Being Flynn Trailer: Robert De Niro Cordially Invites You to Suck City

Poet/playwright Nick Flynn’s memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City is right for a movie adaptation: Its two main characters, Flynn and his father, are deep, articulate characters with a lot of angst to go around. In the first trailer for Focus’s adaptation Being Flynn , the younger Flynn (Paul Dano) analyzes the value of reuniting with his estranged father (Robert De Niro). Clip after the jump.

Naked Push-Ups, Time Warps and 7 Other Revelations About Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

There’s a reason you don’t know much about Prometheus , the Ridley Scott sci-fi project that was originally conceived as a prequel to Alien : the director doesn’t want you assuming anything about the movie before sitting down in theaters next June. Even so, Fox began promoting the 2012 blockbuster at yesterday’s Comic-Con with a press conference and panel featuring Scott, screenwriter Damon Lindelof and stars Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace. (Both Scott and Rapace appeared via satellite) So, just how do you promote a movie without giving away even the most minor plot details? Very, very carefully. Watch the International Trailer for The Help: Heart of Stone

You’ll note that the new trailer for The Help calls Kathryn Stockett’s source material a “sensational bestseller.” That may be, but not much else is screaming “sensation” here: Viola Davis’s one-note dignity, Bryce Dallas Howard’s adversarial prissiness, and Emma Stone’s smiley do-gooder shtick aren’t providing much in the way of originiality. But maybe I’m just cynical; check out the new international trailer and let’s hash this out.

VIDEO: Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis Reunite to Talk 20 Years of Thelma and Louise

This is one where it’s probably just to do a quick intro and get out of the way: To commemorate the 20th anniversary of their post-feminist partners-in-crime road trip Thelma and Louise , co-stars Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis dropped by Toronto’s shimmering Bell Lightbox for a special screening and discussion with Toronto International Film Festival honcho Noah Cowan. The fest’s YouTube page put just about 100 seconds of the Oscar winners’ chat online; here’s hoping for there is more where that came from. Check it out:

Is Joel Edgerton Bourne to Replace Matt Damon? [UPDATE: Nope]

Sinister news in the rumor yard, dear teens: Since Matt Damon ditched the series, Aussie actor Joel Edgerton (of Animal Kingdom ) may be cast as an agent named Martin who was part of a Treadstone-like program in the upcoming Bourne Legacy . Director Tony Gilroy reportedly wants Edgerton for the role, but the studio is concerned about his fame level and potential to star in the concurrently filmed Snow White movie (now that Hugh Jackman has dropped out). I’m personally ready for a female Bourne. Is it too late to suggest Marion Cotillard? In a flak jacket? And sensible trousers? UPDATE : Our pal Jeremy Renner got the part! [ Deadline ]

Trailer: Ridley Scott Cobbles Together the World’s Home Videos For Life in a Day

Last summer, Ridley Scott and Last King of Scotland director Kevin McDonald teamed up with YouTube for a “historic global experiment” that would work like this: You send them some video of your activities on July 24, 2010 (a Saturday) and they would edit the best footage into a documentary film about the world’s events that day, credit you as a co-director and premiere it at the Sundance Film Festival under the title Life in a Day . Finally, the trailer has arrived. Let’s take a look!

‘Prometheus’ Has ‘Definite Connection’ To ‘Alien,’ Michael Fassbender Says

‘It’s definitely in keeping with the old ones,’ movie’s star says about confusion over the Ridley Scott film. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michael Fassbender Photo: MTV News Ever since a Deadline New York report last month, there has been a lot of confusion about Ridley Scott’s newest “Alien” film , which marks the director’s return to the franchise more than 30 years after he brought the first “Alien” movie to the big screen. After word of the project first broke in the summer of 2009, the new report suggested the film was in fact not an “Alien” prequel but rather a film born of “Alien DNA” that is “unique, large and provocative.” Yet at the same time, contrary to this new spin, we were hearing that the film — titled “Prometheus” — was in fact a prequel to the franchise. Now, this all might be a matter of semantics (not to mention movie marketing), but there’s no doubt that confusion has surrounded the exact nature of the production. So when we had the chance to speak with one of the stars of the new film, Michael Fassbender, while he was promoting “Jane Eyre,” we asked him to shed some light on these conflicting judgments. And as he told us, “Prometheus” is most definitely an “Alien” movie. “Absolutely,” he said. “There’s a definite connecting vein. You realize you’re part of something else. But it’s definitely in keeping with the old ones.” What’s more, Fassbender said the new film is more closely related to the slow-burning “Alien,” which Scott directed, than James Cameron’s more action-oriented follow-up, “Aliens.” “It is more sort of the original one,” Fassbender explained. “There’s things happening and building, and the intelligence of the first two-thirds of the film gets you ready for the action … it’s creeping, it’s sinister, things are happening and building, all the different intrigues and politics going on between the different relationships onboard.” That’s not to say Damon Lindelof, who worked on the script with Scott, was blowing smoke when he said things to Deadline like, “In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley’s vision was for this movie.” Fassbender told us that while “Prometheus” fits squarely within “Alien” mythology, the film delivers “a whole new revelation.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
