A fisherman in Belarus was bitten and killed by a beaver this week. All he was doing was trying to take a photo of it, reports said. The man spotted the beaver while fishing with friends at Lake Shestakov, but as he approached to take a photo, the beaver bit him on the thigh. The animal, which can bite through trees, managed to sever an artery in the process, and sadly, the man’s friends couldn’t stop the blood flow. Beaver attacks are not common, though they do occur, usually with rabid beavers, as recently reported in Russia, Virginia and Upstate new York. We would not recommend engaging one under any circumstances.
Officials at a Riverside County animal shelter say a 10-month old poodle/terrier named Banjo is okay today after a 78-year old man tied the puppy to railroad tracks on April 2. Fortunately, an engineer pulled the emergency brakes in time and saved the animal. Union Pacific Special Agent Sal Pina responded to the scene and referred to it as “one of the worst things I’ve seen.” He untied the dog and detained the man, who said he had no other option because his family didn’t want Banjo anymore. “After an extensive interview, Agent Pina said that he could not pursue an animal-cruelty case because the man appeared to be confused, or senile and didn’t fully understand what he had done,” John Welsh of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services said in a statement.

She gave birth earlier that morning. Not wasting any time! Both she and the youngster are doing well, though we’re not sure how he’s going to feel about this video once he’s an adolescent giraffe. Embarrassing!
Ernesto Rodriguez has chosen an unusual way to show affection for his pitbull, Duchess. The disabled Iraq war veteran posted a photo to Facebook this week of a tattoo on the canine’s belly. It is a crest meant to signify its bloodline and it has drawn the ire of many animal lovers around the country. “I love my dogs,” Rodriguez told WXII12-TV in Winston-Salem, explaining that Duchess was asleep and sedated when inked. “There’s people out there saying that I’m cruel, that I hurt my dogs, that I don’t love my dogs … that I should be in jail. I paid a lot of money for my dogs and I take care of them.” Having been made aware of the incident, the Stokes County Health Department and Animal Control department visited the owner and did not file any charges. “What a waste of tax payers money,” Rodriguez wrote on Facebook in response to that visit. “So I’m still gonna tattoo my dogs whenever I del like it… good try, haters, thanks for all the advertisement.” And it could be worse, really.
