Whitney Houston’s Daughter Bobbi Kristina Rushed To Hospital

Eighteen-year-old daughter of Houston and Bobby Brown was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on Sunday, according to reports. By Rob Markman Whitney Houston and her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage In a most dramatic turn of events it is being reported that Whitney Houston’s 18-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital today, less than 24 hours after her mother was found dead in a Beverly Hills, California, hotel. According to TMZ , Bobbi Kristina, who was Houston’s only child with ex-husband Bobby Brown, was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital on Sunday afternoon (February 12). She was taken out on a stretcher from the Beverly Hilton, the same hotel where her mother reportedly died. Unnamed law enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ that police responded to a call for a medical emergency, but would not confirm that the person transported was Houston’s daughter. In a statement issued to MTV News the Houston family expressed their grief in this trying time. “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly,” the statement read. “We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends.” It was reported on Saturday that Bobbi Kristina got into a shouting match with police officers after she was denied entry into the fourth-floor room where her mother had died. TMZ reported she demanded to see her mother’s body, but police informed her that no one was allowed to see the body. Houston’s cousin, singer Dionne Warwick, was also turned away. Bobbi Kristina’s dad, Bobby Brown, was also distraught over the death of the pop and R&B diva. While performing a Mississippi concert with his band New Edition on Saturday night, Brown was visibly shaken but still managed to address the crowd, telling fans that their support for New Edition over the years was the only thing that allowed him to get through the show. “First of all, I want to tell you that I love you all,” he said. “Second, I would like to say, ‘I love you Whitney.’ The hardest thing for me to do is come on this stage.” MTV News’ Sway and James Montgomery will be live from the Grammys red carpet tonight starting at 5 p.m. ET to get reactions from music’s biggest stars on the death of Whitney Houston. REVIEW: The Vow Barely Gets By With Rachel McAdams (and One Very Handsome Steak)

In The Vow , Rachel McAdams plays Paige, a Chicago sculptor who’s wife to Leo (Channing Tatum), the owner of a recording studio. The two are talking about starting a family, clearly giddily in love, when they get into a car accident that results in Paige taking a slow-motion header through the windshield. She sustains a brain injury that leaves her with amnesia, losing all memory of meeting and having a relationship with Leo. He finds himself having to convince the woman he married of the depth and strength of their connection when to her he might as well be a stranger. While all of the above is true of the film, the second from Michael Sucsy (who also directed the 2009 Drew Barrymore/Jessica Lange Grey Gardens ), it buries the lede, which is that Paige is missing everything that happened in the last few years — not just Leo, but moving to the city from the upscale suburb of Lake Forest in which she grew up, leaving law school to become an artist, breaking off her engagement with smarmy attorney Jeremy (Scott Speedman) and cutting ties with her family after a giant fight, the details of which we don’t learn until late in the film. She’s shocked to find that she gave up straightening her hair, that she lives in a funky loft and wears boho clothing, that she’s become a vegetarian and, if the gasp she gives when told that Barack Obama is president and she voted for him is any indication, that she only relatively recently became a Democrat. Indeed, Paige has forgotten how to be a hipster. Post-trauma, to Leo’s bemusement, she orders blueberry mojitos, wears prim dresses, gets highlights and declares her favorite book to be The Beach House by James Patterson. Leo first encountered Paige after a series of major life changes (we see, in flashback, how they met at the DMV) and had never met her parents, played by Sam Neill and Jessica Lange, before their arrival at the hospital shortly after she comes out of her coma. Stuffily dressed and taut faced, they have a campy suburban gothic air to them, and are delighted to be able to welcome their daughter back into their lives as if they’d never fought in the first place — which they essentially didn’t, since she has no memory of it. The two parties wage cultural warfare over the dazed Paige, one side offering the comforts of the familiar, including her family and posh childhood home, the other the urban life and love she chose instead. These themes of what makes up one’s identity, and whether Paige is still the woman with whom Leo fell in love without the experiences that came to define her, are a lot more solid than the romance aspects of  The Vow . McAdams can turn up the charisma and make (almost) any role grounded and watchable, even multiple ones involving time travel and memory loss. Tatum is like a very handsome steak. Unfortunately, he’s the one saddled with the swoony, Nicholas Sparksesque burdens in the story, from a voiceover about love and fate delivered in an earnest monotone, to spelling out “MOVE IN?” in blueberries when serving Paige breakfast, to accidentally complementing the aesthetic merits of her scrap pile instead of the sculpture in progress she’s working on. He just isn’t expressive enough an actor to carry all of Leo’s pining and heartbreak, as he suffers through Paige’s unintended cruelty as she tries and fails to connect with him and the person she used to be. “I’m so tired of disappointing you,” she tells him after he reacts with exasperated sadness to her inability to remember their past, and it’s an unintended consequence of the casting that she seems reasonable and right in considering moving on, and that one doesn’t feel the need to blubber in response, “But you’re meant to be together !” The Vow,  which is based on the story of real-life couple Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, doesn’t turn out to be as gauzily sentimental as its beginning (or its marketing materials ) suggests; though this probably isn’t intentional, it ends up making the argument that one’s romantic memories don’t tend to translate well when shared, as Leo walks Paige through the things they used to do as a couple, from the restaurant in which they used to eat (named, heh, Cafe Mnemonic) to the lakeside spot where they would skinny dip. But the most loving gesture in the film is its consideration that what may be best for someone’s happiness is letting them go, no matter how painful that may be. The ending is — spoiler alert? — an upbeat one, but it’s one the film drifts into, no last-minute gallop through an airport or desperate clinch in the rain. It’s a more grown-up conclusion than you’d expect, but feels anticlimactic when taken in the context of the story’s wobbles between realism and glossy, larger-than-life love story. Kim Kardashian Marriage Was ‘Real’ For Kris Humphries

‘I would never go through something and do something that wasn’t real or I didn’t believe in,’ Humphries tells ‘Access Hollywood.’ By Christina Garibaldi Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images It’s been just over three months since Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from NBA star Kris Humphries. The much-publicized demise of their 72-day marriage played out in the last season of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York” and last month while co-hosting “Live!” with Kelly Ripa, Kim opened up about her whirlwind romance. “It’s so sad,” she said. “I would never wish anyone to go through a divorce, but then again after what I went through, you don’t really know until you’re in this person’s shoes … When I see other people when I might not understand their situation, now I really just step back because you don’t really know what they’re going through.” Now it’s his turn to speak out. In his first in-depth interview since the NBA lockout, Humphries tells “Access Hollywood” that his love and marriage with Kardashian was genuinely real. “To me it was real,” Humphries explained. “I would never go through something and do something that wasn’t real or I didn’t believe in, so I can really only speak for myself in terms of that.” Humphries, who is now seeking an annulment to erase his brief marriage to the reality star on the grounds of fraud, revealed that his faith, family and, of course, basketball helped him get through his breakup. “I’m in a great place,” Humphries said in the interview, which begins airing Tuesday (February 7). “Above all, my faith in God and just how close my family is and then the fact that luckily we didn’t get locked out all season and we’re playing basketball. Basketball is where you can go and just not think about anything and just let loose. I always tell people basketball is like my therapy. Some people talk to psychologists, I just need to go play basketball; that’s it.” Since the breakup, Kim has remained single, but hopeful in still finding love. “I definitely tried everything I felt like I could … I want babies,” Kardashian told Ripa. “I want forever love.” So is Kris ready to get back into the dating game? “I’m not dating anyone right now. What do they say, my girlfriend is Spalding?” Humphries said, referring to being committed to basketball. Do you think Kris and Kim’s marriage was real? Let us know in the comments. ‘Fringe’ Star Makes ‘Angels’ With Astrid

‘It’s personal, sweet and really sad at the same time,’ actress Jasika Nicole tells MTV News of her upcoming ‘Fringe’ episode. By Josh Wigler Jasika Nicole on “Fringe” Photo: FOX There’s a running gag on ” Fringe ” about good-natured FBI agent Astrid Farnsworth: Even though she spends almost all her screen time assisting and taking care of the delightfully delirious Walter Bishop, the kooky scientist can never quite remember her name. “Aspirin,” he’s called her, or “Asteroid” or any other number of “A” names. Sadly, fans can relate to Walter’s repeated mistake. Sweet and mysterious though she may be, the alluring Astrid is relegated to supporting status so often that it’s far too easy to forget her name. But that all changes with “Making Angels,” the new episode of “Fringe” airing Friday (February 3). Forget Olivia, Walter and Peter — this one is all about Astrid. Actress Jasika Nicole, who plays Astrid on “Fringe,” spoke with MTV News about both versions of her character taking center stage in “Making Angels,” the challenges of merging two versions of the same person for the first time and much more. MTV : We’ve been waiting forever for the Astrid episode of “Fringe.” What took so long? Jasika Nicole : I’ve been waiting so hard and long, just like the fans have! [ Laughs. ] I don’t know why it took so long. It would be one thing if it seemed like Astrid didn’t have a lot of fan support and people aren’t interested, but I feel like fans have been begging to learn and see more of this character. I don’t know for the life of me why it took so long. At the beginning of the season, I called [“Fringe” show-runners Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman] and said, “I want you guys to know that I’m so happy on this show, but I would really, really love to know if there’s an Astrid episode coming up. It would really give me something to look forward to.” They were super vague about it. And I assumed that whenever she did get her episode, it would be a situation where Astrid figures out [the episode’s mystery] at the last minute, or everyone’s on LSD and she has to go out and save the day. That would be an easy way out. But I’ll tell you, I was really surprised with the episode. It’s so beautiful. It’s personal, it’s sweet, and it’s really sad at the same time. I don’t know why it took so long. But I think all the support the episode has been getting is going to make them feel really crappy that they didn’t do this sooner. [ Laughs. ] MTV : You’ve always been vocal about who Astrid is and what she’s about. For the audience, though, we’ve had to piece things together: You get a bit of Astrid here and there, but she’s not at the forefront the way Olivia and Peter are. When you got your episode, did Astrid measure up to your vision of her? How did the episode change your perspective on the character? Nicole : I think [the writers and I] were on the same page. But before with Astrid, we just got the CliffsNotes version of her. She’s kind, thoughtful and a great caretaker. The other Astrid is very smart and she’s a little bit vacant in terms of emotional relationships and isn’t the best communicator. That was kind of it. You didn’t know anything about her family, what it’s like when she got home … it was just overviews of these two characters. But this episode delves into them much more. You see to what extent this Astrid is a caretaker. She does something that’s just really beautiful. She’s such a sweet, caring, sincere woman. It made Astrid seem like a real person. Before, you see her taking care of Walter. She laugh at his jokes and there’s this weird husband-wife, father-daughter thing going on. [ Laughs. ] But now we get to see her in relation to someone who is not Walter. It’s the first time in the four seasons we’ve really seen her interact with another person and putting herself out there so much. The alternate Astrid has been a little one-note because you’ve only seen her at work, very focused on her job. She delivers her information and that’s pretty much it. But the truth is, she has a life and she has a family. Something traumatic happens where she comes from in that universe, and she’s so distraught and incapable of handling what’s going on by herself, that she comes to this universe to seek out our Astrid. That’s definitely a side of her you’ve never seen before. I always wanted to know what she’s like in personal situations instead of professional ones. You get to see that. This episode is really about alt-Astrid. MTV : One of the beauties of “Fringe” is that we get multiple versions of the same character — even though they’re literally the same person, they’re very different in many ways. With the two Astrids coming face to face in this episode, how do those differences and similarities come into play? Nicole : What’s interesting about having an alternate universe is trying to figure out where your paths went differently. What went on here that didn’t go on there? Why aren’t we the exact same person? With the Astrids, it’s a little different because they’re fundamentally different to the core — possibly at a genetic level, if you’re of the theory [that alt-Astrid is on the autism spectrum]. That changes your relationships with your family members, which is something that’s essential to the story of this episode. Not only are the two Astrids different, they’re so different that they have different relationships with the people in their lives. They’re the only constant. Everybody around them is different, but this connection that they have is the only solid thing that they have between them. That’s going to help the alternate Astrid to figure out what’s going on in her life in this crazy, tumultuous time. MTV : “Making Angels” isn’t just the first Astrid-centric episode of “Fringe,” it’s also your first chance to get in on some of the fun your co-stars have been having: acting opposite yourself for pretty much the entire episode. On one hand, that’s got to be pretty cool. On the other, it has to be pretty tricky, right? Nicole : You’re right, it was a double-whammy. It’s like you’re sticking two days into one. You have to know exactly what you’re going to do, you have to know so well how you’re going to play those characters in the beginning of those scenes. It takes a lot of foresight. The emotional part is really tough, but then there’s the technical stuff. You have to stand and make sure your outline is the same every time. There’s a point where [the two Astrids] shake hands, and I could not for the life of me figure out how they were going to make it work. It’s too big of a concept for me to grasp. But what was really cool is that they were able to merge the split screens on the monitors in video village, so they were watching it in real time. I’m doing it with my stand-in, but they’re watching both Jasikas on the screen. At one point, we’d been doing this one scene for like eight hours or something. We were tired. It was a big scene with two Olivias in it, two Astrids, Walter and Peter. There’s all this stuff going on. We ended up not being able to finish the green screen that night. We had to come back and finish the next day. But they only needed to stick me in the scene. There are four or five other characters in the scene, but they’re just filming me in front of the green screen playing off of dialogue that we had recorded the day before. Because we had done it for eight hours, I knew it like the back of my hand. I smiled at imaginary jokes being pulled, I watched imaginary people walking in — it was just so surreal. It’s like you’re playing a pretend game while you’re drunk by yourself, but there are people watching you do it! [ Laughs. ] Nothing about it makes sense, but the end result is phenomenal. The new episode of “Fringe,” “Making Angels,” airs Friday (February 3) at 9 p.m. ET. Are ‘Pants Back’ Stars Like Their Characters?

‘I am like my character in that I am black,’ Jordan Carlos jokes to MTV News before tonight’s premiere. By Jocelyn Vena Sunkrish Bala, Elisabeth Hower and Jordan Carlos Photo: MTV News The characters on MTV’s new scripted series “I Just Want My Pants Back” are young, occasionally romantically challenged and always up for a good time. The show, set in New York, is a nonstop party that follows the lives of several twentysomethings trying to find love and find themselves in the Big Apple. The characters each play a role (sassy, neurotic, lustful) in their circle of friends, the same way that those other “Friends” did back in the 1990s. The show focuses on Jason, Tina and the rest of their Brooklyn-dwelling crew as they struggle with unemployment and general disaffection. But are the actors anything like their characters on the show? MTV News investigates. Jordan Carlos and Elisabeth Hower play the show’s only couple. Their characters, Eric and Stacey, are extremely driven (she goes to law school, he goes to med school) and very much in love, but for Carlos the similarities begin and end with only one trait. “I am a black person,” he joked. “I am like my character in that I am black.” Hower, almost on cue, added, “I am also a girl in real life,” before noting that there’s some part of those people in their real-life personas. “No, I think there’s a little bit of all of us in the characters. We all have to connect to our characters.” Meanwhile, Sunkrish Bala plays Bobby, the gang’s pal and the owner of their local bodega. Always quick with some sassy advice, Bala notes that, well, he’s not quite like Bobby. “I’m nothing like my character,” he said. “But I know a lot of guys like [him]. I have a relationship with guys [like that].” While one half of the cast finds it harder to relate to their small-screen counterparts, Kim Shaw and Peter Vack seem to relate a bit more to their characters on the show. With notes of “Sex and the City” thanks to the characters’ ups and downs in the romance department, Shaw plays the sexy, Samantha-esque Tina, while Vack plays Jason, the male hipster equivalent to Carrie Bradshaw. “We’re probably too much like them!” Shaw laughed. “I wish I was a little quicker with my words like Tina is. She says exactly what she’s thinking all the time. I think [Vack is] not as sexually deviant as Jason is on the show.” “Jason’s not a sexual deviant,” Vack protested. “I’m a romantic like Jason.” “I Just Want My Pants Back” premieres tonight at 11 p.m. ET, right after “Jersey Shore.” Stick with MTV’s Remote Control blog for more coverage of the show.
