Guy Ritchie on Sherlock Holmes 2, Powerful Friends, Madonna, and His RocknRolla Sequel

The stakes are higher and the villains far more treacherous (Moriarty!), but everything in Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows is of a piece with the 2009 predecessor that introduced Robert Downey Jr. ‘s turn as the titular OCD turn of the century sleuth. For director Guy Ritchie it’s felt like one long evolution from the days of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels ; now, at the helm of his biggest film to date — which features some of the most innovative action sequences of the season — Ritchie is firmly in his wheelhouse. As he told Movieline recently in Los Angeles, “I enjoy playing in a bigger sandbox… and I enjoy having powerful friends to help me manifest a vision.”

Goodbye, Movieline (It’s Been Nice)

It was an early morning yesterday; I was up before the dawn. And I really have enjoyed my stay; but I must be moving on. I bring up “Goodbye Stranger” not as a roundabout way of endearing myself to the more promiscuous readers out there , but to hackily inform you that my time at Movieline has come to an end. I’m very excited to announce that starting next week, I take over as the Vertical Editor at Moviefone — an opportunity that has me levitating three feet off the ground. Let’s have a group hug ahead.

Rosenthal explores in Janie Jones , which stars Abigail Breslin as the titular offspring and Alessandro Nivola as her struggling rocker father.

Watch Movieline Fave Bob Stephenson Bust Paul Rudd in New Our Idiot Brother Clip

If the hideous sweater, disgusting mane, and title didn’t tip you off, Paul Rudd’s character in Our Idiot Brother is supposed to be an idiot.
