Snooki Responds To ‘American Idol’ Shout-Out From Ellen DeGeneres

‘My mom called me screaming,’ ‘Jersey Shore’ star says after Ellen’s ‘poof’ reference. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Adam Abernathy Snooki Photo: MTV News Siobhan Magnus’ dramatic and sinister take on “Paint It Black” on Tuesday’s “American Idol” had Randy Jackson saying the singer looked hot, Simon Cowell calling it the standout performance of the night and Ellen DeGeneres comparing her to a certain pint-size MTV reality star. “Like Snooki’s poof , you just stand out,” the judge declared. Shortly after the show aired, Snooki told MTV News how excited she was about the shout-out and shot a compliment right back at Ellen. “I didn’t watch ‘American Idol,’ but my mom called me screaming. I was like, ‘Why are you screaming?’ She’s like, ‘Ellen DeGeneres just said Snooki.’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s my girl!’ “How many people watch ‘American Idol?’ ” the “Jersey Shore” star asked. “Millions? That’s awesome.” This isn’t the first time a Snooki reference has popped up on network TV. In December, “Saturday Night Live” funnyman Bobby Moynihan donned a wig and some orangey bronzer for a good-natured send-up of Snickers, then reprised the impression in January. Snooki welcomed both the “SNL” parodies and the “Idol” name-check. “Honestly, it’s really, really flattering,” she explained. “I’m so thankful Ellen said something about it. That just shows that you made it. I knew I made it when I was on ‘SNL’ and they did skits about me. They did, like, two of them. You know you’ve made it when they do that.” Snooki and her poof have certainly made it, even if Simon looked a bit confused after Ellen’s comment. Snooki took that reaction in stride as well. “Simon doesn’t know me,” she said with a shrug. “Cool.” Have you used Snooki comparisons in your everyday conversations? Oscars 2010: Reviewing a mediocre Academy Awards telecast (The Star-Ledger)

If you follow me on Twitter, you know most of my thoughts on last night’s Academy Awards telecast. For those who don’t (or for those who want to relive the same complaints 12 hours later), a review of the Oscar show coming up just as soon as I hijack my fellow winner’s speech…

My very own Senator, Mark Begich, is the 50th Senator open to using reconciliation to pass Health Care Reform in this country. Can we get excited yet?

I KNOW that Mark wants to pass this very badly. I spoke to him about that very subject several months ago and he expressed his desire to get the bill passed. He is being very careful, which is called for in the crazy political times we are living in, but he is definitely NOT going to balk if the other 49 senators are ready to do this thing. Thank you for contacting me regarding health care reform. The reconciliation process is a budgetary tool used to address spending and deficit issues with a simple majority vote. The budget reconciliation process has been used 22 times by both parties since 1980. Action to clean up the health reform bill will further reduce the deficit. Comprehensive health care reform has already passed the Senate with 60 votes. If the House passes the Senate bill, the President could sign that version of comprehensive reform into law. I believe reconciliation would only be used as a tool to take out special backroom deals and to eliminate concerns raised by many Alaskans I’ve talked with. The President has proposed narrow changes which I support, including completely closing the coverage gap for seniors’ prescription drugs, eliminating the special Nebraska funding provision, providing additional federal financing to all states to help pay for the expansion of Medicaid, and strengthening the Medicare waste, fraud, and abuse provisions. Again, thank you for contacting me. As the 111th Congress moves forward, please continue to be in touch with your thoughts and concerns. Sincerely, Mark Begich U.S. Senator You can read more by clicking the title and visiting Shannyn’s blog. And by the way speaking of Shannyn, I need to give her a lot of credit for pushing Senator Begich on this issue and repeatedly asking him, both on the radio and in private, what he is going to do. Without Shannyn’s persistence we may still have no idea how Begich was planning to vote. Thank you Shannyn.

Howard Stern: ‘I Won’t Work With DeGeneres Or DioGuardi’ On ‘American Idol’

Radio host says he’ll bring his ‘own people’ on board. By Jocelyn Vena Howard Stern Photo: MTV News Rumors about controversial radio host Howard Stern joining the “American Idol” judges’ table after Simon Cowell’s departure at the end of this season have been swirling for awhile, and Stern has discussed the talk openly on his Sirius Radio show . In his latest bit of “Idol” chatter, the shock jock said that he would only get on board if two judges currently on the show — Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi — were shown the door. “What do you want me to tell you? Listen, I won’t work with Ellen DeGeneres or Kara DioGuardi. If I go to ‘American Idol’, they’re out,” he told New York Post reporter Cindy Adams on Thursday night. “They don’t have an opinion. You gotta be with it, you gotta make the show happen.” Stern, who spoke Adams on the red carpet at the New York City premiere of “Green Zone,” didn’t name potential replacements for DioGuardi and DeGeneres, but he did say he would bring his own people on board. “When I come in there, I’m gonna bring a couple of people — my own people with me — and we’re going to take that show to new heights,” he added. “Someone sings bad, we take the trap door and throw them right down the trap door. I’m going to put an electric dog collar on the contestants, when they screw up I’m going to shock ’em. You understand? We’re going to talk a real show.” Stern also engaged in some public salary negotiations, telling “Entertainment Tonight” how much he thinks he should get paid . “I read in the paper that they want to give me $100 million to judge a karaoke contest, and that seems like pretty good pay for something as dumb as that,” Stern said. He also added his thoughts on DeGeneres’ first week behind the judges’ table. “Ellen has said she won’t work with me, but quite frankly, after watching her on the stupid show, I gotta tell ya, I won’t work with Ellen,’ he said. “She’s out if I come in.” What do you think of Stern’s comments?
