Rihanna Searches For Love In ‘Where Have You Been’ Video

Singer goes tribal and gets her dance on in trippy new Talk That Talk video. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna in her “Where Have You Been” music video Photo: Island/Def Jam Rihanna ‘s wondering “Where Have You Been” in the just-released music video for the Talk That Talk single. Her search takes her to mucky rivers, flower-drenched hillsides, desert-scapes and smoke-filled dance parties, overflowing with dancers popping and locking in tribal couture alongside the sexy pop vixen. The video, which she dropped on her Facebook page , opens with Rihanna emerging from a river, scantily clad and as lonely-looking as hinted at in the track’s lyrics. “Where have you been all my life?” she sings while performing more intense choreography than fans of the singer might be used to. She shimmies and shakes in an exotic desert-like setting, wondering where her one true love might be hiding. The video serves as a kind of photo shoot for a tribal-print-themed spread in a fashion magazine, with Ri donning funky looks that feature lots of animal prints, chunky jewelry and headdresses. It’s sexy and full of longing, much like the song itself, and even includes the singer appearing topless in certain shots. And if a topless Rihanna can’t find love, what hope is there for the rest of humanity? As the Calvin Harris-produced track grinds on in all its EDM glory, Rihanna continues her trek throughout the world, looking for that special guy, who seems to slip through her fingers at every turn. Rihanna looks fiercely into the camera, shimmying to the song’s bumping beat, with her siren call being blasted into the wilds of the world. The video turns psychedelic as it nears its end and a kaleidoscope effect is filtered over the clip, with glitter-sprinkled Rihanna making one final plea. Several dance breaks, wardrobe changes and hairstyles later, Rihanna looks as if she still might have to live her life all by her lonesome. At the video’s end, she goes back underwater, with just her dancers to keep her company. Don’t forget to watch Rihanna on MTV tonight at 7:56 p.m. ET to watch the premiere of an exclusive “Battleship” clip, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A with the film’s stars on MTV.com, hosted by MTV News’ Josh Horowitz. Usher Says ‘Scream’ Is ‘Just In Time For Summer’

Following ‘Climax,’ singer tells MTV News his latest single ‘represents the other side’ of Looking for Myself album. By Jocelyn Vena Usher Photo: MTV News Bumping beats, sexy lyrics and Usher ‘s signature R&B bad-boy swagger can only mean one thing: the singer has once again hooked up with superstar pop producer Max Martin. Their latest collaboration, “Scream,” picks up where “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” left off back in 2010. Usher used that track to convince us to go home with him after a dizzying night of partying, and for “Scream,” he’s got us back at his pad and he’s rocking our world, one fist-pumping moment at a time. While he opted to slow it down on “Climax,” Usher is back to large-scale dance tracks on Looking for Myself ‘s second single. And, he told MTV News, both tracks reflect the sound of the album. “This album has many different views and many different perspectives,” he told MTV News while rehearsing for his one-night run as the lead in NYC’s off-Broadway spectacle “Fuerza Bruta,” which also served as a place for Usher to debut the album ahead of its release. “And me and Max Martin, we’ve had success together in the past, and this was a record I felt represented the other side of the [album].” “Scream” and “Climax” truly are polar-opposite tracks. Where “Climax” sears and broods, “Scream” celebrates and dances. Usher is excited for the chance to show all those sides with the two lead singles from the June 12 release. “Whereas the first song was a little bit more artistic and a little bit more soulful, and it has done everything, it probably exceeded my expectations, I mean, from the moment I was able to give it away. I was able to kind of be reintroduced in a way musically, and thank you to [producer] Diplo, but ‘Scream’ is really like the next step. It’s just in time for summer and the type of experience that I want people to get out of the album.” But the Atlanta-bred singer notes that the album can’t be defined just by “Climax” or “Scream.” There’s a lot there to keep fans tuning in. “It’s a ton of other experiences and a ton of other walks … as I’ve had this long journey over the last year [and] every bit of what I’ve experienced I’ve put into a creative, artistic way,” he said. As for the video, well, that still has to be shot, but he joked that “Fuerza Bruta” might serve as the perfect backdrop for the clip — or maybe not. “We might be shooting it while we’re here,” he laughed. “This is like a movie set, damn near — sh– you don’t normally see with the launch of an album. This is pretty spectacular.” What are you expecting from Usher’s next album? Let us know in the comments!

Fun. Ready To Burn Bright At MTV Movie Awards

‘It’s an opportunity to have a performance that will be talked about forever,’ band says of taking the Movie Awards stage on June 3. By James Montgomery Nate Ruess of fun. Photo: Getty Images Given that Fun. are the first musical act announced for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , you’d think they’d be privy to all sorts of insider info on the big show, like potential hosts, nominees, etc. But, you’d be wrong. Turns out, they’re just as much in the dark as the rest of us. “We haven’t heard anything. Who’s going to be there?” frontman Andrew Ruess laughed. “Jackie Chan? Jon Bon Jovi? They better be there, for sure.” Sadly, we can’t vouch for either gentleman’s availability on June 3, when the Movie Awards air live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. But we can tell you that the guys in Fun. are planning on making the most of their time on stage, by going big with their performance of chart-topping smash “We Are Young.” “It’s one of the most flattering things that’s happened to us on this rollercoaster ride of this song and this album, because I just remember watching all those award shows — like the Video Music Awards and Movie Awards — and you always wonder like how they’re doing it, what their big reveal is going to be, all those other type of things,” Ruess said. “We’ve had meetings about how our set’s going to be and what it’s going to look like, and it’s so exciting. It’s so exciting how much effort MTV puts into this show, like, we have to show up and play the song, but they build this whole entire world around us, and it’s so amazing.” “It’s also an opportunity to have a performance that will be talked about forever,” guitarist Jack Antonoff added. “Like, I still talk about [the 2000 VMAs], when Eminem had the thousand people dressed like him, or when Smashing Pumpkins did ‘Tonight, Tonight’ [at the ’96 VMAs] … these are moments that, for us, growing up, last forever, and if we could pull off something like that, it would be amazing.” And as if being tapped to perform at the 2012 Movie Awards wasn’t already a big enough deal for the band, there’s also the fact that they’ve got previous MTV awards-show experience … though, to be fair, this will be the first time they’ve actually been invited to attend. “I went to the Video Music Awards when I was 14. My friend from camp had a friend who had a dad who was involved, and we sat near Rebecca Lobo and the Spice Girls,” Antonoff said. “It was the year that Fiona Apple gave the big speech, which, in hindsight, was pretty inspiring. My mind was blown, and I thought ‘This is just filled with famous people, and somehow I’m in the middle of it.’ So, to be able to go back to an MTV awards show — not through a friend of a friend who has a dad who works at Viacom — but to actually be invited, is an honor.” The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

True Or False: Did Kid Cudi Chop Down Cassie’s Supple Cakes Behind Diddy’s Back?

It seems Kid Cudi’s bad boy days aren’t behind him after all… Kid Cudi Allegedly Hooked Up With Cassie Behind Diddy’s Back Sources close to the rapper are alleging that he definitely slept with Bad Boy artist (and Diddy love interest) Cassie Ventura and is now living in fear for his life that Diddy wants revenge on him! According to the inside source, Kid Cudi went behind Diddy’s back and hooked up with his girl Cassie a couple months ago. Everyone has kept it hush hush in the industry, but the rumors were bound to come out eventually, because news of the betrayal has been spreading like wildfire. Cudi has allegedly been spitting game at Cassie for a while and took advantage of her while she was in a vulnerable state. She trusted him like a friend. But he totally abused her trust. The good news for Cassie is that, while Diddy was allegedly very upset initially, the affair seems to have brought Diddy and Cassie closer. Earlier this week Cudi claimed his Twitter hacked after these messages appeared: Our source also says Cudi left clues about the affair in his latest song “Dennis, Hook Me Up With Some More Of That Whiskey!” which dropped last week. “They 100% had sex,” the source tells BOSSIP. “And thats where the lines “Ni**az really want me dead, HATE Not my fault Im intriguing’ are from. Diddy wanting him dead when he found out.” Listen to the song below: SMH @ Cudi… We thought dude was trying to live a sober life after being caught with all that yayo but the lyrics of this song make it pretty clear he’s still doping it up. Gotye Changes Tune On ‘Glee’ Cover

Singer says the show’s version of ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ was not ‘dinky,’ but ‘clever.’ By Gil Kaufman Gotye Photo: MTV News Did Australian singing sensation Gotye say he thought the “Glee” cover of his breakthrough hit “Somebody That I Used to Know” was “dinky and wrong” , “ultra-dry” and sounded like “it’s playing to you from a cardboard box?” Well, what he actually meant was that the version performed by Darren Criss and Matt Bomer on last week’s episode was “really clever.” According to The Hollywood Reporter , during a private performance at a Los Angeles club on Monday afternoon Gotye clarified his comments. He explained that, “The nature of using reverb and space in a recording can change your perception of how a sound appeals to you.” That was after he originally said, “They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop ‘Glee’ style, ultra-dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it’s playing to you from a cardboard box,” which was actually meant as a compliment. See, what Gotye was referring to was, “This xylophone hook in my song — it’s kind of dinky not just in the cover version but the original song.” Aha! Furthermore, Gotye said he thought the interpretation of his hit on the choral drama was, “Really clever to transpose the song to two guys … It was a great idea.” Whatever Gotye thought of it, the cover was just what “Somebody” needed to get over the hump and top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. And Gotye wasn’t the first singer to slam the show (and/or creator Ryan Murphy), joining a list that includes the Foo Fighters
, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash and Kings of Leon

‘American Idol’ Castoff Colton Dixon Talks ‘Weird’ Song Choice

Christian rocker says fans may have been ‘turned off’ when he decided to perform Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance.’ By Christina Garibaldi Colton Dixon on “American Idol” Photo: Fox American Idol had fans scratching their heads two weeks in a row after another shocking elimination . Potential favorite Colton Dixon, the Christian rocker from Tennessee, found himself in unfamiliar territory on last week’s episode, landing in the bottom three for the first time. Fans were convinced that he would return to the couch, but after 53 million votes, Dixon was sent packing. What’s the reason for his early exit? Well, according to Dixon, it was his song choice . The 20-year-old took the stage to perform two songs that night, the first being Lady Gaga ‘s smash single, “Bad Romance.” “I’m like, ‘I can metal the snot out of this song,’ ” Dixon told MTV News on Monday (April 23) about his thought process in choosing the song. “I just started getting giddy thinking about it. I saw the smoke and I was like, ‘I’m in!’ and I ran with it.” But now, Colton feels that the message of the song may have offended his fanbase. “I had fun with the song, that was who I was and I had a blast with it,” Dixon said. “And you know, it’s not necessarily a bad message, we all want something that’s not good for us, but that’s how I took the song and I had to edit around some of Gaga’s choice words to have it fit me a little better. But still, I think my audience heard Gaga and just went ‘Oh, weird’ and kinda turned off a little bit, which I understand. I take such a strong stance in my faith, I do understand.” Yet, Dixon has no hard feelings against the song, or Lady Gaga, whom he happens to be a big fan of. “I love her, I do. She’s a great artist and she can sing her tail off and that’s what I love,” Dixon revealed. “She does whatever she can and whatever she has to do to stay on top of the music industry and she does a great job of it.” Were you surprised to see Colton leave “American Idol”? Mini Kanye Struts In Unofficial ‘Way Too Cold’ Video

Fan-directed video stars grade schooler rapping lyrics to West song. By Gil Kaufman A scene from Ashley Smith’s “Way Too Cold” video Photo: Ashley Smith Films Sometimes there’s no reason to wait for the real thing. We have no idea if Kanye West is planning on shooting an official video for his Kim-Kardashian-crush note “Way Too Cold” (originally titled “Theraflu”) . In the meantime, director Ashley Smith has jumped into the breach, posting an unofficial clip for the song on her Vimeo page on Thursday that, well, just kills it. The can’t-look-away video stars a ridiculously cute half-pint reportedly named Caleb as Kanye and the kid is a star. As he struts the streets with his leggy blonde companion (holding her hand at first, awwww), mini ‘Ye rips the song’s lyrics, yes, even the four-and five-letter ones in a video that is the viral opposite of one of West’s typically high-concept, arty pieces. His swagger is unmistakable as he moves through Manhattan past some of Yeezy’s favorite luxury New York outlets while his companion shakes it for him. All the while, Caleb keeps it cool behind some shades and a mini leather jacket, aping the lyrics by throwing up the Roc to prove his allegiance. And, then, for reasons known only to Smith, actors wearing Donald Trump, Condoleezza Rice, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and Sarah Palin masks pop up, posing menacingly on the street, that is when they’re not grinding on each other. How ridiculous is the kid? At one point he pulls off a flawless split, his hand triumphantly up in the air before breaking into a coughing fit as Theraflu pours out into a measuring cup. The good news is that Smith might have plenty more material to choose from, since DJ Khaled recently told MTV News that he and Kanye have plenty more tracks cooking . “Me and Kanye West went back in the lab and we made another record and got some features on there too,” Khaled said, without revealing too much about the next tune. “I can’t really talk about it, so expect another monstrous earthquake to hit the streets.” Related Artists Kanye West
