Zach Galifianakis Scores With Second Appearance On ‘Saturday Night Live’

The idiosyncratic comic sings ‘Annie,’ shaves head, and lampoons ‘The Hangover’ on long running sketch comedy show. By Shawn Adler Zach Galifianakis on “Saturday Night Live” Photo: NBC After a well-received performance from host Miley Cyrus last week that contained funny, if fairly straightforward and typical sketches, Saturday Night Live wasted no time in racing back to its anti-comedy roots, thanks to an appearance last night (March 12) from the improvisational and idiosyncratic Zach Galifianakis, who was hosting the program for the second time. Galifianakis set the episode’s tone early, delivering a monologue chock full of non-sequiturs (“In April, I’ll be babysitting my sister’s kids,” he said. “Via Skype.”), before plunging with gusto into a lip-synched performance of the song “Tomorrow” from “Annie.” Adorned in the character’s iconic short red dress, Galifianakis pranced and skipped across the stage while pretending to sing at the top of his lungs, simultaneously pulling back cue cards to goad the audience in a bizarre cross between Andy Kaufman’s “Mighty Mouse” and Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” “Clap if you endorse medical marijuana,” one cue card read. “I smoke so much pot sometimes I forget to smoke it,” read another. “Dukakis 2012,” read the last. From there, Galifianakis appeared as an audience member vocally disappointed that he was at a taping of “The Talk” rather than his preferred “The View,” and an airhorn blowing comic in a pre-taped bit titled “The Original Kings of Catchphrase Comedy Tour.” But while he also took turns alternately playing the Captain of the Titanic and a Canadian talk show host with a penchant for long vowels, the show’s highlight might have been when Galifianakis appeared on the long running skit “Scared Straight” alongside Kenan Thompson. Wheeled in on a gurney and dressed to look like Hannibal Lector, Galifianakis and Thompson played words like musical notes, turning names and titles like Helena Bonham Carter, Colin Firth and “Home Alone” into borderline filthy and scatological puns. “And there won’t be a baby and a papoose, it’ll be a baby’s arm in your caboose,” Galifianakis punned, referencing his star turn in “The Hangover.” Galifianakis also appeared on the digital short, which revolved around the comic interviewing children to be his new personal assistant. The musical guest was Jessie J, who brought along B.o.B to perform “Price Tag” during the show’s musical interlude. What did you think of Galifianakis’s performance on “Saturday Night Live?” Which skit was the funniest? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Kristen Wiig on Paul, Her Future at SNL and How Her Mom Doesn’t Like Gilly

Kristen Wiig realizes that not everyone is going to universally love every single character that she creates on Saturday Night Live . It’s not that she spends a lot of time (or any time, for that matter) thinking about what the overall consensus will be, but it’s kind of hard to ignore when her own mother calls to voice disapproval over a new character.

Justin Timberlake And Jessica Biel: A Look Back At Their Relationship

Couple has been plagued by breakup rumors throughout their four years of dating. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel in 2010 Photo: Marcel Thomas/ FilmMagic Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have officially broken up after four years of dating (and almost as many years of breakup rumors). Although they were spotted together at the Vanity Fair Oscar party last month, the two have decided to call it quits. (See photos of Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel throughout their relationship.) Their story began in January 2007 when they were first spotted hanging out together. The duo went public at that year’s Sundance Film Festival, and from there gossip columnists and fans wanted to know all they could learn about the couple. When they weren’t going on dates and being the hottest couple in the room, they also took up causes together. In October 2008, Timberlake and Biel appeared at an Obama rally in Las Vegas. “Me and Jess, we’re here as Americans,” Timberlake said at the rally. “We’re here as humans, because this is something we had to do.” That same year, Timberlake jokingly shut down rumors that he and Biel were expecting a baby or getting married. “Am I engaged? In what?” Timberlake asked Jay Leno during an appearance on “The Tonight Show.” “I’m engaged in a conversation with you.” He then added, “I’m not pregnant.” In 2009, Biel sat down with MTV News and laughed about her beau’s comedic side. In fact, both Timberlake and Biel appeared on an episode of “Saturday Night Live” together in May of that year. “He was incredible,” she said of Timberlake’s skills in the episode. “He just killed it.” As their relationship seemed to push along, the couple never officially addressed rumors of a split. In fact, Biel revealed to Glamour that she and Timberlake’s thriving careers kept their relationship balanced. “I guess I would say my thing is just as wonderful,” Jessica said of maintaining her career alongside JT’s. “And that’s the only way — when you each have your own world and it’s just as great.” In a subsequent interview in Vogue, Biel seemed defensive about her relationship with the star and the fact that they always had to fight breakup rumors. “I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t feel the need to clear anything up,” she said. “It’s the most precious thing that I have in my life, and I care about it so much that I don’t care about what anyone says or thinks. I have just not addressed it in any real way, and I’m not going to. It’s mine. And I really like that about it.” The two remained low-key and seemingly fine, especially during their last public appearance together in February, until it was confirmed that they had gone their separate ways. Pete Wentz-Ashlee Simpson Custody Fight Heats Up

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson shocked the masses when they split. Taking things a step further, the once-amicable divorce process is turning ugly. Pete does NOT want his soon-to-be-ex to have primary custody of son Bronx. He’s now taking her to court as a result. Wentz just filed legal papers in response to Ashlee’s divorce petition … asking the judge for JOINT custody. Ashlee had checked the box that indicated she wanted primary physical custody of Bronx Mowgli, 2, who was born shortly after the couple got married . Wentz also wants each party to pay their own legal fees, even though Ashlee had asked the court to make Pete foot the bill for both parties. Ashlee didn’t specify the official break-up date, but Pete says the two called it quits February 9, right after Pete’s wife-less Super Bowl Trip. Pete’s constant touring is believed to be the reason for the breakup.

Miley Cyrus: Flirting with Jared Followill?

On the most recent edition of Saturday Night Live , Miley Cyrus played the roles of Fergie, Lindsay Lohan and Justin Bieber . But insiders tell Hollywood Life there’s another new role Miley has been perfecting: flirt. The singer has reportedly been sending text messages to Kings of Leon bassist Jared Followill ever since the Europe Music Awards in November. “Miley wants to keep Jared interested,” a source says . “She often sends him coy text messages. So far, he is a big fan of what she has been sending.” This mole claims Followill, who hails from Cyrus’ hometown of Nashville, is 24 years old and was connected to Julianne Hough in 2009, thinks Miley is “very pretty.” Might we need to prepare ourselves for… Cyrowill ? We’ll keep readers apprised.

SNL Scorecard: Miley Cyrus’ Show Was Not ‘Pretty Cool’

Anytime Saturday Night Live brings on a “young, hip” entertainer, they have a history of dumbing down their material for the mass audience — which is exactly what happened last night with host Miley Cyrus. It’s obvious that there’s a concerted effort to appeal to the 16-year-old out there who has never watched SNL before, but was watching last night because Cyrus was hosting — a Cyrus, I should add, who came off a bit smug at times (her monologue is a good example) and seemed to never really win over the studio audience.
