Pure Comedy: Rick Perry Buys Hundreds Of Florida Voters Breakfast And Still Can’t Beat Herman Cain In “Straw Poll” Vote

These guys… Pizza mogul Herman Cain shocked pundits to win an early test vote in Florida, beating GOP frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. Despite Perry buying hundreds of activists breakfasts on the sidelines before heading to Michigan, he came in second with only 15.4 per cent of the vote. Cain, who owns Godfather’s Pizza, captured 37.1 percent of the vote at Saturday’s Presidency 5 straw poll in Orlando, with Texas Governor Rick Perry coming in second with 15.4 percent. Mitt Romney came in third with 14 percent and Rick Santorum followed with 10.88 percent. While all declared candidates were on the ballot, the first-tier candidates did not compete. Perry bought hundreds of activists’ breakfasts on the sidelines before heading to Michigan. Romney and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota both left Florida before the voting began and their campaigns discounted the straw poll’s role in the campaign. Bachmann finished eighth with 1.51 percent in the straw poll. The results were unlikely to shuffle the campaign’s standings. Instead, they were mostly a popularity contest among the delegates selected by local party organisations. But previous straw polls have predicted the Republican nominee. Ronald Reagan won in 1979, George H.W. Bush in 1987 and Kansas Senator Bob Dole in 1995. The Republican Party of Florida, however, has not organized the test vote in recent years. As much as we hope this doesn’t mean Herman Cain is gonna be the Republican Party’s candidate, it does make for a funny Rick Perry story. Source

Future’s Latest Mixtape Based On A True Story

‘I just wanted to go in and paint the picture for the streets,’ the ‘Tony Montana’ MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Smith Future Photo: MTV News Main Pick Headliner : Future Representing : Atlanta Mixtape : True Story Real Spit : The future is hard to predict, but the mixtape scene down South has long been a crystal ball of sorts when it comes to gauging new rap talent. And if his street buzz is any indication, Atlanta representative Future has plenty of bright days ahead. After establishing his sound on the DJ Scream-hosted 1000 and Dirty Sprite tapes and, of course, on the chorus on YC’s infectious “Racks,” Future has returned with his latest mixtape, True Story. “The mixtape True Story, everything on it from the beginning to the end is based on a very true story, and I just wanted to go in and paint the picture for the streets,” the rapper told Mixtape Daily. Raised in the infamous Zone 6 section of Atlanta, Future found musical inspiration in the form of his cousin Rico Wade of the Dungeon Family (Outkast, Goodie Mob). It was Future’s producer cousin who encouraged him to hone his writing abilities and that support ultimately led to the MC putting out local favorites like “Watch This,” “Yeah, Yeah” and the ladies anthem “Stand.” On True Story, Future puts his pen on full display, crafting catchy hooks over dirty southern bounce beats. The results are enjoyable, the subject matter varied. There’s the strip-club inspired “Magic” and the hustler’s ode, “Tony Montana.” On “Long Time Coming,” Future gets nostalgic and writes a letter to a lost love. Waka Flocka Flame and Scooter assist on the lighthearted “Annoying,” and newly signed G-Unit member Shawty Lo helps out on the lost-homey dedication “Bigger Picture.” While True Story chronicles the rapper’s sometimes difficult come-up, it does provide some hope that the days to come for Future will be worth the struggle. Severus Snape Wins ‘Harry Potter’ World Cup!

Complicated professor takes down Harry’s best friend Ron Weasley for the title of greatest ‘Potter’ character ever. By Eric Ditzian Alan Rickman as Severus Snape Photo: Warner Bros. Sixty-four contestants. Four weeks. More than 7 million votes. And now just one wizard is left standing: Potions master Severus Snape has won MTV News’ “Harry Potter” World Cup ! As announced during our live stream of the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” red-carpet premiere in New York City, Snape bested Ron Weasley to earn the fan-voted title of the greatest character ever in J.K. Rowling’s fantasy series. And it wasn’t even close. Coming off an extraordinary two-match run, in which he smacked down Harry Potter himself and then stormed past Hermione Granger, Snape shot out to an early lead over Weasley and never looked back. Poor Ron — who eked out a hard-fought victory in round three over his brother Fred and barely squeaked past wizard Sirius Black — never really had a chance. He may have been the last of the Big Three to stay alive in the Cup, an impressive achievement in its own right, but there was nothing he could do when facing, in Snape, a character on a sizzling winning streak and possessing perhaps the franchise’s most complex, satisfying arc. Snape began the tournament as a dangerous #2 seed in the Privet Drive bracket. He wasted no time absolutely embarrassing Death Eater spawn Vincent Crabbe, walking away with nearly 98 percent of the vote. From there, he wiped the floor with Professor Flitwick and ran over fan favorite Dobby the House Elf. Even Harry Potter himself presented little challenge for Snape, who seemingly could have sleepwalked through his face-off with the boy wizard and still come out on top. That was some seriously impressive stuff. But he didn’t stop there, going on to best Hermione in the Final Four with almost 63 percent of the vote. So let us all applaud Severus Snape for his epic run and staggering victory in the one-and-only “Harry Potter” World Cup. But while we’re at it, we must applaud everyone who voted (and voted and voted and voted) in the tournament. The fan response to the event was far greater than we could have ever hoped. You guys took on the challenge with gusto and dedication — voting and commenting, tweeting and Facebook updating, campaigning and protesting and celebrating. In the end, your favorite character might not have won, but no one can dispute the singular, staggering popularity of “Harry Potter.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . When we first heard this union protester saying he would rather vote for Castro over a GOP member, we thought he meant ‘vote’ ironically, since, um, the Cuban people don’t exactly get to ‘vote’ for Cuba. But then we remembered, this is Wisconsin–they don’t really do irony. Plus, he doesn’t exactly look like a 20-something Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Big Government Discovery Date : 20/02/2011 17:59 Number of articles : 2

Mya Is Putting Out New Music Again… But It’s Probably Not For You

Now here’s someone who’s dreams of being an R&B chick we can still support! Mya dropped a new promo single called “Fabulous Life” yesterday, and we were a little hyped. Because promo singles usually mean an album is being completed… Then we realized the song was only released on iTunes Japan… Which means her next album, like her last album “Sugar & Spice,” will not be released or promoted in the States. Good thing we have the internet. Check out Mya’s take on “J Pop” music

Diddy Says President Obama Needs To ‘Do Better’

Diddy spent a lot of time getting people to Ci-roc the vote and get president Obama in office. In a recent interview with Source magazine, he weighed in on President Obama’s performance thus far. Our favorite mouthbreather, music mogul Sean Combs, is featured on the Source magazine’s Feb/March 2011 cover. Source: What’s your assessment of President Obama thus far? Diddy: “I love the president like most of us. I just want the president to do better. There’s a difference between us voting for somebody and us believing in somebody. He’s the person that we believed in so I pray night and day that he understands how God ordained his presidency. I feel there was a promise made to God to look after people that was less fortunate, and [many] of those people are African-American…” We wouldn’t consider him a political expert but he’s entitled to his opinion. While he’s giving advice about doing things better, he might want to start with Dirty Money. Source

Lady Gaga, Katy Perry React To ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Repeal

Ellen DeGeneres, Pink and more celebrate historic Senate vote on Twitter. By Mawuse Ziegbe Members of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network join Lady Gaga at the 2010 MTV VMAs Photo: Getty Images The armed forces’ controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy will soon be history. On Saturday (December 18), the Senate voted to repeal the 17-year-old measure that bars openly gay men and women from serving in the military. The bill passed by a 65-31 margin, according to CNN , which included eight republicans and one independent who joined the Democrat-backed initiative. President Obama will sign the bill into law next week. “Today, the Senate has taken an historic step toward ending a policy that undermines our national security while violating the very ideals that our brave men and women in uniform risk their lives to defend. By ending ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ no longer will our nation be denied the service of thousands of patriotic Americans forced to leave the military, despite years of exemplary performance, because they happen to be gay. And no longer will many thousands more be asked to live a lie in order to serve the country they love,” the president said in a statement . Calls to dismantle the policy ramped up this year with stars such as Lady Gaga decrying the measure and demonstrations cropping up around the nation. On Wednesday, the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who had been crusading to end the policy, tweeted to Gaga after the vote, “We did it! #DADT is a thing of the past.” Gaga, who arrived at the 2010 MTV VMAs with openly gay service members who had been discharged or left the military due to the policy, made viral videos and spoke at a September rally calling for the end of DADT, tweeted about her emotional reaction to the vote. “Can’t hold back the tears+pride. We did it!i Our voice was heard + today the Senate REPEALED DADT. A triumph for equality after 17 YEARS,” she wrote . Openly gay talk-show queen Ellen DeGeneres tweeted , “Thank you Senators for pushing us one step closer towards full equality.” Katy Perry showed her support for the repeal of DADT by responding to a missive that fellow songstress Pink retweeted. “SUPPORTING ALL OUR TROOPS!” Perry added to Pink’s retweet, “RT @Pink: Congrats 2 US!!! REPEAL of DADT & 17 years of allowing Human Rights Violations. There’s hope after all!” Former army lieutenant and gay-rights activist Dan Choi, who has called for an end to the policy since he was discharged from service after publicly coming out in 2009, also gave his take on the vote. “Thank you, Democrats, for your leadership,” he tweeted . “There: I said it. Also, thank you 8 Republicans. You’re on the right side of history.” MTV News also caught up with student Bridget Todd , who once questioned President Obama about DADT during the commander-in-chief’s “A Conversation with President Obama” forum in October. Although Todd said she was skeptical of the president’s commitment to ending the policy after the Obama administration asked for stay blocking a judge’s ruling that the measure is unconstitutional, she said the Senate vote has restored some of her faith in the U.S. leader. “I think it’s fantastic. I’m over the moon about it,” Todd said. “It’s sort of strange that it’s 2010 and we’re dealing with this so I’m happy that it’s done, I’m happy that it’s gonna be over with. “I think I said that he displayed an alleged commitment to gay equality,” she continued. “I think that this sort of proves that perhaps he is actually committed to these issues. They’re not just sort of political talking points that you use to get elected — that this is something that he is willing to make happen.” What do you think about the Senate voting to repeal DADT?
