Stop The Violence: 13 People Shot Outside Of L.A. Rapper Nipsey Hussle’s Phoenix Concert

*Sigh* An altercation outside a nightclub in suburban Phoenix erupted in a shooting, leaving 13 people wounded including two in serious condition, police said Saturday. Police are looking for two young men as possible suspects, who fled after the gunfire around midnight Friday in the parking of The Clubhouse Music Venue. Tempe Sgt. Steve Carbajal confirmed to msnbc.com that at least two of the injured were taken to local hospitals and were in serious condition, while the others were treated for wounds that appeared less severe. In an emailed statement Carbajal said the incident occurred at 11:30 p.m. local time (2:30 a.m. ET). The story goes on to say… Police are hunting the pair, described as black men wearing dark clothing, who fled on foot from the club on East Broadway Road, located about 7 miles east of downtown Phoenix. Carbajal described the shooting as the result of “some sort of altercation” at the club, where a rap music concert was going on. He didn’t have immediate details on the altercation, if both of the men are suspected of firing weapons, and on the type of guns used. He said some of the injured drove themselves to the various hospitals in the area so police aren’t sure if there were other victims besides the 13. John Carter Producer: Pixar Backlash to Blame for Cars 2 Oscar Snub?

Last summer’s Cars 2 marked a notable footnote in the history of Pixar Animation , just not a good one; despite opening to the studio’s sixth-highest worldwide take to date, the sequel to 2006’s Cars earned middling reviews, prompted critics to deem it a commercial cash-grab, and eventually – maybe most shockingly, given the studio’s track record – became the first Pixar film not to nab an Oscar nod for Best Animated Feature since the category was inaugurated. Could it be, as Pixar producer Lindsey Collins suggests, that Cars 2 was Oscar-snubbed because of anti-Pixar backlash? Speaking with press today in Phoenix, Arizona for John Carter , which she produced for longtime Pixar collaborator Andrew Stanton, Collins assessed why Cars 2 was overlooked in favor of five other animated films ( A Cat in Paris , Chico and Rita , Kung Fu Panda 2 , Puss in Boots , and Rango ). “The fact that [ Cars 2 ] was a sequel — in a way it’s funny, because obviously from a franchise standpoint people love sequels,” Collins explained. “And certainly from a franchise standpoint Cars 2 did insanely well, such that we can’t even count it as a good metric to tell us whether or not to do sequels.” Sequel status aside, Collins surmised a larger reason was working against the John Lasseter-directed pic, which was the first Pixar film to earn an overall “rotten” score on Rotten Tomatoes. “I think it had the fact that Pixar has dominated going against it,” she added. “At a certain point there was going to be somebody who was going to take the fall a little bit. It was going to be like, ‘Eh, we don’t like that one.’” Then again, Cars 2 ’s nomination miss could also be chalked up to the relatively deep field of animated films in the running for Oscar this year – many of which surprised Collins and defied her own expectations of the competition. “I see every single one of these things because my kids drag me to them all, and to me it felt like God, there are some great animated films this year. I actually had one of those, ‘There’s two hours of my life that I’m never going to get back’ [thoughts], and then you walk out like, ‘Actually, that was quite good!’” Among the “great pictures” not spawned from Pixar that Collins had praise for? “I loved Rango ,” she admitted. “There were actually some great pictures this year.” As for the cold critical reception and accusations of crass commercialism Cars 2 received, Collins maintains that Lasseter “truly, truly loves” the sequel — and Pixar, she says, supports the films its stable of directors want to make. “John loves that world, he loves those characters. We got accused of being very commercial with it and it’s kind of funny, it’s so ironic because if you’ve met John Lasseter there’s not a disingenuous bone in that man’s body.” Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Ho Sit Down: Out-Of-Pocket Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer Tries To Talk Isht To The POTUS, He Walks Off On Her Mid-Sentence!

“Lemme get out here before I curse this heffa out.” President Barack Obama and Arizona’s Republican Governor Jan Brewer appeared to get into a verbal argument just moments after Air Force One touched down in Phoenix Wednesday afternoon. According to reporters at the scene, Brewer could be seen pointing her finger at the president during their brief exchange, before Obama walked away. Brewer later told reporters the president had been upset about a passage in her recent book in which she described a meeting between the two at the White House. “He was a little disturbed about my book, ‘Scorpions for Breakfast,’” said Brewer, who was there to welcome Obama to Arizona. Asked which passage of the book he had taken issue with, Brewer suggested Obama felt he had not been portrayed cordially in one of the excerpts. “I said I was sorry he felt that way but I didn’t get my sentence finished,” she said. “Anyway, we’re glad he’s here. I’ll regroup.” Daaaaaamn so “Ice Cold” Barry-O just George Jefferson strolled on this broad while she was in mid-sentence?? That’s gaaaaangsta! LOL! Of course, The White House has released a statement with a lil’ spin on it to clean things up a bit… “The governor handed the President a letter and said she was inviting him to meet with her,” it said. “The President said he’d be glad to meet with her again, but did note that after their last meeting, a cordial discussion in the Oval Office, the governor inaccurately described the meeting in her book.” We recommend Riiiiiiight…*side-eye* Source

‘Workaholics’ ‘Constantly Stimulated’ On First Date

Comedy Central stars share their silly slacker laughs with MTV News. By Rya Backer Cast of “Workaholics” Photo: MTV News There’s no normal way go on a date with four men simultaneously. That goes without saying. So, imagine going out with four guys who make a living rapping about what it’s like to be a wizard (while in equally mystical costumes, natch) and have popularized an observational comedy game called “poop dollar.” This is how I spent one recent afternoon at the Greenwich Village Country Club playing mini-golf with the cast of “Workaholics” for the most-recent edition of First Date. On the show, three men (Anders Holm, Blake Anderson and Adam DeVine, playing Anders Holmvik, Blake Henderson and Adam DeMamp , respectively) spend their days at a middle-management gig at a telemarketing company. During their downtime, they get really wasted and go on incredible, hilarious adventures, sometimes with their friend, Karl Hevacheck (played by … wait for it … Kyle Newacheck), where things get weird — but rest assured, everything just happens to be OK in the end. The way they were discovered almost echoes the optimistic slacker vibe the show lends: “I met Kyle and Blake at community college. Improv class, day one … met ‘Ders at the Second City,” DeVine explained about the origins of their very real-life friendship. “And then we started making Internet comedy videos, and Comedy Central was like, ‘We like how you guys aren’t popular, but you have a voice, have a take,’ and gave us a show.” The franchise has long been centered on new music acts, but since the show’s premiere, a small sect of us at MTV News have taken it upon ourselves to spread its decidedly sophomoric gospel. The “Workaholics” brand of humor extends far beyond their show, as they attempted to out-funny each other’s answers to the Date questions. In regard to what a typical first date for them is like, DeVine bluntly replied, “For me, personally, just hard-core sex from the get-go … smashin’, beatin’-it-up sex.” His co-star Anderson (who recently got into a pretty unfunny fall) retorted with a first-date plan that’s too hot to write here — just know that his statement wrapped with, “I’m constantly stimulated.” And for those two-odd hours we shared on the course, it’s safe to say we all were. Florence And The Machine Will ‘Keep It Pure’ On Upcoming Tour

‘It’s definitely going to be about showcasing the music,’ Florence Welch says of U.S. trek, which kicks off April 14. By James Montgomery Florence and the Machine Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images On Monday (January 23), Florence and the Machine officially announced their spring U.S. tour, a run of shows that kicks off April 14 in Santa Barbara, California, and wraps May 12 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, with a handful of festival dates sprinkled in for good measure. It’s the first proper stateside tour Flo & Co. have launched in support of their Ceremonials album (they played a light schedule of radio dates at the end of the year). But if you think they’ll be matching that record’s sonic scope with an equally gigantic stage show, you’d be wrong. After wowing audiences here with an unending stream of epic, wide-screen TV performances , this time out, they’re going to let the songs stand on their own, as mastermind Florence Welch told MTV News. “In a way, it’s not going to be too big a production; we’ve done a lot of quite extravagant stuff, and that’s been amazing, but for this tour, it’s definitely going to be about showcasing the music,” she said. “The songs are going to be the most important thing. It will be heavily based on the music … no bells and whistles just yet, we’re going to try and keep it quite pure.” So, in a sense, the upcoming trek will hark back to Welch’s early days, in more ways than one. She’s also taking along longtime friend and former collaborator Dev Hynes, currently recording as Blood Orange, as her opening act. “It’s going to be so fun, I can’t wait. I used to be his backing singer in Lightspeed Champion, he took me on tour with him for one date, in Manchester [England]. He was one of the first members of Florence and the Machine, he used to play guitar with me at all my first gigs,” Welch said. “Even though he was doing his own stuff, he used to come and play guitar for me. We’d be in these weird matching outfits, T-shirts and lumberjack trousers, doing Iggy Pop covers and I would play the drums, Green Day covers [too]. We covered the whole of Nimrod. ” Dates for Florence and the Machine’s spring tour:
