A French artist is suing Lady Gaga for plagiarism. Orlan, who’s been active in the French art scene for decades, claims Gaga basically aped her style, and has a list of reasons why this is the case. Notably, Gaga, like Orlan, takes a stage name, and employs visual and conceptual references to Catholic imagery, the human body, and celebrity. That sounds broad, and without a doubt it is. Yet there’s an entire Tumblr dedicated to the similarities between the two, Gagaorlan, and in a 1993 Art in America feature, Orlan is described as such: “Orlan has trafficked in notions of an ambiguous and constantly shifting identity.” “Her actions call into question whether our self-representations conform to an inner reality or whether they are actually carefully contrived falsehoods fabricated for marketing purposes, in the media or in society at large.” “Orlan leaves her background deliberately fuzzy, the better to maintain the anonymity required to project an enigmatic ‘star quality.'” Does sort of ring a bell, doesn’t it? From the Lady Gaga hermaphrodite controversy to Orlan’s elective plastic surgery as “performance art,” one can’t deny there are parallels between them. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (Full Video) From a legal standpoint, Orlan is reportedly focusing on one rather specific image from Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” music video to make her case. The lawsuit mentions an image of Gaga’s severed head in the intro and its resemblance to a 90’s Orlan sculpture, “Femme Avec Tête” (“Woman With Head”). The lawsuit also cites another work of Orlan’s, “Bumpload.” Does she have a case? Clearly there’s a difference here between creating an homage to an iconic work of art and ripping off someone’s work. However, that is oftentimes a very thin line. Orlan seems to think that Gaga’s apparent, repeated references to her work are the latter, and wants 7.5 percent of the profits from her Born This Way album. For her part, Gaga actually talked about Orlan back in 2011, as part of an interview with NME , and basically she said she hadn’t heard of her: “Who’s Orlan?” Gaga asked, grabbing her MacBook as she was asked if that was an influence on her. “Do people think that’s where I got it from?” Upon Googling her, the pop superstar exclaimed, “Oh my gosh. (Gasps) What is that? It’s quite beautiful. That’s weird! (Thinks) It’s very fabulous.” “Well, I’m going to be inspired by her now, thank you!”
Girl Meets World is officially heading to the Disney Channel. The wildly anticipated Boy Meets World spinoff will premiere in 2014, the network announced today, via press release, with executive producer Michael Jacobs saying in a statement: “Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular.” The new series will star Rowan Blanchard as Riley Matthews, the teenage daughter of Cory and Topanga, to be played by a returning Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, respectively. It will be set in New York City, with Cory teaching history at his daughter’s school and Topanga running a pudding shop. According to the official Disney Channel synopsis, the sitcom will follow Riley and her quick-witted friend Maya (played by Sabrina Carpenter) as they “embark on an unforgettable middle school experience.” Look for Rider Strong to maybe guest star on the program, while Teo Halm will play Elliott, Cory and Topanga’s son. Lindsay Lohan was destined for a downward spiral because of her train wreck dad Michael, according to former baseball standout Dwight “Doc” Gooden. The athlete has experience with Lindsay’s dad from their 2011 stint in Celebrity Rehab together, and tells Jim Rome, “He was definitely a head case.” “I can kinda understand why Lindsay has the problems she has.” Doc says Michael Lohan was the most screwed up of his Rehab, but LiLo’s dad says Gooden is just bitter because he recently tried to get him help. Wait, what? Michael tells TMZ , “I am sorry that Dwight is in such a bad place. He used to stay in touch with me but he fell off the wagon and into his dugout mode.” “I am surprised he said that, but maybe it’s because I work in the recovery business,” the father of Lindsay Lohan adds, presumably without irony or sarcasm. “I recently tried to get him to go into treatment. I guess he isn’t throwing strike outs as much as striking out himself. Just another wild pitch!” Good one MiLo. For what it’s worth, sources say Lindsay has been a model rehab patient since she checked in – despite the shenanigans she pulled at the onset.
For the consideration of Emmy voters around the nation, Family Guy has released a new print ad. And it makes those Family Guy quotes uttered every Sunday night seem downright tame by comparison. The campaign takes aim at HBO’s Girls and features the Fox sitcom’s characters posing like Lena Dunham , Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet. But it’s the tagline along the top that really gets your attention: “Here’s a load of comedy to shoot on your chest.” Will voters respond to these racy tactics? Nominations for the 2013 ceremony will be announced on July 18.
Penn Badgley and Zoe Kravitz’s romance is officially a thing of the past. The couple recently ended their two-year relationship, Us says. The Gossip Girl actor, 26, and the After Earth actress, 24, are “all good,” a source says of the exes. “It wasn’t a sad breakup.” So that’s good at least. The couple, who shared an apartment together in NYC, are focused on their careers for the time being. “It just wasn’t working,” the source reiterates. “It really did end on good terms, though.” “They are both at two different stages in their careers,” a source says of Penn and Zoe, despite their chemistry. “They just didn’t have time for each other.” Badgley previously dated his Gossip Girl costar Blake Lively from 2007 to 2010. Zoe was linked to her X-Men: First Class costar Michael Fassbender.
Michael Jackson’s family is outraged and prepared to put forth a united front in opposition to any effort to make Debbie Rowe guardian of Paris Jackson. Rowe, Paris’ biological mother, has not made any move to become her guardian after last week’s suicide attempt, but she’s open to it if Paris wants it. Paris Jackson is having trouble connecting with grandmother Katherine, and recently established a bond with mom Debbie over the last few months. While Paris’ identity crisis and desire to get to know her mother are no doubt genuinely motivated, family members say Debbie’s angle is quite different. Basically, they say she just wants to put herself in the public eye. They point to her statement to the media after the suicide attempt. One source told TMZ, “If her intentions were pure she’d be speaking to the family.” The family will fight Debbie “tooth and nail” if she attempts to secure guardianship of the troubled teen, which is a real possibility, says the gossip site. Their criticism of Rowe is puzzling, however, since Debbie has been laying low for YEARS, even when MJ died and Katherine went missing last year. Moreover, her “statement” about Paris had nothing to do with legal guardianship; Rowe merely confirmed that Paris had in fact attempted suicide. Rowe also received a substantial settlement from Jackson upon their divorce, which hurts the argument that she is solely motivated by fiscal interests. In any case, the judge in the custody case is currently reviewing Katherine Jackson’s guardianship to determine if she’s able to properly care for Paris. If she’s not, Rowe could make a play if Paris is amenable.

Gaga and Kinney, who have been dating for the past two years now, have reportedly hit a rough patch over his blossoming relationship with Diaz. Says a source: “Cameron and Taylor have clicked on set and are getting on really well. They’ve been hanging out and the news has reached Gaga’s camp.” “It’s been a stressful time for Gaga with this on her plate.” Diaz, 40, has reportedly been spending lots of time with Kinney, 31, including trips to cafes and restaurants during breaks in filming of the movie. Taylor even reportedly introduced the star to his family.
