Lady Gaga Says She’d ‘Rather Die Onstage’ Than On Vacation

‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead, OK?’ Gaga tells audience in Sweden. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic With her Monster Ball Tour now continuing well into 2011 , Lady Gaga is certainly showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. In addition to playing on the road touring, Gaga has also been recording her next album and filming the music video for her song “Alejandro.” So, when she hit the stage in Sweden over the weekend, the pop singer addressed the rumors that she’s wearing herself a bit too thin these days. While singing her song “Speechless,” Gaga was anything but speechless when it came to the rumors that she’s overworked, admitting that she does work long and hard but that it’s all worth it to her. “You know when people say, ‘Lady Gaga’s really tired; she needs to take a break,’ I just think about all those times I sang in bars when nobody was singing my lyrics,” she can be seen telling her “little monsters” in a video posted online . “I’ll sleep when I’m dead, OK?” Standing on her piano bench hunched over her piano while singing the song, she later screamed out: “I’m never giving on up!” Singing the last few lines of the song, she once again addressed the crowd, noting that it’s not hard work that she fears will spell her end. “I know that I work really hard and run myself into the ground, and I also know that alcohol will kill me one day, but I would rather not die on vacation. I’d rather die onstage with all my fans,” she said, then belted the last few words of the song with fire coming out of her piano before lying down on her the bench dramatically. Recently, both Ryan Tedder and Janet Jackson have noted that while Gaga has certainly made a name for herself as an incredible performer and pop artist, they also have said that she might need to slow down a little bit before she burns herself out. Do you think Lady Gaga is working too hard, or is she just doing what she loves? Talk about it in the comments. Gudda Gudda Recalls Getting ‘Willy Wonka’ From Lil Wayne

‘Right before [Weezy] went to jail, he was like, ‘Man, you can have that,’ ‘ Young Money member tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Gudda Gudda and Lil Wayne Photo: Young Money/Cash Money Breaking Through: Gudda Gudda Young Money’s Gudda Gudda has a new video on the way for “Willy Wonka,” but he has no idea what the clip will look like. “We shot a green-screen video,” Gudda told Mixtape Daily about the production, which was shot before co-star Lil Wayne went to prison . “It was almost like how [Young Money’s] ‘Roger That’ was. I don’t know what they’re doing to it. I’m kinda lost. “It wasn’t my video at first,” Gudda continued. “All I know is that we shot green screen. I don’t know if I’mma need to shoot more scenes on it. I didn’t see the final cut. If I don’t like the way it is, I’m gonna pay for somebody to shoot more scenes for me and make it right.” “Willy Wonka” was originally slated to be on Weezy’s upcoming Tha Carter IV, but the YM founder passed it on to his good friend. “[DJ] Ill Will sent me the beat,” Gudda recalled. “He didn’t do nothing on the night I played it for him. I laid my verse on it that night. He came back the next day, the engineer pulled it up like, ‘Look what Gudda did to the beat.’ By the time I came back to the studio, [Wayne] had already laid his verse on it. The song was done. “I didn’t know what he was using it for. Ill Will sent it to me for my mixtape. I already figured Wayne might want it. I was like, ‘If he wants it for his album, we gotta give it to him.’ So basically, he wanted it at first. We shot the video for it. And right before [Weezy] went to jail, he was like, ‘Man, you can have that sh–. Go ‘head, man, get you. Put that sh– out and go stupid with it. Take the song, take everything.’ He gave me all that sh– right before he went to jail.” Gudda said he communicates with Wayne frequently. “I talk to him a few times a week,” Gudda said. “He’s doing real good, on some real sh–. He’s in there being positive, reading all his fan mail. He’s trying to stay busy. He’s got a job in there. He’s good.” Weezy also appears on Gudda’s Back to Guddaville mixtape, dropping soon. The New Orleans MC opened up about the warm reception for his last street album. “When I put that Guddaville out [a few months ago], I ain’t never get a response like that since I been doing music,” he said. “It felt good, I was real humble. It makes wanna go in the studio ASAP. I started working on Back to Guddaville. I didn’t wanna leave that space. “This one is all originals,” he added. “I have nothing on nobody else’s track. All of it is originals. Of course, y’all gonna hear the ‘Willy Wonka’ joint with me and Wayne [and] ‘Small Thing to a Giant’ with me and Wayne. I got a joint called ‘Polo’; it’s crazy. I got a joint called ‘Lock My CEO Up’ featuring Waka Flocka [Flame]. That’s gonna be one of the hardest songs this year. I promise. I put things about Wayne in my verse. Waka put things about Gucci [Mane] in his verse.” As a bonus for the song, Gudda said he’ll feature the recording of an actual phone conversation between himself and Wayne from Rikers Island , where he’s been since April, as well as a phone call that captures Gucci calling Waka from prison. Jay Rock, Juelz Santana and various members of the Young Money squad will also cameo on the new mixtape. Gudda said he’s excited about his sequel and grateful about the momentum that the original Guddaville tape has sparked for him. He performs material from the tape at shows, several times a week. “It feels good,” Gudda said of his growing fanbase. “I been patient for a long time. People know I been with Wayne for a minute. Me and him been through a lot. It feels good to know that I been patient and I’m getting my just due. I ain’t all the way there yet, but I’m making some money. I’m making a lot more money than other n—as. [Fans] hit me and tell me they … sorry. They say, ‘I’m sorry my n—a. I ain’t know you was that nice. I take it back.’ ” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Corey Haim Died Of Natural Causes, Autopsy Reveals

A combination of pneumonia and respiratory and heart trouble led to the actor’s death at age 38. By Larry Carroll Corey Haim Photo: Ron Galella/ WireImage When Corey Haim died , the news shocked fans and pop-culture followers alike. Now, nearly two months later, the results of an autopsy are finally providing answers about what killed the ’80s icon. According to a coroner’s report released Tuesday (May 4), the “License to Drive” star died of natural causes from a combination of pneumonia and respiratory and heart trouble. According to a KTLA report, state Attorney General Jerry Brown told the TV station that the troubled actor illegally obtained more than 550 prescription pills in the months leading up to his death. Brown said Haim had secured such pills as Valium and Soma through seven different doctors who were reportedly “duped.” The report from Craig R. Harvey, Los Angeles chief coroner investigator & chief of operations, however, says: “The toxicology report revealed no significant contributing factors.” Corey Haim: A Life In Photos In addition, the report reads: “The cause of death has been determined to be: Diffuse alveolar damage, community acquired pneumonia, other conditions (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy with coronary arteriosclerosis).” The report concludes with “Manner of death: Natural.” Haim died at age 38 on March 10 at Burbank, California’s Saint Joseph Medical Center. He had collapsed hours earlier at his mother’s apartment in Hollywood. Although Haim’s family said the actor had cut back significantly on the drug addictions that had plagued him for years, a producer on one of his final projects told MTV News in March that he was still struggling with substance problems in 2008. Over the course of three decades in Hollywood , Haim made a name for himself in films like “Lucas,” “The Lost Boys,” “License to Drive” and “Dream a Little Dream.” In 2008, he made a minor comeback alongside fellow ’80s superstar Corey Feldman in “The Two Coreys,” a reality show that chronicled their friendship. Lil Wayne Writes Mother’s Day Blog Post

‘You are the role models, not me,’ the MC writes from prison in post previewed online Tuesday. By Jayson Rodriguez Toya, Reginae and Lil Wayne Photo: MTV A preview of Lil Wayne’s third blog posting since he began his prison term appeared online Tuesday (May 4) and, in it, the Young Money boss honors the mothers of the world. Timed to coincide with Mother’s Day on Sunday, the full letter will be published on Friday on his fan site WeezyThanxYou.com , launched so the Cash Money rapper could stay in touch with followers while he’s away. Wayne pays homage to the all the hard-working women in the web excerpt. “The love between a mother and her offspring is hands down the most beautiful thing God created,” the incarcerated MC wrote on DrJays.com , which obtained an exclusive preview. “More than money, more than fame, more than cars. You know why? Because true love is the only thing that lasts from the moment you’re born to the second you perish. “Everything else eventually leaves, think about it. All love needs to survive is love. To all the mothers who read this letter, I hope this day allows you to feel the love and respect you so rightfully deserve. You are the role models, not me.” The letter will be the second official statement he’s penned (excluding an initial update in which he thanked a number of fans by name for writing to him) since a sports post on NFL star Donovan McNabb getting traded. In his first-ever comments after turning himself in for an eight-month sentence on Rikers Island, Wayne opened up about his new daily routines and wrote back to fans who were already sending him correspondence. “Your letter was so thoughtful and sincere,” Wayne wrote in response to Nurris Terrero of New York. “The way you worded everything left me in awe. Please send suggestions on books I should read. I look forward to checking them out.” Are you reading Lil Wayne’s blog posts? Let us know in the comments! Taylor Momsen Says Pretty Reckless Album Is ‘Sex, Drugs And Religion’

‘It’s not a concept record, unless you consider life a concept,’ she tells MTV News of yet-untitled LP. By James Montgomery Taylor Momsen Photo: MTV News EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — Taylor Momsen is quickly learning that making the transition from TV star to snarling rock princess isn’t as easy as she’d imagined. In addition to having to win over fickle audiences on this summer’s Warped Tour — the type of crowds that don’t exactly take kindly to “actor-slash-musicians” — and make it clear to “Gossip Girl” fans that her band, the Pretty Reckless, isn’t just another cookie-cutter pop project, she’s already having to undo the damage from a quote she gave last month to Entertainment Weekly, in which she stated: “I don’t wanna be Courtney Love — I wanna be Kurt Cobain.” It hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing, to be honest. So really, at this point, all she wants to do is get the Pretty Reckless’ debut album in stores — and then, well, she’ll just let the chips fall where they may. “I want the record out so people can hear it. I’m not a pop artist. It’s absolutely a rock record, and I get that people probably aren’t expecting that, but, buy the record and check it out,” Momsen told MTV News on Saturday at the Bamboozle festival. “If you like loud music, you’ll like it. Hopefully. It’s very loud. If you’re not scared of guitars screaming at you and a 16-year-old girl yelling at you, then you’ll like the record.” According to Momsen, the yet-untitled album (which she co-wrote with Pretty Reckless guitarist Ben Phillips) will finally see the light of day “sometime this summer.” And, to be quite honest, that date can’t come soon enough — because she really wants to stop talking about what it will sound like and let the songs speak for themselves. “It’s a record about life. It focuses on all the negatives — and the positives — of life, but it’s not ‘Go to a club and dance.’ It’s not an escape record,” she said. “It’s absolutely a record to confront your problems and get over them. … It’s death, love, rock and roll, sex, drugs and religion; it covers all bases of life. It’s not a concept record, unless you consider life a concept.” Momsen said some of her favorite tracks on the album include “Century Gone,” “My Medicine,” “Light Me Up” and “Since You’re Gone,” not to mention the first single, “Make Me Wanna Die” (which was released on the “Kick-Ass” soundtrack). The Reckless have even shot a video for the song, directed by Meiert Avis, who’s worked with everyone from U2 to Paramore. And according to Momsen, it’s a pretty, uh, “cheery” affair. “It’s for the song ‘Make Me Wanna Die,’ so to try and emulate kind of an epic-y song that’s almost like a film, it was a challenge to come up with a treatment,” she said. “So I guess we sort of decided to make it like a death march. You can’t live anymore in this world, and you’re on your way to your death, and you’re seeing everything you’re passing, and stripping yourself of your belongings on your way to your grave.” Momsen said the video will be released before the Reckless hit the road on the Warped Tour, which kicks off June 25 in Carson, California. And, yes, she’s looking forward to facing the crowds — and changing them from cynics into believers. If she doesn’t pass out from the heat, that is. “I’ll remember not to wear a leather jacket onstage next time,” she laughed. “I learned that today [at the Bamboozle], because it was so hot that I almost puked onstage.” Are you excited to hear the Pretty Reckless album? Paramore Working On New Songs — Two Seconds At A Time

Band says ideas for new songs are often born on tour, but usually write at home. By James Montgomery Paramore’s Hayley Williams Photo: MTV News It seems odd to talk about “new” Paramore songs, given that their Brand New Eyes album is just seven months old, but the fact remains that there actually are some new tracks in the works … albeit ones that are progressing very slowly. “[Frontwoman Hayley Williams] normally needs to rest her voice during show days, so she’ll come to soundcheck sometimes and just listen to her in-ear monitors,” drummer Zac Farro told MTV News on Saturday at the Bamboozle festival in New Jersey. “The other day, we were just messing around — we have a couple of songs we just play for fun. They’re never anything we’ll probably use, but we’ve been playing them for a while. [They’re] just random, two-second things.” So while it sounds like those “two-second” things might not amount to much, Farro quickly added, “Actually, ‘Decode’ and ‘I Caught Myself’ [ Paramore’s two songs on the “Twilight” soundtrack ] were kind of written that way, so you never really know.” Williams agreed, though she made it clear that the band is still very much focused on playing songs from Brand New Eyes, and said that the majority of writing for the follow-up — whenever it may happen — will take place at home in Franklin, Tennessee. “We like coming up with new things, but, like Zac says, it’s usually at home, at practice,” Williams said. “We usually write intros and outros for shows, and that’s a good outlet for us, and a way to keep our creative brains rolling and keep our chops up. But, like he said, it’s like two seconds and then we’re done.” And Paramore will have even more time to work on those two-second outbursts (maybe even extending them to four or five seconds,) when they hit the road on the Honda Civic Tour with Tegan and Sara and New Found Glory. The trek kicks off July 23 and already, Williams and company are getting pumped — even if it means they’re not going to be home any time soon. “We all like a bit of everything, musically, and you can usually tell that in our [concert] bills,” Williams said. “I think Honda Civic Tour is the most diverse lineup we’ve ever had. And I’m really psyched about it. I saw Tegan and Sara in Nashville, and they were great. It’s going to be a lot of fun!” Related Artists Paramore

Black Eyed Peas’ ‘I Gotta Feeling’ Breaks Digital Sales Record

BEP song surpasses Flo Rida’s ‘Low’ as best-selling digital song of all time, according to Billboard. By Gil Kaufman The Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am, Fergie and Taboo Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images You might be able to slow the Black Eyed Peas down, but you can’t stop them. The future-funk foursome notched another major career milestone this week when their hit “I Gotta Feeling” surpassed Flo Rida’s “Low” as the best-selling digital song of all time. According to Billboard , Nielsen SoundScan reports that the celebratory tune has sold 5,561,000 downloads, which puts it ahead of the 5,536,00 sold by “Low.” SoundScan started tracking digital song sales in July 2003. The feat is not surprising, considering that “Feeling” spent 14 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts last year. Flo Rida had held the title since March 2008, when it beat another inescapable tune, Soulja Boy Tell’em’s 2007 hit, “Crank That.” “Feeling” takes its place in the top 5 best-selling digital downloads of all time, along with another Peas tune, the equally ubiquitous 2009 track “Boom Boom Pow,” which is in the #4 slot at 5,298,000. Moving back to #3 on the tally is Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance” (5,364,000), followed by another Gaga smash, “Poker Face” at #5 (5,131,000). In keeping with their world-reigning status, the Peas have signed up alongside Shakira, Alicia Keys and John Legend to help kick off the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament . They will perform at the launch on June 10 at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto/Johannesburg, South Africa. Also on the bill are Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo and South African rockers BLK JKS. The opening celebration will take place on the eve of the first match in what is one of the most widely viewed sporting events on the planet. Related Artists Black Eyed Peas
