Wale, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and Daz will also appear on forthcoming album, Spitta tells MTV News By Rob Markman Curren$y Photo: MTV News Throughout his career, Curren$y has kept his collaborations organic, bypassing flavor-of-the-month rap features. And on his upcoming Warner Bros. album The Stoned Immaculate, he will continue to do so, even if the names in the LP’s credits get a little bigger. When the NOLA MC drops his next album later this year, fans can look forward to beats from Pharrell , J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, DJ Toomp and Virginia producer Bink, who famously crafted a number of tracks for Jay-Z’s 2001 classic The Blueprint. “This is a different look than anything I’ve usually done,” Curren$y told MTV News. “Usually I work with one person, or try to keep it to just, like, two producers on a project.” On 2010’s Pilot Talk and Pilot Talk 2, Curren$y worked mostly with Ski Beatz, and on his 2011 Weekend at Burnie’s, he tapped Monsta Beatz to take the production helm. Now Curren$y is ready to branch out. “Bink produced ‘What It Look Like,’ ” Curren$y said in reference to The Stoned Immaculate ‘s first single, featuring Wale. “Pharrell produced a joint for me. Daz did two joints and rapped on one of them for me. “It’s a mutual thing. I only work with people who I have a real conversation with and nothing is forced,” he continued. Curren$y’s not only recruiting big-name producers for his next LP, he also hooked up with some pretty notable MCs. “I got 2 Chainz on my album,” he revealed, noting that he was friends with the Atlanta star back when he used to go by his original rap name in the early 2000s. “Me and 2 Chainz been cool since it was me and Tity Boi was cool.” Now that Curren$y is the head of his own record company, Jet Life Recordings, he feels he has to use his relationships to his advantage. “It’s not that I did different and reached out, I kinda cashed in on my friendships,” he said. “I’m trying to get more attention towards my crew … I have to draw more eyes and play ball to make it easier for everybody else.” Which collaborations do you anticipate most on Curren$y’s The Stoned Immaculate ? Clip for second single off MDNA features Madge getting sexy with male dancers. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna in “Girl Gone Wild” Photo: Interscope Madonna has dropped a video tease for her new single, “Girl Gone Wild.” It’s a black-and-white homage to her wild, sexy days in the ’90s. The fashion video — shot, fittingly enough, by fashion photographers Mert and Marcus, who also did the artwork for MDNA — is fast-paced and full of quick shots of Madonna grinding, smoking, looking longingly out in the distance and being her usual sexy self while clad in chains and latex. It’s intercut with scantily clad male dancers who are seen dancing, touching and kissing one another. It seems that the only girl gone wild in this clip is Madonna. No word on when the full video will drop. “GGW” is the second single off the March 26 album release and features production by Benny Benassi; it was recorded in New York and London. While the album’s first single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” was brighter in the way that songs early in her career were, this song is more like what fans heard during her Confessions on a Dance Floor era. “I think the majority of the record is more action-packed,” Madge teased to MTV News back in January about the highly anticipated LP. “More high-energy.” The album also features production from longtime Madonna pal William Orbit , as well as Demolition Crew, Martin Solveig, Alessandro “Alle” Benassi, Hardy “Indiigo” Muanza and Michael Malih. “With William, I didn’t really have a discussion,” Madonna said of working with Orbit. “We’ve worked on stuff for so many years that we kind of finish each other’s sentences. He knows my taste and what I like.” Related Artists Madonna
Critics are not finding much to praise in film based on Edgar Rice Burroughs hero. By Kevin P. Sullivan Taylor Kitsch in “John Carter” Photo: Disney Disney’s $250 million effort to bring the iconic Edgar Rice Burroughs hero, to the screen is certainly not making critics leap for joy supernaturally high because of differences in gravity. In fact, many have outright damned the film, while others have found a deep and fun love of B-movie and pulp traditions We’ve rounded up a sampling of reviews of “John Carter,” so you’ll know whether to head out to the theater this weekend. The Story “Our hero is John Carter, the Confederate Civil War veteran who strikes gold in the Arizona territory but who is whisked to the planet Barsoom on the flimsiest of pretexts. Barsoom is Mars by another name, and the Virginia-born Carter lands in the middle of another civil war, this one between the Heliumites and the Zondangans. Dejah Thoris, the Heliumite princess known also as ‘the red girl,’ is about to be married off against her will. But love finds a way, and while Taylor Kitsch’s hunky John Carter and Lynn Collins’ dishy princess smolder as effectively as possible under the circumstances, Kitsch in particular seems lost in ways unrelated to his character’s predicament.” — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune Taylor Kitsch “If the movie had a leading actor with the galactic charisma necessary for the task, we might even be talking classic sci-fi. Since it’s impossible to put Harrison Ford into the Wayback Machine, though, we’re stuck with the unfortunately named Taylor Kitsch (TV’s ‘Friday Night Lights’) as John Carter, the burned-out Civil War veteran who finds himself mysteriously transported to the Red Planet while searching for gold in the caves of Arizona. Kitsch is decent company — manly, muscled, noble, sardonic — but there’s nothing unique about him, and we follow him by default.” — Ty Burr, Boston Globe The Backstory “It starts with a great story — of love and politics, time travel and mystical pathways between planets — badly sucked dry. Based on ‘A Princess of Mars,’ the post-Civil War/pre-Tarzan brainchild of arguably one of the most entertaining non-Disney imagineers of all times, Edgar Rice Burroughs, the book and the Barsoom (a.k.a. Mars) series that would follow has been picked over for plot points by Hollywood for years.” — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times The Pixar Connection “The Pixar touch is evident in the precision of the visual detail and in the wit and energy of Michael Giacchino’s score, but the quality control that has been exercised over this project also has a curiously undermining effect. The movie eagerly sells itself as semitrashy, almost-campy fun, but it is so lavish and fussy that you can’t help thinking that it wants to be taken seriously, and therefore you laugh at, rather than with, its mock sublimity.” — A.O. Scott, New York Times The Final Word “The film was directed by Andrew Stanton, whose credits include ‘A Bug’s Life’ (1998), ‘Finding Nemo’ (2003) and ‘WALL-E’ (2008). All three have tight, well-structured plots, and that’s what ‘John Carter’ could use more of. The action sequences are generally well-executed, but they’re too much of a muchness. Does ‘John Carter’ get the job done for the weekend action audience? Yes, I suppose it does.” — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times Check out everything we’ve got on “John Carter.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Newt Gingrich, meanwhile, picks up his home state of Georgia. By Gil Kaufman Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney Photo: Getty Images Republican voters looking for clarity out of Super Tuesday instead got more of the same: a split vote that failed to once and for all give them a runaway presumptive GOP presidential candidate. And though he had a good night, Mitt Romney put a good face on a night of wins and near-wins that once again proved he can’t quite close the deal with the party’s conservative base. Instead, Republicans had both the former Massachusetts governor and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum taking a handful of states each, with the vote in crucial swing state Ohio still too close to call at press time. In that race, Santorum led most of the night, but Romney enjoyed a late surge that could change the equation. At press time, Romney was up by nearly 3,000 votes with 88 percent of precincts counted, leading Santorum 38 percent to 37. However, because the Santorum campaign failed to register for a full slate of delegates in the early, poorly funded days of what once looked like a long-shot bid, even if Santorum ends up on top in the Buckeye State, his margin of victory will be slim enough that he will almost certainly get fewer delegates out of Ohio than Romney. And there is also the possibility that it could be so slim as to trigger a recount. The nail-biter went late into the night for the second-biggest prize in the crucial swing state, where 66 delegates were at stake. Not only is Ohio considered a pivotal state in the general election, but no Republican has made it to the White House without carrying the state in the general election. Romney was hoping that the 10-state contest would help him finally solidify his status as the leading GOP presidential candidate. He did pull off a decisive victory in his home state of Massachusetts, as well as a win in Virginia, where his only opponent was Congressman Ron Paul. For the night, Romney was predicted to win 17 delegates in Vermont, 46 in Virginia and 38 in Massachusetts. He also seemed poised to win Idaho, where he was polling at 78 percent at press time with less than a quarter of precincts reporting. Romney added those wins to previous victories in Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire and Maine. “I’m not gonna let you down. … I’m gonna get this nomination,” Romney said while thanking his home-state supporters for giving him a win. “Tonight we’re doing some counting. We’re counting up the delegates for the convention, and it looks good. And we’re counting down the days until November, and that looks even better.” In a victory he said he needed to secure in order to stay in the mix, former Georgia Congressman and House Speaker Newt Gingrich was able to pull off a big win in Georgia, the state with the day’s richest prize. Though he will share the 76-delegate count with either Romney or Santorum (depending on how much of the vote they end up getting), it was likely enough of a victory to keep the Lazarus-like Gingrich in the hunt and to secure him Secret Service protection as of tomorrow. At press time, he had 47 percent of the vote to Romney’s 26 and Santorum’s 24. It looked, however, to be the only bragging point for the still bluster-filled former congressman. “It’s all right. There are lots of bunny rabbits that run through; I’m just the tortoise,” Gingrich told his supporters in Atlanta after ticking off the gallery of opponents who have crowded him out of the picture over the past year only to fall back again as he pushed ever forward. With 92 percent of the vote in at press time, thanks to his social-conservative bona fides, Santorum was the projected winner in Oklahoma, where he took 34 percent of the vote to Romney’s 28, as well as in Tennessee, where he had a 37 percent to 28 percent advantage over Romney. He also appeared to have triumphed in North Dakota, where he held a large lead with nearly 90 percent of the vote in, besting Ron Paul by a 40 percent to 27 percent margin. “This was a big night tonight. Lots of states — we’re gonna win a few, we’re gonna lose a few,” an upbeat Santorum told a crowd in blue-collar Steubenville, Ohio, earlier in the night. “But as it looks right now, we’re gonna get at least a couple of gold medals and a whole passel full of silver medals.” With his four wins, Santorum upped his total number of W’s so far to eight, including previous victories in Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado. Results from caucuses in Alaska were not available at press time. Just before 11 p.m. ET, The New York Times predicted that Romney had picked up 112 delegates on Tuesday, with Gingrich well behind at 42, Santorum with 38 and Paul with 10. Added to their previous delegate count, that gave Romney an estimated total of 315, Santorum 130, Gingrich 75 and Paul 35. Super Tuesday boasted a total of 419 delegates total, the biggest haul to date in the 2012 GOP race. But as gaudy as that number is, it represents about one-third of all available delegates. The winning candidate will have to roll up 1,144 to secure the nomination and face off against President Obama in November, and with the winner’s circle still overstuffed, that path seems like it will continue to have a number of significant obstacles. Newt Gingrich easily takes a must-win contest in Georgia, while Rick Santorum lands Tennessee. By Gil Kaufman Mitt Romney Photo: Getty Images After all the hype, bluster, lead changes and fretting about low voter turnout , early exit polls revealed that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney had scored three early victories in Super Tuesday ‘s primary races. Romney, who was hoping that the 10-state contest would help him finally solidify his status as the leading GOP presidential candidate, was on track to score a decisive victory in his home state of Massachusetts, as well as a win in Virginia, where his only opponent was Congressman Ron Paul. In that contest, The New York Times was projecting that Romney would secure 59 percent of the vote to Paul’s 41. Romney’s lead in Vermont, however, was slimmer at 39 percent to Paul’s 27 with less than one-quarter of precincts reporting. In a victory he said he needed to secure in order to stay in the mix, former Georgia Congressman and House Speaker Newt Gingrich was able to pull off a big win in Georgia, the state with the day’s richest prize . CNN had Romney at 42 percent to Santorum’s 36 with just a fraction of precincts reporting. Not only is Ohio considered a pivotal state in the general election, but no Republican has made it to the White House without carrying the state in the general election. Santorum appeared to be on the path to winning in Oklahoma, and he’s been declared the winner in Tennessee, which looks like it could be his only walk-off victory of the night. SMH: Marcus Vick is in trouble with the law again. Vick, who like his brother Michael Vick was a Virginia Tech quarterback, but unlike Michael was unsuccessful in the NFL (going undrafted and playing just one game for the Dolphins), had an arrest warrant issued this morning after he failed to turn himself in at the Newport News City Jail, the Daily Press reports. Last week a judge sentenced Marcus Vick to 10 days in jail for contempt of court because he twice failed to appear to answer to a charge of driving on a suspended license. Vick was supposed to turn himself in by 5 p.m. on Monday to begin serving his jail time, but he didn’t show up. In addition to multiple offenses of driving on a suspended license and multiple offenses of failure to appear in court on those charges, Marcus Vick has had a 2006 conviction for disorderly conduct and a 2009 conviction for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. In 2008 he was charged with driving under the influence and eluding police. SMH. Source Photo More On Bossip!
