Lil Wayne Plans On ‘Touring Forever’

‘I can be the first hip-hop artist to do Vegas every night,’ Wayne tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne may have extended his I Am Still Music Tour through the summer, but he isn’t going to stop there. “I actually plan on being one of those artists that can go on a tour when they’re like 40, like U2, Michael Jackson,” Lil Wayne told Sway during an interview after the taping of his “MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged.” With his upcoming Tha Carter IV set to drop August 24, Weezy added 40 more dates, creating a second leg of his I Am Still Music run. As it stands now, the tour will conclude on September 11 in Woodlands, Texas. This past weekend, the Young Money CEO played the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, and has no plans of slowing down. “I actually plan on being one of those artists, with all the music and all the work I’m putting out, I believe that later on down the line, I can do Vegas. I can be the first hip-hop artist to do Vegas every night. That’s the plan.” Fans got a televised taste of Weezy’s live show when Birdman Jr. performed for the cameras during his “Unplugged” special, which aired on MTV 2 on Sunday. Wayne rocked with a full band and ran through proven hits like “Fireman,” “A Milli” and “Lollipop,” as well as new favorites like “Nightmares of the Bottom” and “6 Foot, 7 Foot.” It isn’t all rap either. During his live shows, Wayne dips into his rock catalog, doing songs from his gold-selling Rebirth album as well. It’s his deep and diversified well of tunes that will ensure that Wayne never goes home, unless he chooses to do so. “I plan on touring forever, actually,” he said. “Probably when I’m like 50, I might be like, ‘Let’s go, gimme some dates.’ ” Related Videos MTV2 Presents Unplugged Lil Wayne MTV News Extended Play: Lil Wayne Related Photos MTV2 Presents Unplugged Lil Wayne Related Artists Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne’s Musical Director Explains Science Of ‘Unplugged’ Set List

‘Wayne chooses what’s going on. He’s the boss,’ Gil Smith tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne Photo: MTV On his 2008 tour Lil Wayne proclaimed that he was music. Just in case there are any doubters, Weezy is currently reassuring fans on his I Am Still Music Tour . And on Sunday Lil Tunechi once again staked his claim and put his diversified musical prowess on display on The show featured Wayne’s hardcore rap bars on “A Milli,” his rock-out howl on “Drop the World” and some R&B stylings on his “How to Love”/ “Lollipop” mashup. One of the forces behind Weezy’s growth is his musical director, Gil Smith, who has been touring with the Young Money CEO since 2008 and helped put together the set list for Wayne’s “Unplugged” special. “It was crazy. We were on tour on the first leg of the I Am Still Music Tour and it just came in an e-mail: ‘Wayne has unplugged,’ ” Smith told MTV News. “As a band we kind of get together and we get excited about stuff like that. So we start thinking about which songs he could do.” Choosing from the Cash Money star’s catalog of music is no easy feat, especially when you have to satisfy an intimate audience of fans as well as the millions of folks expected to watch on television. “Thankfully we’re familiar with his repertoire, having been on the road with him,” Smith said. “We’re familiar with what songs he loves, what songs are important to him, and then also wanting to incorporate Tha Carter IV, which is being released this summer.” What Smith and his team ended up with were different segments of a show: one for longtime fans, another to showcase new music from Tha Carter IV and then lastly some random favorites. The next step was taking the ideas to Team Weezy. “As far as working with Wayne’s management, Tez, he is very helpful in putting together the set list,” Smith said. “Other than that it’s Wayne. He chooses what’s going on. He’s the boss.” With Wayne’s approval, songs like “Mr. Carter” off of Tha Carter III, “Hustler’s Muzik” from Tha Carter II and brand-new tracks like “How to Love,” “6 Foot, 7 Foot” and the previously unheard “Nightmares of the Bottom” ultimately made the cut, thanks to Gil Smith and of course Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne Shoots I Am Still Music Tour Documentary

‘It’s going to be real major,’ Wayne says of behind-the-scenes look at his current tour. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Fans who haven’t gotten a ticket to Lil Wayne’s I Am Still Music Tour will still get a chance to see Weezy on the big stage after all. While backstage at his New Orleans show last week Weezy revealed to MTV News that he has been filming select dates and will compile the footage into a tour documentary similar to Jay-Z’s 2000 film, Backstage, and Russell Simmons’ 1995 doc The Show. “I just felt like a movie like that hasn’t come out in so long,” Weezy said. “At that time when they put those movies out, we as the fans were interested in what they were doing on the road. … Nobody hasn’t came around since then that was that interesting other than Young Money.” The I Am Still Music Tour , which kicked off on March 16, has already made key stops in New York and Miami, and will conclude on May 1 at the Bamboozle festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey. A source close to the Young Money camp also confirmed that DJ Scoob Doo has been shooting behind-the-scenes footage, and several cameras have been set up to film at different tour dates. While there is no word whether the film will be a theatrical release or a straight-to-DVD offering, Tunechi is confident that it will be impactful. “It’s going to be real major; it’s going to be real big,” he said. “I will eat real nice.” Related Photos Lil Wayne Returns To Glory With I Am Still Music Tour Lil Wayne Brings ‘I Am Still Music’ Tour Home To New Orleans Related Artists Lil Wayne

New Britney Spears ‘Till The World Ends’ Video Hits Web

The re-edited version of the post-apocalyptic party clip features more footage of Spears and her backup dancers showing off their moves. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears in her new “Till the World Ends” video Photo: Jive A dance version of Britney Spears’ “Till the World Ends” video has hit the Web just in time for the weekend. The original clip, which premiered earlier this month and got lots of great buzz for Spears, shows the pop vixen leading a wild underground dance party as an apocalyptic storm hits the planet, and the new video features a lot of similar footage with a number of noticeable changes. One of the most conspicuous differences is that the new “Till the World Ends” clip offers a lengthier peek into some of the sleek moves of Spears’ backup dancers. There are definitely more shots of Britney dancing as well, even if sometimes they are obscured in shadow. Interestingly enough, much of the apocalypse storyline has been edited out to make room for those new dancing shots. While the party looks the same, the fact that the world is crashing around them is a nonissue for this version of the Ray Kay-directed video. Rather than focusing on the impending doom outside, this cut displays all the fun down in Spears’ sweaty underground party. As the video closes out, there are shots of her dancers, individually, showing off their skills, intercut with footage of Spears smiling as she sings about getting her party on. The new clip’s ending is entirely different from that of the original. Instead of emerging from her post-apocalyptic party to a sun-drenched world that, well, has not ended, Spears just looks into the camera, still apparently hiding from what is assumed to be some catastrophe that has befallen the Earth. It hints at a darker finish for Spears and her partiers … maybe in this version the world does end. “The real music video is best, of course,” Ray Kay tweeted on Thursday about his re-edited version of the clip. “But it’s fun to watch the choreography too.” Do like like the dance-heavy re-edited version of Britney’s “Till the World Ends” video? Lil Wayne Treats Hometown Fans To Surprise Appearances By Drake, Chris Paul

Weezy, Nicki Minaj soak up the love at New Orleans Arena. By Akshay Bhansali Lil Wayne performs in New Orleans on Thursday Photo: Akshay Bhansali/ MTV News “It’s good to be home, New Orleans,” hometown hero Lil Wayne told the audience after taking the stage at Hornets Arena in the Crescent City. And the sold-out crowd of his birthplace loved him for it. All of Weezy’s I Am Still Music tourmates hit the stage on Thursday night, including Porcelain Black, Mix Master Mike & Travis Barker, and Ricky Rozay Ross, with an appearance by buddy DJ Khaled, each giving it their all, and the crowd was with them ever step of the way. After launching into the first quarter of his performance, “A Milli” and “Got Money” (with fellow Nola MC Mack Maine), Wayne gave the city another series of nods. Before getting into “Go DJ,” Wayne called out to DJ 45, “We in my hometown! You got some bounce for me?” And later, in his homage to fallen hip-hop icons, Wayne called out, “And if you from New Orleans, put your hands up for Soulja Slim,” paying his respect to the late rap star. Nicki Minaj had the audience in a frenzy when, instead of her typical move of choosing an audience member to give a lap dance to, she asked the audience, “So, y’all are Hornets fans? Usually I invite someone from the audience onstage. But today, there’s someone special.” The decibel level in the arena rose exponentially as Chris Paul seemed not too displeased at handling the honors for the night. The famed Hornets point guard sat down with a smile as Nicki did … well, what Nicki does. Young Money was on full display when Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine joined Wayne for “Every Girl.” Ace Hood came out to perform “Hustle Hard,” his single with Wayne. Lil Chuckee, Lil Twist, Gudda, Mack and Millz came out for “Bedrock,” and Birdman graced the stage for a fiery set of “Fire Flame (Remix).” Then Wayne pulled out his final surprise of the night: bringing out Drake for “Miss Me” and “Forever.” Dreezy relished the chance to speak to his New Orleans fans and once more quell any rumors that he was leaving the Young Money family . “I wanna say one very important thing to you before I go,” Drake said. “I wanna let you know that New Orleans was truly the birthplace of my career. Y’all were the first people to f— with my music, and I recognize that. And just know that I’m Young Money forever, and this is my mother—-ing brother, and I love you, man,” he said turning to Wayne. And just to make sure fans knew when to expect that Carter IV album , Weezy made the audience repeat the date back to him. May 16 it is! Rumor Control: Lil Wayne Was NOT Denied A U.K. Visa, He Never Applied For One

As nice as this is he’s sure to have at least some trouble when he DOES actually apply, based on how they’ve treated other rappers. A report that Lil Wayne has been banned from touring the UK and Europe is false, his rep has said. Reports had claimed that Weezy’s British visa was denied due to his criminal record. The 6 Foot, 7 Foot rapper spent eight months in prison last year on weapons charges. But now a spokesperson for the Young Money boss has told our US Team that the star is yet to file a visa application, as no UK dates are confirmed as yet. “No visa was ever filed, nor were there any tour dates announced or tickets sold,” Weezy’s tour rep said. “Lil Wayne is currently headlining his I Am Still Music Tour across the US and Canada with plans to extend the tour through North America this summer. We hope to bring the I Am Still Music Tour to the UK in the latter half of the year.” When Wayne does apply for a UK visa, he is likely to have a battle on his hands as British immigration officials don’t look kindly on criminal convictions. Snoop Dogg was banned from entering the country in 2007 due to drugs and weapons charges and was forced to cancel European tour dates. However, the ban was eventually overturned and he performed at last year’s Glastonbury Festival. All joking aside we hope Wayne gets his visa so that the good “folks” (see, potential baby momma’s) across the pond get a chance to experience Weezy F. Baby in all his felonious splendor…pause. Lil Wayne Hasn’t Applied For Visa, Rep Says

I Am Still Music Tour rep tells MTV News, ‘No visa was ever filed.’ By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne performs on his I Am Still Music Tour Photo: Taylor Hill/ Getty Images Reports that Lil Wayne is banned from touring Europe due to his inability to obtain a travel visa because of his criminal record are false, MTV News has learned. While the eight months Weezy spent in prison will surely be considered when he seeks to enter the United Kingdom to perform, a representative told us the Young Money CEO has not yet applied for a visa. “No visa was ever filed, nor were there any tour dates announced or tickets sold,” a rep from Weezy’s tour told MTV News. “Lil Wayne is currently headlining his I Am Still Music Tour across the U.S. and Canada with plans to extend the tour through North America this summer. We hope to bring the I Am Still Music Tour to the U.K. in the later half of the year.” For now, the domestic leg of the tour is set to end May 1 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. News of Wayne’s intent to extend the tour might affect the talks his current opening act, Nicki Minaj, is having with the Britney Spears camp about joining her Femme Fatale Tour in June. When Wayne does apply for a visa, history might not be on his side. In 2007, Snoop Dogg was denied an entry visa and was forced to cancel British dates of his European One Love Peace Tour . Snoop’s unfriendly treatment stemmed from an altercation in Heathrow Airport the previous year. However, an immigration judge overturned Snoop’s ban the next year. Kush Chronic-les: Weezy Reminisces On His Weed-Flavored Sweat

Weezy wants us to believe he’s happy to be sober by force. He really does. MTV News caught up with Weezy backstage on the kickoff of his “I Am Still Music” tour in Providence, Rhode Island and the New Orleans native addressed questions about his new sober path and how much of a change it is from his wilder days performing under the influence. “Yeah it’s a big difference. I almost jumped in the crowd, “said a relaxed Wayne to our own Sway. “I’m like I’m sober, I’m sweating. I’m tasting my sweat. My sweat taste different. My sweat used to taste like weed. But now it’s just, I’m like I don’t know what it is.” Weezy went on to add, “I’m out there, my eyes big, my eyes all wide. I had threw my glasses, I don’t even need these. I could see everything right now. But yeah man, it’s a great feeling.” Your vision is improved and your sweat tastes different Wayne? Sounds to us like he’s three hours away from a relapse. Source
