Jay-Z And Kanye’s Watch The Throne Countdown Begins!

With just a week to go until its long-awaited release, we look back on the year-long journey to the Throne. By Rob Markman Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Getty Images The wait is almost over. On August 8, Jay-Z and Kanye West (now collectively known as the Throne ) will drop their long-awaited, full-length album Watch the Throne on iTunes as a digital exclusive, with physical retailers to follow on August 12. It was August 2010 when Kanye first sent the rap world buzzing when he tweeted, “Me and jay bout to drop a 5 song album called ‘Watch the Throne.’ ” By October, that five-song EP had turned into a full-length LP. West confirmed with MTV News ‘ Sway that he and Hov were going all in. Check out exclusive photos of Jay-Z and Kanye West in the studio. “We putting out a whole album now,” ‘Ye said. “We had done five [songs] so far, but then a few of them kind of were out there, and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay,” he chuckled. “But we got some more, and we’re going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we’ll probably be done with the album in a day.” Things didn’t quite work out as planned, or perhaps Kanye overstated things, but the recording took way more than 24 hours. Nevertheless, while on a promo run to promote his book told Sway that he enjoyed working with Kanye and marveled at his growth as a beatmaker and lyricist. “This is another level of that recording,” Hov said. “Because Kanye, I’ve seen him — really, he’s like a brother to me — I’ve seen him from the beginning to where he is now. And to see him as a producer and to see how he’s growing as a producer and as an artist, for me, on another level, it’s enjoyable. I’m watching the guy that I pretty much mentored become his own guy, with his own opinion. It’s fantastic.” Fanatics wouldn’t get their first taste of Watch the Throne until January 2011 when the duo released “H.A.M.,” the Lex Luger-produced energy ball that found ‘Ye and Jay trading braggadocios verses. In the end, however, ‘H.A.M.” wasn’t the big hit that fans and pundits expected. Still, expectations for the album remained high. “There’s songs on there that’s making you go crazy,” Swizz Beatz told MTV News of the project without revealing too much. “That album is amazing, but I have to let those guys talk about that, because that’s their expression. All I can tell you is it passed the bar.” Read MTV News’ first impressions of the album after an exclusive listening session. Anticipation led to multiple rumors about the LP’s release date. First, it was reported that Throne would drop on July 4. Instead, during the Fourth of July weekend, the LP was made available for pre-order . Soon after, an official track list was revealed on Jay’s Life and Times blog. The track list confirmed that Beyonc

Rihanna’s ‘Man Down’ Producers Tease Her Next Album

‘We did two records for her that she really, really loved,’ the Jugganauts producer Verse Simmonds tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Verse Simmonds Photo: MTV News Behind the Beats: Verse Simmonds After finding success crafting the music for Rihanna’s “Man Down,” the production duo known as the Jugganauts — Sham “Sak Pase” Joseph and Verse Simmonds — are looking to recapture the magic on the Bajan beauty’s upcoming sixth album. “From what I understand, she is closing the album up now, and we did two records for her that she really, really loved and I’m really excited about them as well,” Simmonds told Mixtape Daily. “They are records that we wrote and produced as the Jugganauts.” Simmonds is hoping that he and partner Sak Pase land another track on Rihanna’s album. And while he couldn’t confirm the Jugganauts’ contributions will make the final cut, he said was “99.999 percent” certain for now. For those wondering whether the singer’s new tunes will sound anything like the reggae-infused “Man Down,” Simmonds says no. “Nah, definitely not, because we always try to constantly — as producers, as artists — we try to always come with something different, a whole new sound,” he said without elaborating on what that new record would sound like. As far as his chemistry with Sak Pase, with whom he did production work on Jay-Z and Kanye West’s upcoming Watch the Throne album , the two seem to have a pretty organic working relationship. “In the studio, it can go one of two ways: Most times I’m writing and he’s creating the track, and we produce a lot of records like that,” Verse said. “Sometimes it’ll flip; he’ll be writing and I’ll be producing the track so it depends on the vibe, and who comes in there first, who’s got an idea or concept.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Showtime premiered a new trailer for the upcoming Dexter season at Comic-Con last night, just like it has for the past few years. There’s lots of new footage in the trailer, but unfortunately it’s mostly a jumble of quick cuts that fails to set up what the series is aiming at in the next season. At this point I’m worried that the next season will be mostly more of the same for Dexter — a shame, because… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : /Film Discovery Date : 22/07/2011 16:59 Number of articles : 2

Jay-Z Shares Sneak Peek Of Watch The Throne

Hov played more than a dozen tracks from his collabo with Kanye for MTV News on Thursday night. By Alvin Blanco Jay-Z Photo: Scott Wintrow/Getty Images NEW YORK — Jay-Z and Kanye West’s forthcoming album may be called Watch the Throne, but soon enough fans will be listening, not just looking, and it will have been worth the wait. On Thursday night, MTV News was among the shortlist of media outlets invited to get an early listen to power duo’s collaborative project. The listening session was held in the Mercer Hotel, where the New York Post previously reported that parts of the album were recorded. Though it was originally set to begin at 8 p.m., Jay-Z walked into the hotel lobby closer to 9 (word is he was at a Yankees game hoping to see Derek Jeter get his 3,000th hit). The group of journalists followed the rapper up to a suite that had been transformed into a recording studio. Seated in the rear of the room, wearing a Yankees snap-back hat and crisp, white shell-toe Adidas, Hova balanced a MacBook Pro in his lap. After asking those in attendance to introduce themselves, he got right into playing selections from the album, loudly. Standout tracks included a pair of songs that feature Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean . Jay-Z relayed that he reached out to Ocean after hearing his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape and wanted him to contribute to his next solo album. After their initial work went well — Ocean appears on one of two songs Jay-Z revealed he has recorded for the solo LP — Hova invited the crooner to get down on Watch the Throne too. The only other guest on the album is Beyonc

Jay-Z And Kanye’s Watch The Throne Is ‘Ready To Go’

‘They might put it out yesterday,’ G.O.O.D. Music’s CyHi the Prynce jokes to Sway on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images The anticipation for Jay-Z and Kanye West ‘s joint album Watch the Throne coupled with the lack of information surrounding the project has created the perfect storm for rumors. Earlier this month, The Source magazine reported that the album would be dropping July 4. With Independence Day coming in less than a week, those chances are looking as slim as the girl in Calvin Klein pants is. But on Wednesday’s (June 29) episode of “Rap Fix Live,” G.O.O.D. Music artist CyHi the Prynce did give fans a bit of hope. “They are ready to go. Right now, all the music and everything is done,” CyHi told Sway. “But you know my guy — we over here with [Kanye], so ‘Ye is gonna add his last little pizzazz, and it’s going to be ready for you guys soon.” On Tuesday, the Fourth of July speculation continued to swirl as AllHipHop.com ran a rumor report that said that the album will come Monday as a digital-only release to avoid leaks. CyHi would neither confirm nor deny that report, saying he wasn’t privy to that information. “I don’t know the business of the logistics of it,” he said, dodging the question with a veteran’s poise. “Those are the bosses. You never know what they gonna do and how they gonna put it out. They might put it out yesterday. “I don’t know. ‘Ye can do something, and he can just do it how he wanna do it,” CyHi continued. “He can just put it out tomorrow if he wanted to, and that’s what ‘Ye want to do.” Until then, we’ll continue to watch.
