Trayvon Martin’s Death: A Timeline Of Tragedy

MTV News looks back at the Florida teen’s killing and the month that followed. By Gil Kaufman Trayvon Martin Photo: AP It’s been more than a month since 17-year-old high school student Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by self-appointed neighborhood-watch captain George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida, on February 26. Since the case burst onto the national consciousness over the past month, there have been protests, unending questions about the facts in the incident, a national debate about the wearing of hoodies and plenty of reaction from the hip-hop community about what other issues may be beneath the surface of the shooting. “There is a general understanding from society that the law will work when it is supposed to and, when the facts support one understanding of a crime, that the law will do what it is supposed to do to make sure everyone is vindicated in the way they should be,” said Donald F. Tibbs, associate professor of law at Drexel University’s Earle Mack School of Law. Tibbs, who focuses on the intersection of race, law, civil rights and criminal procedure, told MTV News that one reason the case has created such an uncomfortable feeling for some is that the facts so far seem to suggest that Zimmerman shot an unarmed teen for no apparent reason and that “most people’s sense is that once you kill someone, you’re arrested by the police … [but in this case] he shot and killed someone and the police let him go. Not because of anything we know based on objective evidence, they let him go on his word that he acted in self-defense.” Witnesses have emerged who claim that Martin attacked Zimmerman on the night of the shooting, which police officials have said bolsters their decision not to arrest the shooter. However, others who claim to have seen the alleged scuffle have said Zimmerman appeared unhurt afterward and that they did not see Martin act in an aggressive manner. If that’s all it takes — telling police that you didn’t commit a crime — then Tibbs wondered how anyone gets arrested. Police have the right to arrest someone and prosecutors the right to pursue a case, but, Tibbs said, “It never stops at the very beginning [of the process]. It has to get started before prosecutors stop it.” If Zimmerman were to eventually be charged in the case, Tibbs speculated that he could be hit with first-degree homicide or perhaps manslaughter if there were evidence he fired during the commission of an act in which he was provoked. “People are drawn to this case for a variety of reasons,” he said. “Questions of young black men who are called suspicious for doing nothing but minding their business, police failing to do their job, the racial bias by police officers against a young black man, questions about the criminal justice system not working … people wanting to feel the system of justice is right … [and a sense] that the story Zimmerman is telling just doesn’t sound right.” Here’s a timeline of the events in the Martin case: February 26 : Martin is found shot and killed, with several eyewitnesses telling police they heard a fight, then a cry for help and a gunshot. Zimmerman, 28, is seen standing over Martin’s body while wielding a handgun and reportedly sporting a bloody nose and a wound on the back of his head. Martin is pronounced dead at the scene, and police find no weapons on him, just a bottle of iced tea and a bag of Skittles. Martin claims he killed Martin in self-defense and police do not arrest him or administer a drug or alcohol test. March 9 : Martin’s family demands the release of the 911 tapes and/or the arrest of Zimmerman. A week later, Sanford Police Chief Billy Lee said there was no evidence to dispute Zimmerman’s assertion of self-defense. Police say they could not arrest the shooter because he was protected by the so-called “Stand Your Ground” law that allows Floridians to shoot someone they reasonably believe is threatening them and to stand put and use their weapon in such a situation. March 16 : Public outrage about the case begins to spread as a Change.org petition from Martin’s family asking for Zimmerman to be prosecuted gathers more than 250,000 signatures in its first few days. It currently has more than 2.2 million signatures. March 19 : Martin’s 16-year-old girlfriend tells the family attorney that she was on the phone with Trayvon when Zimmerman began following him and she heard pushing and then the phone line went silent. The U.S. Justice Department launches an investigation into the case. A day later, a Sanford PD spokesperson admits to ABC News that investigators may have overlooked a possible racist remark by Zimmerman — who has a Hispanic mother and white father — during a conversation with dispatchers in the moments before the killing of Martin, who is black. March 21 : Hundreds of people take to the streets of New York calling for justice in the Martin case during a protest dubbed the Million Hoodie March, so named because of Zimmerman’s assertion that his victim looked “suspicious” in his hooded sweatshirt. The protest was attended by Martin’s parents in their first public appearance since the shooting. Once the story began to make national headlines, members of the hip-hop community and artists including Spike Lee, Big Boi, Tichina Arnold, Wyclef Jean and Roots drummer ?uestlove began to rally their social-media followers to express outrage about the shooting. Police Chief Lee gets a “no confidence” vote from the city council on March 21. March 22 : Young Jeezy speaks to MTV News about the Martin killing, saying, “I feel very deeply as a community leader and as a product of my culture … I feel like we all got to get together and stop this, ’cause I have a son his age and I just feel like that could’ve been either of our children.” Police Chief Lee steps down temporarily from his post due to the mounting pressure over the case, and thousands rally in Sanford in an event organized by the Reverend Al Sharpton to demand Zimmerman’s arrest. Compton rapper Game tells MTV News that he believes a deeply rooted racial bias is behind the shooting. “I think that from the beginning of mankind, we as a people have always been targeted,” he said. “For some, reason people don’t think that they need any excuse to kill us, beat us, hit us, run us over, disrespect us or anything like that … I’m far from racist. I’m very educated and intellectual and I understand how life works and how people of all colors exist under the sun, but it just seems like more than not black people are, I don’t know, there’s always some negative occurrence that goes on in our existence. This is just another reminder that stupidity still exists.” March 23 : President Obama calls for an investigation into the incident during a White House press conference. “If I had a son, he would look like Trayvon,” the president said. That same day, 50 schools in Florida hold walkout protests, and ?uestlove goes off on Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera for comments the veteran newsman made in which he said, “I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman.” March 25 : Zimmerman’s friend Joe Oliver says Zimmerman “couldn’t stop crying” after the shooting and was “extremely remorseful” about it. Oliver, who is black, also said he’s never seen evidence that Zimmerman harbors any racial bias. March 26 : Florida rapper Plies releases the tribute single “We Are Trayvon Martin,” featuring the lines, “I never thought wearing no hoodie could cost you your life/ And I never thought you could just kill somebody and get out the same night.” March 27 : Reports emerge that Martin had been suspended from school for possessing a baggie with traces of marijuana before he was shot. Police confirmed that Martin had no juvenile offender record and the victim’s family lashed out at what they said was an attempt to “kill” the teen’s reputation. March 28 : Nas, Killer Mike, Prodigy and Bun B drop in for an episode of “RapFix Live,” and Bun tells host Sway, “This is just another reminder of the world that we live in. … Unfortunately, it takes incidents like this terrible tragic murder of Trayvon Martin to bring this back to America’s consciousness.” Illinois Democratic Representative Bobby Rush is escorted from the floor of the House of Representatives after pulling on a hoodie and sunglasses in honor of Martin. March 29 : Though Zimmerman originally told police that Martin knocked him down with a punch to the nose and then slammed his head repeatedly into the ground, a police surveillance tape emerges from the night Martin was shot and shows no blood or bruises on Zimmerman. His brother, Robert Zimmerman Jr., said medical records will prove his brother was attacked and that his nose was broken by Martin. March 30 : Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett said he overruled local police and prosecutors in ordering the release of the 911 tapes in the case in response to a request from Martin’s family. Aerosmith Nearly Done With Album Due This Summer

Singer Steven Tyler promises to bring ‘a little bit of 1975 back.’ By Gil Kaufman Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler Photo: Getty Images As if guitarist Joe Perry’s surprise “Happy Birthday” serenade to singer and judge Steven Tyler on “American Idol” last week weren’t proof enough that all is good in Aerosmith land, on Wednesday, the veteran rockers confirmed they’re releasing their long-awaited studio album this summer. They didn’t reveal the title of the album, their first featuring new material since 2001’s Just Push Play, but singer Tyler told Reuters that after a few years of turmoil and tension things are (relatively) back to normal. “The camaraderie’s there, there’s some songs that are new rock, and old rock and middle-of-the-road rock, and blues, piano,” he said. “Joe Perry singing a couple of songs, I’m playing the drums, Joey sings, just all kinds of stuff.” Tyler, 64, added that they have re-teamed with longtime producer Jack Douglas in order to bring “a little bit of 1975 back.” Rolling Stone reported that Tyler said the band is two songs from the finish line and some of the titles completed so far include “Legendary Child,” “Beautiful” and “Out Go the Lights.” The release date was not announced, but the band — who arrived at the press conference via motorcycle, a white Lamborghini, taxi and rickshaw — promised to have the disc ready around the time of the kickoff of their recently announced North American “Global Warming” tour, which begins June 16 in Minneapolis. “You’re going to get some new songs from the new album and some old songs from the old albums and you’re going to get new us and old us, and we’re just going to go out and rock your world,” Tyler said. The Boston-bred icons have been trying to get together to record their 15th studio album for several years, but their efforts were interrupted by a variety of ailments, stage accidents involving Tyler (as well as his rehab stint in 2009) and enmity that was stirred up by the singer’s decision to sign on as a judge for “Idol.” But despite the grumbling from Perry when Tyler announced his decision to take a seat next to Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson in 2010, the motor-mouthed vocalist said the exposure has helped the group reach a whole new audience. “The music that we write, fortunately it’s been seductive to all genres of people,” he said. “There’s going to be kids who are going to get introduced to Aerosmith all over again, and there’s a bunch of new music that we’re taking a risk and putting out. It’s kind of futuristic rock, all the way across the board, we’re just good for that.” Related Artists Aerosmith

Gallagher Suffers Second Heart Attack

Seriously, rest up and get better, Gallagher! Just 10 days after being hospitalized and placed in a medically-induced coma as the result of a heart attack in Texas, the veteran comedian suffered yet another one last night, his rep confirms. According to TMZ, Gallagher ran out of his heart medication, felt chest pains coming on again and was rushed to a hospital in Arizona. He’s in stable condition says his rep, who released the following statement: “Gallagher suffered a mild heart attack today at a hospital in Sedona due to complications from his previous heart attack. He is awake and resting comfortably now.” Gallagher initially planned on continuing his tour after the first incident, but then told friends he was retiring from the business. Based on this follow-up hospitalization, it’s clear he’s making the right choice. We wish the watermelon-smashing funny man all the best.

Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons Top MTV’s Musical March Madness

Evanescence and the Black Keys also grab #1 seeds in MMM 2012. Vote for your favorites now! By James Montgomery Photo: MTV News It’s back! MTV’s third annual Musical March Madness tips off today (March 12), pitting the 64 bands that matter most against each other in a bracket-battle to the death (OK, no one actually dies, but we’re rolling here). And like in previous years, your votes determine who advances on — and who will ultimately hoist the big gold trophy when the tournament ends April 3. Can Green Day repeat as MMM champs? Will perennial powerhouses My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds to Mars and Paramore finally make it to the top of the mountain? Or will 2012 bring us another unheralded winner, a la Coheed and Cambria in 2010 ? All of these questions — and more — will be answered in the coming weeks, as the drama and majesty that is Musical March Madness plays out before our very eyes. But enough hyperbole — let’s get to the action! Voting in all first-round matchups is now live in our interactive bracket, and runs until midnight ET Sunday. You can help your favorite band advance by downloading one of our MMM badges below (they look smashing on any social profile), or by spreading the word via Twitter, using the hashtag #MMM . Who will reign supreme? Well, it’s up to you. But let’s take a look at the 64 bands that will compete for the 2012 MMM title! The #1 Seeds The Black Keys: Riding high thanks to back-to-back breakout albums and a sold-out U.S. arena tour, the Keys nab the top seed in the always-competitive Midwest region. Will playing close to their spiritual home of Akron, Ohio, be enough to guide the dynamic duo all the way to the Final Four? They’ll have their work cut out for them, but with their bruising inside-out game and rebound-grabbing prowess (Carney’s height advantage makes him a beast on the boards), they’re poised for a deep tournament run. The Foo Fighters: They grabbed a #1 last year, based on the power and prowl of their Wasting Light album, but were upset in the second round by Disturbed. Now they’re back, with an armload of Grammys and a desire for revenge. Can the Foos run the table in the very dangerous West region? We wouldn’t bet against them, especially given the veteran leadership of floor general Dave Grohl, the man who makes it all happen. He’s like Tyshawn Taylor, only with facial hair. Mumford & Sons: Newcomers to the MMM tourney, Mumford grab the #1 seed in the erudite East region, thanks to the continued success of their Sigh No More album (2011’s best-selling rock album, btw). Sure, they might not be battle-tested, but their combination of speed and strength — and bluegrass leanings — remind us a lot of the Kentucky Wildcats, which could mean they’re bound for greatness this year. As an added bonus, a MMM championship would make for the first time the name “Country Winston Marshall” has ever been engraved on a trophy of any sort. Evanescence: They roared back from a lengthy hiatus with a chart-topping album and a worldwide tour, both of which earn them the top spot in the South region. They’ve shaken off the rust and appear primed for MMM dominance — especially since their global fanbase will be able to vote. Amy Lee is always a threat from behind the arch, but the band’s true strength might lie in man-mountain Terry Balsamo, who can take anybody to the hole. The rare band to combine power and finesse, Evanescence might very well be the team to beat in 2012. Vote for your favorite band, discuss and share on Facebook and Twitter in the MTV Musical March Madness interactive bracket! Midwest The meaty Midwest gets a bracket brimming with meat-and-potatoes rock, topped by the aforementioned Black Keys and bolstered by the likes of #6 Kid Rock, #8 Nickelback, #11 Chevelle and #14 Five Finger Death Punch. The pride of Wisconsin, Bon Iver, is in as the #2, though he faces a tough opening-round opponent in 15th-seeded Sum 41, who shocked the world with their run to the Elite 8 last year. And speaking of previous tourneys, My Chemical Romance — the only band to make the Final Four twice — are in as the #5, and based on their past successes, they might be the team to beat. Also, the Metallica/Guns N’ Roses first-round tilt is sure to be one for the ages. Here’s a look at the opening matchups: (Click the artist name to download their official MMM badge.) (1) Black Keys vs. (16) AWOLNATION (2) Bon Iver vs. (15) Sum 41 (3) Pearl Jam vs. (14) Five Finger Death Punch (4) U2 vs. (13) Modest Mouse (5) My Chemical Romance vs. (12) Death Cab For Cutie (6) Kid Rock vs. (11) Chevelle (7) Metallica vs. (10) Guns N’ Roses (8) Nickelback vs. (9) Rise Against! West For the third year running, the West is most definitely the best — bracket, that is. The Foos sit atop a positively loaded field, with established acts like last year’s champs, Green Day, #2 Red Hot Chili Peppers, #3 Blink-182 and #4 Maroon 5, and a host of hotly tipped newcomers, including #6 Foster the People, #8 Best Coast and #13 Lana Del Rey. Plus Van Halen and No Doubt. We wouldn’t discount 15th-seeded Panic! at the Disco (Elite 8 the two previous years) or tourney-tested Adam Lambert, either. If you’re looking for a dark-horse pick, our money’s on Skrillex, who might not technically rock, but used to front From First to Last, and based on his thunderous live sets, definitely knows how to move folks. The first-round matchups are: (Click the artist name to download their official MMM badge.) (1) Foo Fighters vs. (16) James Durbin (2) Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. (15) Panic! at the Disco (3) Blink-182 vs. (14) Korn (4) Maroon 5 vs. (13) Lana Del Rey (5) Green Day vs. (12) the Decemberists (6) Foster the People vs. (11) Adam Lambert (7) Van Halen vs. (10) No Doubt (8) Best Coast vs. (9) Skrillex East Once again home to both beard-scratchers and fist-pumpers, the East is truly up for grabs. Like we said, Mumford are MMM virgins, and #2 Coldplay have made the tourney twice before, but never got past the second round. The same can be said for perennial MMM underachievers Arcade Fire, who nab a #5 seed, but seem destined for a first-round exit at the hands of tourney powerhouse Tokio Hotel. Also wading into the chaos are #3 Florence and the Machine, #4 Muse and #8 Radiohead, who will battle #9 Bruce Springsteen in the first round. This one might come down to an Elite 8 showdown between Tokio and 2010 champs Coheed and Cambria — then again, we wouldn’t discount the power of Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters, who might help carry Semi Precious Weapons to victory. This region is anyone’s guess, really. The opening matchups are: (Click the artist name to download their official MMM badge.) (1) Mumford & Sons vs. (16) F–ked Up (2) Coldplay vs. (15) Arctic Monkeys (3) Florence and the Machine vs. (14) Refused (4) Muse vs. (13) Gym Class Heroes (5) Arcade Fire vs. (12) Tokio Hotel (6) Fun. vs. (11) Semi Precious Weapons (7) The Shins vs. (10) Coheed and Cambria (8) Radiohead vs. (9) Bruce Springsteen South There’s plenty of home-grown talent on display in the always-treacherous South, topped by Evanescence, #2 Paramore (last year’s MMM runners up) and the third-seeded Kings of Leon. For the second time in three years, My Morning Jacket and the Dave Matthews Band will go head-to-head in the opening round, in what’s sure to be a Birkenstock-burner. Fourth-seeded Jack White draws a tough opponent in #13 Shinedown, and we genuinely have no idea who wins the 7-10 Cage the Elephant/Ke$ha tilt. Also showing up in the South are powerhouses 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park, both of whom are looking to finally make good on previous tournament promises. Will 2012 be their year? Here’s a breakdown of round one: (Click the artist name to download their official MMM badge.) (1) Evanescence vs. (16) Alabama Shakes (2) Paramore vs. (15) Gotye (3) Kings of Leon vs. (14) Phoenix (4) Jack White vs. (13) Shinedown (5) Linkin Park vs. (12) At The Drive In (6) 30 Seconds To Mars vs. (11) Sleigh Bells (7) Cage The Elephant vs. (10) Ke$ha (8) My Morning Jacket vs. (9) Dave Matthews Band MTV’s 2012 Musical March Madness Tournament is underway! Voting in the first round runs until midnight ET on Sunday, March 18, and winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM or by downloading one of our custom badges — but get ready, it’s gonna be a war. Related Videos Get Ready For Musical March Madness! Oscars 2012 Ratings Up From Last Year

Ratings for Sunday night’s telecast up 4 percent over 2011’s show. By Gil Kaufman Meryl Streep and Jean Dujardin backstage at the Academy Awards on Sunday Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images Sometimes “meh” is all you need — especially when you’re following up one of the most reviled Oscar hosting teams in recent memory. That might explain why, despite a night devoid of any major surprises or blockbuster winners, ratings for the 2012 Oscars telecast were up slightly over last year. According to ABC’s preliminary ratings, the Billy Crystal-hosted awards show had a 25.5 rating and 37 share, a 4 percent increase over the 2011 show, which famously bombed thanks to the lack of chemistry between hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway . Crystal’s safe-as-milk ninth go-round as host earned the veteran comedian mostly tepid to negative reviews, but it was enough to boost the big night to one of its best ratings nights since 2007, when the show put up a 27.7 rating and 42 share. The highest-ever Oscar ratings came in 1998, when the global blockbuster “Titanic” helped draw in more than 55 million viewers. Ratings might have been even higher if any of the most-nominated movies had posted solid box-office figures as well. But between them, the leading winners, “The Artist” and “Hugo,” which both reveled in a nostalgic look back at the dawn of the modern movie era, have grossed just over $100 million combined to date. To put that in perspective, popcorn flick “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” which was blanked in three technical categories, brought in nearly that much in its opening weekend. More complete ratings numbers are expected later in the day on Monday (February 27). The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Keep it locked at MTV.com for updates on the night’s big winners and the best red-carpet fashion . Anthony Mackie on Black Cinema: “Our Hustle Is Way Behind”

See the original post:

Anthony Mackie unintentionally created a lingering story when he shared his thoughts about the state of Black cinema. Mackie said that Blacks have not done enough to get their stories told. Speaking with NPR , the New Orleans-bred actor said his statement was “blown completely out of proportion,” but did acknowledge that it “was a bad choice of words by me.” He did, however, echo a similar sentiment, citing the late Don Cornelius , Bill Cosby , and Robert Townsend on using their own money to put their products out there. He said :  ”If you look at all of these people from the analogs of African-American history in entertainment, they gave us a blueprint on how to make money, and how to make it work. And I feel like, you know, you get out in the L.A. life. You’re laying in the sun. You’re being invited to parties. You’re having a good time. You have girlfriends, boyfriends. You have expensive cars. You forget the idea of hustle. And I think right now, our hustle game is way behind.” RELATED POSTS: Anthony Mackie Opens New Bar in Brooklyn Top 5 Black Hollywood Veteran Actors [VIDEOS] Black Film Release Dates For 2012

Sundance 2012: Our Favorite Interviews

Drake and Spike Lee among MTV News’ favorite sit-downs at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. By Josh Wigler, with additional reporting by Josh Horowitz and Sam Hendrick Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg Photo: MTV News The Sundance Film Festival is still raging on in Park City, Utah, but the MTV Movies team is back home safe and sound after a weeklong journey filled with movie screenings and high-profile interviews. If you’re interested in hearing about the films that caught the most buzz at Sundance this year, never fear: We’ve got you covered. But there’s more to enjoy at Sundance than just the movies themselves; there are also interviews with countless actors, filmmakers, musicians and other stars for you to chew on. From the absurdly hilarious to the cool and informative, here are our favorite interviews conducted by MTV News at Sundance this year: 5. AnnaLynne McCord It was the nip slip heard ’round the cyber-world. Weeks ago, “90210” actress AnnaLynne McCord inadvertently posted a photo of herself on Twitter that revealed more than she bargained for. But lest you think she’s embarrassed about the overexposure, think again. “The moral of the story is not to stop taking pictures of yourself naked,” she told MTV News. “We all like being naked. Just make sure that the little bit of your areola isn’t in the picture before you send it to a hundred billion people.” 4. Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones The stars of “Celeste and Jesse Forever” tackle uncomfortable but often funny subject matter in their Sundance indie. In real life, the situation isn’t so different. Samberg and Jones are both hilarious in their regular “SNL” and “Parks & Rec” gigs, and in person, the laughs are there as well — even when it comes to a topic as uncomfortable as Lana Del Ray’s “SNL” collapse . “People gave her a lot of crap. I saw it online. BriWi,” he said when we asked about the incident; BriWi, of course, refers to “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams’ critique of the performance. Try watching the veteran newsman without thinking of him as “BriWi” again. It’s just not possible. 3. Spike Lee The New York filmmaker brought Brooklyn to Park City with his new film “Red Hook Summer,” a spiritually charged drama that takes a dark and unexpected turn before the credits roll. The movie hasn’t been kindly received by all critics, but regardless of reception, Lee’s thought process behind the film was a revelation to hear. “We wanted to make a film about young black kids like ‘Stand by Me,’ ” he said. “I love that film. Where’s the people-of-color version of that film? I’m not saying this is it, but that’s the type of film. … I want to see that. [Writer] James [McBride] and I wanted to see this film in a theater. We wanted the world to see these characters in this isolated part of Brooklyn, Red Hook.” 2. Drake Battling tigers is not always easy. But when you’re Drake, it’s always awesome. The Toronto MC performed at Sundance and spoke with MTV News ahead of the gig, recounting his recent trip to Africa, during which he did battle with a true-blue tiger. We kid you not. “I went on a safari. I got tackled by a tiger. It was crazy,” Drake recounted for MTV’s Sam Hendrick, who mustered the only response humanly possible to such wild and crazy news: “That’s dope!” Co-signed, Sam. 1. Paul Giamatti MTV Movie Brawl 2012 came to a close during our time at Sundance. With hours to go before the polls closed, David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” clinched the win with an absolutely insurmountable lead. One of the film’s many stars, Paul Giamatti, was on the ground in Park City and was happy to accept the top honor on the “Cosmopolis” cast’s behalf. “Holy cow, that’s astounding!” he said upon hearing the news. “The fact of that is amazing. … That’s a really cool thing that it brings that visibility to that movie.” Bonus: Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim Perhaps the greatest of all the interviews we enjoyed at Sundance is one we have yet to unveil: our conversation with the absurd duo behind “Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie.” We cannot verify the film’s actual budget, but our interview with Mr. Heidecker and Mr. Wareheim is worth at least a billion bucks. You’ll see it soon, but for now, some out-of-context teasers: Will Forte. “Filet of fish, no bun.” “Back to you.” If it doesn’t make sense yet, just wait — it’ll be even less clear when the insanity-fueled interview hits the Web. Stay tuned … Stick with the MTV Movies team as we roll out more coverage from the Sundance Film Festival ! Thomas Gold Breaks Down ‘Eyes Wide Open’

Gold exclusively previews his new collaboration with Dirty South and Kate Elsworth. By Akshay Bhansali Thomas Gold Photo: MTV News Veteran DJ/producer Thomas Gold has surged in popularity in the last two years with a series of hits. Solo bangers “Marsch Marsch” and “Agora” are DJ set staples, and Swedish House Mafia fans know Gold’s remixes of Lady Gaga’s “Judas” and Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” can electrify a dance mob. And now, with his “Sing2me” single still on the way, Gold has another hit on his hands with “Eyes Wide Open,” a collaboration with Dirty South and Kate Elsworth that was recently previewed by tastemaker Pete Tong on his BBC Radio 1 show. When Gold was recently in New York, he stopped by MTV News in Times Square to break down the elements of “Eyes Wide Open.” “Dirty South and me, we did a bootleg together,” Gold said. “Dragan (Dirty South) had recorded a vocal with Kate, and we used it for the bootie and we played it out a lot. But in the end we decided to skip the bootleg because we fell in love with the vocal. We both loved it so much that we decided to do a new track around the whole thing.” “Eyes Wide Open,” which will be available for purchase January 23, is an effort Gold feels certainly cements the magic that comes from a Thomas Gold/ Dirty South collabo. “Dragan and me, we had a so much fun working (together),” Gold said. “There’s a great chemistry between us, and we had a good time. We both love the track. I can’t wait to see the reactions on the dance floor.” What do you think of Thomas Gold, Dirty South and Kate Elsworth’s “Eyes Wide Open”? Travis Barker Nude Photos Leak, Drummer Threatens Lawsuit

Travis Barker is doing all he can the public from seeing naked photos of himself and, for that, allow us to say the following to the veteran musician: THANK YOU! A handful of these images broke loose online yesterday morning, leading Barker’s lawyer to fire off a cease and desist letter to any site that posted them. Obtained by TMZ, it reads that the pics were over five years old, private and “never intended for public viewing or to be seen by anyone else.” The letter also threatens anyone who posts them with a lawsuit, deeming the action “unauthorized use of private photos.” Barker’s face is reportedly unseen, but the tattoos make it clear to whom the penis in question belongs. Some sites still have them live, and we’d link over to the shots… but, come on. Does anyone really want to see them? [Photo: WENN.com]
