Economist: 1 in 4 Americans is employed to guard the wealth of the rich

Here's a fascinating profile on radical Santa Fe Institute economist Samuel Bowles, an empiricist who says his research doesn't support the Chicago School efficient marketplace hypothesis. Instead, Bowles argues that the wealth inequality created by strict market economics creates inefficiencies because society has to devote so much effort to stopping the poor from expropriating the rich. He calls this “guard labor” and says that one in four Americans is employed to in the sector — labor that could otherwise be used to increase the nation's wealth and progress. Michael Jackson FBI Files Released; Bizarre Details Exposed

The FBI has released more than 300 pages of documents relating to Michael Jackson, and while they do not provide new insight into his June 2009 death, the info contained still raises eyebrows, and is just as bizarre as you’d expect. The formerly classified material includes info regarding his 1993 and 2004 child molestation cases, as well as an extortion case where he was a victim.

Man finds missile launcher in garden

According to mysanantonio.com, Jarrette Schule was cutting down trees on his rural property in Comal County when he noticed the missile launcher in the mud. “I had never seen it before,” Schule, a 34-year-old Web developer, told MySA. “I looked at it, and it kind of looked like a missile launcher.” Sure enough, when Schule looked a little closer, the words “Guided Missile and Launcher, Surface Attack” could be seen on the outside of the green metal tube.
