Taylor Swift Tapes Thank-You Message For ‘Mine’ Success

Country/pop star ties a Billboard record with single’s #3 debut. By James Dinh Taylor Swift Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images It’s only been a week since Taylor Swift’s “Mine” hit radio , but the lead single from her new album, Speak Now, is already making a splash on the upcoming Billboard Hot 100 with a #3 debut. According to Billboard, “Mine” makes chart history since Swift is only the second female artist in the history of the Hot 100 chart to debut multiple songs (“Mine” and “Today Was a Fairy Tale”) in the top five during a one-year time frame. Mariah Carey also accomplished this feat with her hits “Fantasy” and “One Sweet Day” in 1995. While “Mine” wasn’t able to dethrone Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie” from the #1 spot, she is on top of the Hot Digital Songs chart with 297,000 in downloads. Swift recorded a video message thanking country radio for all the support, saying, “Konnichiwa! I just wanted to say hi to everybody, all my friends on country radio. I’m about to play for 45,000 people in Japan. Wish me luck. Thank you for the first week. I love you.” Fans will get their first glimpse of Swift performing “Mine” during a pre-recorded performance on the upcoming TV special “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock,” which airs September 1. Swift’s highly anticipated new album is set to hit stores October 25. Are you excited to see Taylor’s upcoming performances and video for “Mine”? Share your thoughts below! Skyline Trailer Affirms That When Aliens Invade, They’ll Pick Los Angeles First

Part of District 9’s novelty came from its setting: While films like Independence Day and the upcoming Battle: Los Angeles posit that invading aliens will choose Los Angeles as their point of first contact, District 9 set its extraterrestrials in South Africa, an immediately refreshing and offbeat choice. Now we’ve got the trailer for the Comic-Con sci-fi vehicle Skyline , and it seems like the aliens are back to their old tricks again.

Exclusive: Young Jeezy Addresses Rick Ross ‘Dis’ Speculation

‘What am I gonna get out of dissing him?’ the Snowman says to MTV News, addressing ‘Death B4 Dishonor’ verse. By Shaheem Reid Young Jeezy and Rick Ross, Atlanta, GA, 10.12.2009 Photo: MTV News We’re not going to make you wait 26 episodes until the season finale to reveal the answer to this cliffhanger. On Monday night, Young Jeezy released “Death B4 Dishonor,” the first song from his upcoming mixtape, 1,000 Grams, Vol. 1. On it, he raps over Rick Ross’ “(B.M.F.) Blowin’ Money Fast” instrumental, which quickly fueled heavy speculation among fans that the Snowman was actually dissing the Bawse. Jeezy settled the question straight-up on Tuesday (August 10). “It’s not a dis,” Jizzle told MTV News via phone from ATL. “First of all, I’m not gonna get nothing out of dissing that guy. That’s one. What am I gonna get out of dissing him? I think sometimes people can read into things too deep. They trippin’ man. They crazy out there. Basically, if homie takes that as a dis, he’s insecure, and anybody else out there who does, they are insecure. “When it comes to that [Black Mafia Family] situation, I’m gonna talk about it a little flyer anyway,” Young added. “I happen to know that situation very well. But basically [‘Death B4 Dishonor’], it’s off a mixtape that’s coming out. My mixtape is coming out on Thursday, it’s called 1,000 Grams. I took all the records I liked and flipped them my way. It’s a gang of records on there like that. It’s like 12 joints, all records that I heard in the club that I like and flipped them my way. While Jeezy doesn’t mention Ross by name on “Death B4 Dishonor,” one of the lines fueling the speculation questions: “How you Blowin’ Money Fast?/ You don’t know the crew/ Oh, you part of the fam?/ Sh–, I never knew.” “That’s for real,” Jeezy explained. “That’s for anybody. I got n—as in prison behind that sh–. I feel that if you speaking on sh–, you gotta at least know who you talking about. That’s like n—as speaking on Cash Money: If he ain’t never been a part of Cash Money, [then] I’mma speak it better if I’m a part of Cash Money. To me, [BMF] was real. I know all the members. Who else would say a line like that, but me? I’m one of the few people who can say that, so I said it. That’s real life, though. You gotta know the crew, baby. I thought that was the purpose of the game: to get on records and talk your sh–, right? “Subliminals, for what?” the Snowman added. ‘What’s understood ain’t gotta be said. I didn’t think people would take the record like that. I did it like I would have any Shawty Lo record, any Rocko record, whoever. I got on [Ross’ beat] and did it like how I do it, the best way I know how. I don’t know if because the BMF situation is for real for me that everybody is like, ‘Ooh. Oh, sh–.’ Twitter is a muthaf—a, by the way.” During our talk, Jeezy said that his song “The Real BMF” had already been recorded (and was sitting in his vault) before Ross’s “(B.M.F.)” was released. “The Real BMF” was supposed to have been included on the upcoming TM103, but once he heard that Ross put out a song so similar, he decided it didn’t belong on his LP; it would just be a giveaway to the streets. Young also described Ross’ “(B.M.F.)” as “dope” and said he was bound to jump on the record one way or another, either officially or through the mixtape circuit, which he ultimately did. On 1,000 Grams, Vol. 1 he also flips Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag” into “Dope Boy Swag” and Kanye West’s “Power” into the record & #8212; so aptly titled for the #1 Trap Star & #8212; “Powder.” Records by the Clipse and Young Money also get their instrumentals borrowed for the tape. “It was one of those things, you get in a zone and wanna get some sh– off,” he said of the DJ Scream-hosted tape. “I wanted to have some fun. Get in the booth, smoke me one or two.” And yes, his long awaited TM103 album is still on the way. He promises it’ll drop before the end of 2011. What do you think of Jeezy’s explanation? He’s being treated for unspecified injuries. There isn’t much detail out there about the rocker — also the ex-husband of pop/punk singer Avril Lavigne — but Sum-41 posted a statement on their website for concerned fans: “It is unfortunate to say, but Deryck Whibley is still in the hospital. He was attacked late last night in Japan. We are waiting for results and we are hoping for the best. Thanks for your support.” According to E! The ailment threatens to mess up his voice permanently, the band said in a statement. “We have been ordered by a physician to cancel a few of our upcoming Vans Warped Tour dates — Chicago, Minneapolis and Kansas City. Deryck has been diagnosed with a serious case of bronchitis, and singing could damage his voice permanently,” the statement read. “The tour has been going amazing so far, and we wish Deryck a speedy recovery so we can continue rocking. ‘The Hills’ Was ‘Not Scripted,’ Kelly Cutrone Says

‘It’s a whole piss-take on everybody going, ‘Is the show scripted?’ ‘ the PR vet and ‘The City’ star insists of finale. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Garth Bardsley and Matt Harper Kelly Cutrone Photo: MTV News Was it real or fake? That’s the question many fans seem to be considering since credits rolled on “The Hills” for the last time on Tuesday night. The show’s creator, Adam DiVello revealed on Thursday (July 15) that the final moment between Brody and Kristin was staged . But a onetime castmember of the hit reality series, PR maven Kelly Cutrone — now on MTV’s “The City” — insists that everything else on the show is for real. “Well, not really, because the show’s not scripted,” Cutrone told MTV News when asked whether fans should now re-think the show given the finale episode. “It’s just not. I’ve been on the show, it’s not scripted. I think it’s a whole piss-take on everybody going, ‘Is the show scripted? Is it not scripted?’ ” Plus, Cutrone said, it was the best possible way to end a show that is, in fact, a reality show. “I mean the show’s got to end somehow, and if the show’s based in reality, how do you end something that’s real? I mean, what do you do? So the whole [thing] was a flip,” she concluded. “I thought it was funny that it ended with Brody!” “Hills” star Lo Bosworth also reacted to the finale (and its implications) on her blog on Thursday. “Don’t worry. It wasn’t fake,” she promised fans on her new site, the Lo Down. “I have never shot any ‘Hills’ scenes on a stage of any kind. Rest assured, we were simply poking fun in the way that our viewers have done since the show began to air. Our show’s undeniable production value sometimes made the validity of it all questionable, but in truth (and this really is the truth), the relationships with those on the show are real.” Meanwhile, show creator DiVello said he felt the ending paid homage to the city that served as its backdrop for six seasons. “We had come up with a bunch of ideas, and then I had this idea to focus it on the Hollywood sign and really just kind of incorporate Hollywood into the ending of it,” he told us. “Our show’s one that’s based in Hollywood and these kids live, work and play here and never, never really kind of acknowledged in the series that Hollywood is where shows are made.” What’s your take on the “Hills” finale? ‘American Idol’ Wannabes Line Up In Nashville

Around 10,000 hopefuls show up for first audition of 10th season, producer says. By Mawuse Ziegbe Photo: FOX As “American Idol” heads into its 10th season, legions of wannabe pop stars have descended on Nashville for a shot at overnight fame. “Idol” supervising producer Patrick Lynn told The Associated Press that around 10,000 people braved the sweltering heat to line up for wristbands Thursday morning (July 15), days before auditions kick off Saturday at the city’s Bridgestone Arena . (According to the show’s website, “Idol” wannabes are not allowed to camp out and must return Saturday with their wristbands.) In addition to the show’s track record for producing pop megastars, there might be an increase of hopefuls for the upcoming season due to the show’s recent change in eligibility guidelines. An “Idol” producer announced in June that the minimum age for contestants had been lowered from 16 to 15 . “A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16,” “American Idol” Executive Producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz said in a statement at the time. “Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.” Lynn conceded that the breakout success of teen phenom Justin Bieber was a factor in the change. The show is also soldiering along without caustic judge Simon Cowell but has yet to announce a replacement. The AP reports that some “Idol” auditioners in Nashville were disappointed that they wouldn’t be subjected to Cowell’s no-nonsense critique, while others were grateful they wouldn’t have to perform for him on the upcoming season. In addition to the show’s current judges — Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres — several celebrities have appeared as guest judges in recent years, including Mary J. Blige and Joe Jonas. The show will head around the country to find the next Idol, and upcoming auditions will take place in several cities, including New Orleans, Austin and San Francisco. Will you miss Simon at the judges’ table? Let us know in the comments! Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
