed plans for another sequel in a recent interview with magazine (he did not confirm his involvement). “Kung Fu Panda 2” came in at #4 at the box office. The animated sequel, which features Jack Black as the voice of the title character, took in $16.6 million for a $126.9 million total. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” was #5 with $10.8 million for a $208.7 million total. This weekend’s new releases include “Green Lantern,” starring Ryan Reynolds as the DC Comics superhero; “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” starring Jim Carrey; and the PG-13 romance “The Art of Getting By.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Super 8.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
