By Jocelyn Vena Avril Lavigne Photo: MTV News This week, Avril Lavigne released her new album, Goodbye Lullaby , an emotionally charged record that will leave some fans wondering just who she is singing about. With a highly publicized divorce from Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley and equally highly publicized romance with “Hills” star Brody Jenner, Lavigne says that she doesn’t really care if fans are trying to decode her songs. “At this point, because I’ve been doing this for 10 years, I’ve kind of learned … my life lesson has been about not worrying about people and what they think,” she told MTV News. “Obviously I care. I want people to like my music and stuff. I’ve had to learn to really focus on myself: who I am, what I want … You don’t want to have distractions, especially when you’re being creative.” Lavigne’s ex-husband Whibley worked on many of the album’s tracks. And considering how well the former spouses get along, the spunky pop star doesn’t seem bothered by public speculation about her personal life. “I respect Deryck so much as an artist, and he produced several songs on this record,” she explained. “I mean, he’s in a really cool band, he’s a writer and he’s a rocker.” Whibley’s skills and the duo’s easygoing nature are what helped make magic happen in the studio. “He’s a musician. He does it all, and to have him come on this album and produce and mix, it’s like he’s so talented, I was really happy to have him produce on this record,” she added. “He did a really amazing job. Raekwon Battles Himself On Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang

By Paul Cantor Raekwon Photo: Roger Kisby/ Getty Images Raekwon the Chef knows a thing or two about Shaolin and Wu-Tang. The title of the MC’s fifth solo album, Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang, represents the New York City borough he hails from, Staten Island — whose street name in rap circles is Shaolin — and, of course, the MC has been a key member of the iconic Wu-Tang Clan since its founding in the early ’90s. Ultimately, though, Rae’s album, which dropped on Tuesday (March 8), is inspired (like many things Wu-Tang) by the classic 1981 Gordon Liu film of the same name, about a rivalry between two schools of ancient martial arts. “[The film is about] basically two schools fighting with one another,” Raekwon told MTV News recently about the movie’s plot. “But they all come from the same school, and it was an outsider who actually tried to get the Shaolin style and the Wu-Tang style and have them go at one another. On this album, it’s the same thing: It’s two schools and, you know, I’m part of that school. I’m Shaolin but at the same time, I’m Wu-Tang. So really, it’s ego versus discipline, dealing in my mind and everything that I been through, and dealing with the crew.” It’s no coincidence that the concept behind Raekwon’s album focuses on two forces in opposition. Rae began working on Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang back in late 2007, after expressing disappointment with the creative direction Wu-Tang’s nominal leader, the RZA, had taken with the group’s ’07 LP, 8 Diagrams. Chris Rock ‘s two-minute skit at the end of Kanye West ‘s “Blame Game” is easily one of our favorite moments on West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album.  Rock says that the hilarious bit, known unofficially as “Yeezy Taught Me,” invigorated him. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Jeremy Cowart/ WireImage Britney Spears got her fans amped up for her forthcoming album, Femme Fatale, when she released its second single, “Till the World Ends,” on Thursday. The chugging, Ke$ha-penned club banger is all about getting your dance on. And when Spears stopped by Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Friday (March 4), she admitted that the song just felt right for her as soon as she heard it. ” ‘Till the World Ends’ is fun! It’s fun. I like it. It’s good energy,” she said of the track, which was produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Billboard. “I’m a vibe person, and I think I love good-mood songs, and if it puts me in a good mood, it clicks for me.” As for the album, which already spawned a chart-topping single, “Hold It Against Me,” she teased, “I think it’s my best work yet. I listened to it on the way over here. It’s definitely something you want to work out to. … And I’m a dancer, so it’s definitely something I can work with.” “Oh my God! Will.i.am is amazing,” Spears said of the producer, who teased the track “The Big Fat Bass” recently. “He’s so much fun and he’s funny and he’s a charm. His music is so much fun. When they told me I was going to be working with him, I couldn’t wait. If it gets you going, you get excited, and he has that type of energy.” In addition to talking about the album, Spears also shared plans for a summer tour. And she talked about how she’s keeping in shape these days as she amps up to promote the album, which drops March 29. “I have a trainer. [I go] on the treadmill for 30 minutes and we do a lot of cardio, running,” she explained. “He kicks my butt. You pay to hate your trainer!” It seems that the workout regiment has also had an effect on her beau, talent agent Jason Trawick, who, according to Seacrest, was “pudgy” before he hooked up with the pop star. “He wasn’t pudgy,” she laughed. “He wasn’t pudgy. He is definitely ripped. He just got on this health kick. I guess he’s on a health kick. On Wednesday, Spears slowed things down with the tease for her track “Criminal” and psyched fans up with the news that she worked with Travis Barker on the album. Fans are speculating that the next single released will be the Ke$ha-penned track, “Till the World Ends.” Art for the single’s cover, in which Spears appears sitting on a couch in a sweater and heels, was posted at Deezer.com . A 30-second snippet of the song appeared on Amazon.de , which indicates that the single will be available on March 11. The track sounds like a fist-pumping anthem, and the sample showcases Spears’ electronically enhanced vocals going “Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh.” The single will reportedly drop sometime next week, according to a tweet sent out by Tampa radio station 93.3 FM. “Hearing from Jive Records that we’ll have a new @BritneySpears single to play next week!” Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com , noting that the song is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. “That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world,” she says. “You know, when you go out, and you’re having an amazing, magical night and you don’t want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends.” Spears’ longtime manager Larry Rudolph recently told MTV News that he’s super-excited about the next single off Femme Fatale . “I don’t think I’ve been this excited about releasing a Britney single in many, many years,” he said. “It’s that good. That’s all I’m gonna say about it at the moment. I haven’t heard a final mix of it, but I should get it in the next day or two. So far, what I’ve heard is just extraordinary. It really is amazing.
