Justin Bieber and Charlie Sheen: Cleared!

For the first time in recorded history, Justin Bieber and Charlie Sheen have something in common: each was cleared of recent, allegedly illegal action. First, Canadian officials have determined that Bieber did not assault a fellow laser tag participant during a much-hyped incident in October. “This investigation into the incident is now complete and no charges will be forwarded as the evidence collected [doesn’t] support doing so,” Corporal Turley of the Richmond Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. Justin Bieber and Charlie Sheen can both celebrate. Hopefully, they won’t do so in the same way. In kinda related news, the NYPD has also announced that Sheen won’t be charged with any wrongdoing against the Plaza Hotel in New York City or porn star Capri Anderson. Following a wild night together on October 25, the actor was hospitalized and accused of holding Anderson captive, snorting cocaine and doing many other bad things . Some or all of those allegations could still be true. But there’s not even enough evidence that makes this a legal case worth pursuing.

Video of police pulling protester from wheelchair cause outrage

A video showing a police officer dragging a disabled man across a road after he had been tipped out of his chair during the student protests sparked outrage today when it was posted on YouTube. Jody McIntyre, 21, was pulled across the street to the fury of the watching crowd outside Parliament who can be heard shouting at the police to stop. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that an internal investigation was underway into the wheelchair incident. Mr McIntyre has contacted a lawyer and is considering pressing charges. Mr McIntyre said he was twice dragged out of his chair by police officers during the protest about rises in student tuition fees. On the first occasion he was lifted out of his chair and carried 100 yards 'for his own safety'. Half an hour later, in the video posted on YouTube, the political activist was dragged across the road by a policeman towards the opposite kerb. Mr McIntyre, who is not a student, has been disabled since birth with cerebral palsy and can stand but cannot walk more than 100 yards. His 16-year-old brother later reunited him with his wheelchair. added by: sbacker

Ja Rule To Serve Two Years In Prison On Gun Charges

Rapper reaches plea deal for charges from arrest in July 2007. By Jayson Rodriguez Ja Rule (file) Photo: Mark Mainz/Getty Images NEW YORK — Ja Rule reached a plea deal with prosecutors in a Manhattan courtroom on Monday (December 13) that will see the rapper serve two years in prison. The charges stem from a gun bust in July 2007, when both Ja and Lil Wayne were arrested separately following a concert performance. The Murder Inc. star pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony in the second degree. “Minor setback for a major comeback,” Ja tweeted after reaching the deal. Ja Rule is expected to be sentenced in February, following a court appearance that same month to report his progress to the judge. The case originated just over three years ago, when Ja Rule joined Lil Wayne at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre to perform with the Cash Money superstar, who was headlining his first New York City bill. After the concert, both rappers, in separate instances, were pulled over in their vehicles by the New York Police Department. Both were subsequently charged with illegal possession of a firearm; Lil Wayne was also brought up on drug charges. In Ja Rule’s case, the rapper was one of three men in his car to be charged; all three were arraigned on the same charges. Police said they found a loaded semiautomatic weapon in the rear door of his car. If the Queens native had gone to trial and been found guilty, he could have faced up to seven years behind bars. Now, having reached a plea agreement, he’ll likely serve 16 months in prison, followed by a year and a half of post-prison supervision. Last year, Lil Wayne reached a plea deal in his case, and in March of this year, he turned himself in to begin his one-year sentence. Just last month, the New Orleans MC completed his sentence and is currently on probation for an unrelated incident in Arizona. Related Artists Ja Rule

Ronnie, Sammi, Vinny Look Back On ‘When I Was 17’

‘Jersey Shore’ castmembers remember first-time smushing and dodging the cops on latest episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Vinny Guadagnino Photo: MTV The residents of “Jersey Shore” have become pop-culture sensations with their club antics and beach-house brawls. On the latest episode of “When I Was 17,” three of the cast members revealed they’ve always had penchant for walking on the wild side. Ronnie broke down the rowdy circumstances surrounding the first time he had sex, which happened with a stranger in the back seat of a Camry. “It just happened randomly,” he said. “[I was] hanging out on the corner with my friend and some girl walks up to him and she’s like, ‘Your friend’s hot. I wanna hook up.’ We went to go find a nice quiet spot … literally down the block.” Ron Ron’s friends even watched his very first smush from a car parked behind him and his lady. The beefy Bronx native also explained his back-seat lovin’ technique. “I just pretty much did the head tuck. You tuck your head in between her head and her shoulders and you just like 1, 2, 3, 4. Like three pumps … and you’re done,” he said. “It’s awesome.” Ron’s on-and-off girlfriend Sammi also got into some outdoor shenanigans when she was a teen, choosing the wrong night to swipe her sister’s favorite jeans to attend a party that ended up being raided by the police. When she went to make a break for it by hopping a fence, the jeans didn’t survive the getaway attempt. “I go to jump over the fence, and I hear [a ripping noise],” she said. “Literally, my sister’s pants split.” But maybe getting busted by the cops would have been less stressful, as her sister chewed her out for destroying her denim. “She was screaming at me,” Sammi said. “We were screaming at each other. Not a good time.” While Ronnie and Sammi were having wild times outdoors, Vinny was bringing the animal kingdom indoors. The Staten Island native copped to keeping an ever-expanding menagerie as a teen, which included snakes, cats, ferrets and more. Vinny was especially attached to an underwater friend who starred in some of the teen’s home videos. “When I was 17, I had a shark, a real-deal shark in a 55-gallon saltwater tank,” he revealed. “I was so corny. I would get my webcam, and I used to put the webcam into the tank. I used to play ‘Jaws’ and feed the shark goldfish, live goldfish, while I was playing ‘Jaws.’ … It was pretty cool, nonetheless, not gonna lie.” “When I Was 17” airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. on MTV Related Videos When I Was 17 (Season 2) | Ep. 7 | Vinny, Sammi, Ronnie Related Photos When I Was 17 (Season 2) | Ep. 7 | Vinny, Sammi, Ronnie

3 New Orleans Police Convicted In Post-Katrina Killing, Burning Of Body

NEW ORLEANS — A former New Orleans police officer was convicted Thursday of fatally shooting a man in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath and another officer was convicted of burning the man's body in a case that exposed one of the ugliest chapters in the police department's troubled history. A federal jury also convicted a third officer of writing a false report on the deadly shooting of 31-year-old Henry Glover, but two others were acquitted of charges stemming from the alleged cover-up. The jury of five men and seven women convicted former officer David Warren of manslaughter in the shooting death of 31-year-old Henry Glover outside a strip mall on Sept. 2, 2005. Prosecutors said Warren shot an unarmed man in the back. Officer Gregory McRae was convicted of burning Glover's body in a car. Lt. Dwayne Scheuermann was acquitted of that charge. Both were cleared of charges they beat the men who had brought the dying Glover to a makeshift police compound in search of help. Lt. Travis McCabe was convicted of writing a false report on the shooting and lying to the FBI and a grand jury. Lt. Robert Italiano was cleared of charges he submitted the false report and lied to the FBI. “This was a case that needed to be aired,” U.S. District Judge Lance Africk said after the verdicts were read aloud. Some of the officers hugged each other before they left the courtroom, while their relatives tried to console each other. Glover's relatives sobbed as they embraced each other. Rebecca Glover, Henry's aunt, said the verdict doesn't close the case for her. “This has been a long, anguishing time,” she said. “All of them should have been found guilty. They were all in on it.” Warren, who has been in custody since his indictment earlier this year, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Prosecutors asked Africk to jail McRae and McCabe while they await sentencing. The judge set a hearing Friday on that request. Warren's attorney, Julian Murray, said he planned to appeal. “I don't think people understand the split-second decisions police officers sometime have to make,” he said. A total of 20 current or former New Orleans police officers have been charged this year in a series of Justice Department civil rights investigations. The probe of Glover's death was the first of those cases to be tried. This isn't the first time federal authorities have tried to clean up the city's police department. The Justice Department launched a broad review of the force in the 1990s, when it was reeling from a string of lurid corruption cases. An officer, Antoinette Frank, was convicted of killing her patrol partner in a 1995 robbery. Another officer, Len Davis, was convicted of arranging the 1994 murder of Kim Groves, a woman who had filed a brutality complaint against him. All five of the officers charged in the Glover case testified during the trial, describing the grueling, dangerous conditions they endured after the Aug. 29, 2005 storm, when thousands of desperate people were trapped in the flooded city. Looting was rampant and bodies rotted on the streets for days because there was nowhere to take them, officers recalled. With lives on the line, the officers said they had no time to write reports or investigate anything but the most serious of crimes. U.S. Attorney Jim Letten said the jury rejected the notion that stress from Katrina was a defense for the officers' actions. “Tonight's verdict is a critical phase in the recovery and healing of this city, of the people of this region,” Letten said. The jury had to weigh the defendants' testimony against the words of several officers who admitted they initially lied to the FBI or a grand jury – or both – before cooperating with the government. Warren, 47, said he was guarding a police substation at the mall and armed with his own assault rifle when Glover and a friend, Bernard Calloway, pulled up in what appeared to be a stolen truck. Warren claimed Glover and Calloway ran toward a gate that would have given them access to the building and ignored his commands to stop. He said he thought he saw a gun in Glover's hand before he fired one shot at him from a second-floor balcony. But Warren's partner that day, Officer Linda Howard, testified Glover and Calloway weren't armed and didn't pose a threat. Calloway said he saw Glover leaning against the truck and lighting a cigarette, with his back facing the strip mall, just before he was shot. It wasn't the only time Warren discharged his weapon that day. Earlier in the morning, Warren had fired a warning shot at a man on a bicycle. Warren said he felt threatened by the man because he kept circling and looking up at him. After Warren shot Glover, a passing motorist, William Tanner, stopped and drove the wounded man, Calloway and Glover's brother, Edward King, to a school that members of the police department's SWAT team using in the storm's aftermath. Tanner and Calloway testified they were ordered out of the car at gunpoint, handcuffed and beaten by officers who ignored their pleas to help Glover. McRae, 49, admitted he drove Tanner's Chevrolet Malibu from the school to a nearby Mississippi River levee and set it on fire with Glover's body still in the back seat. McRae said it was his idea to burn the car and did it because he was weary of seeing rotting corpses after the storm. Another officer testified he saw McRae laughing after he set the fire. “We admitted he burned the car, because that's what he did,” his attorney, Frank DeSalvo, said after the verdict. “What he denied was that he intended to violate anybody's civil rights. Scheuermann, 48, said he was stunned when he saw McRae toss a flare into the front seat of the car and then shoot out the rear window to stoke the fire. “Thank goodness that we had 12 jurors with the courage to vote their conscience in a climate like this,” said Scheuermann's lawyer, Jeffrey Kearney. Steven Lemoine, Italiano's attorney, said his client was a “terrific” police officer who served the city with distinction for nearly four decades. “I think the jury saw him for who he is,” he said. McCabe's lawyers declined to comment. added by: TimALoftis

Special Report: STD fears sparked case against WikiLeaks boss | Reuters

The two Swedish women who accuse WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange of sexual misconduct were at first not seeking to bring charges against him. They just wanted to track him down and persuade him to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases, according to several people in contact with his entourage at the time. The women went to the police together after they failed to persuade Assange to go to a doctor after separate sexual encounters with him in August, according to these people, who include former close associates of Assange who have since fallen out with him. The women had trouble finding Assange because he had turned off his cellphone out of concern his enemies might trace him, these sources said. Assange, who was arrested and held in custody by a British court Tuesday, has both admirers and detractors. His WikiLeaks group publishes secret documents from governments and companies, most recently making public a vast trove of U.S. State Department cables between Washington and embassies abroad that have cast a revealing and sometimes embarrassing eye on the inner workings of U.S. diplomacy. Assange's elusiveness may have worked against him in the Swedish investigation, which might well have gone nowhere had he taken the women's calls and not left Sweden when police started looking into the allegations. The Swedish investigation has undergone head-spinning twists and turns. After initially issuing a warrant for Assange's arrest on rape and molestation charges in mid-August, a Swedish prosecutor dropped the rape charge the next day. After this U-turn, it appeared likely that the whole investigation of the 39-year-old Australian computer hacker would be abandoned. Assange's accusers then hired a lawyer who declared he would press prosecutors not only to keep the investigation going but to reinstate rape charges. The case was soon transferred to one of Sweden's three Directors of Public Prosecutions, Marianne Ny, who indeed decided to reinstate the rape investigation and continue the molestation probe. She ordered that Assange should be subject to official interrogation about the allegations. After Assange left the country, Swedish authorities issued a European arrest warrant under which Assange could be detained and returned to Sweden. A spokeswoman for Swedish prosecutors affirmed, however, that at the moment Assange is not formally charged in Sweden with any criminal offense, but is only wanted for questioning. SWEDISH ENCOUNTERS The most serious accusation Swedish prosecutors made against him in a statement on their website is that he committed “rape, less serious crime” — the least serious of three levels of rape charges that are on the statute books in Sweden. Conviction carries a maximum four year jail sentence and a minimum of less than two years, depending upon the circumstances. As described by several people who were in contact with Assange and his inner circle at the time the allegations against him surfaced, both of his accusers are young Swedish women who came into contact with him during a visit to Sweden on behalf of WikiLeaks. One of the women, identified in the British court hearing on Sweden's extradition request as Miss A, was listed on publicity for Assange's Swedish visit as a spokesperson for a group hosting the WikiLeaks leader. People who were in contact with both Assange and other members of his entourage at the time say that the woman at some point invited him to stay at her residence. Assange's financial resources are opaque, but by most accounts he maintains an austere lifestyle, supporting himself on the donations of wealthy and not-so-rich supporters and overnighting in a succession of friends' spare rooms. According to the accounts of Assange's associates, his overnight stays at his erstwhile spokeswoman's residence soon evolved into a sexual relationship between the two. During one of their encounters, the woman later said, a condom Assange was wearing broke or split. Johnny Depp On A ’21 Jump Street’ Cameo: ‘I’m In!’

‘I’ve said I’m into it, but no one’s actually approached me,’ Depp tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Johnny Depp Photo: MTV News Here’s what we know: Jonah Hill has penned a cameo for Johnny Depp in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of “21 Jump Street.” Depp, who starred as Officer Tom Hanson in the ’80s TV series on which Hill’s flick is based, is open to the idea of popping up in the movie , telling MTV News last year, “If we find the right thing to do, it could be very funny.” Here’s what we don’t know: Why haven’t Hill and Depp been in contact about the possibility? Because as we learned while Depp was promoting “The Tourist” in Paris last week, he hasn’t heard a peep about “21 Jump Street.” “I’ve said I’m into it, but no one’s actually approached me,” he told us. As recently as last month, Hill said he’s still hoping Depp will sign up for a part — “Just do it, dude. Don’t be an a–hole,” he joked — but as of now, Depp remains in the dark. “Call him. I’m in. I’m in,” Depp said. “I think it’d be pretty easy.” There’s no word if Depp would reprise his role as Hanson or step into a new part, but Hill has told us in the past the film won’t be a spoof of the original show but a “a hard-core, R-rated movie” that focuses on the fish-out-of-water scenario of cops returning to high school to pose as students in the name of undercover investigative work. “What happens is, they get caught up in the high school-ness as opposed to the police work,” he said last year. “And whenever they get too caught up in the high school drama, police work comes in. And whenever they get too caught up in the police work, high school drama comes in.” Check out everything we’ve got on “21 Jump Street.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
