Pitbull, Marc Anthony Brave Heat In ‘Rain Over Me’ Video

Miami MC joined by Salsa crooner in sexy new clip for Pit’s summer-ready jam. By Jocelyn Vena Pitbull and Marc Anthony in ‘Rain Over Me’ Photo: PoloGrounds It’s a good time to be Pitbull . When he’s not throwing parties with Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer in his “Give Me Everything” video, Pit is busy helping Marc Anthony find his groove in the sexy, sleek new “Rain Over Me” video. The single “Rain Over Me” is off the rapper’s Planet Pit album, which dropped earlier this summer. In the clip, VMA-nominated Pitbull and newly separated Marc Anthony take the party to the only place where it doesn’t rain — the desert. So, sure it doesn’t rain in the desert, but well-tailored suits and pretty ladies (and some product placement) are aplenty in the barren setting. While the guys hang outside in the sweltering heat amid a shack-style location, a group of ladies swim around in a pool elsewhere trying to keep cool as the song’s hot beats play in the background. The conclusion seems to be that if you party hard enough in the desert — and look cool while doing it — you can eventually make it rain. The duo not enjoy the company of beautiful ladies, they eventually find themselves drenched. And there’s really no better way to cool off after all that time in the sun. “Rain Over Me” is just the latest summer jam from the Miami rapper. He recently spoke to MTV News about what makes the perfect summer tune. “People need to escape from everything that’s going on. And … if they’re going to spend the last $20 they made — and they only made $50 for the week — they want to spend it having a good time, not running into drama,” he said. “So I’m more than blessed to be a part of this summer and the great music out there.” And “Rain Over Me” isn’t the first time Pitbull has collaborated with someone in the former Lopez-Anthony household. Earlier this year, he found chart success with J.Lo on her equally club-ready hit “On the Floor.” What do you think of Pit and Marc Anthony’s video? Tell us in the comments! VMA Nominee Leader Katy Perry, By The Numbers

It’s not just those nine VMA nods — it’s been a record-setting year for Katy. By Gil Kaufman Katy Perry Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic There’s no other way to say it: Katy Perry is having a moment. Actually, she’s having 525,600 moments, as in 365 days of record-smashing, parent-upsetting, whipped cream-spurting, alien-loving, Indian wedding-having minutes of awesomeness. And what better way to top it off than with a field-leading nine MTV Video Music Award nominations? Perry leads this year’s field , as well she should, given that her clips for such hits as “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework” and “E.T.” have become modern classics and racked up millions of online views. But the year has been about a whole lot more than gummy video goodness, so we decided to take a look back and crunch some numbers on the Year in Katy: Explore our “Katy Perry: By The Numbers” infographic: 4 million : Number of digital copies Perry’s “E.T.” has sold so far. In fact, it joins her hits “California Gurls,” “Firework,” “Hot N Cold” and “I Kissed a Girl” in reaching that mark. 48 : That’s the record Perry shattered for the most consecutive weeks with a single inside the top 10, beating out Swedish popsters Ace of Base. 2 : Number of beefs Perry got into with Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. Though it was quickly squashed, for a minute it seemed as if the former Christian singer had dissed Gaga’s “Alejandro” video for its use of religious imagery . Months later, Perry denied taking a swipe at Spears over product placement in Britney’s “Hold it Against Me” video. 4 : Perry came this close to making history this summer when it looked like “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” would become the fifth single from Teenage Dream to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. If she had hit the top (she stalled, ironically at #4), she would have become the first female artist to ever have five #1 songs off the same album and the first artist of either gender to do it since Michael Jackson (in the period between 1987 and 1988). 2 : Number of times Perry has appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine since Teenage Dream came out. 17 : Shots of Perry’s nearly naked rear end in the “California Gurls” video . (Not like we sat there and counted or anything.) Billions : Amount of Gummi Bears that Perry offended when she cast some nude, crude and middle-finger-flipping rude candy bears in the “Gurls” video. 9 : record-setting number of weeks Eminem’s Recovery would have spent at #1 had Teenage Dream not rained on its parade. 0 : Total number of celebrities besides Perry who have had their “Sesame Street” bits shelved because they showed too much cleavage. 2 : Number of elephants (Laxmi and Mala) involved in Perry and Russell Brand ‘s wedding in India in October. Also involved in the wedding? Jugglers, acrobats, a drum troupe and traditional Indian Rajasthani folk singers and dancers. 0 : Number of famous couples besides Perry and Brand who have flirted and gone on a date and then gotten married after being introduced at the VMAs . The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Katy Perry And The VMAs: A History

The most-nominated artist of the 2011 show hasn’t taken home a Moonman yet, but she did take home a husband! By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry at 2010 VMAs in Los Angeles Photo: WireImage The 2011 VMAs will honor a number of the year’s best artists, but one very kooky, colorful California Gurl is looking to outshine them all: Katy Perry tops the nominees with a whopping nine nods for “E.T.,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “Teenage Dream” and “Firework.” Perry has yet to win a Moonman, but the show has played an important role in her career and personal life in other interesting ways. “It’s always exciting to be a part of the VMAs because there’s so much spontanaeity,” “I just remember growing up seeing craziness ensued with the VMAs. I wasn’t allowed to see it, but I done watched it!” Back in 2008, Kinga Burza, the director of “I Kissed a Girl,” warned MTV News that Perry would soon be a force to be reckoned with. “She’s fresh, original, intelligent and talented, with a star-like charisma, which will have boys and girls all around the world cooing for more!” Burza said. And she was right. Perry made her VMA debut that year, singing along with the night’s house band, Travis Barker and the late DJ AM . That night, “I Kissed a Girl” was up for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Female Video and Best New Artist. She went home empty-handed, but the show was the first time (and certainly not the last time) that she and host Russell Brand would cross paths. By the time 2009 rolled around, the VMAs were back in New York City, and Perry had become a household name. She was nominated for Best Female Video for “Hot n Cold” and opened the show with a rocking performance of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” alongside Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry. Although she didn’t take any prizes home, she did manage to nab Brand , who hosted the show for a second year. Perry said she saw a different side of the comedian during and after the show. “I really appreciate his sense of humor,” she explained. “It’s real dark, it’s real wrong and it’s really funny.” In 2010, Perry hit the VMAs’ white-hot carpet in Los Angeles and was by then one of the biggest pop stars in the world. Her relationship with Brand had escalated to an engagement, and her sweet and sassy “California Gurls” video , featuring Snoop Dogg, was nominated for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video. “I like the idea of this being like a board game,” she said of the video in 2009. “It’s kind of like Candy Land. That was probably one of my favorite games to play growing up. I like to bring back those pure childhood moments and give them a little bit of a naughty twist, of course!” Perry is coming up on her fourth VMA appearance in 2011 and this could finally be her year. She’s back in her home state of California, she’s tied the knot with Brand, and she’s broken all sorts of records with the songs off her Teenage Dream album. Considering she’s up for hardware in categories like best Female Video (“Firework”), Video of the Year (“Firework”) and Best Collaboration (“E.T.”) featuring Kanye West, to name a few, her chances of bringing home a Moonman or two are looking good. Bruno Mars Tweets Excitement About VMA Nominations

With four nominations, Mars gives props to his choreographers, congratulates his competitors and urges ‘hooligans’ to vote. By Gil Kaufman Bruno Mars Photo: Getty Images Wednesday was a good day for Bruno Mars . The singer/songwriter, who has been on an epic roll over the past 12 months, got some seriously great news when it was revealed that he scored four nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards . The man behind Cee Lo Green’s epic hit “Forget You,” not to mention hits by Travie McCoy and his own smashes such as “Just the Way You Are” and “The Lazy Song,” was beside himself when the news hit, tweeting a series of responses to his first-ever VMA noms . “VMAs!!!!” he wrote just as the announcements were going out, followed by “4 Nominations!?!?!?! THANK YOU @MTV.” He also gave some serious props to the “America’s Best Dance Crew” troupe Poreotics, who appeared disguised as monkeys in his “Lazy Song” video, which was nominated in the Best Choreography category. “YO @POREOTICS – LAZY SONG NOMINATED FOR BEST CHOREOGRAPHY!! #VMAs #MoNKeySwAG!!” he wrote. He had plenty of reason to celebrate, since the moody, piano-dragging video for “Grenade” is up for Video of the Year, competing against top nominee Katy Perry (“Firework”), Adele (“Rolling in the Deep”), Tyler the Creator (“Yonkers”) and the Beastie Boys (“Make Some Noise”). He gave shout-outs to the competition in that battle, saying, “@mtvnews @f—tyler @katyperry @beastieboys Damn!! All great videos!! Congrats to you guys. #SeriousCompetition.” “Grenade” is also in contention in the Best Male Video category, where it will face off against Green’s “Forget You,” Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” Kanye West’s “All of the Lights,” and Justin Bieber’s “U Smile.” Mars’ fourth nomination is in the Best Pop Video race, where he faces Adele (“Rolling in the Deep”), Britney Spears (“Till the World Ends”), Perry (“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and Pitbull (“Give Me Everything”). At the end of the day, Mars just found it all hard to believe. “But seriously?? Who drags a piano across town in some church shoes??? The Brunz does!!! HOOLIGANS VOTE!!!” he encouraged his fans. Jay-Z And Kanye West Drop ‘Otis’

On latest Watch the Throne track, duo trade bars over soul classic ‘Try a Little Tenderness.’ By Rob Markman Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images Otis is back, Otis is back! The King of Soul may have passed 40-plus years ago, but Jay-Z and Kanye West have resurrected Redding’s spirit on a new track off their highly anticipated Watch the Throne LP . On Wednesday (July 20), Hov and ‘Ye’s “Otis” premiered on New York City DJ Funkmaster Flex’s Hot 97 radio show , and then spread throughout the Internet. “Otis” opens with a slowed-down refrain lifted from Redding’s 1966 version of “Try a Little Tenderness.” The musical icon wails, “It makes it easier, easier to bare,” shortly before the piano sample is chopped and reworked. As the bass line is ushered in and the drums drop, Jay shouts out, “Sounds so soulful, wouldn’t you agree?” before tearing into his boastful bars. “I invented swag, poppin’ bottles, puttin’ supermodels in a cab,” Hov rhymes before going on about his super-exclusive watch collection. Only eight bars pass before Jay tosses the mic to West, who picks up where his Big Brother left off. “Damn, Yeezy and Hov, where the hell you been/ N—as talkin’ real reckless, stuntmen/ I adopted these n—as, Phillip Drummond ’em,” ‘Ye raps, turning the fictional father from the 1980s sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes” into an actual verb. Another eight bars pass and Jay once again takes over, looking like “wealth” and contemplating calling the paparazzi on himself — he’s that rich. But despite the pair’s status in rap and their platinum success, this is no pop affair. There is no deep introspection, no intricate instrumentation, just a dusty hip-hop loop and street-bred rhymes. At one point, Jigga even threatens to murder anyone who takes issue with Kanye. Perhaps West describes it best when he spits about his “sophisticated ignorance,” and that’s just what Hov exemplifies on his last verse as he seeks political asylum for his murderous rhymes in Cuba. “Welcome to Havana, smoking Cubanos with Castro in cabanas,” he raps before volleying back to the Louis Vuitton Don, who channels Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock’s 1998 hip-hop classic “Top Billin’ ” when he delivers, “Jay is chillin’, ‘Ye is chillin’/ What more can I say? We killin’ ’em.” The Watch the Throne rollout has kept fans confused. With an unconfirmed August 1 release date and no certifiable radio hit in sight, fans can only use “Otis” and the previously released “H.A.M.” to judge what they might expect from the LP. The latter wasn’t very well-received, but if the latest leak is any indication, Jay-Z and Kanye West won’t be relinquishing the rap throne any time soon. What do you think of Jay and Kanye’s “Otis”? It wasn’t just about the ladies, though, as Kanye West earned seven nods for his high-concept clips “All of the Lights” and “Power,” including Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video and two shots at Best Collaboration for his Rihanna and Kid Cudi hook-up for “Lights” and his cameo in Perry’s ” E.T. ” There was also plenty of love to go around for singer/songwriter Bruno Mars, whose four noms include Video of the Year, Best Pop Video and Best Male Video for ” Grenade. ” A trio of divas — Beyonc
