Rowling’s Harry Potter saga began as a series of children’s books and evolved into young-adult ones: The series grew up right in step with that first group of readers, even though, of course, people of all ages continue to love them today. The movies based on those books have offered a concurrent, dovetailing kind of pleasure: The joy of watching young actors grow up on-screen, learning as they go and, quite surprisingly, finding new dimensions in their characters each time out. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint — as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley — haven’t become worn out by their roles, as the admittedly older Twilight stars have. Who knows what their post- Harry Potter careers will bring? The body of work they’ve already amassed — up to and including this almost-final installment in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 — can stand by itself. Over the years, the magic in their bones has only grown stronger.

By James Dinh No Doubt (file) Photo: Jason Squires/ Getty Images It’s been nine years since No Doubt released their last studio album, and it’s been a while since we’ve heard news on the follow-up to 2001’s Rock Steady, but bassist Tony Kanal assured fans that the group is steadily working on their new album and conjuring up a big tour. “I swear, we’re having more fun than we’ve ever had writing a record before,” Kanal told Billboard.com of their recording process earlier this week. “I think [because] it’s been a while, but also because we’re older … the fact that we’re still doing it together after 24 years — you know, working on music — I think we really appreciate that.” While the soon-to-be father admitted that they are still in the writing phase of the project, he did assure fans that their comeback will be worth the wait, as they’ll take their new material on the road. “I think it’ll be even bigger, and when I say bigger, I mean more shows and around the world,” he revealed. The husband-wife filmmaking team of DA Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus have been on hand to witness more than a few historic dramas over the years, perhaps none more famous than that of the charismatic Clinton campaign engineers profiled in their Oscar-nominated 1993 documentary The War Room . Scale that intensity and those stakes down to one guy in a kitchen, however, and you wind up with something like their new film Kings of Pastry , about chef Jacquy Pfeiffer’s pursuit of one of France’s most hallowed culinary distinctions: that of M.O.F., or Best Craftsman in France.

Will Forte Leaves ‘Saturday Night Live’

The comedian’s rep confirmed Forte’s exit to MTV News. “After eight great seasons, Will has made the decision to move on from SNL to pursue new opportunities,” his rep said in a statement. “He is eternally grateful to [executive producer] Lorne [Michaels] and all of the incredible people he worked with over the years.” Forte has played a host of characters throughout his “SNL” career and is perhaps best known for his bumbling action star MacGruber, a thinly-veiled send-up of the ’80s action TV character MacGyver who worked ingenious ways to slip out of sticky situations. A movie version of the popular sketch hit theaters in May and Forte told MTV News that he wasn’t sweating any pressure to live up to “SNL” sketch-turned-silver-screen smashes like “The Blues Brothers” or “Wayne’s World.” “The ‘SNL’ track record is about the same as the movies-in-general track record,” Forte said. “There are a lot of crappy movies out there and a lot of great movies. Sure, there has been some ‘SNL’-based movies that have sucked; there have been some great ones.” While Forte built upon the winning formula of MacGruber, he also said he wasn’t concerned with slavishly replicating the minutes-long sketch on the big screen.
