We are reportedly down to three for the role of Finnick Odair. With Robert Pattinson (thankfully) out of the running for this key Catching Fire character , E! News claims producers have narrowed their choices down to the following trio: Taylor Kitsch : Beloved Friday Night Lights star who anchored two of the biggest flops in Hollywood history, John Carter and Battleship . Armie Hammer : Oscar nominee and upcoming Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp as Tonto. Garrett Hedlund : Starring opposite Kristen Stewart in On the Road . E! also claims The Hunger Games sequel might go with a relative nobody for Finnick, who is a former winner of the story’s annual competition and possesses both a ridiculously amazing body and a cocky personality. Which of these actors would be best suited for the part?
It’s a trick question! ‘I had this idea that we should come up with a different way of respecting the line,’ director Peter Berg tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Kitsch in “Battleship” Photo: Universal Pictures From the moment Universal announced plans to transform Hasbro’s classic board game Battleship into a full-length feature film , the question weighing on fans’ minds was not necessarily “How will they make that into a movie?” but rather “How will they work in the ‘You sunk my Battleship!’ line?” For those who didn’t grow up playing the game, we’re talking about the classic tagline from Hasbro’s old-school commercials that featured two players calling out targets until one proved victorious with a direct hit on their opponent’s big boat, resulting in one of the most memorable and quotable board-game taglines ever: “You sunk my Battleship!” We’ve made attempts to get various castmembers to spill the beans about the line , but it wasn’t until MTV News caught up with director Peter Berg that we were able to get a definitive answer on the subject — which, in a nutshell, is no, the direct quote is not in the finished film. “We have a version of it, though,” Berg said. “There was a reference to the line: ‘Ain’t gonna sink this Battleship, no way,’ ” he quoted. “We say, ‘No, we ain’t sinking this battleship. ‘ They don’t sink our Battleship. Sorry. Berg said they put a lot of thought into how they could pay homage to the line but ultimately decided it would be best to provide their own spin on it. “We played around. We said the line, we didn’t say the line, and then I had this idea that maybe we should come up with a different way of respecting the line. But you know what? They didn’t sink the Battleship,” he reiterated, adding a “Raging Bull” reference in the process. “It’s like Jake Lomatta said: ‘You [didn’t] get me down, Ray.’ There a lot of ways you could’ve done it; we chose our way.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Battleship.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . I never thought I’d say this after such dubious product partnerships and horrid early reviews , but: I think I’ve found some marketing that might actually make me want to see Battleship ! It’s not from Universal or Hasbro, alas, but it’s not too late for either party to maybe pick it up for the last push ahead of May 18. NextMovie actually designed 10 indie-style posters for this summer’s biggest titles, but I’m fondest of this one, which would go very well next to my rare, Edvard Munch-style reimagining of the terrifying What to Expect When You’re Expecting one-sheet : [ NextMovie ]
Why would a Berkeley grad weed dealer and his ex-Navy SEAL partner take on a Mexican cartel who wants in on their business? To get their kidnapped shared girlfriend back, of course! Since said shared girlfriend is Blake Lively , I can understand why Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch would risk life and limb to fight off Salma Hayek’s gun-wielding goons. I’m not quite as sold on why Oliver Stone would make a movie like this, but after watching the trailer for Savages , hell — I’m in. Let’s catalogue all the things in the first trailer for July 6’s Savages , which debuted on MTV , that are intriguing: – Aaron Johnson’s UC Berkeley white boy dreads, which I might otherwise find unappealing if they weren’t on him and only for like 5 seconds – (Side note: I went to Cal and I never once encountered a pot dealer who looked like Aaron Johnson. Sigh.) – Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch as odd couple bro-buddies – Blake Lively as a woman who is so in love with both Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch she decides she’ll just date them both at the same time in some sort of super progressive three-way relationship – Blake Lively embracing her sensuality and being actually interesting for once (see above) – Salma Hayek’s bangs – Taylor Kitsch stabbing John Travolta out of nowhere – Evil Benicio del Toro literally twirling (okay, nervously stroking) his evil moustache – The return of California surfer-outlaw chic — are skeleton hoods the new President masks? Verdict: Bring on the Johnson-Kitsch sandwich. Official synopsis: Three-time Oscar®-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone returns to the screen with the ferocious thriller Savages, featuring the all-star ensemble cast of Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir. The film is based on Don Winslow’s best-selling crime novel that was named one of The New York Times’ Top 10 Books of 2010. Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry—raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them. When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon — with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta) — wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high stakes, savage battle of wills.

Sullivan Blake Lively and Taylor Kitsch in “Savages” Photo: Universal Pictures On Wednesday, we revealed the first scintillating bits of footage from Oliver Stone ‘s next movie, “Savages,” and if you’re looking for more, you are in luck. We have your exclusive first look at the full trailer for “Savages.” “Savages” is a story about the 99 percent and the one percent. As Blake Lively ‘s O explains, her two boyfriends, Ben and Chon, played by Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch , respectively, represent two halves of a successful drug business. “Ben went to Berkeley and double-majored in business and botany. He takes 99 percent of the violence out of the business. Other one percent? Well, that’s where Chon comes in.” Things are all sunshine and m

“‘People learn through storytelling, and our partnership with [ CSI creator] Anthony Zuiker in the production of Cybergeddon allows us to reach new audiences in a fresh way,’ said Sally Jenkins, Vice President, Worldwide Consumer Marketing at Symantec. ‘Through entertainment and dramatization, Cybergeddon will illuminate the serious issue of how our constantly connected lives can be vulnerable to cybercrime, breaches of online privacy and theft.'” [ Yahoo! ] [Photo: Shutterstock ]
Some years from now, after the dust around the megabudget John Carter debacle settles, and the heads that do wind up rolling in its aftermath come to rest, some expert arbiter of Hollywood travails will survey the carnage and write the definitive tale of what went wrong with Disney and director Andrew Stanton’s sci-fi gamble. And you know what? I’d bet $10 right here and now that the real story won’t deviate much from the one depicted in this no-budget animated retelling. If there’s any justice in the world, Disney’s special-edition DVD/Blu-ray of John Carter will showcase this video among its special features — not so unlike The Battle Over Citizen Kane accompanies its own classic subject. After 10 years of marriage, Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli have called it quits in one of the most unexpected celebrity breakups in recent years. “While we have decided to end our marriage, we both share the same deep love and devotion to our children,” the duo said in a joint statement. “We remain dedicated to raising our three beautiful daughters together. We ask for privacy and respect during this difficult time.” Aside from confirming the sad separation, reps for the couple aren’t commenting on details surrounding the split amid rumors of trouble in paradise. The most fervent speculation of an impending split came last July, with reports claiming the couple had already taken to living separately. In the meantime, while it’s very much unclear when exactly the couple officially parted ways, Garth has already unfollowed Facinelli on Twitter. The Breaking Dawn star and 90210 actress tied the knot in 2001. The now estranged couple are parents to Luca Bella, 14, Lola Ray, 9, and Fiona Eve, 5. Though Facinelli, at least, is already back to (show) business as usual, having accompanied Luca out to last night’s premiere of The Hunger Games . [Photo: WENN.com]
