MC tells MTV News why he enlisted the ‘real oddball group’ to promote his new energy drink. By Jocelyn Vena 50 Cent Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — 50 Cent got some unusual help for his first Street King energy drink commercial. The mogul and rapper recruited “Jersey Shore” star Pauly D (who is signed to his G-Note record label ) and comedy legend Joan Rivers to help spread the gospel of the newest beverage on the block. The trio gathered at Planet Fitness in upper Manhattan to promote Street King, and MTV News was on hand as 50 and Rivers chewed scenery together. At one point, a caffeinated Rivers even used her feminine wiles to try to seduce the beefy MC. Did it work? Well, fans will have to see if he succumbs to her. Getting Rivers and Pauly onboard was all in the rapper’s master plan to get everyone interested in what he’s selling. “We[‘re] actually shooting the first commercial for my Street King project,” he dished in between takes. “It’s exciting, I got Joan Rivers here. I got Pauly D, a real oddball group. We felt like it would hit different targeted audiences.” However, it’s not just about selling drinks for profit. Fiddy is also using the product for a good cause. “When I developed the concept for this actual project, we thought about my experiences traveling in Africa,” he explained. “And I wanted to do something ’cause of how bad famine does in Africa. So we partnered with United Nations World Food Program in order to provide a meal with every actual energy drink. So I’m excited about that.” Related Artists 50 Cent

Kristen Stewart’s red eyes left one fan ‘speechless’ at the midnight premiere of ‘The Hunger Games’ in NYC. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Stacey Sommer Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn – Part I” Photo: Summit Entertainment NEW YORK — At midnight Friday (March 23), fans had two things to be excited for: the premiere of “The Hunger Games” and the trailer for “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” The full trailer made its debut ahead of “Hunger Games” and, in it, not too many big, action-packed reveals are made, but one thing’s for sure: Bella is in full vampire mode. “I think the ‘Twilight’ trailer was really interesting,” Esther Portyansky told MTV News at a screening in New York City. “Usually trailers are more about the plot, but I think the people that are gonna watch know what happens in the last one so it was more character shots and getting people’s attentions. Vampire Bella was very beautiful. I liked the red eyes.” The film has amped up Twilighters’ excitement for the November release. “I was so happy. I am so excited,” Elana Lerner said. “I saw the first part of ‘Breaking Dawn’ at 12, and I will do the second one again. It looks awesome. That last part of the trailer, where she looks like she’s about to pounce on that animal, was nice.” Joanna Cruz added, “I’m speechless. I really don’t know what to say about that. It was so quick. It didn’t even give what was going to go on in the movie, all we saw was the red eyes.” That tease was enough to whet Stephen Carrasco’s appetite. “It looks cool. I didn’t read any of the books, but I saw the films and I’m excited to see it,” he said. “It looks good. Those contacts are awesome, like work the red-eye thing.” With more trailers expected to drop before the premiere later this year, Carrasco wants to see “more killing,” and Portyansky agreed that she’d love to see more action. “The next ‘Twilight’ trailer, I think I’d like to see part of the showdown among the vampire coalitions, ’cause as much as the character shots are really good, I’m definitely looking forward to the action.” Directed by Bill Condon, the final movie in the “Twilight” franchise will hit theaters on November 16. ‘It’s not the right time,’ singer tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Fergie Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Fergie has been lying low since the Black Eyed Peas announced they were going on an indefinite hiatus back in November. Yet on Wednesday, the Internet was abuzz with rumors that she might fill Paula Abdul or Nicole Scherzinger ‘s “X Factor” judging seats. But that’s all news to Fergie herself. “I have no idea how this keeps coming back, it’s crazy!” she told MTV News on Thursday (March 22) at the Voli Light Vodka Brunch in New York. “I know that my managers and agents have been in touch with the ‘X Factor’ both last season and this season, but both times it’s not the right time.” In April 2010, Fergie was mentioned as a potential judge , but much like this time around, she felt she couldn’t give the contestants the commitment they would need from a mentor. “I can’t commit all the energy that these contestants deserve,” Fergie said. “This is their career, and right now, I’ve got different plants in my garden that are going on, and that’s a really big tree that would take a lot of nurturing and energy. It’s just not the right time right now.” It might not be the right time for Fergie, but it could be the right time for Britney Spears. The pop star was reportedly offered $10 million to join Simon Cowell and L.A Reid on the judging panel. So does Fergie think Spears would be a good fit? “I think whatever they do … Simon’s a genius and he’ll make the right decision,” Fergie said. “And it will all work out.” Even though Fergie won’t be mentoring this season’s “X Factor” contestants, that doesn’t mean she won’t be tuning in. “I love Simon and I’ll be watching the show,” Fergie said. “I’m excited to watch — but at home in my pajamas.” Do you think Fergie would make a good “X Factor” mentor? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Fergie

‘I still wanted to keep it street and relatable, but I wanted to do something fun and creative,’ Tyga tells MTV News on video set in Miami. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Ricky Louis Tyga on the set of his “Faded” music video Photo: MTV News Don’t expect Tyga to slow down anytime soon. Though the Young Money stand-out is still riding high off of his hit single “Rack City,” Tyga Tyga is fast at work, and this week he released the video for his Lil Wayne-assisted single “Faded.” Though the song bangs in the street, the Cali spitter didn’t want to limit his visuals to the block and flexed a bit of artistic muscle for the clip. “It’s crazy. The idea I had for it, I still wanted to keep it street and relatable, but I wanted to do something fun and creative,” Tyga told MTV News in February while on the video set in Miami. Who better to call than director Colin Tilley, who has used quite a bit of impressive visual effects in videos for Chris Brown and Lil Wayne. “As you can see, the setups that we got here is crazy. From the gold setup, to the spinning tunnel, just a bunch of trippy type stuff,” Tyga said. In one scene from the current MTV Jams Jam of the Week, Wayne and Tyga are animated with big heads, similar to the effect popularized by the 1993 arcade game “NBA Jam.” On his album Careless World: Rise of the Last King, Tyga sends poignant messages on songs like “King and Queens,” but “Faded” was really just about a vibe between Wayne and his prot

The Rev. Al Sharpton and hundreds of protesters flood Union Square in support of the 17-year-old who was fatally shot in Florida. By Miranda Johnson, with additional reporting by Kimberly Reynolds Demonstrators chant at the Million Hoodie March in honor of Trayvon Martin Photo: John Moore/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Hundreds of people took to New York City streets calling for justice for slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin on Wednesday evening (March 21). Protestors flooded Union Square in what was dubbed the Million Hoodie March, in support of the 17-year-old who was shot on February 26 by 28-year-old neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in a gated Sanford, Florida, community. The Rev. Al Sharpton and Martin’s parents led the demonstrators who demanded that Zimmerman be arrested. The protest occurred the same day that the Sanford city manager announced that police could not arrest Zimmerman because he was protected by the so-called “Stand Your Ground” law, which allows Floridians to shoot anyone they believe is threatening them. Martin, who was walking from the store to his dad’s home in the gated community, was wearing a hoodie when Zimmerman spotted him and called 911. Police dispatchers instructed Zimmerman not to pursue the teen, but by the time police arrived on the scene, Trayvon was dead. “By not pressing charges against Zimmerman, they will be continuing a long and horrific history of Jim Crow justice in the deep south,” demonstrator Ben Backer told MTV News. “If we are not in the era of Jim Crow justice, George Zimmerman should be arrested and should be prosecuted for murder.” “America really needs to open their eyes to the fact that there is still racism in America,” protestor Nicole Sams said. “That racism killed a 17-year-old kid.” Union Square protestors wore hoodies as a sign of solidarity and took turns calling out, “Am I suspicious?” and then chanting, “We want arrests.” Several held signs that read, “I am not a hoodlum, I just wear hoods.” “We’re not going to stop until we get justice,” Trayvon’s father, Tracy Martin, said to the crowd. His mother, Sabrina Fulton, thanked the supporters while acknowledging her own grief saying. “My heart is in pain, but to see the support of all of you really makes a difference,” she said.

Teenage rapper unveils his major-label debut, filled with feel-good tracks that prove he can hold his own against more seasoned MCs. By Rob Markman Diggy Simmons Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Diggy Simmons took one step closer to his Unexpected Arrival when the teenage rapper unveiled his album for press, the music industry and their daughters, nieces and little sisters Tuesday night at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City. Team Diggy served up his signature Jetsetters non-alcoholic drink to the teenage crowd who gathered to take the first listen to the rap rookie’s major-label debut, which is due out March 20. Last week, at the rehearsal for BET’s upcoming “Rip the Runway” fashion and music show, MTV News caught up with Diggy to talk about his anticipated debut. “It’s just going to show the world,” he told us at the February 28 shoot. “People have gotten different pieces of me doing my thing from the freestyles to the mixtapes and different things, but this is a full project of original music and it’s just me taking that to the next level of what people really aren’t expecting. The title really speaks for itself.” Unexpected Arrival begins with a spoken-word intro and leads into the rock-tinged “Hello World.” It’s a chest-pounding proclamation befitting of the son of rap legend Run, but young Simmons is without a doubt his own artist. Diggy proves he can spit with the best of them. On “88,” he manages to hold his own against LOX luminary Jadakiss. He pulls similar lyrical stunts on songs like “Tom Edison” and “The Reign” while still catering to the teenage girls squealing at the front row of his shows. The LP’s first single, “Do It Like You” featuring Jeremih, is already a proven winner, currently at #13 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart and still rising. On “4 Letter Word,” Diggy explores L-O-V-E with a youthful, wide-eyed optimism, and on “Special Occasion,” he celebrates like a young man should. It isn’t all perfect though. “Unforgivable Blackness” is an honest attempt at depth, but the socio-politically charged track seemed to stick out like a sore thumb on an album filled with feel-good music. But on Tuesday night, the starstruck crowd gushed in approval at each track. Among his true fans, Diggy could do no wrong. Related Artists Diggy Simmons

This just in: “French President Nicolas Sarkozy has named Harvey Weinstein, Co-Chairman of The Weinstein Company (TWC), a recipient of the 2012 Légion d’Honneur, in recognition of Weinstein’s contributions to cinema and his decades of work producing some of the most highly regarded films of our time.” And those are just the ones on his shelf ! Read on for the full release. Seriously, though: How else would you expect Harvey Week to end? You didn’t think that the guy who acknowledges he was introduced to foreign film because he thought The 400 Blows was porn was just gonna let all that French post-Oscar goodwill get away, did you? Sigh. Anyway, this happened. Congrats, Harvey. Will raise a glass or 70. ====== Paris, France – March 2, 2012 – French President Nicolas Sarkozy has named Harvey Weinstein, Co-Chairman of The Weinstein Company (TWC), a recipient of the 2012 Légion d’Honneur, in recognition of Weinstein’s contributions to cinema and his decades of work producing some of the most highly regarded films of our time. Weinstein was nominated personally by President Sarkozy on July 22, 2011 and will receive the award in a ceremony to take place in Paris. President Sarkozy wrote the following upon nominating Weinstein to the Légion d’Honneur: “This prestigious distinction, which I wanted to come from my personal allocation, is a testimony of the admiration of millions of French citizens for the exceptional quality of the films that you have produced. It also expresses our gratitude to someone who has always shown great friendship towards our country and our cinema which you have enabled so many Americans to discover.” Said Weinstein, “I am honored and humbled by this recognition from President Sarkozy and the people of France. All my life, I have loved and been inspired by French cinema. I am still the young boy who walked two miles to The Mayfair movie theater in Flushing, NY to see films by the greats – Lelouch, Godard, Renoir and my personal favorite François Truffaut. They inspired me and led me to the place I am in today. I hope to continue my friendship with France and its filmmakers for many years to come.” France’s oldest and highest distinction, the Légion d’Honneur was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and is awarded to outstanding individuals who have contributed to France and to the ideals it upholds. Past recipients include Charlie Chaplin, Marlene Dietrich, Akira Kurosawa, Clint Eastwood, Robert DeNiro, Satyajit Ray, and Steven Spielberg to name just a few. Weinstein requested to keep the honor private until now to avoid any conflict of interest with Academy Award® Best Picture winner THE ARTIST. Weinstein will enter the Légion d’Honneur with the grade of “Chevalier.” Weinstein has been bringing interesting and cutting edge independent films to audiences for three decades, first as founder and Chairman of Miramax from 1979-2005, and subsequently as founder and Co-Chairman of TWC, launched in 2005. In spring 2011, he acquired Michel Hazanavicius’s THE ARTIST, a French production that went on to win five 2012 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture. Over the years, the cultural impact of some of his most well known films – PULP FICTION, GANGS OF NEW YORK, THE AVIATOR, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, THE PIANO, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, GOOD WILL HUNTING – has been recognized and awarded on many levels. Weinstein has been responsible for the distribution and promotion of more than 30 French films in the United States, including previously released EDITH AND MARCEL (EDITH ET MARCEL, 1983); DELICATESSEN (1991); THREE COLORS: BLUE (TROIS COULEURS: BLEU, 1993); THREE COLORS: RED (TROIS COULEURS: ROUGE, 1994); THREE COLORS: WHITE (TROIS COULEURS: BIALY, 1994); AMÉLIE (2001); LE CONCERT (2009); SARAH’S KEY (ELLE S’APPELAIT SARAH, 2010); and upcoming releases including box office sensation THE INTOUCHABLES (UNTOUCHABLES, 2011); A GANG STORY (LES LYONNAIS, 2012); WAR OF THE BUTTONS (LA NOVELLE GUERRE DES BOUTONS, 2012); and PLAYERS (LES INFIDELES, 2012). LETTER TO HARVEY WEINSTEIN FROM PRESIDENT NICOLAS SARKOZY July 22, 2011 Dear Mr. Weinstein, I have great pleasure of informing you that I have signed a decree which nominates you to the order of the Legion D’Honneur. This prestigious distinction, which I wanted to come from my personal allocation, is a testimony of the admiration of millions of French citizens for the exceptional quality of the films that you have produced. It also expresses our gratitude to someone who has always shown great friendship towards our country and our cinema, which you have enabled so many Americans to discover. I would like to express my personal congratulations for the well deserved distinction which France has bestowed on you. Yours sincerely, Nicolas Sarkozy ###
