Enrique Iglesias Didn’t Want To Sound ‘Arrogant’ On AMA Song ‘Tonight’

‘Some songs are supposed to be taken seriously; some songs are not supposed to be taken as seriously,’ he tells MTV News of new single. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Enrique Iglesias Photo: MTV News When Enrique Iglesias took the stage at the American Music Awards on Sunday (November 21), he not only performed the mega-hit “I Like It,” but also his self-proclaimed raunchy new single “Tonight.” While he cleaned up the lyrics in the chorus from “Tonight, I’m f—ing you” to “Tonight, I’m loving you,” he told MTV News he’s pretty connected to both versions. “For me, the most important thing when I was in the studio singing it was, ‘How do I sing this and not sound arrogant, like an idiot or way too out there?’ And that’s really what it came down to,” he told MTV News. “I did it a bunch of times, and I heard it back, and it felt good for me, the phrase: ‘Please excuse, I don’t mean to be rude, but tonight, I’m [f—ing] you.’ I thought I didn’t want it to be one of those songs I heard on the radio and say to myself, ‘Man, I wish I would have sang that.’ And I felt it was one of those special ones.” Iglesias isn’t known to use expletives in his music, but admits that there was just something about this song. “There wasn’t [any reservations]. … The minute I put vocals on it and it felt good, I’m like, ‘I got to go with it.’ … ‘Cause it’s not that I was trying to push it; I just liked the song,” he said. “Really, that’s what it comes down to at the end of the day: If I like the song, the melody, the message. Some songs are supposed to be taken seriously; some songs are not supposed to be taken as seriously. This one, you can take both ways,” he smiled. What did you think of Enrique’s AMA performance? Jeremih And 50 Cent ‘Keep It Real Sexy’ In ‘Down On Me’ Video

‘We got a lot of sexy ladies, kept it classy,’ the ‘Birthday Sex’ singer tells MTV News on video set. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias 50 Cent and Jeremih on the set of their video for “Down On Me” Photo: MTV News When Jeremih returned with his sophomore effort All About You, the “Birthday Sex” singer wanted the set to feel familiar to fans and echo the notes he struck on his debut. Now, for his latest single “Down on Me,” Jeremih wants the video to match the song’s sultry feel. “The song itself is definitely for the clubs. We wanted to keep it real sexy for the ladies,” he told MTV News. “As an artist, there’s nothing like hearing your record in the club. The visual, we wanted to make sure when you see the video in the club, it portrays that message. So we got a lot of sexy ladies, kept it classy. … It’s going down.” 50 Cent lends his vocals to the track, and the G-Unit boss reiterated Jeremih’s claims. “It’s a pleasure to hear great music after you finished in the studio,” he explained. “Then you use your imagination and wonder how people are gonna embrace it. “Me, I got a different approach,” the rapper continued. “I’ll be like, ‘Ah, man, when n—as hear this, they gonna be sick. I’m back, baby!’ ” “Down on Me” is Jeremih’s second single from All About You, following the slow-burning “I Like.” The new song received a boost from 50 spoofing the track during an appearance on Chelsea Hander’s late-night show; the rapper appeared with YouTube star Keenan Cahill and lampooned the song in a bit that became a viral hit. Rihanna Glad Avril Lavigne Appears On Loud’s ‘Cheers’

‘Cheers (Drink to That)’ ‘makes you feel like celebrating,’ Rihanna tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Rihanna Photo: MTV News Rihanna isn’t afraid to share the limelight on her new album, Loud . She appears with everyone from Drake to Eminem to Nicki Minaj . But, one artist fans might be surprised to see make a cameo on the album is Avril Lavigne . Rih samples the singer’s yodel from her 2002 ballad “I’m With You” on her party anthem “Cheers (Drink to That).” “I love that song [‘Cheers’]. That is one of my favorite songs on the album. It makes you feel like celebrating,” she tells MTV News about the song. “It gives you a great feeling inside like you want to go out and have a drink. … People can’t wait for the weekend.” Sure, Rihanna has a busy schedule that doesn’t really warrant her having the weekend off, but she says she still loves them. “I work all weekend, but I still can’t wait. I still get excited about it being Friday, even though I’m not getting the weekend off,” she explains. “I got to be up at 5 a.m. on Saturday anyway. I just like the fact that it’s Friday. It’s just something that became a habit, so you get that feeling Friday night [and] it doesn’t matter what time you have to wake up on Saturday. You want to get excited about the weekend, you want to go out and have a drink with your girls, who have the weekend off.” On “Cheers,” Rih samples Lavigne, and she explains why they didn’t just have the Canadian pop singer come in and re-record the vocal for the song. “I asked the same thing, but when I heard the track, it was already embedded in the music, so the producers already had it that way,” she explains. “But it wouldn’t have made a difference. It would have sounded the same. But I’m just glad that we could use her sample, because it became such a huge part of the instrumental that if it were not to be in the song, it would change the whole vibe of the song.” What’s your favorite song on Loud ? B.o.B’s ‘Don’t Let Me Fall’ Video Premieres

T.I. makes an appearance in trippy new clip. By Paul Cantor B.o.B in his music video for “Don’t Let Me Fall” Photo: Atlantic B.o.B’s new video for “Don’t Let Me Fall,” the fourth clip from the Atlanta rapper’s debut LP, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, premiered midnight Tuesday (November 16) on MTV.com. The video was directed by Ethan Lander, who also manned the lens for B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You,” and was shot in downtown Denver and at Red Rocks Park and Ampitheatre. The clip weaves in footage from B.o.B’s humble beginnings and follows him as he rises up the ranks in rap’s food chain. Supporters, from manager TJ Chapman to T.I., who executive-produced B.o.B’s debut LP and released it on his Grand Hustle imprint, are also included in the footage. It’s appropriate, considering the song is a “thank you” of sorts to those who’ve supported him. The lyrics find B.o.B singing, “Well it was just a dream, just a moment ago/ I was up so high, lookin’ down at the sky, don’t let me fall/ I was shooting for stars on a Saturday night/ They say, ‘What goes up must come down’/ But don’t let me fall.” The video opens with B.o.B sitting upright on a bench, which seems to be lying on the floor. The world is moving around him, as if he’s fallen. Throughout the video, the aforementioned early clips play on an old tube television sitting next to the rapper. B.o.B recites his lines in performance shots set against the rocky terrain of Red Rocks Park and in the open space of the amphitheater. Later, he’s shown hanging sideways from a parking meter on the sidewalk. People walking by fall around him, but he’s unable to get up on his own. In the final verse, a band joins him, and they’re all lying horizontally on the sidewalk, playing the song with B.o.B strumming a guitar. At the end of the video, he stands upright of his own accord and walks away. Last month, the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust voted B.o.B. the #9 Hottest MC in the Game . My Chemical Romance Say ‘Na Na Na’ Saved The Band

Gerard Way says Danger Days’ first single ‘was the momentum we needed to dig deep and record another album.’ By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way Photo: Warner Brothers On November 22, My Chemical Romance will return with their supercharged new album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys , and if they seem rather invigorated this time out — what with frontman Gerard Way’s radioactive-red dye job and their newfound affinity for Trans Ams and DayGlo leather jackets — well, they owe it all to one song: the hyperkinetic first single, “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na).” Because, as Way told BBC Radio’s Zane Lowe earlier this week, up until the moment they wrote the song, MCR were floundering, putting the finishing touches on an album (produced by Brendan O’Brien) that they weren’t happy with, and dealing with the departure of drummer Bob Bryar . But as soon as they had the breakneck chord progressions in place for “Na Na Na,” they knew everything had changed. “That’s the moment where we said, ‘This song changes everything. We’re starting over right now. We’re starting it over with [producer Rob] Cavallo, and we’re doing it now,’ ” Way said. “Everything up to that point had felt like we had been in this kind of stasis, and as artists, stasis really equals death. So, it was so bad, the vibe wasn’t good, and then ‘Na Na’ happened. And then, all of a sudden, there was this real, big intensity underneath us, and it was the momentum we needed to dig deep and record another album.” Recharged, the band met up with Cavallo (who did their 2006 album, The Black Parade ) and powered through. The end result was Danger Days, and though the album’s release is still more than two months away, Way says that “Na Na Na” is just a taste of what fans can expect on the album. There’s an energy to it, a spirit. It’s the song that saved the band, and he hopes the MCRmy will feel that power too. “To me, the power of the song is how it propelled all of us, and that’s kind of how we hoped it would propel everyone else,” Way said. “[The] spirit is … back, and it took a little while to figure out exactly who and what the band is and kind of re-embrace it, as opposed to turn our back on it.” What do you think of MCR’s new single, “Na Na Na”? Taylor Swift’s Many Muses, From Joe Jonas To Kanye West

Singer/songwriter doesn’t back down from writing about her personal relationships and experiences. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift performs at the VMAs on Sunday Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Taylor Swift has a history of writing songs about the men in her life. While the subject of her latest hit, “Mine,” off her upcoming album Speak Now , remains a mystery, Swift hasn’t been shy about expressing her feelings for the likes of Joe Jonas, a guy named Drew and, most recently, we presume, Kanye West. Even when she doesn’t specifically name her muse in a song’s lyrics, she’s doesn’t back down from discussing who her songs are about. Back in 2006, when Swift was only 16, she released her track “Tim McGraw,” inspired by the country singer’s song “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’.” In it, Swift sings, “When you think Tim McGraw, I hope you think of me.” She told , “The song is based on true events — it happened in real life. I had a boyfriend and we had broken up. After the break-up, I wanted him to be reminded of me.” After working the world of country for some time, Swift had a breakthrough hit with her ballad “Teardrops on My Guitar.” While the guy she wrote about, Drew, wasn’t famous, he is one of the few guys she calls out by name in her lyrics. “He showed up in my driveway this Christmas, and it was awkward because it was three years after I wrote the song,” she said. “He was like, ‘Hey.’ It was definitely weird. I was going to a hockey game with my friends, and it was the most drama you could have when you have to go pick up your friends. I got over it. I wrote the song. It’s a venting process.” In 2008, Swift thought her relationship with Joe Jonas was “Forever and Always,” but Jonas reportedly broke up with her over the phone. And Swift wasn’t afraid to open up about her relationship with her famous ex in her song, which appeared on Fearless. “With this situation, I feel like I owed it to my fans to be like, ‘Look, it happened, you weren’t crazy,’ and address it,” she told MTV News. “And I addressed it, and, you know, that’s a chapter in my life that’s closed now.” Finally, Taylor Swift debuted her new ballad, tentatively titled “Innocent,” at the 2010 VMAs . In it, she discusses a man who has lost his path in life, but whose “streaming lights are bright to me.” Given that Swift refers to “new Septembers” (the same month in which the VMAs are held), she is presumably singing about Kanye West. And Swift has made it clear that this next album will be about things and people that featured prominently in her life over the last few years. “For me, I write everything that I live, so you’ve got to give yourself a little bit of time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things. And my only option is to write about what I’ve been through and what I’ve lived. So thankfully, in the past two years, I’ve experienced a lot of things that I’ve been dying to write about and a lot of things that I wanted to say in the moment that I didn’t,” she said about Speak Now , due in October. The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. Melting Ice Forces 10,000 Walruses Ashore in Alaska

(Sept. 15) — Female walruses traditionally like to spend the summer lounging on slabs of sea ice with their young, occasionally dipping into shallow Arctic waters for a fishy treat. But over the past few weeks, thousands of these mammals have given up their free-floating lifestyle and taken up residence along the Alaska side of the Chukchi Sea. An estimated 10,000 to 20,000 Pacific walruses — mainly mothers and calves — are resting along the coastline, gathered together in tightly clustered pods, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. (Bulls normally splash around the Bering Sea in summer months.) Because only 20 percent of walruses normally come to shore, the Alaska Dispatch notes, scientists suspect another 80,000 walruses could be swimming close by. This is the third time such a sea-to-land migration — common in Russia, but historically unprecedented in Alaska — has taken place in the last four years. This unusual behavior appears to have been triggered by the slow warming of the Arctic waters through climate change, which in turn has shrunk the amount of thick, walrus-suitable sea ice. Last week, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center reported that Arctic sea ice coverage had fallen to its third-lowest level since records began in 1979; only 2007 and 2008 saw lower levels. added by: TimALoftis
