Lil Wayne’s ‘If I Die Today,’ Featuring Rick Ross, Hits The Web

Song is the latest from Tha Carter IV, due May 16. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Taylor Hill/ Getty Images Lil Wayne isn’t a biter; he’s just an admirer. The New Orleans rhyme spitter’s second single from his forthcoming Tha Carter IV, “If I Die Today,” arrived online Wednesday (March 23), and the track is a take on Rick Ross’ “I’m Not a Star” from the Miami rapper’s Teflon Don album. Weezy’s version features a new verse from Ross and the same production by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League (Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, T.I.). According to Young Money President Mack Maine, the song was one of the first numbers Wayne heard when he was released from prison in November. The Cash Money MC liked Ross’s “I’m Not A Star” so much he decided to record his own version. “When I was in jail, she let me call her collect/ But if she get greedy, I’mma starve her to death,” Wayne raps. ” … You f— with me wrong, I knock your head off your neck/ The flight too long I got a bed on the jet/ The guns are drawn, and I ain’t talking about a sketch/ I pay these n—as with a reality check.” Last week, during the kickoff of his I Am Still Music Tour in Providence, Rhode Island , Wayne revealed the release date for his highly anticipated project . “May 16, believe that,” Wayne told MTV News. “It can come out tomorrow ’cause I’m so finished. … Tha Carter IV will be dropping May 16. If you’re not doing anything, do me.” What do you think of Weezy’s latest? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Lil Wayne Rick Ross (Hip-Hop)

*Exclusive* Jeezy’s Artist “211″ On The Run For Beating This Girl All Star Weekend Over… Prostitute!

Jeezy’s sorry artist “211″ beat  (Mouse Above Eye On Last Photo) 23-yr old Tina Wright last weekend because she confronted him about trying to hook up with working prostitute: We just went out with Jeezy Sunday, Highlands. The whole night Rodney (211) had Tina hand cuffed next to him. Until the club closed and he was sauced. It’s like he has something to worry about or is insecure. We were about to leave and him and his boys literally… grab up 2-street prostitutes and try to bring to the hotel…. not like a groupie… like hoes. Like pay them. Ran up to them on Hollywood blvd “Hey how much for head” type!

Lawked Up: A Gallery Of Rapper Mug Shots

Spoiler alert: rappers go to jail. A lot. The funny thing is most of them don’t get to jail until they start rapping because their tales of past thuggery are all fabricated. Still, when they finally get to jail the mug shots are priceless. Here they are.

Drake’s Next Act, Lil Wayne’s Return, More Hip-Hop Stories To Watch

Mixtape Daily gears up for post-prison music from T.I. and Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, along with more from Young Money/ Cash Money. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Skip Bolen/ Getty Images Arrests and court cases dominated the hip-hop headlines last year, but with Lil Wayne free and a host of new stars ready to take the next step, 2011 should bring some better days . Drake is expected to drop Take Care, the follow-up to his debut, and the entire Young Money/ Cash Money crew has their sights set on world domination (can we also get a world tour?). There are still some MCs behind bars, but T.I. and Mobb Deep’s Prodigy will be out soon, and hopefully acts like Young Jeezy, 50 Cent and Nas can rebound from rap purgatory with projects worthy of their talents. Here, Mixtape Daily presents part two in our preview of stories to follow in the new year. Drake’s Second Date The breakout star of 2010 is working on the follow-up to his debut, Thank Me Later : the gentlemanly titled Take Care. He’s promised bigger records for his sophomore set, and so far, he’s been in the studio with Justin Timberlake and the Neptunes, among others, to prove his point. His much-hyped R&B mixtape, It’s Never Enough, is on hold at the moment as Drizzy takes his act international during his current jaunt across the Atlantic with J. Cole. When the pair of projects arrive, however, expect Drake-mania to ratchet up all over again. Freed MCs The past 12 months weren’t kind to T.I. After being released from a halfway house in March, the beloved Atlanta MC returned to work, but the reception to his solo material was tepid. He scored knockouts with his guest verses on Drake’s and Rick Ross’ albums, but by the time he released his retooled (and rushed) No Mercy LP, he was back behind bars after a parole violation . We’re hoping Tip rebounds like Blake Griffin when he completes his 11-month prison term. Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, meanwhile, is scheduled to finish his jail sentence this year as well. The New York MC was embarking on a rejuvenated solo career when he was arrested on gun-possession charges. We’ll be saluting him when he touches back down. Rebounding Rappers Without a doubt, Young Jeezy is one of the best out, but the trap star has had a harder time than usual getting his latest album, the long-delayed Thug Motivation 103, out the gate due to the slow response to his single choices. Likewise, a motivated 50 Cent, who has been busy milking millions of dollars out of Hollywood lately, is set to come back with a new album, the follow-up to Before I Self-Destruct, the superstar’s first LP to fall short of the platinum-selling mark. Fellow Queens native Nas may have expanded his fanbase with his collaborative effort with Damian Marley, but fans are looking for the Distant Relatives MC to return to Nasty Nas form on his forthcoming effort, due later this year. Weezy’s World There’s Lil Wayne’s next album, and then there’s everybody else’s projects. Apologies to Jay-Z and Kanye West, but even their royal collaborative LP, Watch the Thrown, has to bow down to Tha Carter IV as the most-anticipated hip-hop album of the year. The frenetic MC was behind bars for 10 months in 2010 and has kept a low profile since he was released in November. Weezy’s rollicking “6 Foot 7 Foot” is a sign of things to come. Excuse his charisma, but we’re rocking with the Cash Money King in 2011. Young Money/ Cash Money Takeover Nicki Minaj is still in full promotional mode for Pink Friday, with videos on the way for her Drake-assisted “Moment 4 Life” and “Fly” featuring Rihanna. Then there’s Drizzy’s pair of projects, his R&B mixtape and Take Care. Lil Wayne is back (!!!) and putting the final touches on Tha Carter IV. The next generation of YM heavy hitters are on deck: Tyga, Lil Twist and Cory Gunz are all expected to drop their debuts albums. New Cash Money acquisition DJ Khaled is also readying his first project for the house that Baby and Slim built. Then there’s the rumored YMCMB tour that would place the revamped crew alongside Bad Boy, Death Row, No Limit, Rough Ryders and Roc-A-Fella as one of the premiere collectives in hip-hop history. Mixtape Daily will be back on the daily grind beginning Tuesday, January 18, with our first Main Pick of the new year, Rick Ross’ Ashes to Ashes. Young Jeezy’s Manager Denies Rapper Was Arrested

Jeezy was reportedly taken into custody in the Bahamas over the weekend. By Hillary Crosley Young Jeezy (file) Photo: Jeffrey Ufberg/ Getty Images Young Jeezy ‘s manager, Demetrius Ellerbee, has denied a report that the rapper was arrested in the Bahamas on Saturday. “It’s not true,” Ellerbee told MTV News. According to Bahamian newspaper The Tribune , Jeezy was on his way to a show in an area of the island called New Providence when he was arrested by local officials. While the reason for his arrest was not specified, the paper says the rapper wasn’t held for very long. “He was here with us a short while. He passed through the station briefly on Saturday,” said Superintendent Ashton Greenslade, an officer at the Wulff Road station. “He was booked in here and taken to CDU (Central Detective Unit).” A Tribune source surmised that the Atlanta MC was simply “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Elsewhere, Rick Ross recently responded to what he took as a dis from Young Jeezy in The Source magazine, stemming from the pair’s beef regarding Ross’ “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast).” Following the release of the Bawse’s single, Jeezy dropped his own “B.M.F.” freestyle and the pair have been on the outs since. “It’s not like I’m in Miami and you in New York,” said Ross. “We see each other. That’s the only issue I had. It was sideways. So I made a record, ‘Summer’s Mine,’ just to [let him know], if we gonna play that sport, let’s put it on the table like men. If it was just a freestyle that the world took the wrong way, leave it alone. That’s how I took it.” Related Artists Young Jeezy
