’21 Jump Street’ Characters ‘Complete One Another’

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum talk to MTV News on New Orleans set. By Kevin P. Sullivan, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in “21 Jump Street” Photo: Columbia Pictures You probably know Jonah Hill from his work in comedies like “Superbad” and “Knocked Up,” and Channing Tatum is more at home in action flicks like “G.I. Joe” or “The Eagle.” So, it might surprise you that together, they make the perfect police officer. That’s how it works out in “21 Jump Street,” anyway. The hit crime show from the ’80s is headed for a big-screen reboot next spring with Hill and Tatum starring as two cops recruited to go undercover in a high school. MTV News’ Josh Horowitz traveled to the New Orleans set to catch up with the stars about their relationship to the show and their characters’ dynamic. “We complete one another with our flaws and strengths, basically,” said Hill, who co-wrote the script with Michael Bacall. Hill plays Schmidt, a brilliant young cop who has “a hard time with the courageous and physical issues of being a police officer.” So, he turns to Tatum’s character, Jenko, for help. “[Jenko] is really great at all the physical elements of being a police officer, but his character is really stupid,” Hill said. For Tatum, the experience of making the film was an entirely new one. “I’ve got to be honest: I’m about as ‘fish out of water’ as I can possibly get,” he said, adding that he knew he signed onto the role for a reason. “I signed on for Jonah, and I watched this show growing up, so this is home for me.” Chris Miller, one of the film’s directors, explained that the film version of “21 Jump Street” takes place within the same universe as the original show. “They have recommissioned the old program from the ’80s, ’21 Jump Street,’ where they take young-looking cops, but it’s new characters in the same scenario,” he said. As in every action/comedy, fans might be questioning whether one aspect of the film might overshadow the other. Hill said the tone is clear. “It’s definitely a comedy; you’re going to see a comedy. There’s tons of great jokes,” he said. “It’s really funny, but then, you’re going to see some sh– blow up, and it’s going to look really big and cool.” Check out everything we’ve got on “21 Jump Street.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Nicki Minaj Calls ‘Roman In Moscow’ A ‘Teaser’

‘It’s the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, ‘ Nicki tells MTV News of sassy new single. By Christina Garibaldi Nicki Minaj at the Billboard Women in Music event on Friday Photo: D. Dipasupil/FilmMagic NEW YORK — All the Barbies get ready, Roman is back! Nicki Minaj released “Roman in Moscow” on Friday (December 2), the first track off her sophomore album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. On the brand-new, hard-hitting single, Minaj’s foul-mouthed alter ego Roman Zolanski spits out insults in his rapid-fire flow. It seems safe to say that Roman is fully recharged, and perhaps even taking shots at Nicki’s rival Lil’ Kim . “I told you, bitch, last year / I’m a rap-bitch nightmare / That’s why I call you Buzz Lightyear,” Roman says. ” ‘Cause by the time you start buzzin’, bitch, you gonna have white hair!” MTV News caught up with Minaj at the Billboard Women in Music event on Friday afternoon and she talked to us about the track. ” ‘Roman in Moscow is like a teaser to Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, which will drop on Valentine’s Day,” Minaj said. “When I say it’s a teaser, it’s like a trailer to the movie, it’s like setting the stage and I just wanted to touch the surface. It’s the wackest thing on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. ” On the song, Roman is fired up and wreaking havoc all over Moscow. “Well, he was there [in Moscow] secretly because [alter ego] Martha wanted him to go there, so they put him in this thing with monks and nuns; they were trying to rehabilitate him,” Minaj explained. “But I can’t tell exactly what happened, you’ll just see it in the video format, but let’s just say he got out of there.” Minaj added that the video for “Roman in Moscow” “will be shot real soon.” The MC is also celebrating her four 2012 Grammy nominations, including one for Best New Artist . Taylor Swift Cozies Up To Zach Gilford In ‘Ours’ Video

Taylor’s adorable new kitten Meredith also makes a cameo in just-released Speak Now clip. By Kara Warner Taylor Swift on the set of “Ours” Photo: Big Machine via Instagram That Taylor Swift sure does know how to work the “awww!” effect into her music, and even more so in her sweet and wholesome music videos, with their varying themes on love: whether it be lost, won or rekindled. Her latest clip is for the country-tinged ballad “Ours,” a bonus track from last year’s Speak Now, which debuted Friday evening (December 2) on E! Once again, Swift serves up nearly four minutes of sweetness. The video opens up on a generic office building, in all its beige-toned, boring glory, full of disgruntled employees. Enter a dressed-down Swift wearing very little makeup, slightly frizzy hair and a bland suit and skirt with office-worker-lady-standard sneakers. Throughout her workday, Swift gets jostled around in the elevator, harassed at her desk and defeated by a typically defiant copy machine and passes the time reminiscing about what we assume to be a lost love (played by “Friday Night Lights” cutie Zach Gilford), whom we see in cute flashback videos she plays on her work computer (which features a blink-and-you-miss-it wallpaper picture of Swift’s adorable new kitten, Meredith), then later via her iPad when she’s on the bus. The videos show Swift and Gilford playing in the leaves, snuggling together, Gilford playing with Meredith the scene-stealing kitten, playful wrestling on the couch, etc. As Swift’s workday winds down, she seems to get more smiley and excited, particularly when she leaves for the day, and we soon find out why — her lost love was overseas serving in the military, and she meets him at the airport for an adorably sweet hello-again embrace. As we mentioned before, it’s an “awww!” moment, which makes the video “awww”-dorable. What do you think of Taylor Swift’s latest video? Let us know in the comments below! Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Files Appeal

Murray will represent himself as he contests involuntary manslaughter conviction for which he faces up to four years in state prison. By Kara Warner Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Pool/ Getty Images As expected, Michael Jackson ‘s former doctor Conrad Murray has filed an appeal to challenge his involuntary manslaughter conviction. According to TMZ , Murray filed the petition in pro per, which means he has decided to forego hiring legal representation and represent himself. He reportedly listed “Men’s Central Jail” and his booking number in the space on the appeal document where a lawyer would normally list a firm’s name or contact information. TMZ also reported that although Murray seems to be without a lawyer, he is still in communication with Nareg Gourjian, one of the attorneys who represented him during his manslaughter trial. “This case presents a gold mine of issues for any appellate lawyer,” Gourjian told TMZ. “Dr. Murray is confident that the Court of Appeal will vindicate him.” Following the guilty verdict, Murray’s lead defense lawyer Ed Chernoff told CNN, “What matters most right now is trying to keep Dr. Murray from taking up a prison cell in this community. That’s what we’re focusing on right now, and we’ll deal with an appeal after that.” Murray faces up to four years in state prison on the charge, but because of recent changes in California sentencing laws aimed at reducing prison overcrowding, he is unlikely to spend any time in a state facility. Gourjian has said he expects Murray to spend “maybe a little bit” of time in county jail. Related Videos Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Sentenced Related Artists Michael Jackson

Nicki Minaj’s ‘Roman In Moscow’ Is ‘Bomb’

‘It’s a shut-the-game-down record,’ StreetRunner tells Mixtape Daily about just-released Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded single. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj Photo: Jon Kopaloff/ FilmMagic Behind the Beats: StreetRunner and Sarom Roman is back, and on her new track, Nicki Minaj ‘s alter ego gets into all types of musical mischief. “Roman in Moscow” starts with a maniacal build of piano strikes into a full-on frenzy of thudding drums, spacey synths and crashing symbols. It’s a track befitting the fictional Roman Zolanski, who was once exiled into boarding school, but has since escaped. Credit veteran beatmakers StreetRunner and Sarom for crafting the first peek at the Best New Artist Grammy nominee’s upcoming Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded album. It took a couple of tries, but after about eight different versions of track, the production duo, who exist in a larger crew of boards-men called the Network, finally came up with something that perfectly suited Nicki’s mood. “Once we heard from Nicki’s camp that they were really interested in the track, we had to go back in on it and tailor make it a little more for her,” said StreetRunner, who was nominated for a Grammy this week for his work on Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV . “It took a good eight tries to get it into pocket, but once we got it, we knew it.” The duo submitted the first version of the beat to Team Minaj in October, and by their estimation, it took about a month for them to tweak the instrumental and for Nicki to record her verses. The song was mixed earlier this week and released Friday (December 2) on iTunes. Surprisingly, however, StreetRunner and Sarom didn’t hear the final track until Friday’s release. “Keeping music under wraps right now is very important if you want to avoid it getting leaked,” said Street, who saw a number of tracks he thought he had placed on Weezy’s Tha Carter III illegally released online, then ultimately left on the cutting-room floor. Sarom also lost records that could’ve potentially made Wayne’s 2008 gem, but for him, “Roman in Moscow” was well worth the wait. “Of course she’s gonna go in on every single track, but she just came off on some other sh– today,” he told Mixtape Daily . “I can’t even believe it.” The song definitely isn’t a pop affair. Nicki as Roman leaves behind her cutesy “Super Bass” persona in exchange for something more sinister. She starts off her first verse, “I’m big Willie, no bike gear/ I told you bitches last year, I’m a rap bitch nightmare/ That’s why I call you Buzz Lightyear/ ‘Cause by the time you start buzzin’ bitch, you gonna have white hair.” By the end of her two-verse lyrical triad, Nicki goes on a humorous rant. “Yeah ain’t no motherf—in’ prayers bitch, ain’t no motherf—in’ hook, ain’t no motherf—in’ third motherf—in’ verse,” her potty mouth spews. “Roman’s back, bitch/ I f—ed up your life last year this time, remember that?” Street, who started his career as a DJ, said, “That intro to the first few lines that she says, it’s a shut-the-game-down record. Any DJ who’s on radio and just wants to drop bombs, that intro is gonna happen, bomb.” Share your thoughts on Nicki Minaj’s “Roman in Moscow” in the comments! Eminem Critiques B.o.B’s Strange Clouds

Bobby Ray calls working with Slim Shady, featured on his new E.P.I.C. (Every Play Is Crucial) mixtape, ‘a dream come true.’ By Steven Roberts B.o.B Photo: MTV News B.o.B ‘s first album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, featured plenty of guest appearances, but arguably the biggest was Eminem ‘s feature on “Airplanes Part II.” Em is not exactly ubiquitous, but he found his way onto the up-and-comer’s track. So, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that they’d team up again. When Bobby Ray dropped his newest mixtape, E.P.I.C. (Every Play Is Crucial), seemingly out of nowhere Monday, it featured an older track with Eminem, titled “Things Get Worse.” Though the track leaked in February, B.o.B decided to not let it go to waste. When MTV News caught up with Bob on Tuesday evening, he said the track was recorded in Detroit around the same time as the “Airplanes” sequel. He also said he relished the opportunity to work so closely with two artists — B.o.B is signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle — that were already legends. “Working with artists like Tip and Eminem, you really learn a lot from people who have put out countless albums,” he said. “Being that I’m fresh in the industry and really eager to learn and really show people everything I can do musically, they kind of help me. I remember Tip telling me, ‘I’m with you. I support everything you do.’ ” B.o.B revealed that he and Em have been in touch, and he had a chance to play Slim Shady his new record, Strange Clouds. Bobby Ray said it was still surreal to sit down with Em and have the rapper critique his work, especially since Em has been supportive of what he’s already done. “I grew up listening to Eminem, so to be able to work and get advice on your music from him is a dream come true,” he said. “It was free, a free environment. It really wasn’t rigid, just real free with the music, no ego.” Share your review of B.o.B’s E.P.I.C. (Every Play Is Crucial) mixtape in the comments below! Related Artists Eminem B.o.B

Bad Movies We Love: O

Ralph Fiennes’s sweeping Coriolanus arrives this weekend. See that shit. Fiennes whips up a batch of thundering personal conflict, the kind that made Quiz Show so awesome, and Vanessa Redgrave gives a supporting performance far worthier of an Oscar than her work in Julia . She is angst and fury. She’s like Coriolanus Morissette up there. But if Shakespearean seriousness isn’t your thing, please circle back to 2001 when Mekhi Phifer, Julia Stiles and Josh Hartnett served up a Shakespearean telenovela in O , based on Othello . Hope you like hip-hop, opera and Josh Hartnett’s “evil” face, because this movie is a green-eyed monster that’s trying so hard not to be funny.

SMH… Kimmy Cakes Is Wrong For This One! “The Hump” Is A Homo???

This ish has just gone too far. The latest issue of Star Magazine claims the “real” reason (besides Kim being a spoiled brat who just wanted the wedding, not the goofy a$$ doofus hubby that came with it) is that Kris is not into “Virginia,” and didn’t come anywhere near Kim’s precious cookie after their honeymoon. The irony in all this is that three weeks ago Star was claiming the couple made an adult video during their relationship. SMH. Kim if this is the work of your publicist, it’s time to part ways cuz you are starting to look like a real itchbay with all these “Kris the Villain” stories. SMH. In the meantime the Hump is also getting on with his life. US Weekly reports he’s planning to file separation papers and ask for an annulment: What’s better than a divorce? An annulment. Kris Humphries plans to respond to Kim Kardashian’s Oct. 31 divorce filing with a counterstrike of his own. A rep for the NBA star, 26, confirms to Us Weekly that Humphries will seek a legal separation from Kardashian, 31 — ultimately leading, he hopes, to an annulment of their 72-day union. If Humphries gets his way, the couple will avoid divorce proceedings altogether. Kardashian and Humphries tied the knot Aug. 20 in Montecito, Calif.; an ironclad prenuptial agreement guarantees that the reality starlet will hold onto all moneys earned during their marriage. Humphries, whose prospects have opened once again now that the NBA lockout has ended, recently signed an endorsement deal with Sector watches worth $150,000. Pals told Us that Humphries freeloaded off of his wife and could be downright cruel during their short-lived union.”He belittled her in front of people,” one insider said. “He’d call her stupid. It was truly sickening.” “He tried to control Kim by bringing her down…He would say truly terrible things. One time, he said she had no talent and her fame wouldn’t last.” Worst of all? Humphries even called the star “fat a$$.” Y’all know there is a good lesson in this for all of you right? Can’t turn a ho to a housewife! Check out some shots of Humphries landing in DC looking all sad and stuff with his Mommy! Fame Pictures

Stephen Covey explaining the charactor ethic and the personality ethic

Stephen Covey´s world famous book ‘The seven habits of highly effective people’ is a masterpiece. In this clip Covey explains how the emphasis of human behavior has shifted in the past 80 or so years from a character based, principal driven ethic, based on :- Integrity, Fidelity, Courage, Compassion, Contribution, Responsibility, & Justice. To a personality based ethic concentrating on techniques,( ie on how to look good, how to dress), or in other words, How to create a good image. Although some personality techniques can be very valid, if you don’t possess, as a base, the Character ethic you will not have the power to create enduring effectiveness. Covey explains this very well in this short clip. http://www.youtube.com/v/ACukmJ_5HSo?version=3&f=videos&app=youtube_gdata Continue reading here: Stephen Covey explaining the charactor ethic and the personality ethic

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard Expecting Second Child

Couple have been together since 2002 and have a 5-year-old daughter together. By Jocelyn Vena Maggie Gyllenhaal Photo: Getty Images Actors Maggie Gyllenhaal and hubby Peter Sarsgaard are expanding their family. The couple is expecting their second child together next spring. A rep for Gyllenhaal has confirmed to Usmagazine.com that the couple’s daughter, 5-year-old Ramona, will soon have a baby brother or sister to keep her company. A source said that the actress will “be laying low for a little bit now.” In a previous interview with the magazine, Gyllenhaal admitted it’s not always easy to balance being an actress and being a mom. “I had been so focused on Ramona — and she’s been everything to me — but I’m also an actress. It’s not possible to do it perfectly,” she said. “Being a mom is so present in my mind and my work. It’s the most important thing about me, but next I’d like to play someone who’s not a mother.” Life & Style reported that the couple told friends and family about the pregnancy over the Thanksgiving holiday. Gyllenhaal first had people wondering if she was expecting when she arrived at the Rome Film Festival sporting what appeared to be a baby bump in late October. “Over Thanksgiving weekend, Maggie was telling friends that she’s six months pregnant,” a friend of the actress said. “Her bump is so big!” The friend added, “She’s thrilled to be pregnant! She and Peter have wanted another child for a while. They’re very happy that they’ll have another baby in the house soon.” The couple, together since 2002, tied the knot in 2009 in Italy. As for uncle Jake Gyllenhaal , the friend tells Life & Style that he’s really excited to be an uncle again. “Jake is so happy that she’s pregnant again because he loves kids. Maggie’s said that he’s the best uncle and has done a lot of sweet things for her first child.”
