Breaking Bad Finale Ratings Rise

Apparently viewers do like soul-crushingly bleak darkness on their television. The season finale of Breaking Bad was watched by 1.6 million viewers, up 17 percent from last year’s season finale. Overall, Breaking Bad was up 22 percent for the season in the 18-49 demographic. No wonder AMC renewed it. No word yet on whether the network will pay for fans’ therapy bills. [ THR /The Live Feed]

Movieline Forecasts Glee’s Second-Season Character Arcs

To paraphrase The Treasure of the Sierra Madre : Cliffhangers? Glee don’t need no stinkin’ cliffhangers! The season finale of America’s current obsession felt like a series finale with the way it neatly wrapped up all the plot strands that had accumulated throughout the season: New Directions was canceled, but then saved; Rachel and Finn got back together; Quinn had her baby and gave it away; Other Asian had a line of dialogue. Where can the show go from here?! Movieline breaks out the crystal ball and predicts what lies ahead for the denizens of William McKinley High School.

Glee’s Ratings Reach a New Direction

Though ABC’ s broadcast of the third NBA Finals game scored the night’s highest ratings, Glee ‘s season finale drew 10.9 million viewers, making it the highest-rated entertainment program of the evening. We all knew Vocal Adrenaline was going to trounce New Directions at regionals, right? It’s season one! Where would this series go if they won everything too early? At any rate, it’s already time for a spinoff series starring Jamie Lynn Spears called Drama where she vies to play Madam Ranevsky in the winter performance of The Cherry Orchard . [ THR ]

Gleebasing: Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Skies Are Schue

After overdosing on sentimentality last night, I’ve decided to check into a Glee habilitation clinic for the summer. The offshoot of the Promises program provides a safe environment devoid of primary colors, where Schoenberg’s atonal compositions ring out across the campus all day and night, and all inspiring messages about the value of our differences have to be checked at the door (along with any shoestrings or Hall & Oates albums). It will be hard, but I was driven to this by last night’s season finale schmaltz binge, “Journey.” Let’s relive the highs and shiver through the lows, and for the last time this season, there will be a pop quiz.

John Stamos: Coming to Glee!

On last night’s season finale of Glee , Will declared his love for Emma. But the curly-haired teacher will have competition for this guidance counselor’s affections in the fall, as multiple sources confirm that John Stamos will come aboard the show in a recurring role. The former Full House star will portray Emma’s dentist and love interest. Stamos may forever be Uncle Jesse to viewers of that sitcom, but he possesses an extensive singing background, having starred in Broadway musicals such as Bye, Bye Birdie and Cabaret . Stamos will be the latest big name to guest star on Glee . In just one season on the air, the creative comedy attracted such stars as Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Groban, Olivia Newton-John and Kristin Chenoweth. It also paid tribute to Madonna and Lady GaGa via multiple renditions of their singles. It’s a really good show. You should watch it.

William Hung picture American Idol

Former #39;American Idol#39; contestant William Hung arrives for the 9th season finale of #39;American Idol#39; in Los Angeles May 26, 2010. Every year, “American Idol” begins with an array of auditions, and not all of the hopefuls are memorable because of their talent. Jane Lynch’s ‘Dragon Lady’ Muse

Jane Lynch’s character on Glee . Sue Sylvester, may seem like gorgon dreamed from the actress’s imagination, but Lynch says she based her performance on a professor she had at Illinois State University. “We called her ‘The Dragon Lady,’ and she was an acting teacher. When she walked down the hall, kids would part like the red sea. She wore layers, and she flowed, and she was big, had a loud voice. It was rumored she was a lesbian — in the cornfields of Illinois, God bless her.” She also spilled that Glee ‘s season finale would feature Jonathan Groff performing “Bohemian Rhapsody” and celebrity reappearances. Last Night on Community: Team Annie

There was something oddly sincere about the cliche-packed season finale of Community , and maybe that was the ultimate joke. Whereas the recent spoof episodes were overflowing with meta references and acknowledgments to what was happening , “Pascal’s Triangle Revisited” played things mostly straight. Or as straight as a show can be while literally explaining the origins of “jump the shark.” The end of the year Transfer Dance — rechristened “Tranny Dance” by the furry-loving dean — wound up being the Waterloo for Jeff, Brita and Jeff’s “Hey, remember me” ex-girlfriend, Slater, because that’s what end of the year dances are there for: Big emotional speeches where true feelings are revealed. And, oh yeah, surprise endings.
