Michael Jackson Family Announces Tribute Concert

Lineup for October show in Cardiff, Wales, will be revealed August 3. Photo: AFP/Getty Images Michael Jackson ‘s family has announced a tribute concert to the late King of Pop that is slated to take place on October 8 in Cardiff, Wales. The four-hour show at the 75,000-capacity Millennium Stadium will be broadcast via satellite on pay-per-view and into movie theaters with a cast of big-name performers whose identities have not yet been revealed. At the Beverly Hills press conference on Monday revealing the details of the “Michael Forever” show, Jackson family matriarch Katherine was joined by sons Tito, Jackie and Marlon and daughter LaToya; siblings Jermaine, Randy, Janet and estranged husband Joe were not in attendance. “When I was told some of the names of the artists performing, I knew it would be fit for a king. If my son was here today he would feel the same way, and so I’d like to say thank you very much for helping to keep my son’s legacy alive,” Katherine Jackson said of Michael, who died in June 2009 of a heart attack caused by a prescription drug overdose. According to Wales Online , the show will feature artists Jackson admired and will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the start of his solo career. “I will be there along with as many members of my family that can make it,” Katherine said. “It is intended to be the biggest and best concert in the world for many years to come.” Sister LaToya added, “This event is far, far overdue. He was an entertainer who I feel no one can ever stand up to or hold a candle to as far as his talent is concerned. This tribute will be something spectacular and I know that he would approve.” One of the show’s producers said that despite taking place in a large stadium, the building’s roof will be closed to create a more intimate atmosphere. Proceeds from the show will benefit three charities Jackson supported: the Prince’s Trust, AIDS Project Los Angeles and a cancer charity. The show’s lineup will be announced on August 3. As with many things related to MJ’s legacy, there was controversy, as brothers Randy and Jermaine said they thought the timing of the show was inappropriate. In a statement, the two said, “While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death. As everyone knows, those proceedings commence September 20.” That date is when Jackson’s former doctor, Conrad Murray , is slated to go on trial for manslaughter charges in the singer’s death. Jermaine attempted to put on a tribute concert to his late brother in September 2009, but the show fell apart after many of the top acts were unable to commit to the event. ‘Avengers’ Star Clark Gregg Backs Marvel TV Show

‘S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Coulson really lend themselves to a TV show,’ actor says about his ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Thor’ character. By Aubrey Sitterson Clark Gregg Photo: Jim Spellman/ WireImage Though you might not know him by name, if you’ve seen many of Marvel’s recent superhero flicks, chances are you’ll recognize Clark Gregg. The actor plays Agent Coulson in three Marvel movies — “Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2” and “Thor” — and will reprise the role in next summer’s “The Avengers.” Coulson is one of the few prominent roles in Marvel’s expanding cinematic universe that isn’t based on a pre-existing comic book character. Appearing first in “Iron Man,” Coulson is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, better known by the acronym S.H.I.E.L.D., and has been seen trying to wrangle both Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark as well as Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, with a bureaucratic demeanor frequently played for laughs. In an interview with MTV News, Gregg discussed the future of his silver-screen character in regard to some future television appearances. “It’s been revealed today that I’m already doing ‘Ultimate [Spider-Man],’ ” the actor explained, “which is about Spider-Man and a couple other soon-to-be-released Marvel superheroes who are hiding out undercover in a high school in New York, and Agent Coulson is hiding out as their principal, keeping an eye on them and taking things way too seriously.” Even more exciting, however, was the mention of a potential future television show focused on S.H.I.E.L.D., the premiere global peacekeeping force in the Marvel Universe — like an international “X-Files” for superheroes. While a S.H.I.E.L.D. series hasn’t been formally announced, the idea clearly appeals to Gregg. “In a lot of ways, S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Coulson really lend themselves to a TV show because it’s normal people,” Coulson said. “It’s real people dealing with extraordinary things.” Would you watch a S.H.I.E.L.D. television series? Amy Winehouse’s Death ‘Extremely Sad,’ Fans Say

‘It’s a great loss for music,’ fan tells MTV News. By Rya Backer Amy Winehouse Photo: Dave Hogan/ Getty Images Music fans the world over are mourning the tragic death of Amy Winehouse , who died Saturday at the age of 27. Throughout her career, the British songstress earned both accolades through her breakthrough album, Back to Black, which earned her five Grammys, and notoriety for her substance abuse. As many of her celebrity fans took to Twitter to express their sadness, MTV News caught up with some of her fans in Times Square, who had plenty to say about both sides of Winehouse’s life. Fan Kristen Brumley said, “It’s not an extreme shock if it is drug or alcohol related, but it’s extremely sad.” Korde Tuttle also spoke about Winehouse’s sometimes-vocal fondness for drugs and drink, saying, “I really hope it’s a wake-up call for not only her fans but music lovers in general and people who may have used substances. There is a limit, and the world got to see her reach that limit, and that’s really sad.” Despite Winehouse’s multiple and well-publicized attempts at cleaning up, fellow Brit Tuesday Holder admitted, “I think it was meant to come,” mentioning that the singer’s passing “was kind of inevitable, but it’s a bit sad. She was so young.” Fans will forever remember Winehouse for her most powerful and lasting contribution: her music. “I think Amy Winehouse brought a new aspect of music back,” fan Kate Coyne said, “and she really gave women who wanted to sing blues a voice, and I think that was great.” Holder expressed the same sentiment, saying, “I think it’s a great loss for music, especially U.K. music. She was a great artist, a great songwriter, and I think she had a lot more to come out of.” Nakia Williams spoke of Winehouse’s unique style: “Her crazy look! Her hair, her big hair, her tattoos!” Most fans said they hope the mark she made in pop culture through her powerful pipes and signature looks won’t be outshined by her darker days. As fan Hector Castillo stated, “I would say just to remember the music she created that’s going to be listened to for a long time.” Related Videos Amy Winehouse Remembered Related Photos Amy Winehouse: A Life In Photos Related Artists Amy Winehouse
