A Lil Positivity: Big Sean Does Good In His Bankrupt Detroit Hood And Delivers School Supplies To Needy Kids

Oh gawd! Big Sean Brings School Supplies To Detroit Via HuffPo reports: It wasn’t surprising that Kanye West protégé and rising star Big Sean inspired this much excitement in Detroit, his hometown. But the location was a bit out of the ordinary — as he made press rounds for his new album, “Hall of Fame,” he spent a good chunk of Thursday afternoon handing out backpacks to kids in a building normally used as a farmers market. A couple thousand students crowded Detroit Public Schools’ back-to-school fair in Eastern Market, where they could learn about careers, play educational games, do science experiments and receive supplies. Organized by the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, new MBA students had just three days after arriving for their first semester to plan the event. “DPS needs this more than anybody,” said Big Sean (real name: Sean Anderson), who recently launched the Sean Anderson Foundation to help young people in Detroit. “Hopefully this is just the first of many events we can do to … help give back.” “I wanted to make sure that when I looked back at my life I did something that I was proud of, that I left a legacy,” he added. “Of course I make a lot of fun music, all sorts of songs, but I’m definitely going to make songs to inspire, to do my part for the community, especially for the kids in Detroit.”

Hate Crimes: Black Texas College Student Hit In The Face With Bleach-Filled Balloon By White Students

White Students Hit Black Student In The Face With Bleach-Filled Balloon A wave of hate-motivated attacks against minority University of Texas students that began last fall is now surfacing again as young black male was recently hit in the face with a bleach-filled balloon by white students who were allegedly aiming to “whiten” with the harmful chemical. via Think Progress On Wednesday, University of Texas student Bryan Davis, who is African American, was struck by a bleach-filled balloon while he was walking to visit a friend in a neighborhood populated by UT students. This attack appears to be part of a chain of similar assaults targeting students of color on the Texas campus. Last October, Austin police launched an investigation into four similar attacks on UT students, all of which targeted Asian or African Americans. The October incidents sparked a wave of protests on Texas’ campus. Davis told the Burnt Orange Report’s Ben Sherman that he doesn’t “feel safe walking around West Campus by myself” after the incident, and worried that incidents such as this one can poison the entire campus. “I talked to my sister an hour ago,” said Davis. “She’s a freshman at Xavier University. I always tease her about how she should come to UT, but when I was talking to her on the phone about it, I was talking about why that was no longer a good idea, for her physical safety. UT is supposed to have the atmosphere of the entire city, it’s supposed to be progressive and forward-thinking, and here we are with hate crimes still taking place.” Sherman also speculates that the purpose of the bleach bombs may be to target students of color with a chemical normally used to “whiten” clothes. This is dangerous and ridiculous. These students should be heavily reprimanded so that this does not continue to happen. SMH. Photo Credit: Facebook/Twitter

The Sloth Foot Struggle: Veterinarian Faces Charges For Practicing On People After Man Loses Three Toes Following Treatment

Veterinarian Faces Charges After Treating A Person Ever been treated by an animal doctor for a foot problem? No? Welp, apparently no one told this guy that it wasn’t the best idea. via Fox News A veterinarian has been charged with practicing medicine on humans without a license after a man said he had to have three toes amputated because of improper care. Greeley detectives wrote Dr. Fran Freemyer a ticket for the misdemeanor on Wednesday after the 58-year-old man told police he went to Northern Colorado Medical Center in late June and doctors said he needed the toes removed. Police Sgt. Susan West said Thursday the man went to the vet with a foot ailment, and the vet gave him ointment. The problem got worse and he went to a hospital.| Freemyer told The Associated Press on Thursday he was treating a dog for skin cancer, and a woman who owned the dog took some of the medicine home and gave it to a neighbor without his knowledge. “I don’t treat people,” Freemyer said. He said the dog, a Jack Russell terrier named “Scooter,” had lesions on his back and he rubbed it with a thick topical ointment and sent the dog home. He said the woman who owns the dog somehow got some of the medicine, and when a neighbor complained of a similar ailment on his foot, the dog owner thought the medicine would help. This whole story sounds shay but, either way, all parties involved are equally idiotic for their actions.  SMH. Shutterstock Continue reading

Animal Behavior: Neighbors Complain The Squeakin’ While They’re Freakin’ Noises From Guinea Pigs At Local Biology Lab Has Reached An Unbearable Volume! [Video]

If you thought bunnies were bad, it turns out freaky group sex having guinea pigs are worse! Via The Local Germany : Münster University’s biology department keeps 13 very vocal male and female guinea pigs together in one big cage outdoors. On it, a sign states “These animals live in non-committal, mixed-gender groups and mate with every possible partner.” The Bild newspaper reported on Friday that the guinea pigs are so noisy – particularly at night – that the institute for neuro- and behavioural biology’s next-door neighbours have filed a complaint at Münster’s administrative court. “The Guinea pigs are unbelievably loud and stink to high heaven. It’s unbearable,” said 69-year-old Pavo R.. On Thursday, a judge confirmed to the paper that the cage was too close to the couple’s house. It is just two meters from where their garden begins. Legally, it should be three meters away. But the institute says the cage can not be moved, and a spokesman from the North Rhine-Westphalian university told Bild that they hoped that “the ruling doesn’t mean the end of their renowned behavioral research.” SMH. This sounds crazy!!!! If you want to hear what guinea pigs “sound like” check out the video below: Now imagine a baker’s dozen of them bad boys getting busy outside your window. Dominican man Geraldo Ramos recently passed out drunk and woke up missing something lost a lot less frequently than one’s car keys, wallet or dignity: His penis. For Discussion: New Study Says Rich College Kids Get More Financial Aid Than Lower Income Students

We thought financial aid was meant to help the kids with no scrilla. Rich Kids Have Edge In College Education According to Today Money College students have a better chance of getting financial aid if they come from affluent backgrounds than if they are lower on the income scale, some new studies show. There is growing evidence that colleges may be offering more scholarship money to wealthy students and less to those truly in need, and by doing so are perhaps closing a door to advancement for many families. A new study by Sallie Mae found that 36 percent of students from wealthy families received scholarships averaging $10,213 for the school year just ended, while 35 percent of students from families earning less than $35,000 a year received scholarships worth an average of $7,237. “With their relentless pursuit of prestige and revenue, the nation’s public and private four-year colleges and universities are in danger of shutting down what has long been a pathway to the middle class,” wrote Stephen Burd, author of the New America study. Why is this happening? For starters, colleges are in a perpetual race to rise in published rankings. Second tier schools are using offers of aid as lures for highly qualified students who might not otherwise attend – even if those students don’t really need the money. Sandy Baum, a senior fellow at George Washington University’s graduate school of education, agrees that colleges are using merit aid in ways that don’t fit the mission of financial aid. But the underlying trends, she says, are complex. Scars from the recession are another issue, Baum says, leaving more students in need of aid. One solution, she says, would be for colleges to lower their tuition and reduce the amount of merit aid they award. With colleges competing for the best students, that shift may be a long time in coming – but “they’re going to have to do something different,” she said. “I have to believe we will evolve in that direction. Student Left in DEA Cell For Days Wins $4M Settlement From U.S.

A college student reached a $4.1 million settlement with the U.S. government after being abandoned in a DEA cell with no food, water or windows for days. Daniel Chong, DEA Reach Settlement Daniel Chong drank his own urine, hallucinated that agents were trying to poison him with gas through vents, and tried to carve a farewell message in his arm. It remained unclear how the situation occurred, and no one has been disciplined, said Eugene Iredale, an attorney for Chong. The DOJ is investigating. “It sounded like it was an accident … a really, really bad, horrible accident,” Chong said, putting it mildly to say the last, after a harrowing ordeal: Chong was taken into custody during a drug raid and placed in the cell in 2012 by a San Diego police officer authorized to perform DEA work on a task force. The officer told Chong he wouldn’t be charged, saying, “Hang tight, we’ll come get you in a minute,” Iredale said … and the door did not open for 4 1/2 days . Why? No one will say publicly, more than a year after the fact. A Justice Department spokeswoman confirmed the settlement was reached for $4.1 million but declined to answer other questions, as did the DEA. Now an economics student at the University of California-San Diego, Chong said he planned to buy his parents a house with the money he receives. Chong was a 23-year-old engineering student when he was at a friend’s house where the DEA found 18,000 ecstasy pills, other drugs and weapons. Chong was there to smoke marijuana, his attorneys said. He and eight other people were taken into custody, but authorities ultimately decided against pursing charges against him after questioning. Chong began to hallucinate on day three in the cell, he recalls. He eventually urinated on a metal bench so he could have something to drink. He also stacked a blanket, his pants and shoes on a bench and tried to reach an overhead sprinkler, futilely swatting at it in an attempt to set it off. Chong said he accepted the possibility of death, biting into his glasses to break them and using a shard of glass to carve “Sorry Mom” onto his arm. Eventually, after screaming and nearly passing out, 5-6 people found him covered in his feces in the cell at the DEA’s San Diego headquarters. Chong was hospitalized for five days, having suffered from dehydration, kidney failure, cramps and a perforated esophagus. He lost 15 pounds. The DEA issued a rare public apology, though it is still unclear what happened. U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA), a ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, on Tuesday renewed his call for the DEA to explain the incident.
