Fried Beer Is Finally Here

This year at the Sixth Annual Big Tex Choice Awards competition in Texas someone finally hit the nail on the head. Mark Zable has trademarked the name Fried Beer. Well, it seems as though you can fry anything you eat and now drink. You may be asking yourself how in the world Mark Zable came up with this recipe. Does it taste good? “We are able to place beer inside a salty pretzel like dough, and deep fry it. When you take a bite, beer pours out of the inside pocket of dough,” Zable says on his website, friedbeer.net (we are actually salivating at the thought of making these pockets with some of our favorite brews). Zable claims that he cooks the beer snack at a temperature that allows the alcohol to keep its composition and not get “cooked off.” Unlike “fried coke” no beer flavoring is included in the dough. Currently, Zable uses Guinness but might switch to Shiner Bock or a pale ale like Sierra Nevada. Zable had faced adversity prior to this year – past frustrations led him to consult with a food scientist with little luck. After three years of research and development, 2010 brought him success as he finally figured a way to capture the entirety of the beer product through the full frying process. He will not discuss how he has solved the problem. This closely kept secret may have the potential of bringing Zable the riches of life (through his newly filed patent). Craft brewing fans can unite in looking to pair some of these snacks with their local favorites. Although we’re not sure if the treat will be massed produced anytime soon… What do you think? Do you think it’ll be a hit? Look out for our finalists as Labor Day approaches. Two lucky winners will be selected to be allowed to sell their product at the Texas state fair. Your Choice. Your Beer. Drink Up. – Beer Universe http://www.beer-universe.com/beer-education-article/2010-08-30/Fried-Beer-Is-Fin… added by: pjacobs51

China’s Nine-Day Traffic Jam Tops 62 Miles

A traffic jam on the Beijing-Tibet expressway has now entered its ninth day and has grown to over 62 miles in length. This mother-of-all delays has even spawned its own micro-economy of local merchants selling water and food at inflated prices to stranded drivers. Can you imagine how infuriating it must be to see someone leave their blinker on for 9 days? Back To School: Officials Plan To Tag Your Kids With Tracking Devices

American public schools look more like youth internment centers, tracking students as district property, tagged and spied upon like criminals. In California officials are outfitting preschoolers in Contra Costa County with tracking devices they say will save staff time and money. In Texas a judge ordered 22 students at Bryan Highschool to carry GPS tracking devices in the name of preventing truancy. Now in Connecticut officials are considering Considers Tracking Devices for Students. Nearly Half of United States Considering Arizona-Style Immigration Legislation

Twenty-two states are now in the process of drafting or seeking to pass legislation similar to Arizona’s law against illegal immigration. This is occurring despite the fact that the Obama administration has filed a lawsuit against the Arizona law and a federal judge has ruled against portions of that law – a ruling that is now being appealed.   Next month, two Rhode Island state lawmakers, a Democrat and a Republican, will travel to Arizona to speak with Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, local sheriffs, and other officials about how to better craft their own bipartisan immigration bill for Rhode Island, which already has been enforcing some federal immigration laws.    Meanwhile, 11 Republican state lawmakers from Colorado traveled to Arizona this week to meet with officials there on how to craft legislation for the Mile High state.    In addition, Alabama House Republicans announced this week that they would seek to “push an illegal immigration bill similar to the recently approved Arizona law.” This law would “create a new criminal trespass statute that allows local law enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants for simply setting foot in Alabama,” said Alabama’s House Minority Leader Mike Hubbard.    In Florida, proposed legislation against illegal immigration has been retooled to address some concerns raised by a federal judge who blocked the proposed bill, though it would still allow Florida state police to enforce immigration law.    In all, there are 22 states considering copycat legislation from the Arizona law against illegal immigration, according to the  Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee  (ALIPAC), a group that advocates for stricter immigration enforcement. These illegal immigrants, deported to Mexico on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, are shown near the Nogales Port of Entry in Sonora, Mexico. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong)Arizona’s law mirrors federal law. It requires local law enforcement officers during a lawful stop to determine the immigration status of an individual by asking the person to show identification that residents are already required to carry by law; and it authorizes law enforcement to securely transfer verified illegal aliens to federal custody.    The law prohibits racial profiling and gives state residents the right to sue local agencies for not complying with the state law.   In the lawsuit challenging the Arizona law, the Obama administration said the United States should not have a “patchwork” of 50 different immigration laws. In late July, U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton ruled against most of the major elements of the Arizona law, halting their implementation.  That ruling is now in the appeals process.    “We do not expand on federal law,” Florida state Rep. William Snyder, the sponsor of the bill in his state, told CNSNews.com. “We do not change penalties. The goal is not to create a new immigration framework at the state level.”   Snyder, the chairman of the Florida House Criminal Justice Committee, said his staff attorneys have taken the decision by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton into consideration in re-crafting their bill for the next state legislative session.    Snyder said the office of state Attorney General Bill McCollum has reviewed the legislation, as have committee attorneys, and they believe it will withstand a potential legal challenge from the Obama administration.    McCollum, a GOP candidate for governor, supports the legislation. However, Gov. Charlie Crist, a Republican-turned-Independent candidate for U.S. Senate, opposes the proposal.  Alfredo Salas, 28, shows his license Thursday shortly after being pulled over and let off with a warning for a cracked windshield by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office during a crime and immigration sweep. (AP Photo/Amanda Lee Myers)”We will continue to work with the language,” Snyder said.    In Rhode Island, a bill that was introduced late in the session last year, and thus never reached a vote, is expected to be reintroduced in the 2011 session. Its two lead co-sponsors hope to have a bipartisan bill that will withstand a legal challenge after they meet with Arizona officials.    “It exactly mirrors the Arizona law,” Rhode Island state Rep. Peter Palumbo, a Democrat, told CNSNews.com. “We will tweak the bill.”   Palumbo will be going to Arizona with Rhode Island state Rep. Joseph Trillo, a Republican.    Their legislation would essentially codify an existing executive order signed in 2008 by Gov. Donald Carcieri, a Republican, mandating immigration checks on all new state workers and ordering state police to assist federal immigration officials.   This is Carcieri’s final year in office, so Palumbo said it is important to put the force of law behind what has already been Rhode Island policy. State troopers report illegal immigrants they encounter for speeding and other offenses to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office.   Because of the executive order in 2008, corruption was discovered in the Department of Motor Vehicles, with drivers licenses being sold to illegal aliens,  Palumbo said.     In New Jersey, state Rep. Allison Little McHose, a Republican, introduced a series of proposals that focused primarily on requiring employers to verify the legality of workers, and preventing state benefits from going to illegal aliens.    “New Jersey continues to be a sanctuary state for illegals because they know they can come to the state and receive many free benefits, like medical care,” McHose said in a statement. “The benefits may be free for those receiving them, but not the rest of the public because these costs are borne by the taxpayers.”   Other states with proposals that mirror the Arizona law are Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.   “We are very pleased to announce 22 states are now following Arizona’s lead to pass versions of a law that has the support of 60 percent to 81 percent of Americans according to polls,” said ALIPAC President William Gheen in a statement. “State and federal candidates are rushing to display their support for Arizona’s law and immigration enforcement. We will not stop until all American states are protected from this invasion as mandated by the Constitution of the United States.” Crossposted at NB sister site CNS News

Tom DeLay Cleared — N.Y. Times Puts the Story on Page A-18 (Behind Organic Golf Courses)

When former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay announced that the Justice Department was dropping its six-year investigation of his relationship with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, The Washington Post put the news on the front page Tuesday. The New York Times decided that this story was best put on page A-18. The front page of the Times covered flooding in Pakistan, Team Obama’s tough evaluation of offshore drilling permits, and a chilling Rod Nordland story on new public executions by the Taliban in northern Afghanistan. But the front page also offered “Walking in New York? Beware Men Turning Left” and “Exclusive Golf Course Is Also Organic, So a Weed or Two Get In.” At least the Times covered the DeLay story. To date, the newspaper “of record” has not mentioned Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s exclamation last Tuesday that “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican.” The Times was quick to note that DeLay still faces the indictment of Democratic Travis County prosecutor Ronnie Earle from 2005. The caption under DeLay’s picture read “Tom DeLay still faces a trial in Texas on unrelated charges of money laundering and conspiracy.” Reporter Charlie Savage elaborated: Mr. DeLay’s legal troubles are not yet over. He still faces a trial in Texas on unrelated state charges of money laundering and conspiracy in connection with campaign donations during the 2002 election. A trial on those charges, for which he was indicted in 2005, was delayed for years because of an appeal by co-defendants, but a hearing on pretrial motions is scheduled for next week. Savage made no attempt to calculate how much money the federal government has spent investigating DeLay, which was standard operating procedure for the media during Clinton investigations. Instead, Savage reminded the reader of all the prosecutors’ successes: The scandal, which helped Democrats win majorities in Congress in the 2006 election, led to convictions or guilty pleas by two of Mr. DeLay’s former aides; former Representative Bob Ney, Republican of Ohio; two former White House officials; Mr. Abramoff himself; and several other former Congressional aides and lobbyists. Mr. Abramoff was released from prison in June. There were no conservative groups to complain about the partisanship of the process, but Savage did bring in a liberal group (without a label) to lament how it was a malodorous outrage that DeLay hadn’t been jailed: Melanie Sloan, the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a government watchdog group, sharply criticized the Justice Department’s decision to close the investigation into Mr. DeLay’s role without charges. “It’s a sad day for America when one of the most corrupt members to ever walk the halls of Congress gets a free pass,” Ms. Sloan said. “The Justice Department’s decision not to prosecute Mr. DeLay for his actions sends exactly the wrong message to current and future members.” The only supporter of DeLay in the Times piece was DeLay: But Mr. DeLay said that he had done nothing wrong and that his political enemies had spent more than  “criminalization of politics and the politics of personal destruction” that he contended his case exemplified. “The new politics — it’s a decade coming up with “frivolous” ethics charges against him. He denounced the “criminalization of politics and the politics of personal destruction” that he contended his case exemplified. “The new politics — it’s no longer good enough to beat you on policy,” he said. “They have to completely drown you and put you in prison and destroy your family and your reputation and finances, then dance on your grave.”

Trae Tha Truth Gives Back With Trae Day, New Mixtape

‘Sometimes people need a soldier to lean on and give them that hope and motivation,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Trae Tha Truth Photo: ABN Cornerstone Credentials: Trae Tha Truth Trae Tha Truth proudly reps his crew name ABN (that’s A-holes by Nature) but when it comes to the kids, he’s anything but. The Texas truth speaker gives his all. There was footage that Trae showed us personally of him visiting a paralyzed kid in a hospital that had your favorite hip-hop editor turning on the waterworks. The youngster was moved by Trae’s music and started to try to dance. Trae’s fans are gearing up for his proper LP, Tha Truth, but before that, they’ll get a mixtape. He just finished his latest, Can’t Ban Tha Truth. The title has to do with his lawsuit with Radio One, and the content has everything to do with the streets. Look for guest spots from Young Buck and Lupe Fiasco on the project. A few weeks back, Trae held his annual Trae Day event in Houston where he gave back to the kids, with school supplies, carnival rides, immunizations and music. Lupe and Buck were there to support as well, as were Gorilla Zoe, Jody Breeze, NBA star Stephen Jackson, adult-film star Pinky and Yo Gotti. “As soon as we started to perform, it started raining,” Jae Millz recalled. He was there with his Young Money family Lil Chuckee, Lil Twist, Gudda Gudda, Shawt Dog and Shanell. “It started pouring. It was already on and off rain, but we still rocked anyway. Everybody came out to rock for Trae Day. This is big, man. Everybody needs to have a little bit more of this in their state. They out here. [The fans] stood out here in the rain for him. He had a jungle gym, a Ferris wheel, he did this on his own. That’s love. You don’t get too many artists like this. When you come across an artist like this and he rocks with you, you rock with him, you support him. The people stayed. Parking lot still full.” “We do this: rain, sleet or snow,” Yo Gotti laughed about the inclement weather. “Nothing is gonna stop us from doing that. “It’s a good cause,” Gotti added. “He’s been doing [Trae Day] for a few years, for the kids. He’s my homeboy too. He said he’s gonna put it together, he wanted me to come out, I’m here.” “This is one of the most beautiful individuals that I’ve come into contact in the music business,” Lupe Fiasco said. “He’s a trusted friend, partner, family. Anything I can do to show support, especially something as beautiful as Trae Day and what it stands for — getting kids prepared to go back to school, immunizations, HIV testing — that’s what I do. Any time I see somebody do that, I’m on it.” For Trae, he said he tries to make the event bigger every year. “It’s pressure, man. At the end of the day, it makes me proud that even though the rain came out, they stayed out here for the supplies, they stayed out here with the homie,” Trae said. “We got to be able to touch the people, touch their hearts and give them a smile, because that’s what they need. People think it’s about money. … Sometimes people need a soldier to lean on and give them that hope and motivation. So that’s what I do every Trae Day. Even though it’s my holiday, I made it a holiday for the city.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Videos Mixtape Daily: Freddie Gibbs
