Up until last night, Reed Grimm appeared to be one of the most confident American Idol contestants in recent memory. The guy initially auditioned with the Family Matters theme song , after all. But the season 11 contestant – who grew up on stage, singing alongside his family – showed some panic in Hollywood, as he was told shortly before it was time to perform that he could not sing a capella as he had planned. He had to include the band. Cue a call to Reed’s mother and concern over whether or not he even belonged on the competition… and then cue what we believe to be an Idol first. Has anyone else ever played the drums for an audition before? Grimm did so here, rather well, to boot, earning a comparison from Randy to Casey Abrams. Reed Grimm – “Georgia on My Mind” (American Idol Audition) Reed received approval for the next round, and he’ll join a few other standouts from last night there, including Joshua Ledet, Colton Dixon and Jen Hirsch .
Whether or not you agree with these Gentlemen’s assessment of Valentines’ Day , the fact remains that that annual cavalcade of culturally-mandated romance is almost upon us. And while a fancy French dinner by candlelight sounds pretty romantic, don’t forget that by the time she finishes that third glass of wine and you make it back home, it’ll be sleepy time, not sexy time. So we suggest that this year, you stay home and make a nice dinner for the two of you (be sure to remind her it’s the thought that counts if you’re clueless in the kitchen) before settling in for one of those “chick flicks” you usually hate. That way you’ll be close to the bedroom when those amorous urges strike, and look like a thoughtful dude to boot. What she doesn’t need to know is that these “chick flicks” are all Mr. Skin-approved for maximum ogling potential…just don’t get caught with your jaw on the floor, ok? See Skin Central’s V-Day recommendations after the jump!
Let’s hear it for Gang Grey , which handily sprinted off with first place at the weekend box office while fellow newcomers One For the Money and Man on a Ledge settled a little more quietly into their own top-five niches. A couple of unremarkable holdovers fared not much better, but hey. At least now we can look forward to February! Your Weekend Receipts are here. 1. The Grey Gross: $20,000,000 (new) Screens: 3,185 (PSA $6,279) Weeks: 1 Audiences got behind the Liam Neeson man-against-the-frozen-wild thriller in a big way — a surprisingly big way, if you believe some box-office observers. But come on: Since Taken in 2009, Neeson hasn’t led a wide release that opened below $20,000,000. And he’s only supported in one — The Next Three Days , which bombed out under $7,000,000 in 2010. Give the guy some credit! Big ups as well to distributors Open Road Films, who’ve hopefully shaken off their machismo-factory false start Killer Elite and can move forward accordingly. First start: Getting guys (and their dates) to come out for Super Bowl weekend and hold this movie up in Week Two. Developing… 2. Underworld: Awakening Gross: $12,500,000 ($45,126,000) Screens: 3,078 (PSA $4,061) Weeks: 2 (Change: -50.6%) Actually, 50 percent is a surprisingly low drop for this one against three new wide releases, so hats off to Screen Gems! Place your bets now as to whether or not it has what it takes to beat the franchise’s second installment, Underworld: Evolution , as the series’ highest grosser at $62.3 million. The math says “not likely,” but it’ll be close. 3. One For the Money Gross: $11,750,000 (new) Screens: 2,737 (PSA: $4,293) Weeks: 1 Well, that should just about do it for Katherine Heigl’s plans for a Stephanie Plum franchise. If this was One For the Money , I’d hate to think how the putative sequel, Two For the Dough , would be rebranded. Two For the Oyyy ? Two For Whatever Pocket Change You’ve Got on You ? Two For Anything But Another Katherine Heigl Comedy ? You tell me. 4. Red Tails Gross: $10,400,000 ($33,780,000) Screens: 2,573 (PSA $4,042) Weeks: 2 (Change: -44.6%) Needs more Liam Neeson. 5. Man on a Ledge Gross: $8,300,000 (new) Screens: 2,998 (PSA $2,769) Weeks: 1 Ouch . First the What to Expect When You’re Expecting poster , now this. It just wasn’t Elizabeth Banks’s week. That’ll teach her to take second billing to Sam Worthington. Seriously, Hollywood, stop doing that! [Figures via Box Office Mojo ] Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
This old-a$$ beyotch bumpin’ her gums about Janet??? Aw, HELL naw!! Like the chicken and the egg, nobody really remembers which diva said what first, but Janet Jackson and Madonna have allegedly been feuding for decades now. Whether or not these allegations are true is uncertain. However, just this week, Madonna interviewed with NY1 to promote her Super Bowl half-time show performance as well as her new film set to debut soon, during which she slammed Janet for her prior controversial nip slip seen around the world. When asked whether or not she had any juicy surprises up her sleeve, Madonna responded “I have not mainstreamed and I’m not planning anything naughty. I’m planning something super entertaining.” She then continued on to talk that talk about her fellow chart-topping colleague. “Yep, yep! You don’t have to show nipples to be interesting or and it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re cutting edge if you do right?” That’s a pretty ironic criticism seeing as though Madonna made her whole career off of being naked and being “cutting edge” Source What is behind all of this hate that Madonna has for Janet? Is jealousy afoot? Did Janet take one of Madge’s boy-toys?? Let’s take a look at some interesting pictures of these ladies and their similar styles through the years.
Be sure to watch Mac Miller perform live on ‘NYE in NYC 2012’ on December 31 at 11 p.m. ET on MTV. By Rob Markman Mac Miller Photo: MTV News Mac Miller has had a hell of a year, and the rising rap star from Pittsburgh will cap it all off in Times Square when he rings in 2012 performing on MTV’s “NYE in NYC 2012,” airing live at 11 p.m. ET/10 p.m. CT on December 31. There are only a few more days left in 2011, and yes, anything can happen, but when reflecting back on the year in which he became a star, Mac has one event in particular that he considers a highlight: his November 8 debut album release and the fan reaction that landed him atop the Billboard albums chart a week later, after selling more than 144,000 copies. “The whole album coming out was probably the #1 highlight,” Mac told MTV News of his independently released Blue Slide Park . “I remember putting out the album and being really curious about what critics had to say about it because I felt like I made this album from the heart and it was by far my best work.” Unfortunately for Mac, the album reviews did not satisfy his expectations. To him, it seemed that the critics just didn’t get it, and he began doubting whether or not he put out the right album. That was until his fans reassured him that he made the right move. “All people of all different ages everywhere coming up to me and genuinely telling me how much they like the album,” Mac recalled. “That’s definitely the highlight, seeing this music that I’ve created and just seeing how much more powerful people are than publications. That’s who I make music for.” Watch MTV’s “NYE in NYC 2012,” featuring Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and more, live on December 31 at 11 p.m. ET/10 p.m. CT on MTV! Get ya praise on and get healthy! A new study is saying that people who attend and participate in church frequently are also more likely to have lower blood pressure than those who do not. The study, “The Relationship Between Religious Attendance and Blood Pressure: The Hunt Study,” was conducted by researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. “It is a lot more complex of a relationship than simply going to church and your blood pressure decreasing,” insists co-author Dr. Harold G. Koenig. “If going to church leads you to a deeper relationship with God, as a result a deeper sense of peace and a more loving relationship with your neighbor, then it could indeed affect blood pressure.” Critics (and atheists) however aren’t buying it. “Of course, when people regularly participate in a community, be it church, synagogue, or an atheist club, they are going to be healthier because they have more human interaction and a social support network,” says American Humanist Association executive director of the Roy Speckhardt to the Christian Post. “To measure whether or not churches provide a benefit that atheist clubs do not, a study would have to compare attendance to both instead of just looking at frequency of church attendance.” Authors of the study want to expand their research into other religions including Islam and Judaism. It looks like you may want to hit up that praise house and get your health together. Of course, there’s no exactly link between the two, but it can’t hurt, right? We thought so. Source
