We have an update in the ongoing Ariel Winter saga. With the 14-year old Modern Family actress currently living with her sister – as authorities investigate her mother, Chrystal Workman , regarding charges of abuse – two people close to Winter have spoken out in defense of Workman. In a new court declaration , an ex-babysitter of Ariel’s writes: “As a former licensed in-home daycare provider trained to recognize abuse, I saw no signs nor did I witness abuse of any kind (sexual, physical, or emotional) against Ariel.” Meanwhile, Chrystal’s cousin refers to Workman as “a morally sound, extremely loving and protective parent.” Workman has said this incident stems from her insistence that her daughter NOT date an 18-year old, though other relatives reject Workman’s claim that she once walked in on Ariel and her then-boyfriend in bed. They say Winter is so innocent that her first kiss came on the set of her hit ABC sitcom. It’s a giant mess, especially in light of court transcripts being made public yesterday that detail physical abuse against Workman . Both parties are due in court for another hearing on November 20.
The court transcript from last month’s guardianship hearing – which resulted in a judge decreeing that enough evidence of abuse existed to remove Ariel Winter from the home of her mother – have been made public. And they are very ugly on both sides. According to an attorney for Shanelle Workman (the actress’ sister, who is now caring for Ariel and who left home herself 20 years ago following allegations of abuse against her mom), Chrystal Workman was a “terror on the set of Modern Family ” and was nearly removed on multiple occasions. Moreover, Chrystal “repeatedly slapped, hit and pushed ” Ariel, while Workman’s lawyer added that Chrystal “sexualizes” her child by forcing her to don revealing outfits. In response, Chrystal clearly implied to the judge that her daughter was making up such charges, saying Winter is an “actress so I’m sure she can cry at the drop of a hat.” Shanelle, meanwhile, was present in court and reiterated how Chrystal also abused her as a teenager. Chrystal’s response? Her older child has no credibility because she ran off with a gang member many years ago and crack was once found in her home. It’s a confusing case, it’s a sordid case and, because a 14-year old girl is at the center of it, it’s a very sad case.

We were duped too. A video thought to be linked to Kanye West ‘s Cruel Winter release is, in fact, not his. Director Austin Christianson, who has worked with Wiz Khalifa and Rihanna, said the trailer was made outside of the artist’s G.O.O.D. Music or his label, Def Jam. Late last week, a video circulated via YouTube that appeared to be a follow-up of West’s Cruel Summer project . According to Fuse , the video is actually a concept that had been made public with the aim to work with West and was only intended for him to see, though it made its way into the press around the world. “Without getting into many details, I will say that the trailer was independently made and the video is essentially a concept trailer… It’s used for pitching an idea and/or concept to a client,” Christianson told Fuse. “With that said, the video was being used for pitching purposes and it’s naturally intended only for the client to see.” Apparently Christianson had opted to work with West and decided to reach out to him in a not-so-private way. The brouhaha ramped up when Def Jam denied involvement and the trailer was removed. Mitt’s face must be crunchy… Salt Lake City Tribune Endorses Mitt Romeny Via Salt Lake City Tribune Nowhere has Mitt Romney’s pursuit of the presidency been more warmly welcomed or closely followed than here in Utah. The Republican nominee’s political and religious pedigrees, his adeptly bipartisan governorship of a Democratic state, and his head for business and the bottom line all inspire admiration and hope in our largely Mormon, Republican, business-friendly state. But it was Romney’s singular role in rescuing Utah’s organization of the 2002 Olympics from a cesspool of scandal, and his oversight of the most successful Winter Games on record, that make him the Beehive State’s favorite adopted son. After all, Romney managed to save the state from ignominy, turning the extravaganza into a showcase for the matchless landscapes, volunteerism and efficiency that told the world what is best and most beautiful about Utah and its people. In short, this is the Mitt Romney we knew, or thought we knew, as one of us. Sadly, it is not the only Romney, as his campaign for the White House has made abundantly clear, first in his servile courtship of the tea party in order to win the nomination, and now as the party’s shape-shifting nominee. From his embrace of the party’s radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: “Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?” The evidence suggests no clear answer, or at least one that would survive Romney’s next speech or sound bite. Politicians routinely tailor their words to suit an audience. Romney, though, is shameless, lavishing vastly diverse audiences with words, any words, they would trade their votes to hear. Wow, tough crowd… The newspaper then went on to make a pretty convincing case for why they support President Obama for another term. And what of the president Romney would replace? For four years, President Barack Obama has attempted, with varying degrees of success, to pull the nation out of its worst financial meltdown since the Great Depression, a deepening crisis he inherited the day he took office. In the first months of his presidency, Obama acted decisively to stimulate the economy. His leadership was essential to passage of the badly needed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Though Republicans criticize the stimulus for failing to create jobs, it clearly helped stop the hemorrhaging of public sector jobs. The Utah Legislature used hundreds of millions in stimulus funds to plug holes in the state’s budget. The president also acted wisely to bail out the auto industry, which has since come roaring back. Romney, in so many words, said the carmakers should sink if they can’t swim. High praise for the POTUS. In considering which candidate to endorse, The Salt Lake Tribune editorial board had hoped that Romney would exhibit the same talents for organization, pragmatic problem-solving and inspired leadership that he displayed here more than a decade ago. Instead, we have watched him morph into a friend of the far right, then tack toward the center with breathtaking aplomb. Through a pair of presidential debates, Romney’s domestic agenda remains bereft of detail and worthy of mistrust. Therefore, our endorsement must go to the incumbent, a competent leader who, against tough odds, has guided the country through catastrophe and set a course that, while rocky, is pointing toward a brighter day. The president has earned a second term. Romney, in whatever guise, does not deserve a first. If Money Makin’ Mitt can’t even convince his own people (Mormons) to f**k with him, then he’s got a tough road ahead of him. Image via AP

TLC is on its way to TLC. The network has given the greenlight to Totally T-Boz , a reality show that will chronicle the life of Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins, a member of the 1990s girl group responsible for such hits as “Waterfalls.” Look for the series to focus on the singer’s attempt to reboot her career in Los Angeles after years of rehab from a life-threatening brain tumor. At one point, the artist could neither walk nor talk. “Tionne dominated the charts for years, turning the group TLC into household name, and her personal journey is as fascinating as her professional one,” said Amy Winter, GM, TLC, in a press release. “This series will open the door into T-Boz’s struggles and successes, and the people who are there to support her as she works to make her dreams come true all over again.” Totally T-Boz will air four episodes in early 2013.
