Gabourey Sidibe Hosts Saturday Night Live: Precious

The most satisfying part of last year’s endlessly endless Oscar season? Watching Precious star Gabourey Sidibe turn into “Gabby,” the bubbly and energetic girl that killed on talk shows and made everyone — but Howard Stern — fall in love. So it should be no surprise that her appearance on Saturday Night Live followed suit. Sidibe charmed, delighted and elevated even the lamest skits to laugh-worthy heights — see: the should-have-been-bad-but-was-really-funny Mrs. Johnson sketch — and, unlike last week’s host Ryan Phillippe, she seemed genuinely happy to be there. As a result, this turned out to be one of the best episodes of the season. Check out the Mrs. Johnson skit and more highlights — including a bit from Will Forte that basically reinvents awesomeness — after the jump.

Gabourey Sidibe’s SNL Promos: Love Letters in the Samberg

New promos have been released for Gabourey Sidibe’s hosting gig on Saturday Night Live this week, and they accomplish a number of things: 1) They stave off Howard Stern’s pesky doubts about her future . 2) They prove this show could be fun — unlike, say, last week’s episode , and 3) They pair Sidibe with Andy Samberg and reference Precious in a fun way, even if they neglect to mention the Kabletown title Fresh-Ass: Based on the Novel Tush by Assfire.

What’s On: Don’t Fear the Rerun

Saturday Night Live is once again attempting what it does best: looking back on old episodes of itself. Can’t wait to see whether Molly Shannon is exactly as I remembered her, or if Chris Kattan is… you know, still doing his Chris Kattan thing.

Tina Fey Introduces The Sarah Palin Network

Barack Obama wasn’t a big fan of Sarah Palin’s uninformed criticism of his nuclear arms treaty with Russia this week. But at least the President, along with all rational human beings, can take solace in Palin’s existence for one reason only: it’s enabled Tina Fey to deliver the best satire television has seen in years. The actress was at it again last night, impersonating the former Alaskan Governor (and current professional, paid speaker of BS) on Saturday Night Live . Fey introduced viewers to The Sarah Palin Network, which is comprised of the following programs: Are You Smarter Than a Half-term Governor? Tea Party Wheel of Fortune (Example of a puzzle: Obama is a Terrist) Hey, Journalist, I Gotcha! (Where “I re-edit my interviews with journalists to make it look like they were the ones that were woefully unprepared.”) Man in a Helicopter with a Sniper Rifle vs. Wild It takes a lot to upstage Justin Bieber on the show , but Fey did it with this great skit. Tracy Morgan’s Feud with Stedman, and 6 Other Factoids About the 30 Rock Star

For today’s “Funny People”-themed episode of Oprah , the media empress wrangled three NBC comedians into her studio to make her audience laugh. Tina Fey and Steve Carell entertained the studio by talking about licking stripper poles and humping stages on the set of Date Night (which Oprah endorsed as “laugh-out-loud funny!”). Then the next comedian, Tracy Morgan, took the stage. Only instead of just sharing some knee slappers, the 30 Rock star got gritty when Oprah revealed a school picture of Morgan at the age of six. “Awwwww,” the studio audience cooed. “Yeah,” responded Morgan, “that’s the year my dad left me!” And that was only first bit of knowledge dropped on audience members — the rest, including the subject that made Morgan tear up instantly, after the jump.
