Saturday Night Live Scorecard: Was the Third Time a Charm for Host Robert De Niro?

Robert De Niro returned for his third Saturday Night Live hosting gig last night, and the usually befuddled host was, this time, surprisingly… OK. Look, the guy is never going to be considered one of the great hosts — a screen legend always seeming to be a little bit out of his element. For starters, De Niro, more than almost any other recurring host, doesn’t really hide the fact that he reads off of cue cards (of course, because of so many last-minute changes, everyone on SNL reads off of cue cards, but some work harder than than others at hiding this). But, dammit, there’s something endearing about the fact that he keeps trying. It would be going a little far to say that the third time was a charm — but his third time was, let’s say, serviceable (with some help from Ben Stiller). On to the scorecard!

Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Paramore Salute Troops At ‘VH1 Divas’

By Matt Elias Keri Hilson, Grace Potter, Kathy Griffin, Jennifer Nettles, Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry onstage during ?VH1 Divas Salute the Troops? Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images Who says there’s no room for divas in the military? On Friday night, VH1 brought out the big guns in female music — plus their male backed bands — for “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops,” taped at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego. Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Keri Hilson, Paramore, Sugarland and Grace Potter & the Nocturnals all performed for the troops, along with special celebrity appearances. Set in a large air hangar, hostess Kathy Griffin made a grand entrance atop a missile flanked by Marines, wearing nothing but a camouflage bikini. She set the tone for the night by reading the official USO rules for entertainers, and then proceeded to break every single one. Of course, the sharp-tongued comedian pointed out the divas that couldn’t be there: Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber. “Turns out he’s a dude,” Griffin joked. The night’s first performance actually took place across the globe. Paramore taped their portion at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. Hayley Williams (rocking cotton candy-colored hair) and company belted out “The Only Exception.” Back in San Diego, the show really got started with pop pinup Katy Perry. Hanging from a harness that looked like an American flag parachute, Katy floated over the crowd while performing “California Gurls.” Decked out in full patriotic gear, Katy followed with “Teenage Dream” and “Hot and Cold.” Next up were Sugarland, who were introduced by supermodel Marissa Miller and a special serviceman, Sugarland vocalist Jennifer Nettles’ brother. The country duo performed “Stuck Like Glue” with MC Lyte, and continued with “Tonight” and “All I Want to Do.” Griffin returned with the biggest crowd favorites, “Jersey Shore” stars Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino. Griffin dubbed Snooki “Agent Orange” and made Mike agree to stay away from grenades. But really, they were there to introduce one of the standout performers of the night: newcomers Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. Grace and her band started with the opening licks of the “Top Gun” theme song — after all, this was the same base where the classic ’80s flick was filmed. Decked out in a shimmery short dress and commanding a creamy flying V guitar, Grace jumped into “Paris (Ooh La La)” and “Medicine” before being joined by Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart for their classic “Crazy on You.” They closed out the set with a rousing rendition of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Next was Nicki Minaj, straight from the pages of an anime comic book. Rocking a curly pink wig, red and blue graphic dress and matching mint-green leggings and heels, the diva MC tore through her Pink Friday hits “Moment 4 Life,” “Right Thru Me” and “Roman’s Revenge.” But before Nicki was finished she was joined by Perry for a playful performance of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” Following the cover theme, Paramore were back in Kuwait with an epic rendition of the Foo Fighters’ anthem “My Hero.” Keri Hilson kept the energy high with an aggressive performance of “Turning Me On,” following with “Knock You Down” and “Pretty Girl Rock.” She then joined Sugarland to cover Aretha Franklin’s “Think.” Perry closed out the show in true diva form, with an explosive performance of “Firework,” complete with a massive spectacle of, well, fireworks. She dedicated the song to everyone serving in the military around the world. And just at that moment the camera spotted a Marine hoisting a sign that read “Katy, you’re our firework.” “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” airs Sunday, December 5, on VH1 at 9 p.m. ET. B.o.B Plans ‘A Little Bit Of Magic’ For Grammy Nominations Concert

‘This year, all the success, all the doors that have been opened have really taken me by surprise,’ he tells MTV News of his own Grammy chances. By Kelley L. Carter, with reporting by James Lacsina B.o.B at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday Photo: James Lacsina B.o.B is ready to hit the stage. He’s been performing one of the hottest songs all year long, so it’s only appropriate that he and Bruno Mars perform it one more time at Wednesday night’s (December 1) Grammy Nominations Concert at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. Earlier Wednesday, the rapper performed “Don’t Let Me Fall” on his own and, later, his big hit “Nothin’ on You” with Bruno Mars. “It was a really good way to kick it off and be more involved with the overall experience,” he said of the concert. B.o.B said he doesn’t have too many expectations about how the Grammy nominations might shake out, considering that this is his first year being involved. When asked if he might do something a bit different for his performance during the nominations special, the “Magic” MC joked, “Just a little bit of magic.” Bobby Ray has some predictions for his colleagues when it comes to Grammy night: “I think Cee Lo and Bruno Mars could win because of their musicality and what they brought.” But what about the rapper’s own chances? “If Bruno is nominated, I probably might be nominated also. It’s kind of a win-win situation for both of us,” he said of his collaborator. “This year, all the success, all the doors that have been opened have really taken me by surprise.” The nominations special airs Wednesday night on CBS at 10 ET/PT. The 53rd annual Grammys air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 13, and will be broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Stick with MTV News for everything about the Grammys, including nominations and reactions from the artists. What do you think of B.o.B’s chances for the Grammy nominations? Weezer Revisit Pinkerton At Second Of Two Shows In San Francisco

Band performed 1994’s Blue Album at previous night’s show. By Matt Elias Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo performs in San Francisco on Monday Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images Halfway into Weezer ‘s set on Tuesday night, frontman Rivers Cuomo was sprawled out onstage, basking in the overwhelming sense of adoration in the room. It was night two of Weezer’s Memories Tour stop in San Francisco, at the Nob Hill Masonic Center, and the band started with a 10-song set followed by their 1996 sophomore effort Pinkerton in its entirety (night one saw Weezer play its entire Blue album ). As loose and energetic as the previous night, Weezer’s second engagement was a nod to die-hard Weezer fans. The set included some rarities like 1995’s “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly” and “Susanne.” Band members shared vocal duties throughout the set — guitarist Brian Bell took over on “Pork and Beans” and bassist Scott Shriner on “Dope Nose.” And as he did the night before, drummer Pat Wilson donned a guitar during the first part of the set, with drummer Josh Freese taking over percussion duties. The fans also took part in the action. Rivers invited a trio of fans decked out in homemade Weezer Ts onstage for the rest of the audience to see. At another point, Rivers spotted a fan waving a homemade W flag and invited him onstage. They stretched it out for all to see, and Rivers then displayed it on the drum riser. When he wasn’t inviting fans onstage, Rivers Cuomo was running through the audience, high-fiving fans and climbing on theater seats. No one was left untouched — not even the venue staff. During “Hash Pipe,” Cuomo yanked a beanie off a petite female staffer, plopped it on his head for a bit, then stretched it out onto a beefy security guard’s dome. Intermission followed and Weezer’s unofficial fifth member, Karl Koch, helmed a slide show (just like on the first night), showing off gems from Weezer’s early days. The crowd swooned at the sight of one of Weezer’s first fliers from 1992, a photo of the band with Spike Jonze during the Pinkerton recordings, and also shared a collective laugh at a Rolling Stone magazine clipping that declared Pinkerton the second-worst album of 1996 (just behind Bush’s Razorblade Suitcase ). When it was time for the Pinkerton set, the album’s cover art hung in the background, Pat returned to his drum kit and Rivers returned sans glasses (and not looking much different than he did during his Pinkerton days). The band ripped through the album’s 10 songs, garnering even more sing-alongs than the previous night. Those in attendance were definitely a dedicated bunch. The feeling was mutual. On “El Scorcho,” Brian gestured to the crowd during the lyrics “I’m a lot like you,” summing up the sentiment of the night. As the rest of the band left the stage, Rivers closed out the show with his acoustic guitar on “Butterfly” (and Karl took a stab at drumming). As the song concluded, Rivers took one simple bow and exited the stage — capping off a splendid two-night engagement of the Memories Tour. Related Artists Weezer

Man googles self, finds out he’s murder suspect | Technically Incorrect – CNET News

If we want to find out what the world thinks about us, we google. There, we find every reference to our delicate beings. Well, every reference that we can't find on Facebook. Please imagine, then, the mental entertainment that played itself out behind Zachary Garcia's forehead, when he googled himself and happened to notice that he was being accused of murder. No, he was not being accused by some crazy former lover or fellow University of Florida student attempting to enter the Prankdom Hall of Fame. It was the Polk County Sheriff's Office, which reportedly mistakenly released his driver's license photo in connection with a murder. According to WTSP 10, Garcia's first reaction when he saw his picture being displayed as that of someone being charged with murder, was to call his mom in the middle of the night to tell her that he feared being kicked out of school and losing his two jobs “or worse.” This was not because he had actually committed any murder. He is, reportedly, an excellent student and fine citizen. However, he seems to have been confused him with Zachery (with an “e”) Garcia, who was allegedly one of four teens involved in a house burglary that resulted in one of them, 15-year-old Otilio Rubio, dying from gunshot wounds. Dane Cook Talks ‘Very Strange’ Taylor Swift Tattoo

‘The minute it went to commercial, she goes, ‘What the f— was that?’ comedian jokes about Swift’s reaction to ‘Tonight Show’ tribute. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Dane Cook Photo: MTV News Dane Cook shocked Taylor Swift with an original song when both were guests on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” last week. Cook sang a tune about how much he loves Swift and it was a moment made more comical because he performed it shirtless with a portrait of Swift and her name tattooed on his chest. “You’re speaking of the Taylor Swift ‘Tonight Show’ viral sensation, which is burning up the Internet charts. Well, that was years of planning,” Cook joked to MTV News when we met up to talk about his new album, I Did My Best – Greatest Hits. “It’s a real tattoo, so I had to do it over three stages of nine months … either that version of the story [about how it happened or] it took about 15 minutes the night before to write the little ditty. “I have a friend who’s a tattoo artist [and] I came off the tour, slopped that on there and I can’t get it off,” he continued. “I’ve tried rubbing alcohol. I’ve tried abrasive toothpaste, and it freaks me out. I looked in the mirror after my shower, like, ‘Taylor Swift’s face is staring back at me, very strange.’ ” Cook admitted that Swift had a great sense of humor about the whole thing. “You know, she comes across as very sweet but the minute it went to commercial she looked at me and she goes, ‘What the f— was that?’ No, I’m kidding,” he said. “She actually was really super sweet. We did get to talk a little bit and she thought it was really a very, very nice moment and then afterwards we took some pictures. We’re fast friends. We’re Twitter friends now so, you know, once you’re on Twitter with somebody it’s a camaraderie that can never be broken.” So what will the comedian do if he can’t get that tattoo off? “I figure, date really beautiful blondes and change the name — just keep getting that removed,” he joked. Lindsay Lohan Shows Off Some Skin

Here’s Lindsay Lohan continuing her rehab hotness in a nice little sundress the other day. I don’t know what kind of program she’s in, but it seems to be pretty chill, my parents just duck taped me to my bed for a week. Whatever she’s doing, it seems to be working because she’s looking a lot better. Don’t get me wrong, I loved drunk Lindsay, but I like a woman who’s going to remember me in the morning. There’s nothing worse than trying to convince a chick you just spent the night with that you didn’t just break into her house to steal her collection of Beanie Babies .

Chick Wears Bikini to Get Through TSA of the Day

Here is a chick going through airport security in a bikini….kind of an obvious move but I kinda like it….I was joking about getting a bitch to walk through airport security naked cuz everyone is so pussy about showing their pussies when going through the new scanners, which I guess makes sense, since TSA staff or pretty much dumb fucks high school drop out retards who thought it was better pay than the local McDonalds or chicken farm. Seriously. It’s like these mindless retards are responsible for enforcing stupid fucking security measures that are totally unnescessary, making the hot chicks run through scanners, to pull out jerk off material for later in the night cuz that girl on the 8 am flight to O’Hare had a great rack…. I do not travel, that’s for classy folk who don’t have criminal records, but I’ve seen these idiots being interviewed on TV and on Radio about this, and they are total fucking trash who don’t deserve to see people naked….totally unprofessional and as far as I’m concerned not in a position to pump gas, let alone manage airplane safety… What a joke…. Here’s a bonus stepNEWS clip of a fat chick falling….

Rihanna, Chris Brown Tweet About 2009 Assault

‘People won’t stop asking about it!’ Rihanna complains on Twitter. By Jayson Rodriguez Rihanna and Chris Brown in 2008 Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Chris Brown and Rihanna have moved on from their rocky relationship, and the two singers took to Twitter over the weekend to urge their fans and the media to get onboard. The messages started when a fan of Rihanna’s asked the singer to avoid speaking about her relationship with Brown, which ended in February 2009 after Brown assaulted Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy Awards. Rihanna was more than open to responding to the inquiry. “AGREED! People won’t stop asking about it! It’s f—in’ annoying! Nobody wants to relive that, but some ppl can’t respect that!” she wrote . “I get it,” Rihanna continued in her next message . “They wanna raise awareness to young girls! But it ends up just making me look bitter, pitiful, spiteful and angry!” Since Brown and Rihanna’s altercation, which left her battered and bruised and him on probation and sentenced to 180 of community labor, which he’s already completed, the two have been ordered to stay away from each other by a California judge. They’ve each sat down in various interviews to discuss the night in question, with Brown visiting Larry King and MTV News’ Sway Calloway, and Rihanna opening up to Diane Sawyer. Each, however, has moved on. Rihanna is dating baseball player Matt Kemp and Brown has regained his pop culture footing following a heartfelt Michael Jackson tribute during the BET Awards . Brown also sent a message to his and Rihanna’s fans on Twitter asking that “Team Breezy” and the “Rihanna Navy” make nice with each other. “Y’all starting to sound extremely childish! #teambreezy and #rihannanavy It’s pointless,” he wrote. “Love team breezy & thank you rihannanavy for supporting ya girl.” Related Videos Chris Brown And Rihanna: The Aftermath Related Photos Rihanna And Chris Brown: A Photo Timeline Related Artists Chris Brown Rihanna

Ronald Isley, Anita Baker Honored At Soul Train Awards

Rihanna, Eminem, Usher, B.o.B, Alicia Keys among winners at second annual event. By Joel Hanek and Gil Kaufman Anita Baker at the 2010 Soul Train Awards Photo: Moses Robinson/ Getty Images Only at the Soul Train Awards could you have a tribute to R&B icons such as Anita Baker and Ronald Isley alongside a segment in which rap legend Doug E. Fresh attempts to teach CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer how to do the Dougie. It was that kind of night at the 2010 Soul Train Awards, as rookies, veterans and legends came together in Atlanta for the second annual event — which was taped November 10 and aired this past Sunday on BET. The show, hosted once again by Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, featured a night of performances from some of the biggest names in soul and R&B. Host Howard told MTV News that the show is meant to be an extension of the long-running and legendary ’70s TV series that brought soul, disco, R&B and rap stars into viewers’ living rooms. “It reminds me of the advancement black people have made over the years because ‘Soul Train’ really was the beginning of that Black Power movement when we could actually see ourselves — and to have an awards show based upon that ‘Soul Train’ — it’s headed somewhere,” Howard said. “We have a black president now. The country seems to be more tolerant towards the diversity inside of it so it seems like the train is moving well down the tracks.” The awards show marked the 40th anniversary of classic music showcase hosted by Don Cornelius, and celebrated the careers of Baker and Isley, while handing out trophies to such contemporary stars as B.o.B (Song of the Year for “Nothing on You”), Melanie Fiona (Best New Artist), Eminem and Rihanna (Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year for “Love the Way You Lie”), Usher (Album of the Year for Raymond vs. Raymond ) and Alicia Keys (Record of the Year for “Unthinkable [I’m Ready]” and Best Female R&B Soul Artist). Though top winners such as Trey Songz, Usher, Ciara, Eminem and Rihanna were not in the house, Blitzer graciously agreed to accept Slim Shady’s award for him, joking, “Who better to accept this award on behalf of Eminem … I know he’s thrilled.” Weaving through a series of skits involving magic tricks and jovial bickering by the hosts, the performance-heavy program delivered on talent. R. Kelly opened by teasing the crowd with his classic “Bump n’ Grind,” then diving into his new single “When a Woman Loves” — transforming the song from a slow jam into an all-out ’50s rock-and-roll epic. Ne-Yo kept the show moving with a showcase of his singles from this year, including “Champagne Life” and “One in a Million.” The tribute to Baker featured an all-star cast, with artists like Chrisette Michele, Goapele, Lalah Hathaway, Dionne Farris, Kem, Tamia, Faith Evans and El DeBarge covering a medley of the singer’s greatest hits. Baker told the crowd that the biggest honor of the night for her was that real musicians were performing live with an actual band. “It’s amazing because you’ve got children behind you singing ‘Rapture’ — it’s lovely,” she said, adding, “Let’s do it again!” Ronald Isley, co-founder and lead singer of the Isley Brothers, also received a special homage that featured Jeffrey Osborne, Freddy Jackson, DeBarge, Tank, Eric Benet, Bilal and Peabo Bryson. Isley also came out to perform his own medley of hits and was joined on stage by Chant
