Taylor Swift: Number-One Mission, Accomplished!

It’s not as extreme as the makeover Lance Bass recently underwent , but Taylor Swift changes her look a bit in the latest issue of Marie Claire . The young singer pulls up her hair and looks more serious than ever in a photo from the magazine. For someone known as much for her smile and bubbly personality as her impressive career so far, this is freaking us out a bit… Inside the issue, Swift talks about her early success and how setting goals for herself was a helpful way of keeping her focus and priorities straight: “I love having a goal, feeling like I’m on a mission. I love trying to beat what I’ve done so far. I knew that everything I wanted to happen could happen in Nashville. So it became my number-one goal to get there somehow.” She’s done more than just get there, that’s for certain. Unfortunately, the city in question is still recovering from massive flooding in April, a situation Taylor has spoken out and prayed over . Katy Perry’s ‘California Gurls’ Rules iTunes Singles Chart

The latest ‘Glee’ soundtrack has a lock on the site’s albums chart. By Gil Kaufman Katy Perry Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ WireImage Though she lost out to Lady Gaga in MTV News’ summer jam 2010 poll , Katy Perry is still off to a pretty good start of the season. With the help of Snoop Dogg , the singer has notched a #1 on the iTunes singles chart for the week ending Monday (May 31) with her song of the summer contender, “California Gurls.” The top of the list, frankly, looks like a who’s who of our summer jam nominees, with B.o.B ‘s “Airplanes” coming in at #2, followed by Usher ‘s “OMG,” Ke$ha ‘s “Your Love Is My Drug,” Eminem ‘s “Not Afraid” and the actual hottest summer jam, Lady Gaga ‘s “Alejandro,” as voted on by MTV.com readers. The rest of the iTunes single chart is rounded out by La Roux ‘s “Bulletproof,” the “Glee” cast cover of Gaga’s “Poker Face,” Travie McCoy ‘s “Billionaire” and Taio Cruz ‘s “Break Your Heart.” Though iTunes does not release sales figures, the picture at the top of the site’s albums chart should be familiar to anyone who saw last week’s Billboard 200 chart, since it’s topped by the third volume of jazz-hands-worthy covers from the “Glee” crew, Glee: The Music, Vol. 3 Showstoppers. Just behind are reunited glam rock survivors Stone Temple Pilots, whose self-titled comeback album will likely top next week’s Billboard tally. Gaga hangs tough at #3 with The Fame ; followed by the Black Keys ‘ Brothers ; the “Sex and the City 2” soundtrack; B.o.B.’s debut, B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray and yet another “Glee” compilation, Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals. The list is rounded out by Distant Relatives, the full album collaboration between rapper Nas and reggae scion Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley , LCD Soundsystem ‘s This Is Happening and Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now. Taylor Lautner Is Les Grossman’s Latest Victim In MTV Movie Awards Promo

For more from the ‘Tropic Thunder’ mega mogul, tune in to MTV this Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. By Kara Warner Tinseltown’s resident “mega mogul” Les Grossman is back with another MTV Movie Awards promo. It seems the “Tropic Thunder” scene-stealer’s VIP clientele is endless. His last spot featured Robert Pattinson , one of the biggest stars in the Movie Awards universe, and in the latest video, Grossman has a chat with the other “Twilight” stud, Taylor Lautner. The video opens with Grossman’s customary method of conversation: laying into an unknown producer with a string of insults and profanity. “Mr. ‘Avatar,’ sugart–s,” he dismisses the minion over his bluetooth headset. “I don’t give a sh– about the laws of physics, because I want it in 4-D! Do it!” Grossman ends the call, then turns his attention to the teen heartthrob. “This is going to be a great show,” he tells Lautner. Looking unaffected by (or used to) Les’ rant, Taylor responds, “Les, we already talked about this, remember? My agents told you. That weekend is my best friend’s wedding and I’m the … ” “Best man,” Grossman interjects. “Understood. All cool. Bring in Taylor’s double,” he commands, upon which a stand-in is brought in — a man clearly years older than Lautner swirling a glass of whiskey, dressed in what looks to be a tuxedo he may or may not have slept in the night before. Lautner’s reaction is slightly annoyed. “Nobody’s going to believe this is me,” he says. “I’m sorry, which Taylor said that?” Grossman says, trying to play off the fact that Lautner’s “double” is a joke. He eventually relents and tells the double to “f— off.” “Do you smell that?” Grossman asks, returning his full attention and sinister grin to Lautner. “We just took this sh– to the next level. Pound it out, big guy.” Lautner reluctantly bumps Grossman’s meaty fists. For more of Lautner and Grossman, tune in to the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV! Kanye West Takes On Haters In ‘Power’

‘They say I was the abomination of Obama’s nation,’ West raps on new single. By Shaheem Reid Kanye West Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage While many were sleeping Thursday night, Kanye West was declaring that his hiatus is over as his new single, “Power,” hit the Internet. We haven’t seen much of ‘Ye since he explained why he interrupted Taylor Swift at the 2009 Video Music Awards last September on Jay Leno’s now-defunct prime-time show . West told Leno he was going to take some time off. Indeed he did, but for the past several months, we have been hearing about Kanye working in Hawaii with acclaimed producers such as Pete Rock, Q-Tip and DJ Premier. He was also producing tracks for the likes of Rick Ross and the Clipse. And he recently popped up in New York to preview new songs. While just about everyone who’s worked with him has declined to speak on specifics, people like Preemo and Pharrell Williams have publicly described the supreme boom bap and hard-core hip-hop edge of West’s upcoming album, Good Ass Job. “Power” has the global appeal we’ve come to expect from Kanye. The beat has furious drums and guitars, a bass line that body slams your ears and epic wordplay that lyrically releases his frustration. “I’m living in the 21st Century, doing something mean to it,” he starts off rapping. “Do it better than anybody you ever seen do it/ Screams from the haters, got a nice ring to it/ I guess every superhero need his theme music.” “No one man should have all that power,” he continues on the chorus. “The clock’s ticking/ I just count the hours/ Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power/ Till then f— that!/ The world’s ours.” Then comes the vocal sample of British rock band King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man.” Kanye then directs his attention towards “Saturday Night Live,” which has had no problems making fun of the rapper over the years, especially in the wake of the Taylor Swift incident. “F— ‘SNL’ and the whole cast. Tell ’em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass,” West declares. “More specifically they can kiss my a–hole/ I’m a a–hole?/ You n—as got jokes/You short-minded n—as’ thoughts is Napoleon/ My furs is Mongolian/ My ice brought the goalies in.” As “Power” progresses, the Louis Vuitton Don talks about his hiatus. “I just needed time alone with my own thoughts,” he says. “Got treasures in my mind/ But couldn’t open up my vaults…/ Reality is catching up with me/ Taking my inner child/ I’m fighting for custody.” As “Power” nears a close, Kanye once again talks about being embroiled in controversy but says his fans still love his music. “They say I was the abomination of Obama’s nation/ Well, that’s a pretty bad way to start the conversation,” he opines. “At the end of day, goddammit I know I’m killin’ this sh–/ I know damn well y’all feelin’ this sh–.” Kanye’s label, Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam, has not yet announced a release date for Good Ass Job. Friday Box Office: Robin Hood On Target

Break up Universal! While the beleaguered studio’s Robin Hood may not have been able to notch the No. 1 spot on Friday, It will gladly take a $13 million opening on the way to a likely $36 million weekend. (It will handily break $100 million worldwide). That’s about $10 million off the pace of Iron Man 2 , which suffered a Friday-to-Friday drop of more than 70 percent. Letters to Juliet and Just Wright opened at what you might call “modest” and “soft,” respectively, while A Nightmare on Elm Street closed off the Top 5 for the last time in its lucrative, miserable run. Full figures after the jump.

Charlie St. Cloud Trailer: Zac Efron, Ghost Whisperer

Jennifer Love Hewitt, you’ve got some competition. The trailer for Zac Efron’s new film Charlie St. Cloud has made its way online, and it casts the former Taylor Lautner as a smart, rich, loving, yachting, Stanford-bound mensch who loves to wear sleeveless shirts. Can it get even better for our hero? It can: an accident leaves him able to talk to ghosts. Well, one in particular.
